Once a thriving shopping mall, it is now close to its end, with many of the stores and shops closed permanently. The SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh is a very modern and clean hotel near the stores and restaurants still open in the area. Be careful driving into the hotel, as the roads leading into the hotel are full of massive potholes, so you have been warned. This hotel is a suites hotel and has most of the amenities that the brand usually has. This includes meeting rooms, a large lobby, a pool, a well-equipped fitness room and a very good free breakfast. My King suite was laid out in the typical SpringHill Suites format. The room has a living room that separates the bed from the desk with a wall. The bathrooms are clean and bright and have a good ceiling fan. There is a small area when you enter the room where you'll find a mini-refrigerator, coffee stations and a microwave. The rooms also have some modern touches, such as USB outlets and other easily accessible electrical outlets for more devices. The wifi is your standard Marriott Wi-Fi, with an additional tier for Gold members and above at no charge. The breakfast included hot and cold choices as well as fresh fruits, cereals, oatmeal and other items. During my visit, I had a good selection of eggs and meats to choose from. Overall, a great experience, in a modern suites-style hotel, with helpful staff and great amenities. Just watch out for the potholes when you drive in and out of the hotel.

When I told the lady behind the desk I get the government rate she told me unless I have a paper saying I'm here for work she would not honor it. Even though I'm on their list as a gov employee. I even showed her my gov ID. Said didn't matter. The manager won't accept unless I had proof I was working here. I've never had a problem like this. I even told her I had my past receipts from previous stays. I've spent a few thousand bucks staying here over the last month. But after last night giving me a hard time about the gov rate which I think they should honor no matter the circumstances. I think I'll start booking at the Marriott next door.

Room is hard to get into with the very heavy door, and very narrow space to get to the bed area along the kitchen due to the placement of the closet. Those things aside, the furniture in the room room was pretty worn out. The ottoman that went with the lounge chair was dirty and the lining on the bottom was hanging down. The bedspread coverlet over the duvet hid the fact that there were blood or chocolate stains on it until after our second and last night there. There were other housekeeping and maintenance issues but clearly the supervision of staff is not there or the lack of performance is ignored. The only things this place has going for it are the attractiveness of the lobby, some amenities, staff friendliness and location.

It is not the Astoria (which is a five star hotel) or the W (wish is a four star hotel chain) but it is clean, your bathroom works, it does not smell funny, The king suite for $80 is plenty large, the shower is hot, parking is easy, and you are right by I-76 and PA-28. I have stayed here about 8 times. I have never had a bad plug, seen a bug (dead or live), and have definitely never been bitten. My boo, who was staying there with me, is actually more selective than me (generally won't sleep in a hotel under 4 stars if she is in a city), and will ONLY stay at this hotel when we need a room close to her parents... The employees have been nice, there is a limited breakfast in the morning, and fresh hot coffee 24/7 I am only guessing that the other two reviews are from the Holiday Inn management or owners since the Holiday Inn next store smells like ass and costs $30 a night more. There is also a Days Inn in this strip that has the same negative postings about it. I have never stayed there, but might stop in my next visit since my mind is leading me to believe that those posts may also be libel from the Holiday Inn staff.
