I have to say, if I could give zero stars I would. A few girlfriends and myself were very excited to enjoy a girls night out at a comedy show that was being hosted at the magic lantern. The comedy show was great...the customer service not so much. The woman who purchased tickets was not aware that in order to purchase alcohol that you need to buy balcony tickets. So, we explained this to the ticket counter. She was dismissive and very short simply telling us "no" when we asked to upgrade our tickets and we're willing to pay the difference. So, we asked to see the manager to see what she could do. The manager was more rude and dismissive. She simply repeated the line "it's company policy" over and over again like a robot. I asked for a little humanity (letting us change our seats this one time...it was not a sold out show) and she again repeated its company policy. We were not asking for a lot here. They could have kept some customers by simply allowing us to change our seats for the night and I would have gone back to the Magic Lantern many times. I told her that this was really disappointing and that none of us would be back at the magic lantern again. Her only response was "Well that's your prerogative." Well done magic lantern. I'm really glad you stuck to your guns and adhered to a very confusing policy. Good work. That interaction was not how you get locals to frequent your location. read more

We were looking to see a movie, and get some good food....why not combine them? We saw "Art of Racing in the Rain". What a great movie! If you like dogs, and/or you like racing, you should see this movie!! The food for dinner? It was very good. Maybe losing a star for seating us in the bright sun? or maybe 1/2 star? Service was good. My favorite theater, only wish it was closer to home. This place is amazing! It was rebuilt a while back since the old building was sitting on a sink hole and the creativity that went into its rebuild makes it a truly special place. Each theater is gorgeously themed and outfitted with comfy seats and balconies where adults can enjoy alcoholic drinks. There is a pub with a smaller screen as well and they have occasional events. Even the bathrooms are fancy and themed. Very fun place. read more

This theater is located in the downtown of Bridgton, Maine. The staff is very friendly and the theaters are very clean unlike the chain cinemas. The theater is also uniquely decorated and helps adds to the experience. Prices are also very cheap with matinee's priced at $6.00 and the adults priced at $7.50 a ticket. They do offer a variety of candy and beverages at the front counter but buyer beware, prices are just as high as other theaters. This past summer they held in conjunction with Bridgton Books a Stephen King book signing. It was a very hot day and they made sure to keep the line moving and provided refreshments and a light snack. Both staffs were friendly and made the wait go by faster. read more

The magic lantern is a soulless carcass of what was once a vibrant Community gem. The staff is miserable and doesn't understand the first thing about the movie industry or being an exhibitionist. The projectors they use or not correctly collaborated and have a white washed look to the movie. As well as the deliberate lazy mess by staff. They save the popcorn overnight and reserve stale popcorn to customers. This theater was once open 7 days a week and was very popular. I am deeply sad every time I go in there now. read more

Shame on me for not reviewing this place sooner...i actually thought I had...this theater is not a big one that you find in cities but a quaint, up to date, old theater. The sound system is excellent along with the projection equipment. When you are in the lobby area, you can catch a glimpse of what cinema was in the past. Ticket prices are fantastic at 7 dollars for a 4:15 matinee. What a bargain compared to NY...It is a locally owned establishment that has partnered up with University of Maine to support the local community and their youth. Very proud to support this theater...if you are in the area, go and support a local business that gives back to community. read more

This is my favorite movie theater in the whole world it's like being in a Stephen King novel. It's small but not too small you can get an alcoholic drink delivered to you in comfortable seating old style balconies, friendly staff, modern projectors and audio. Plenty of parking and restaurants nearby, have a picnic before your movie, take a walk in the woods in the park behind the theater. If shopping sure thing stop at Menards before your movie this is quintessential World Maine. read more

This is more or less a response to Vanessa H's negative review. I decided to set up an account and write this "review" because I could see you writing yours in front of me WHILE THE MOVIE WAS PLAYING. My family comes to the Magic Lantern as often as we can. It's a little farther than our town's movie theater, but the staff, prices, and atmosphere can't be beat and it's worth the extra drive. You, Vanessa, were the only reason that I did not enjoy my experience this time. We were behind you at the concessions line as well as in the theater and your disrespectful attitude towards the employees was distracting and uncalled for. They are only doing their job! As soon as you walk in it clearly says no outside food, drinks, or backpacks. Unfortunately the staff had to remind you multiple times that the items you brought in weren't allowed (calmly, from my prospective) and now you're writing a negative review because you weren't willing to cooperate? Kudos to the staff for biting their tongues. If I wasn't with my daughter, I would have said something myself. I grew up in Naples, just a town over from Bridgton, and the Magic Lantern used to be a great inexpensive movie theater in the center of bridgton. Throughout my childhood I saw a great number of first-run movies there, and always enjoyed it. Recently I was back in Maine and had the opportunity to go back to the Magic Lantern after it had been rebuilt and redesigned. The ladyfriend and I decided to take in a 7pm showing of Where the Wild Things Are and grab a bite to eat in their new pub. The redesign is gorgeous, it's classy and old-fashioned and has a great hometown feel. The theater we were in was beautiful with excellent decor, and even had balcony seating! The pub area was well-designed, comfortable, and had great service. The food was just standard pub fare, but the beer was predominantly local -- which is great! The movie tickets were under $7 a piece, and snacks were around $3, and a medium soda (the huge movie variety medium) was only $3 as well. It's impossible to get these kinds of prices at most theaters. It was cute, well-priced, and in great condition. If I still lived in Maine I'd go all the time! The Magic Lantern isn't what it used to be, it's better! If you're in the Bridgton area it's definitely worth a stop in. The food in the pub won't bowl you over, but everything else will. read more

RUDEST people I have ever met! Ever! I had water bottles in my back pack. That's not allowed. Totally get that. So I took them out of my bag and put them in the car. Paid for cups of water. Whatever. Kept my back pack with diapers and wipes in it. The rude manager waited for me outside the bathroom and said I couldn't have outside water. "Ok. No problem. I already took them to my car." Then 5 minutes later she walks into the movie. YELLS and points her finger "that back pack needs to go NOW!" Wow lady! Never coming here again. After posting on Yelp, I finally received a response to the private email I sent weeks ago to the Magic Lantern. The response from the Magic Lantern offered no apology or accepted any responsibility for their poor service. Our complaints were dismissed and we were informed that the staff did us a favor by offering to box up our meals and bring them to into the theater. No thanks, the idea of eating soggy burgers on my lap in a dark theater is less than appetizing. read more

this place is awesome! all movie theaters should be like this. It's a super cute place, feels really clean and new but also colorful and interesting. pub is nice, had a good beer (Shipyard, I think) and excellent Pineland Farms burger in the pub before our movie and then got a $1.50 grab bag of sweets and watched our movie from the balcony seats. I like the quirky antique-shop decorations (esp. dig the suit of armor in the pub) and general vibe is way funner than the normal movies, PLUS the movie tickets are $6! I plan on only watching movies at the Magic Lantern from now on. read more

I've been going here for years, and the place has changed a lot but in a good way. It's a very nice modern theater, but it has a classic vibe if that makes sense. Also for those 21+ the balcony is awesome! You can get drink service which they deliver to you after you take your seats. Movie ticket prices and concessions are cheaper than most as well. read more

Fabulous movie theater. Comfortable tiered seating, love the balcony (beer delivered to your seat!). Reasonable prices for movie and the freshly popped corn! Pub food menu is what you'd expect, but it is well prepared, as ordered, good portions, excellent service. Great place to watch the game, huge screen, no bad seats. The Tannery Pub: We came here for our kids' last night before sleep away camp hoping to get a decent last meal together and unfortunately had a bad experience. The menu was not up-to-date doe food or beer/wine. The waitstaff was fine, but the food leaves much to be desired. The nachos were just alright. The meat eaters liked the pulled Pork on the nachos because it wasn't "saucy". Then the problem occurred-they forgot my my son's burger, but delivered the rest of our food. They rushed his burger and although he ordered it medium well, they served it less than rare. It was bloody and probably still cold inside. They comped his meal because we had to leave at that point. I talked to the manager and we got 20% more off due to our "unenjoyable" meal. Overall, service was fine, food that was delivered on time was ok, but overall experience was not so great. Nice big screen to watch the Sox game on though. In Maine, stick to a lobstah pound. read more

I live in Bridgton and feel very fortunate to have the Magic Lantern here. My only issue is the selection of movies...they are mostly for kids, or Marvel action hero type, or slashers! We love this theater. Years ago when I had 6 kids, we could afford the family pack on Sunday afternoons. We brought our kids there to see Star Wars and even though it was a small theater, it was one of the first theaters in Maine to have Dolby sound. It was outstanding to see Star Wars with Dolby at that time. The fine theater tradition goes on. The whole "going to the movies" ambiance is still alive and well at the Magic Lantern. The decor is outstanding, the staff is friendly and welcoming, the pub food is very good. We love the decor and also the balcony seating. The seats are really comfortable and the rest rooms are about the best I've seen. As senior citizens, we can enjoy a night at the movies with popcorn for only $15.00. We'll be loyal patrons forever. read more

To whom is may concern, I don't ever write reviews about anywhere, whether is good or bad. But this experience has bothered me enough that I felt a need to. I am writing in regards to my most recent visit at the Magic Lanterns restaurant, Tannery Pub, NOT the theater. I have been to eat there about 4 previous times before my last, and have always left full, satisfied and content, and have felt the food to be quite tasty. As for my last visit, on 12/16/17 after watching The Last Jedi with my 7 year old son, family and friend, it is likely that before or after any movie we may see there in the future, I will be dining elsewhere. Our server was nice enough upon first impression, but quickly realized that she was inattentive towards her customers. There were quite a few tables seated upon arrival, but within 10 minutes all but our table and another had been cleared due to another movie viewing. So a total of 2 tables. It took about 10 minutes to get our drinks. Another 20 to get a small bowl of chili appetizer. And then another 20 get our food. We figured the kitchen was busy with getting food together for the movie goers. Two of us got the pulled pork over corn bread waffle with apple slaw. The apple slaw sounded great, and I love corn bread. To be blunt here, it sucked. There was maybe a teaspoon of slaw on top of a pile of pulled pork with two diced pieces of apple in it. The pulled pork was lukewarm, and the corn bread waffle was so dry and tasteless, pretty sure the kitchen had made it the day before. It could have been great any other night, but not that night. My friend didn't bother eating the waffle, but just ate the pork and salad, and was left feeling very unsatisfied. Myself, was incredible hungry and had skipped lunch knowing I would be going out to dinner. So I sucked it up and just ate it to fill the void. My very last bite, the night even got better. I chewed the waffle. I went to swallow the waffle, and as it started to slide down the back of my throat, that dry bit of waffle EXPANDED, and stuck in my throat blocking my airway. I tried swallowing at first, but it was so thick and dry it didn't want to budge. And in my head I'm thinking "Sh*t, really?" My heart hurts rate speeds up instantly and I make another effort of swallowing, and another, and another. Finally it worked its way down. Finally it budged. It was the longest 8 seconds of my life. That may not be long to you, but if you put yourself in that situation, you might think differently. My friend sitting across from me asked if I was ok, everyone had been engaged in conversation that my moment had gone unobserved. I told them what had happened and decided we would let the waitress know how and why we were unsatisfied. She comes to collect our plates and we mention the dry waffle first, and she says she doesn't know what it would be dry. I then tell her it was so dry I choked on it. She looks at me and motions with her hand around her face and says "yeah, your face is a little..." A little what? Really? Then she asks my son, " how about You buddy? Was everything good?" "Yes" he says. Well let me tell you, just about any 7 year old is going to be happy with a corn dog that comes out of the freezer with a side of fries. And when he said yes, it seems as though that made everything ok in her eyes. About 5 minutes later she comes back with our check, full price mind you. She didn't even try to make it right. We sat there another 5 minutes to see maybe? No attempt. So we leave. An email is sent to management to regarding our experience and our displeasure. Another opportunity to make right. The response? "The party had left the building before we could correct the situation." We were there a solid ten minutes after it was brought to their attention, and before the bill was even run! The food is sometimes good, but dang the customer service we had that one time is enough to keep me away for a while. I won't recommend them anymore, like I have in the past. read more

Outstanding! Ok, first the pub - the burgers are all from Pineland Farms and I believe are grass fed, all natural and organic. Plus, they are VERY affordable at $6-7. The place itself is immaculate. The bathrooms are PRISTINE. Beer prices and food prices make this such an affordable night out. This is the flagship of the town of Bridgton and would be in any town in Maine. The owners have a passion for what they do and they even have $10/buckets (5 beers) on game days. How can you beat that! The movie theater is immaculate as well and about as fun and funky as you can imagine. Grab some nachos and a beer for the movie and have fun! DO NOT MISS THIS SPOT!! read more

We had a horrible experience at this theater! First off, this is a very small theater and not worth the money, quality is poor. The staff was so incredibly rude and belligerent! It honestly seemed like the theater attendent had a mental problem where he gets off on tormenting customers! He acted completely crazy and scared the bejesus out of me and my 3 kids! Kids had feet on back of seat and for this they threw us out of the theater! Not on top of seat mind you and not bothering anyone as there was no one sitting in the row in front of us! They were just resting feet on back of seat like they do in every movie we ever go to, the attendent threw us out and screamed at us. The Magic Lantern Theater is an amazing complex of theaters along with a cafe restaurant. No expense was spared in the design and construction of this complex. Hard to believe that such a facility could exist in this small Maine town. You have to experience it to blieve it. read more

I didn't eat food at this place. I did attend a movie and took advantage of have an adult beverage served to me in the balcony during the movie. It took over 35 minutes to bring the beer up a flight of stairs. I believe if I did not go down to inquire after 35 minutes, I may still be waiting. The staff never offer to apologize or ask if there was anything they could do to smooth over there lack of service. I was told it was on the tray and would be there soon. I told the person I order a beer at 7pm and its now 7;35. Nothing. I told her that several folks have come after us and received their orders. Nothing. I will never recommend the Tannery to anyone.
