This monorail is really awesome. I actually enjoyed my rides on here greatly. It is the fastest way to get to the Magic Kingdom and resorts and it is easily one of the most beautifully picturesque rides as well. As you ride, you get a great view of everything this area has to offer - the resorts, the beautiful lake, the wedding pavilion, the park (of course), etc. The monorails come about every 5-6 minutes, so if you miss one it's really no big deal. When I was there, the monorail was wrapped in an Avengers themed ad, which was pretty cool. I don't love the Marvel/Disney acquisition but I do love me some Avengers! read more

I wish they would expand this to the airport...hint hint..... In honor or our oldest's birthday, which is today, I'll finish my review to the monorail. We have a very sad "original-ish" version here in Seattle, it's really dated compared to WDW, well heck, even DL!! Here this one is used to the fullest, and while there are other vehicle options from the TTC to the maingate, this ride is the best! Wonderful views, AC, and nice seats, that is if you can find one. I also like the fact this is the easiest ride to get onto in a wheelchair or while on crutches. Castmembers bring wheelchairs to the front of the line, have them sit on the empty side of the gates while you wait for the next monorail to come. Then they push out a metal plate and let you slide on first before the "rest" of the crowd tries to push their way on! We used the tram a few times coming and going to EPCOT. It is a little challenging for large families with large strollers. You may have to fold them to fit or wait until you are the first ones to board and then take the whole cab. All in all it was easy with very minimum waiting. They have the ability to move massive amounts of people in a very short period of time. Also if you are going to the Magic Kingdom or Epcot One of my pet peeve is why do i need to walk all the way around to get the Epcot monorail and vice versa. Why isn't there a more direct path to and from the two monorail system. We were staying at the Bay Lake Towers for our summer vacation. Instead of one stop from the transportation hub to the Contemporary. Look, I don't know what to tell you. It gets you from point A to point B but in the two experiences I have had with it, there were technical difficulties which stopped the trains which caused long lines which turned down frowns from the previously made smiles that Mickey built. :( We used the monorail for the first time Monday morning. We had just dropped a rental car off at Alamo and it was our first time going into Disney World! We were stoked. 20 minutes of standing in line for the monorail to get moving took the wind out of our sails. It was hot and all we wanted to do was to board the train but something was wrong, and it took forever. When we finally boarded, of course we were packed in like Japanese businessmen going to work, but that was at least understandable because everyone was in the same boat (backwards pun). Thankfully, the train got to Magic Kingdom fast enough when it was working. It was just the brutal waiting for the train that killed me. Later that evening, we used the monorail again to take us to dinner at Citricos in the Grand Floridian Resort Hotel. This time, we got on just fine but then the train stopped for 15 minutes at the Contemporary Resort because of, you guessed it, technical difficulties again. So the monorail ended up making us late for our reservation. Thankfully this wasn't too big a deal except that we just had to wait a little longer at the restaurant for a new table to open up. I'll be using the monorail system again tomorrow evening when we go to dinner at Narcoossee's, which is also in the exquisite Grand Floridian Resort Hotel. I am hoping and crossing my fingers that we will have a good experience then! ***UPDATE*** Rather than take our chances with the monorail, we instead opted to spring for a cab to Narcoossee's and back. So I guess my original two star rating stands. I hope you have a better experience with the monorail than we did. read more

There isn't anything more iconic than the monorail system at the Disney parks. Some people have even memorized the safety announcement that is in English and Spanish. Diehard fans! The monorail system connects the Ticket and Transportation System to Magic Kingdom, along with Epcot and a handful of other Disney hotels. During busy times, you'll probably have to stand and hold the pole. You'll also probably be stuck next to a screaming kid in a stroller, but at least the ride isn't too long. At the end of the night at MK, there can be a long line to get onto the monorail to make it back to your car. read more

The Monorail at Walt Disney World is a different way to get from A to B and the views throughout the ride make it that much better. The only negative for me is that they no longer allow you to sit in the front or rear cars where the operator is located, as they had an accident in 2009 and I'm sure the Disney lawyers made that call. It was pretty cool as a little kid (and a bog kid too for that matter!) to see what it looked like pulling into the cavernous Contemporary. The Monorail does get backed up at peak times, especially on the express route from the Transportation and Ticket Center to the Magic Kingdom. Worst case, you are in the AC and if you time it right, you have a pretty nice view of the fireworks. I definitely recommend the ride to Epcot - it is much longer but the tour around the park makes for great pictures. read more

Is there a better way to get around than Monorail? I highly doubt it. With regularly running trains (both before and after the park closes), you can get to and from the park with kids in toe without much difficulty. My biggest complaint is occassionally the wet seats from the air conditioners dripping, but that is to be expected a bit as condensation occurs from all the opening of the doors. read more

I wish they could expand the monorail to the other parks. You could truly 'hop' from park to park if your ticket allows. The monorail is usually the transportation of choice (vs. the ferry) when going to Magic Kingdom. But if the line is long (or the train is down like my last visit) the ferry is the option. If I'm doing MK later in the day and I don't want to park in BFE, I will actually park at Epcot where I can get close to the park. Hop on the monorail there and switch trains at the Transportation & Ticket Center. It takes a little longer, but when I can park FIVE rows from the entrance, it's worth it. You do have to go through the security bag check, but you don't have to to through the ticket gate to do this. Like many others - and maybe they'll allow it again one day - I do miss being able to ride in the car with the operator and getting my 'license'. It offers some of the best views (greater than 180 degrees) of the Walt Disney World & resort areas. read more

Announcement: "Now Boarding"! All aboard the monorail that will take you to surrounding hotels and to Epcot Center. My 8-year-old fascination with spacecraft-like transportation suddenly kicked in. It was fun meeting parents on the monorail that were on it just to keep their little one entertained. It's kind of like another ride and Disney and even cooler than a train, IMO. My family & I took a ride on the monorail to head over to The Grand Floridian for dinner and it was a peaceful ride. Got us there in no time at all. The only thing I was disappointed with was that it smelled a little like urine. Spray some Febreeze in there or something; it felt a lot like riding a public bus in a big city. Another great way to get from point A to point B around the massive Disney properties. I am thankful for this free mode of transport offered. After a long day of walking and fighting the heat, there is nothing I want more than to sit in an air-conditioned seat and be transported with little to no effort on my part. read more

Monorail breaks down frequently. I waited once in a crowded, hot monorail for 45 minutes while standing in midair. When it finally moved, it took us back to our original location with no apologies. Now the lines are so crowded and it still breaks down. At least this time I was sitting. read more

So in its day I'm sure it was a pretty cool thing. Sadly hasn't stayed up with the times and seems like it was a system that just wasn't a priority to update or upkeep. Other cities have a system based off of this and are much more modern and efficient. Trying to find a time when these trains are actually operating is a challenge in itself. If you do get on one the look of wear and tear is pretty obvious and the smell is pretty much of mildew coming from the a/c vents. It's great mode of getting around just wish there where more areas it went to and a better schedule. read more

Good cheesy fun. We rode the monorail just to ride it (my son loves trains) and had a good time, especially going through the Contemporary Resort. It was like something out of Logan's Run (if you are old enough or awesome enough to know what that is). One of the tracks was under repair, so we eventually had to take a bus where we wanted to go, but my son got to ride it out and back, so he was very happy. read more

A great way to get around the park and to see the different resorts. Make sure you take time to visit the different resorts and the restaurants. This is usually a favorite activity to do when it's raining out or you need a break from the heat. The only downside is they can become quite packed like sardines. read more

If you are blessed enough to be able to say at one of the deluxe hotels you will have the Magic Kingdom Monorail available to get to Magic Kingdom from the hotels without having to get on a Disney bus or into your vehicle. Eh. The monorails are extremely dated. Cast Members love shoving as many people as possible into one tiny section. I over heard someone asking if they could go in the next monorail due to high levels of anxiety and claustrophobia and the Cast Member rudely said, "You can get into this one or get in the back of the line." Really took away from the nice Disney feel.. Please update these monorails. They malfunction all the time as well as creak and rattle around. Disneyland's monorails were updated in 2008 and are outstanding. read more

Convenient alternative to shuttles or driving that carries passengers from magic kingdom to Epcot, resorts and parking structures. My purpose of the monorail was to strictly travel from magic kingdom to Epcot so I can ride my shuttle to the hotel. (Because my shuttle busses to seralago only picks up from Epcot). Was fortunate to make the last shuttle because of the monorail because it's way faster than on the road. It does get really crowded especially during near of park closing but it manages to do its job! Limited seats in each carriage but good amount of standing space! Comes pretty frequently from what I saw! Anyways... Great alternative and additional route for the already crowded Disney parks!! Maybe it's the retro futurist in me, but I still get excited to ride the Monorail. Who has time to take the ferry boat? Here is my monorail travel tip. When arriving at the monorail station from the parking lot - and it looks pretty crowded - go ahead and take the Monorail marked Resort Properties. This rarely has a line and although it goes in the opposite direction; it will likely get you to the Park Entrance faster with a nice tour of the park. I like the part where it goes through the Contemporary Resort. You are welcome. read more

Getting from Magic Kingdom to the parking lots may seem complicated. But with the Disney World Monorail, you are always in luck. Not only is the monorail always conventional and cooled(by each car with air conditioning), but these monorails are efficient(and always seem to run quickly between station in periodic fashion). The employees(or at least the most of them) seem to always know what they are doing when driving. The stations, however, seem to run like clock-work. At peak times(beginning of day and closing of day), the stations tend to be a bit more crowded, but they do stay running as long as there are people to ride to and from the parking lots(near the Ticket and Transportation Center). I always like taking the monorail, no matter when I go to this park. read more

I absolutely LOVE Magic Kingdom, however, a few things were unappreciated. They allow smoking? I thought this was a child friendly place as well as for the young at heart? It really killed the fairy tale that they catered to the "adults" with smoking areas. If you want to smoke, go do it outside the theme park as I am not paying nearly $80 a day to be in a smoke filled enviorment for over 10 hrs. Yes, there were designated areas for this but of course people were still walking about and lighting up which was RUDE. I came all this way for the INNOCCENT experience of my childhood fantasies. I never got to go as a kid and I kinda wish my parents had taken me because I heard it was a lot more family oriented back in the 90's. Now you have to pay to have photos with your favorite characters and they no longer just stoll down the street with you. My other gripe was how far the parking lots were from the actual theme park. it took two additional modes of transportation to get to and form which kind of forced you to stay there all day, even though the food is constly. I enjoyed it overall, the fire works were awsome, although, very crowded and unsafe as far as seeing what you were stepping on. I almost flew off a step because everyone was crowded around the Sleeping Beauty's castle and there was hardly room to stand so once you needed to get by, you couldn't see obstacles on the ground due to lack of lighting. I was also dissapointed that the Space Mountain here was nothing like LA's. The sound affects were missing and this one had a sudden drop, not to mention the entire ride was quite shaky and bumpy. But alas, my childhood insticts tell me it's the closest I will ever come to reliving my childhood fantasies. My recommendation is bring a backpack, a refillable water bottle, sun glasses, sunscreen, a point and shoot camera as well as a DSLR (and trust me..you''ll need both, depending on what you'r shooting/spare batteries also), along with some snacks. You'll be needing them, unless you're willing to spend a lot of food. read more

Here We Go! Broken Down! It's Up! Nope Down... Overall: 2.75 Stars During my visit to Disney the Magic Kingdom monorail was up and running 60% of the time. We were able to avoid the majority of the issues, but when we needed it the most after the "Wishes Nighttime Spectacular" we were out of luck and had to wait 30-45 minutes for the ferry with 80% of the patrons exiting the park. The monorail runs smoothly on the rail with seating for 16-20 people in each car. The space is poorly utilized as the center of each car is blocked off by seating. With the large quantity of baby carriages in each car standing room quickly becomes limited. This is probably the NYC subway rider in me who is unhappy. There are no jolts and quick stops along the way. It remains smooth the whole way. Despite all the issues it is your fastest route in and out of the Magic Kingdom and is one of the most iconic rides/attractions/destinations/transportation in all of Disney. read more
