    Ceiling crumbling from water damage
    Ivala G.

A few of my photos are not important such as scratched paint. However I booked this room because I had a specialist doctors appointment in the area. It was a more reasonable price than others and now I see why. Upon entering the room I instantly checked for clean bedding. Our room didn't have clean bedding. Some spots were stained, which I get but other spots had fresh dirt. In the coffee pot was a used coffee bag. In the mini fridge was someone's left over chicken wings. Above the bed was paint peeling from previous water damage. There was no smoke detector on the wall which is a safety risk. Also there wasn't any toilet paper stocked in the bathroom and the roll was almost empty. Definitely didn't seem like the room was cleaned or stocked. Was not happy about it & wouldn't recommend staying here. Put your money towards something better.

What are they trying to cover up with the paint

I've stayed in way worse hotels. I've stayed in way better. The room was not clean. It wasn't total filth, but not clean. The walls were dirty. The room was painted and there are drips all over the floor in every area of the room. The towel bar was in the bathroom, broken off the wall. Instead of fixing it, but was just thrown on the bathroom floor behind the trash can. There was also a random pube in the tub along with other particles of dirt when I rinsed out the tub. The water also drained slow and the drain plug was broken. Light fixture by the door flickered constantly. The lamp shade was broken and was blinding me while I sat on the bed with the way it was tilted. The phone. Ewwww. Before we went to bed, yes, I checked to make sure the sheets were changed. I know staffing is an issue right now, but these rooms need to be properly cleaned. The desk people were nice. The breakfast was just standard quick serve fare, but was good. My back didn't feel like death in the morning, so the bed was good. Check out my pics!!!

Filthy phone with 'crumbs' on it!

This is not a place where I would recommend to stay! For some reason all the local hotels of higher quality were booked for miles around and location was important for a funeral attendance. Just look at attached photos for dirty phone, broken and stained lampshades, stained carpet at bedside, peeling surface to toilet seat, unsafe elevator entrance! The smoke detector kept beeps by and replacing the battery did not fix the issue! The only positive was the bed was comfortable and seemed clean!

    Very dark inside

Nice and cheap Bed great very high King bed Low quality 32' tv Very old tub and shower Old toilet New furniture Laminate floor is very uneven in my room Bagels where very stale and hard Dining area very cramped Very quite in my room

This is my worst hotel stay ever! I stayed at other Quality Inns. None of them were this bad and that's why I booked it here. The photos oon hotel.com was nice and I didn't think it was a stretch because, like I said, I've stayed at different Quality Inns. So, I arrive at the hotel and this was the thinnest Quality Inn that I ever stayed at. But, okay! I proceed to the front desk. The lady was friendly. I got the keys and went to the room. .... I was speechless... Inside the door didn't have a hook to actually secure the door. So, I had to use the lock on the door where you manually turn the knob. As I step into the room, things were getting worse. The comforter had stains on it, the walls were dirty, there were mold on the toilet, the room stinked with cigarette stink and was giving me a headache, you could hear everything from the next room like, the people talking, toilet flushing, tv watching, etc. I was so tired from my flight and feeling a bit disgusting, but I really couldn't take a shower because nothing seemed to be clean in the room. Not only old building but horribly maintained! I was hoping I was just going to fall asleep from my exhausting trip, but I couldn't sleep because I Just didn't feel comfortable! I ended up sleeping fully clothed. This was the only time that I really contemplated if I should just go to another hotel! I didn't even have breakfast and rushed out the hotel. My worst nightmare, seriously!

Gross black stuff on the chair!

To start off the check in was great. They let us check in early due an early arrival, and Angie who checked us in was very helpful and friendly. But after that it all went down hill. After we took our stuff to the room we needed ice so there was a cleaning lady right outside our room door so I asked her where the ice machine is and with an attitude she responded "downstairs" I said ok well downstairs is big where at downstairs? She said Ugh, just go down those steps and it's right there. Ok well exxxcccuussee me for asking an employee where something is. Totally rude! And my girlfriend and I are in the service industry so we get it. Stuff gets tedious and rough but no need to treat guests with such disrespect. Then once we get back to the room and settle in we notice there is gross black stuff on the chairs and dirty marks all over the wall and the tub was absolutely filthy with dirt and grime all over the bottom of the tub. Then the complimentary breakfast was no bueno! Well the waffles were good but that's just because you have to make them yourself and then there was no syrup to even go with them. Then the scrambled eggs were rubbery and the sausage wasn't even cooked all the way through. Listen for me having to pay $90 some to spend a night there this was absolutely not worth it and I will never do it again nor will I recommend it to anyone I know!!!

I stayed here one night because I thought the trendy Bloomfield neighborhood would provide a nice change-of-pace from the more established downtown area. I was also planning to drive to upstate New York and thought this would be a convenient location for a faster getaway. Well, a sudden winter snowstorm forced me to cancel the side trip to New York, and I ended up spending very little time exploring Bloomfield because I took a long nap in my room after a sleepless night in the previous hotel. Even though it was bordering on pointless to shift to this hotel, I still enjoyed the studio I reserved for $152. There was a comfortable king bed, a fully equipped kitchen, a corner sofa, and a 360-degree swivel flatscreen TV. It was a lot of amenities I didn't need, but hey, it was freezing cold, so the apartment set-up made it feel cozy. One other advantage was a sizable lot to park my rental SUV. Even though they offered a happy hour and continental breakfast, I skipped both. Instead I braved the cold and just strolled on Baum to find a decent greasy spoon for dinner and a quiet gay bar for a drink. Not a bad stay, and I'd consider a return to explore Bloomfield. The lobby area was really pretty and so much larger than it appears from outside. Free breakfast! The pool was nice and heated. We had it to ourselves both times we went in it during our stay. The hotel is located is a great area. Cons: It seems like the furniture was poor quality. Multiple times during the stay there was a panel that kept falling off the table in the kitchen area. The parking is pricey. I absolutely hate paying for parking. I wish this came with the hotel stay as it was also already priced on the higher end. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. I would probably pick a day that didn't fall on a holiday weekend for a less expensive stay.

This past weekend (checking in Friday, June 12; checking out Sunday, June 14) was the end. When I checked in, another guest was at the front desk requesting a fan. The person checking me in seemed involved with that, so they didn't seem concerned with filling me in. It turned out, however, that the air-conditioning was broken for the entire hotel. After around a half-hour, I really started to notice the heat and humidity in my room. My wife was arriving later (after a difficult air-travel day), so I went back to the front counter to inquire about the AC. This time, there was one couple checking in with the person I had spoken to. and that couple was given extensive detail about the AC issue. When it was my turn, I noted that I had just checked in and got none of that detail. She told me then that there was no way of knowing when the AC would be fixed, but if it wasn't fixed by 6 p.m., there would be a discount; or, if we chose to leave, there would be no charge. Something, at least. A little while later, the AC kicked on. Excellent! I set the AC as low as possible to cool things off. The AC was actually set to 62 degrees from Friday evening to Sunday morning. Despite that, the coolest it got was 68 degrees on Sunday morning. Midway through the day on Saturday afternoon, it was around 77 as we were trying to get dressed for a wedding. (There were actually two wedding parties staying at the hotel for the weekend, all dealing with poor AC at a supposedly "luxury" hotel). We called back to the front desk about 1 p.m. Saturday, and they expressed shock that our room was not cooler because the AC had been fixed. A few minutes after our call, the room began to cool to a reasonable temp (though, again, never anywhere near the actual temp it was set to). My wife decided the hotel was intentionally turning off the AC to try to save money. I decided that they weren't being intentionally malevolent, but rather they were just inept. Either way, the hotel absolutely failed to live up to what it had once been. We won't be recommending or returning again. Also of note: - The hotel website notes its Spirits and Tales restaurant is open for lunch on Saturday and Sunday. But don't be fooled into thinking that means you can order lunch on Saturday; they only have their brunch menu (which is almost identical to their breakfast menu. The salads and sandwiches on their lunch menu are not available.) That said, at least we could get into the restaurant this time. On a previous stay, we arrived to discover the entire restaurant and bar had been booked by another party, so we had to go elsewhere for a drink. - The hotel's other restaurant, Cork and Crust, is also not open for lunch on Saturday or Sunday. So if you do want lunch on the weekend, don't expect to get it at this hotel. (The pizza I purchased Friday night was fine; I wasn't a big fan of the non-traditional Margherita pizza (with pesto and slices of garlic), but I'm picky about pizza.) - The carpet in our room was fraying. The mini-bar refrigerator was empty. - Apparently, the hotel was used as an overflow space for students from the University of Pittsburgh in recent times. That may explain why things are a little worn. But the idea that I'm paying luxury hotel prices for a glorified dormitory is a little much for me. The one positive is the man working the desk downstairs at the Lower Lobby. He's been there for a number of years, and he always remembers my wife and I (even if it's been a while since we were last there). He's kind, friendly, and helpful. The parking valets are always fast and friendly too, but the main guy at the desk really does an excellent job.

I was immediately blown away with the foyer! At check in, there is fruit infused water to quench your thirst. Make sure you keep your room key in hand because you will need it to operate the elevator (once in, hold it against the black box until light turns green and quickly select your floor). The hallways were incredible! And still had their old charm! I even picked up the old fashioned telephone and it rings the front desk! You can use it shall you need something ... if for some reason you cannot enter your room, just pick up the black phone in the hallway and they will come to you (this didn't happen to me, but just a tip if it does). I stayed in room 1470 and absolutely love my view of the gothic architecture of the Union Trust. I looked out my window a million times! The size of my room was huge! I could have done cartwheels all over the place! The WiFi is complimentary for guests. There's cable TV. Maybe other options too but I didn't have my tv on much to know. The water pressure deserves its own special shout out! Holy moly it was heaven! And the brand of washes they had was nice! Usually the conditioner isn't good enough in hotels for my hair but this was just fine! And there's a good blow dryer on the back of the door (I still used my own because I have a lot of hair and it's long BUT had I forgotten it, their hair dryer would have been just fine at 1875 watts. There's a tag on your door that you can hang if you'd like to skip housekeeping for a day and the hotel will donate a meal for doing so .. check out the tag for more info! There's also cards you can put on your bed if you want your bedding changed. I was never bothered in my room by housekeeping. I was never bothered by noise. I never experienced a phony phantom call to my room. (All things I've experienced at other places). You will get a free drink at checkout you can get a beer at the tap room or a coffee at Mellon Square (on site). It is not good for the speakeasy ... and yes, it's a real speakeasy that existed in the 1920s you could access thru tunnels under the city! So cool! On checkout day, the event I attended was going to start early and finish after checkout time. Since I was up late the night before, the front desk said I was welcome to bring my bags down now for bellhop to hold, but they also put me for a late checkout at 1pm so I could come down late the next day too. So partway thru the event just before 1pm I brought down my bags and they held them for the next 90 mins I was there. I parked across the street at the Mellon square parking garage ... Apple GPS marks the garage in the wrong place FYI ... it marks it about a block away but it is directly across the street from the hotel, with the entrance to it being on the cross street. I paid $44 to park there from Thursday around 5pm to Sunday around 3pm. Not bad. They do have valet parking at the hotel too but that is $55 per day I believe. Leaving was sad. I would have liked more time to enjoy this place. I would love to come back sometime! I have nothing bad to say about this place. Wonderful staff and incredible hotel! Thank you for this amazing stay!
