I was a little nervous to go here with all the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. The seats were comfortable. The food is all bar food and not the greatest but what I was expecting at the movies. I got a chicken wrap and it was fine, the fries were hot and good. The service was attentive! We love going to Smitty's and drive all the way from Scarborough. The food is tasty, and the prices aren't outrageous. The office chairs are a little different but I have restless legs and like to fidget so I like them. Most importantly, the staff here is noticeably gracious and friendly. This applies to the management as well as the waitstaff/counter workers. I'm not sure how they do it, but in a time when subpar customer service is ubiquitous, this Smitty's location is like a breath of fresh air. So as a movie fanatic that goes out to the movies at least once a month, I have to say that Smitty's was very disappointing. We were told great things about it through a friend's recommendation, but when we got there- it was very dirty! And not like regular movie theater dirty... I'm talking rugs haven't ever been vacuumed, counters and movie seat table tops haven't ever been wiped down, every menu was covered in stickiness and grossness. And to top it off, the entire theater smelled like cat pee! It was so strong that we couldn't enjoy our movie like normal and get sucked into it because we kept smelling the stink! The workers are kind and the bathrooms are clean, the rolling office chair seats are comfortable, and the overall idea for a dinner theater is wonderful! Our server even gave me a plate of pickle spears because I wanted a pickle and they don't sell those (it's a normal thing at Cinemax people, I'm not crazy!!) and that was so accommodating!I'm sure this is also a great getaway to take kids. However, this place is just not worth the drive, time, or money to me and I will stick with the luxury loungers at Cinemax for now. I understand it's an old place, but it really does need a deep clean because it it was too dirty to look past. read more

Upon entering the building, there was an overwhelming smell of cat urine. This set the tone. The service was very good and our server was great, attentive and very nice. The food was horrible. I have been to this cinema two time over the last couple of months and I have not been pleased with them. This cinema is a terrible place to go for many reasons. First, the lighting in the cinema is to bright to see the movie screen and makes the whole place feel uncomfortable. The food was terrible. I ordered some soda and fries hoping the experience would get better, however, I was wrong. The soda was warm and had hard stuff on the bottom of the cup and the fries were cold and stiff. The stuff on the bottom of the drink WAS NOT ICE!!! The staff did not care about the complaints or the happiness of the the customers. The whole place a weird in that the seats were old office chairs and had clearly had been abused. The chair was also sticky along with the table. The room was also hot!! I DEFINITELY DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! It should be shut down. read more

My whole family loves this place! The seats are super comfy, rolling, reclining chairs. I've pretty much eaten my way through their menu and haven't been disappointed yet. The name of the dishes are clever plays on movie titles or characters. This visit the Thor burger was big and juicy and The love me tenders were crispy, but perfectly coated in buffalo sauce. The Couch Potato Skins we're hearty, not hollowed out. Oh and I almost forgot, they serve "adult beverages!" Definitely give this place a try! On Tuesdays, every movie ticket is just $5! read more

Up to a 5 star this review. Saw the movie Free Guy (Hilarious!!). We ordered some sweet potato fries and a couple drinks. She had water with a lime and I had a lemonade. Courtesy of Yelp checking in, we also got a free medium popcorn. The sweet potato fries were wicked hot and wicked tasty! No issues asking for honey mustard with it (think it comes with that) and the popcorn was very good. Service was excellent. Super weird place and not efficient set up. Buy your tickets and concessions at one place and the line gets crazy long. The seats are set up at a table or counter. We made the mistake sitting in the back with these type of seating charts don't sit in the back sit close or it'll be so hard to see. We were thankful we were able to move our seats. Personally sitting at a counter than a table is better. They do not turn off the lights during the movie which sucked as well.you can order from your seat using a QR code and they will deliver to your seat though we did not use this feature. Horrible experience today at Smitty's! Our 3:15pm showing of Barbie was cancelled due to a broken projector. Things happen and we can be flexible however the theater's response was abysmal!! The lobby was crowded with people not knowing where to go for refunds while what looked the manager walked around talking into her phone. Finally once we got clarification, only after tracking down a waiter coming out of the bathroom, did we learn we had to stand in a line for refunds only. No employee was standing in lobby giving directions and ultimately we ended up telling confused patrons what was happening. After standing in line for 30 minutes, we finally get our refund. However, the cashier gave me a refund for only $18. She intentionally did not give me back the convenience fee of $5.67. When I asked why she shorted me she got sheepish and mumbled that they really aren't supposed to refund that but she can. I said "yes of course I want my full refund" while thinking of all the people in front of me who may not have realized they were shorted their full purchase price. She took back my credit card and refunded $5 while asking if I actually wanted the change ($0.67). Of course! She gave me two quarters and the rest in pennies. The theater lobby was a mess with popcorn all over the ground, aimless employees and sheepish service. I will never return to Smitty's and do not recommend you give them your hard earned money! read more

The Smitty's Cinema chain has A LOT of really great things going on: + BOGO tickets for police, fire, EMS, and military on Mondays. + $5 movies on Tuesdays. + $5 movies on Fridays and Saturdays from 9pm onward. + FREE toddler friendly showings of films on Friday mornings. + FREE showings of culturally relevant things (like Patriots games on Sundays, or The Walking Dead season premiers/finales). + FREE popcorn when you Check-In on the Yelp app. + They host blood drives (and you get a free movie ticket for participating). + The staff, while usually on the younger side, I find is frequently very friendly and accommodating (and also very, very stealthy - how do they know the very second I put my menu up signifying I'm ready to order? Are there hidden cameras?). I know some people have complained, but you try being both a server AND a movie theater employee at the same time. They're doing an already difficult job in the dark while trying to be quiet and respectful of both you and everyone else's space. Segue... + You can be a little obnoxious with your friends (read: openly talking) when you're eating, drinking, watching the film and no one really cares. That being said, maybe don't come here for a movie you're serious about seeing - this is definitely not the place for that. This particular Smitty's, however, is not my favorite location. And here's why: - The lighting in the theater is off. Because of the locations of the enormous, neon green glowing Exit signs, half of the movie screen was backlit with an ominous space hue. It was very, very distracting. - Stupid complaint, I know, but the one available bathroom is REALLY very far away from the back theaters. - This location was dirty. Every chair we went to sit on was covered in food and grease; the tables were covered in food and grease; the menus were covered in food and grease. The bathrooms looked ignored. Smitty's in Topsham just seems a lot more well maintained. Here's the long and short of it: wanna come to a cheap movie with your friends and drink? Yes, you do. There's nothing remarkable or highbrow about this place, but sometimes all you need is a Big Gulp sized beer in a rolling chair next to friends who'll share their nachos with you. read more

This is one of the more peculiar reviews I've given considering the circumstances. Fantastically inconsiderate adults with children (always a stellar mix at a movie theatre) were incessantly talking, chastising, and snickering for the half hour my girlfriend and I were able to tolerate during the screening of The Black Widow. Management was completely considerate and understanding in our need for an "early check" for our food and even refunded our film tickets. Smitty's and local cinema everywhere will continue to get our support but for the love of god, if you think going to the cinema is a way to relax with your ill behaved children, stay home, grab some White Claws, a carton of Marb Lights and rent the film on Disney Premiere. Once you go to the movies and have a Guinness and Philly Cheese Steak .. how can you go to a "regular" movie theater. (What? Just popcorn and soda? ... uh, missing a beer here!) Good pub food. I take my granddaughter often and we have our specials. She always orders a Shirley Temple with extra cherries, and almost every time is treated very well with multiple cherries. I get a beer and a side or sandwich. It's good to arrive maybe 30-45 minutes before the movie starts to get your order in before the theater lights are dimmed! That's the ticket! My daughter has given my granddaughter a couple birthday parties with her friends here. When she was younger, she would dance in the aisles .. because there's room! The seats are so comfy! And tables are for 2-4 people and long bar seating for others. Good variety. read more

First, check in for a free small popcorn!!! I have no clue why I would ever see a movie anywhere other than Smitty's? The ticket prices are less then the other nearby theaters, the food is fine (it's pub food. That is it. I did have a great taco salad last time I was there), and the comfy office chair seating is awesome! As some other people have said, the theater can be a bit loud and the lights are never dimmed quite to my liking (I'm sure this has something to do with the servers who are running around with trays of food) but overall, it's a great place to see a movie. The rolling office chairs and little tables to sit at while you watch, the small theaters, and the great parking. The servers have always been pleasant, although not the speediest or the best about refilling drinks, I just love the concept of this place. You do have to be aware that many of the workers are younger and not experienced at customer service, but they are all very nice. This place is my first choice for movies! read more

Yay Smittys!! I've never had a bad experience here. I love that you can order food and drinks (cocktails yes!) I love the chairs you can roll around in. I love the free yelp popcorn for checking in!! I had a baileys mudslide milkshake on my last visit and it was soooo good! Made my movie watching experience so much better ;) Staff had always been friendly and it's never been overly busy and never had a crowded theater. The chairs and tables are spaced apart enough so you can't hear other people talking or chowing down on their food. I wish there was a Smitty's in Portland, but it's worth the drive out to Windham for a good experience. read more

I purposely waited until the show started to purchase a ticket because I'm immunocompromised and knew they lifted their mask and social distancing policy. I wanted to make sure I picked a seat with empty ones next to it. I did. Well when I got to the seat it in fact was not one with empty ones around it so I tried going back to concessions to choose the seat I visibly saw was distanced. The cashier had no problem with it and we had picked one we knew I saw was distanced in the theater. Then another employee came up to me and gave me a hard time and kept repeating to me that they don't socially distanced and clearly had an issue with me changing my seat. She continued to argue with me AFTER I picked a suitable seat to the point I just demanded a refund and left the theater in tears. read more

Usually when I go see a movie - I want silence punctuated by laughs, gasps and other acceptable crowd feedback. No weeping (I am looking at you 13 year old girl who insisted on sobbing uncontrollably as if necks of kittens were being snapped by her dead grandma in front of her during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2), no commentary or cell phones - has to be quiet. Smitty's - I make the exception for you. I know going in that I should not pick the movie I have been waiting years for or the quiet understated drama. Go in for the fun animated movie you want to see or the noisy action flick. I know up front what I am getting into and should never expect art-house film intellectual silence. You will be interrupted by super polite staff or have families of wiggly giggly kids near you. And it's okay. Because you get good seats in comfy chairs. You get to eat and drink and have a table. Food is good for what it is - American pub food at a movie theatre. I find this place is about expectations - if you expect it to be quiet - you are going to have a bad time. If you know what you are getting into - then you will be just fine. read more

Big comfy chairs and movies! I just love that smittys resurfaced in Windham. Sitting in Lincoln town car chairs and catching a movie is great! And having the option of ordering food, beer and drinks is super cool too. If you are going for food be prepared that everything taste like it's straight out of the Sysco bag being why I usually skip it but the beer selection is good. And they have strong cheap margaritas on Mondays! I absolutely loathe that they serve everything on styrofoam with plastic silverware (mama nature hates smittys) I hope someday they can switch that up! Smitty's is well worth a visit! Warning - skip it if you need a silent movie viewing experience. The theater setup has rows of bars and long tables with big comfy rolling office chairs. It's a fun atmosphere and so nice to be able to talk a little bit during the film. The movie is always loud enough so that you don't miss anything! This is a great night out with the family! We were able to catch a movie and have dinner one easy step! Having three little ones can make going to dinner and then catching a movie a challenge...especially getting there on time! We were able to sit at a table, order dinner, drinks and popcorn from the server and eat while the movie was playing. Very convenient and fun! For the grown ups, they have adult beverages available as well! We came on a very busy Saturday evening, and a birthday party was happening at the same time, we were lucky to snag a table large enough for us. I recommend getting their earlier to pick your table. The staff is very attentive and the facility is clean. The prices are also reasonable...we would have spent more to go out to dinner then hit the movie. We will definitely be back. read more

We come here whenever we decide to go see a movie. We love it. The only wish I have is that they add more comfortable seating. We typically only order drinks and popcorn. So we don't need table seats. I know a couple of their theaters have regular movie theater seats that you can recline, I just wish all of them did. The chairs they have you sit in are so uncomfortable. Other than that I love it. There aren't ever any huge lines, and the prices are pretty reasonable. read more
