We were passing through Maggie Valley, exploring what it had to offer, and let's face it: Maggie Mountaineer Crafts is the largest gift store in the area, so we figured we should at least go in and see what it had to offer. What we found is realistically exactly what we expected: Lots of kitschy gifts, some made locally but a lot of it made overseas, all of which was stuff that we did not want or need. It was interesting to go around the building and see some of the things, and to look at the produce that was available, but we found some of the produce sitting on the ground rotting, which was sad and not at all appealing. If you need something to remember your trip to this area, by all means this place will have some sort of trinket that will do the job, but just remember that that is what you are going to get here... trinkets. read more

Stopped in to see what they had for tourist gifts and crafts. Anytime we are in Maggie Valley we stop by. They also have fudge which is made on-site. If your party is still shopping and you get tired, you can go sit creekside in the shade. Prices are fair to other similar stores in the area. The staff are mostly friendly. read more

We were excited to find a gift shop open in Maggie Valley and especially excited to see they have fudge. I waited to buy fudge between a really nice elderly lady who was buying g fudge for her family. She was excited to speak to the owner about how she had been to the store back in the 50s. When the owner showed up to speak to her, she was genuinely disinterested and dismissive of the woman behaving as if she had no desire to hear this nice lady's story. It broke my heart for the elderly lady who simply wanted to share a childhood memory and make a connection. The owner of this store either doesn't care about providing good customer service or doesn't know better. I read through the reviews and the negative ones are spot on when it comes to the negative behavior from the owner. On a positive note, the other employees were very friendly and the fudge was delicious! read more

We come up to the family property several times a year to decompress and always stop by Maggie Mountaineer - and it's not just for the fudge. There's a little bit of EVERYTHING here, housewares, seasonal (my Christmas poinsettia suncatchers are coveted by everyone who sees them), the obligatory embroidered sweatshirts, pet stuffs, jams and honeys, knives for the guys, home decor, I can keep going..... And yes, that fudge (Praline Pecan is everything). The ladies were so lovely and carried my purchases to the register, so I didn't have to carry them all around the shoppe. Also, if you walk between the two shops, there is a beautiful area to relax and listen to Jonathan Creek bubble by. And you can still press a Maggie Valley penny. read more

We really enjoyed shopping around this little store while we were waiting for dinner reservations. The store staff were super friendly, prices were reasonable for this kind of store, and the homemade fudge... OMG!! It was so good! They gave us some huge samples of a few flavors and we ended up getting two of them. I should have bought more fudge, I just know it! We'll definitely be back for the fudge! read more

The employees are so very nice and friendly. They go out of their way to make your shopping experience, a good and positive one. My son bought a toy from there, and it broke fairly soon after we bought it. The lady working at the fudge counter made sure my son was taken care of. He got a new truck. She was very kind and giving. We go there every year while on vacation. read more

Mountain related home decor, honey, jams & salsas, moccasins, clothing, local interest books & calendars, bird feeders, flags...something for everyone. We stopped here on our way to Cherokee and looked around before falling for the awesome selections of fudge. We ended up getting some of the cheesecake fudge and I highly recommend it!!! Great deal for two nice size pieces! Two friendly ladies talked to us and we had a nice little conversation about the weather. The elderly lady working here needs to retire. She isn't friendly. I stopped for fudge at 5:55 pm. She wouldn't let me in. Said she closes at 6 pm and I can come back at 8 am. No thanks. I'll head to the Chocolate Bar for fudge. read more

This place is a MUST stop in Maggie Valley! They have all the souvenirs imaginable (shirts, magnets, you name it). Alongside the souvenir items they have cabin decor, jelly's and jams, a kids section, moccasins, lotions and so much more. I always find myself leaving with goodies from this place when I visit every year. However I HIGHLY recommend you try the fresh fudge and chocolate carmel pecan turtles. The owner makes these herself and from experience I'd say the best in town. Before you leave make sure to grab a photo in front of the store with their seasonal decor. I usually visit in the fall and winter and it's always done up beautifully. They also have outdoor seating on the creek behind the shop and rockers to unwind in. I look forward to my trip in the mountains every year and it wouldn't be complete without a stop here. read more

Just astonished at the rudeness displayed by the lady at the register. Came in with my family because this is right by our cabin and dad was so excited to get some fudge. My mom has dementia and misses a lot of social cues. The lady at the front couldn't hide her exasperation when she brought something extra up to the register. There was one person behind us waiting to buy fudge. We held her up at the register for less than five minutes and at least 3 separate times she threw a little temper tantrum and LOUDLY and POINTEDLY told the person behind us how she was SO sorry while she slowly packaged up the $100 worth of merchandise we purchased from her store. We are no stranger to Maggie valley and have never experienced this kind of rudeness here. If you are going to work in customer service and deal with tourists, you need to have patience and manners. You never know what people may have going on in their lives. Shame on her for making my family feel so self conscious over a 5 minute wait. read more

The store itself has a great selection but from what I saw today, the elderly lady selling the fudge needs to retire! We cringed as we listened to her be rude to a teenager who apparently did not realize there was a $5 min for a debit card purchase (goodness sake, she was a young teen!) There was no need to be so snarky. We were about to get in line with our items when she snapped very rudely to an older woman who was joking with her family. I glanced to see if anyone else was checking out customers because there was no way we were going to be this mean woman's next victim. We didn't see another cashier so we sat what would have been our purchases down and left. (Our group found a place for fudge on down the road about a mile on the left and they were very cordial and the fudge was excellent!) We will not be going back to this tourist trap to be waited on by the likes of Cruella Daville! read more

On our first visit to the store we got no further than the front door on our visit today and the rude, as in very rude, and extremely pushy lady behind the fudge counter. She proceeded to talk to us as if we were ten-year-old kids with a nickel to spend. My husband and I are both college educated and can read signs very well. She interrupted a conversation between the two us about our plans for the day, and made a snarky comment on our way out the door about our plans for the day, "Lots of luck with that," that my husband overheard. We spent $5.04, instead of the $20 on take-home fudge we had planned. We will never go in that store again after the very unprofessional welcome we received today. read more
