    Pigeon River, NC with Rob
    L S.

Fly fishing the Pigeon River North Carolina with Rob. Catching rising brook, rainbow and browns on dry flies. Could have landed several more if we had not run out of 6x tippet and caddis flies! Check out that wonky rig with the ant tied to it-and it caught fish! Dry flies are fun! Rob got me out in the river at dawn before the crowd. He's a lifelong fly guy and it shows. We made friends early, and he gave me some good tips. I caught all three-rainbow, brook and brown- two brookies bigger than ever before. The next day I fished private water for storied monster wild trout in Georgia on the Soque River-Fern Valley with Landon of Maggie Valley Fly Shop. I almost had the biggest trout of my life-30inch wild rainbow. No fish story. Fought it and just as Landon was about to net-gone. Beautiful and awesome day flyfishing. Indescribable. The number, type and size of the trout were incredible. Rainbow, Palominos, Browns. The largest congregation of huge 24 inches plus wild trout in the area-maybe in the world. I'd never seen a Palomino in the wild until today, when a dozen of them all over 24 inches refused my fly! Jaw dropping. What a day! Watched Landon catch two monster rainbows plus several normal sized nice fish. The highlight was when he hooked a 40 incher that broke his line and zoomed off jumping in the air six times seeming to angrily protest being fooled by a hook with chicken feathers. That rainbow was salmon-sized. Both of us stood there slack-jawed at this behavior and enormous wild trout! Homeric! I'm bringing a friend with me next year!

My fishing companion was welcomed in the shop and on the water by the Maggie Valley Fly Shop Folks.

Good shop, it's aimed more towards fly fishing than to fly tying but it has a great reputation and atmosphere. I recommend this fly shop

Shannon contacted Hardy Rod company and I believe paid overnight shipping and got me back on the water in 3 days.

Stunning. The Great…read moreSmoky Mountains National Park officially ties with Yosemite as my two favorite national parks in the US. I love everything about this beautiful area of our country. We were there in early spring and enjoyed stunning weather, blooming wild flowers, and bear sightings a-plenty. We also were there when the dogwoods were blooming and there are dogwood trees throughout the park--it was stunning. We enjoyed driving around the park, hiking, and stopping at various points of interest. We were also able to take an accessible hike up a paved trail to the highest point in the park, which was amazing. My eyes seriously just could not get enough of all the gorgeous nature to be enjoyed here. Top notch. Get to it!

The #1 most visited National Park in the USA!…read more We spent three days in Gatlinburg and visited the Kuwohi Observation tower and did the Cades Cove 11 mile drive. Both awesome! Definitely try to get to Kuwohi for sunset. Amazing panoramic views of the blue ridge mountains, and on a clear day you can see as far as four states away! Cades Cove is an early morning must. We beat the crowds by getting there at 6:30am and were done with the 11 mile drive by 9:30am, taking our time to check out most of the stops along the way. Just to note it is closed on Wednesdays to cars when they turn it over to bikes and pedestrians. We also did the Roaring fork motor nature trail which was also very nice and not as chaotic as Cades Cove.

John was great though, he was very patient with her and put us on fish immediately, but pretty slow action. All were pretty small but it was still a good time. We did make a move to another location and the fish got bigger and faster action. By that point she was tired and hungry and wasn't into the fish anymore. The trip stated a "streamside" lunch and drinks, which never happened. Make sure you bring some snacks and waters(even in the cool temps you can dehydrated). The equipment was nice, nothing leaked, and flies were quick to be replaced when lost. I've been on trips when you lost a lure it was like you sacrificed one of their kids to the "Marlin God" All in all the trip was nice. Rich V

The first morning we waded with Jimmy who patiently taught us how to cast, how to read the water and how to land the fish. I caught 6 trout that morning! The next day we met with Dillon who took us on a float trip down the river and once again we had excellent instruction and were able to catch 11 fish between the two of us. Both instructors were professional, patient, personable and knowledgeable. This is the group to use if you are interested in quality of instruction.
