My friend M. purchased some very expensive wool fabric in Italy. She brought it to this tailor to have a maxi skirt made. She left the fabric there. He apparently left it on the cutting table while cutting something for someone else. When she returned the fabric had what looked like knife cuts. Montoya had the audacity to tell her that was how the fabric was when she brought it in. Not owning up to his own mistake caused her to never use him again and she was a regular customer before that! read more

Finding Noe was serendipity at its finest! He is professional, friendly, and damn good at what he does! My prized possession is a 70s Albert Nipon dress that I spent 2 years looking for. When it showed up, it was three sizes too big. I knew I needed someone super skilled and someone who understood my love for this dress. That person was Noe. I've never used a tailor before. Usually I will just call something a loss and buy a new one. I had some sentimental items that I needed fixed, and I found academy tailors. Now, I will probably be using their services monthly. Noe is the most charming, warm, talented person I had the honor of meeting. I asked him to add a custom pocket on a pair of shorts. I didn't give him much detail as I myself wasn't 100% sure what I was looking for. When I picked up my shorts my eyes were full of tears of joy! The price is insanely good. I would have paid 3-4x as much anywhere else for the same request and it wouldn't have been done with half the precision and carefulness. When you come here, you are one of the family. I cannot rave enough about how excellent this shop is and how great the owner is. Apart from being great at what he does, he was amazing and very professional. I had a special situation where my blazer sleeves were ruined due to a restaurant wall mounted heater that caused them to melt. SO EXTREMELY HAPPY I FOUND THIS PLACE!! I had a dress that had already been altered for someone else that needed to be taken in. This dress was full length, blue sequences all over and I needed it done in 24 hours! I went to three places and everyone said it was impossible to do it that short amount of time and would cost me at least $300! I walked in hopeless and the owner said "NO PROBLEM, Ill have it done by 4pm tomorrow!!!! I was shocked! Completely expecting this to cost me an arm and a leg I went ahead and left my dress. I had a friend pick it up and the cost was under $50!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it! I have also brought another dress there for alterations, I will never go anywhere else. I have been using Academy for many years. He is the only tailor that I use. The work here is exquisite and done in a timely manner. Noe has made me a number of sport coats. All have received numerous compliments from others. He re-lined one of my favorite jackets to perfection. I often shop at second hand, resale stores, and then take my items in to be altered. They look like they were tailor-made for me. The store ambiance is professional and comfortable. Their parking is on the street. I took my topcoat in to be taken-in last winter. I said I needed it finished a week from the day I brought it in because I was going on a trip to Philadelphia and I needed a warm coat. I asked him if he could have it ready by then and he said, "No problem." I never heard from him, so I called him the day before my trip and asked him if the coat was ready yet, and he said it wasn't but he'd have it ready for me in 2 more days. I told him I couldn't pick it up in two days because I would be on my trip, and he said he'd have it ready by the time I got back! This defeated the entire purpose of having the coat tailored, but what could I say? I ended up buying another coat for the trip. When I got back I called him and asked if the coat was ready, and he said no, but told me he would call me when it was ready. Finally, about a month after bringing in my coat to be taken-in he called me and told me it was ready. I went in to get it, and he hadn't even taken it in! All he had done was cropped the shoulders, which I didn't even ask him to do! He then told me the cost would be $90! I was livid, and I'll never go back to him again. read more

Hate to say anything bad about Noe b/c he's suuuuch a nice man. The issue was, I took a dress there to get altered prior to a wedding. I had to come back 3 times before it was ok and by the time it was done, I was actually picking up the dress the day of the wedding! I needed the hem taken up and then torso area taken in, just below the armpits and at the waist. However, they took the whole torso area in and then the dress didn't zip up. We let the dress out and then it was too loose. Then Noe took it back in before all was said and done. Each time I went in, I would ask Noe, do you want to mark how much you're going to take in with chalk or pins, but he said he saw it and knew - clearly not the case since we did alterations 3 times! I tried to help without being bossy - oh well. In the end, it wasn't perfect, but there was a sash at the waist and I figured if worse came to worse I'd just tie the bow really tight to cinch the waist. This would not have had to happen if the alterations were done correctly. I haven't been back since. Why the two stars? Noe was so nice. He gave me a discount for being new and never argued with me when I stated the dress needed to be redone. I know, I'm a sucker for kind old men. read more

Noe is a man befitting the bygone days of haberdashery, what with his impeccable suits, ever-present tape measure shoulder drape, and the inquiries about how is school treating you and how's the family and what other interesting things are going on in town? However, our clothing doctor's old-fashioned elegance accompanies an ability to mend those modern-pain-in-the-ass-Camel-Bak-zippers-you-know-the-ones-with-lots-of-knots-and-plastic-coverings-and-do-they-all-have-to-be-grey-where-the-%^$&-do-I-find-grey-zippers-and-why-do-they-always-come-off-the-damn-slider??!!11 But I digress. The local competing alteration shop quoted me $20 to take care of the situation, and then called two weeks later with a sorry miss, but this is just way out of our league. Noe carefully surveyed the damage, repaired the zipper, attempted to charge me only $7, and ultimately sent me on my way with bilateral kisses, in the European fashion. read more

He's been doing amazing work ever since my father started going to him in the 80s and, after that, my brother as well. He pays such wonderful attention to every detail. While he may seem a tad costly, I can assure you that he does wonderful work and in a timely fashion. He knows what will look and fall best on the customer. He has tons of experience and even after my BIL having a suit custom built, elsewhere, the tailor suggested he come here for future alterations and finishing touches. I'd definitely recommend this shop to anyone who is looking to have some serious work done on their important, special occasions and/or very important garments. Although I have read several, more recent reviews of the Tailor Shop, I have NOT had a single bad experience. Items were completed as promised. Alterations were pricey, that's for sure, but all the work that was done have proven to be food quality as they've all stood up. I'll be bringing my next few garments here, as well as suit pants, special occasion dresses and probably my Hubby will be bringing his suit in as well. Based on some of the reviews here I brought in a couple suits to get fitted/taken-in by Noe. As others have stated, Noe is very friendly and makes you feel very comfortable about the changes he recommends. He's very knowledgeable and has had many years of experience in the tailoring industry. I'm leaving a not so pleasant review as the workmanship of the alterations did not match the high pricing. Noe did not get the job done properly on the first try - a sleeve wasn't shortened to the right length and the sides were not taken in enough to make the waist and chest more fitted. On top of it, I probably spent close to $200 per suit on the alterations. Now, having been to other alteration shops, I feel know that better work can be found elsewhere and at a better price. I feel really terrible having to give Mr. Montoya and not-so-stellar review update :( I'm all about supporting small local businesses, but me and bf's last couple tailoring jobs were not-so-great. On more than one occasion, we arrived at our designated time to pick up our finished garments (usually like: specific day + morning), only to be told to come back a couple hours later. Luckily for us, our garments were never time sensitive and we had nothing else to do during the day, but this could create an emergency for most people. Plus, wasting gas sucks. My boyfriend got a white dress shirt tailored and it was tailored wayyy too small. Mr. Montoya tried to fix it, but there's really nothing you can do when there's no more fabric to let out. In addition, there were strange oil spots here and there that we couldn't remove with bleach. Eventually after a few wears, the shirt fabric actually split at the side seam. $50 shirt down the drain. read more

A few years ago I went here to have some business clothes altered and Noe did a good job. So a couple months ago when I needed a simple dress altered for my upcoming courthouse wedding, I went to Noe. This was a HUGE MISTAKE because between him and his seamstress they RUINED my dress including being so careless with the dress that they got stains on it. I am saddened to write this review, but in good conscience I do not want others having to go through what I went through. 48 hours before my wedding, I was scrambling to get a new dress. Nordstrom's came to my rescue because Noe completely ruined the dress. He is a nice man, but he probably shouldn't be doing this work anymore. read more

Noe is an awesome man, a remnant of bygone haberdashery of yesteryear. This being said, I'm not sure he's even the one doing the tailoring these days (I've seen others working on clothing in the side room). Last couple visits here, not so great. Simple hem on my new navy suit turned out with a short break, bordering on flood pants. 99% sure it wasn't measured out this way since I usually insist on a medium/long break for pants. Went here based on the recommendations of my fellow Yelpers and was not disappointed. Brought in 1 suit that needed tailoring and a pair of pants that needed repair. Noe was very nice and efficient with everything. He did an excellent job adjusting my suit. Will definitely go back for my future tailoring needs.
