The staff and dentists at Magic Smiles are amazing. We have been going for years because of how well they work with kids that have anxiety. They are incredibly patient and thoughtful. She's only 2 & she felt comfortable enough to let Dr. Jen do an exam & for Cassidy to polish. I'm sure it helped being able to watch paw patrol from their tv on the ceiling. Dr Jen is the owner of Magic Smiles now and she is fantastic. I took my 14 month old for a "peekaboo" checkup. I received great education on how to care for his teeth and he was able to meet Dr Jen. She looked at his teeth and did a quick fluoride treatment. The staff was all friendly and kind. We will be returning in 6 months for another check up! Great dentist geared towards kids. From the waiting room to the chair, their facilities and staff are focused at making kids feel comfortable. Taking much of the fear out of the dentist office sure helps. 30 minutes and part of Pirates of the Caribbean later (she watched while in the chair) my daughter was done.... Simply the most disorganized and unprofessional practice I have ever experienced, and, frankly, may warrant a complaint to the Department of Consumer Affairs, Dental Board of California regarding the questionable practices. Another dentist reviewed Dr Victoria Sullivan's proposed treatment plan and suggested it would be in our son's best interest to find another pediatric dentist. Erroneous duplicate procedures in the treatment plan, phasing of the treatment plan to maximize billing above and beyond the insurance coverage, and inaccurate notes in my oldest son's record that were actually about my younger son all led me to conclude this is not the place I wanted to have my son's treatment done. And this doesn't even speak to the unauthorized attempted insurance billings for things like $40 for "educating" my 13 year-old son how to brush his teeth. Are you serious?!?! Caveat Emptor...buyer beware. We elected to go to Pediatric Dental Specialists in EDH and had a much more professional experience. read more

******BEWARE******* ******BEWARE**** Unprofessional dentist work, the dentist that supposedly got her degree from Brazil did dental work on my little girl, she drilled to far into the teeth to the point were she had to put in a crown instead of a sample scheduled tooth filling and at the time all of this is happening no one told me until after the fact. Took the xrays to another dentist and they told me she did not need to drill that far, the tooth could have been saved!! A year ago I would have given this place 5 stars. My kids have been patients for almost 7 years. Here is what changed my mind. A couple years ago I had an acquaintance tell me that she pulled her kids for multiple misdiagnoses. I tried (and liked) Pediatric Dental Specialists, but since they weren't in my network, cleanings were quite costly and we returned to Magic Smiles. Fast forward a couple years after seed had been planted. I recently had regular cleanings performed on my kids. After which I was informed that my eldest daughter had two cavities. We would need to come back for separate visits as they were on opposite sides of her mouth and they couldn't numb both sides at once. Normally I would have said ok no problem, but after thinking that every time I bring them in for standard cleanings I am told I need to return for some additional treatment on at least one of them, I decided on a second opinion. I'm happy that my daughter does NOT have cavities, but saddened that this group has resorted to shady practices. Unfortunately, they have lost my business this time. Follow up: Second dentist stated that two teeth did not have cavities, just deep grooves. A third tooth was however possibly a problem, but they'd have to clean it out to be sure. Third opinion: Same as dentist #2. We now have a new dentist. read more

Never had a problem here until recently. They were referring my 2 daughters to an orthodontist and said it would be easier to get some some exrays done now during during our appiontment so that they can be forwarded to the ortho. They cost was over $500. When we went to the ortho, they were surprised that we had the exrays and that we were charged for them. It turns out orthodontists do these exrays for FREE as part of the consult...!!! Both orthos said the same thing and both stated that free exrays is a common practice and dentists know this!! We were ripped off $500. We won't be going back..... read more

My kids have been coming here for 7 years even though we live about 30 minutes away. When I was looking for a new dentist I called all around and the first thing I asked was "do you allow parents in the back".. We received a lot of hesitation at other offices but magic smiles said "oh absolutely!" We scheduled an appointment with Dr. Vickie and we have loved it ever since. The dental assistants are all very sweet and Dr. Vickie is amazing with children. She explains everything to the parents and kids and we always leave with another great experience. There are 2 other dentists in the practice but we always see Vickie except once and that dentist was just as sweet. They have a big screen television with kids movies playing all the time, as well as plenty of books and toys in the waiting room, a room with game consoles for the older kids (although we've never had to wait long enough to be able to use it), and while teeth are being cleaned the kids watch movies on a screen on the ceiling and listen through headphones. We're very happy here and we highly recommend it! read more

We've been to another dental group in the area, and because my young granddaughter is very anxious about dental work, they insisted they wouldn't fill any more cavities w/o general anesthesia, which was unacceptable to us. Dr. Vickie was patient and took all the time my granddaughter needed to get through it with a minimum of upset. The staff is GREAT - very kind and concerned. I doubt going to the dentist will ever be one of her favorite things to do, but Dr. Vickie has made it far less traumatic for her. read more

Brought my child here recently for OP work and could not have had a better experience. Dr Vickie , Dr A and the rest of her staff could not have been more professional or accommodating. we had a couple cosmetic fixes that involved injections and nitrous. Despite the discomfort the staff was able to handle the situation with the utmost care and skill that made the entire experience easy and comfortable. I've read other reviews on here and agree with almost all. Some are seemingly asinine and uneducated. I would recommend Magic Smiles to ANYONE AND EVERYONE. read more

My children love Magic Smiles. We drive about 45 minutes to get here, and there are plenty of pediatric dentists in our little town, however, it's worth the drive. My children see Dr. Vickie and the RDA, Michelle. Michelle is wonderful!!! My child is special needs and Michelle is soooo patient and caring and gentle with her. we had several play dates leading up to just a simple cleaning. My daughter went to Dr. Victoria Sullivan in 2005 at 17 months old and already needed a lot of dental work. She was born with weak enamel, which was starting to decay when the teeth erupted, and it got worse despite our home dental care. She went to her first dentist at 12 months old. Dr. Sullivan recommended four pulpectomies, which was the same recommendation as another dentist. We decided to go with Dr. Sullivan because of a referral and because she used an anesthesiologist in the office rather than at a hospital. I knew how much it would cost beforehand, so the $1500 bill isn't the issue (plus $1,000 extra for the anesthesia/anesthesiologist). My first issue was that the surgery/procedure took over four times longer than expected, so my daughter was under anesthesia for a long time, while I waited anxiously in the waiting room. My other issue is that one of the teeth/crowns became abscessed a few months later and had to be pulled, and I had the other three pulled about a year later because of more abscesses. Our new dentist said another option was long-term antibiotics, but I decided to have the teeth removed because I questioned the Dr. Sullivan's work and was concerned that the infection in my daughter's mouth could cause a lot of problems for her. When she had the first abscessed tooth removed by Dr. Sullivan, she and her assistant knew my daughter had severe anxiety (she was younger than 2 years old, so I think that's understandable), but they chose to hold her down for a long time while administering nitrous oxide (laughing gas). It did nothing for my daughter's anxiety, and holding her down like that made her anxiety even worse. They continued anyway. They ended up pulling the tooth while she was screaming, crying, and struggling--the whole experience was traumatizing for both of us. Another dentist told me that nitrous oxide should only be used for mild to moderate anxiety, not severe anxiety. Besides the awful dental work, Dr. Sullivan and her staff were very judgmental about my daughter's dental condition and about her behavior. We practiced attachment parenting, so I wore her in a sling, breastfed her on demand, co-slept, used cloth diapers, etc. Even from birth, she was very sensitive and didn't like to be held by our friends, extended family, and strangers. She is very independent and confident now, but at 17 months old, she was still highly sensitive and attached to me. The staff wanted to do the exams without me in the room; the dental assistant said I should put my daughter in daycare to help her behavior; they made numerous comments about her crying and nervousness. After everything that happened, I regret having the dental work done to my daughter. A year later, the teeth that were "fixed" by Dr. Sullivan had to be pulled under anesthesia again, by a different dentist. When I first noticed the decay/white lesions, I did a lot of research, and I thought I was doing the right thing by having her teeth fixed, but if I had it to do over, I would have probably just had her teeth pulled the first time around, rather than put my daughter through all that trauma. This experience was quite a few years ago, so I'm hoping Dr. Sullivan is more experienced and a better dentist now. I would definitely not recommend her based on our experience. read more

Horrendous experience earlier this week. I took my 4 year old to get 2 small cavities taken care off. Originally, Magic Smiles proposed 2 visits to restore the teeth (probably so that they could charge an extra Nitrous Oxide treatment). The cavities were small and close together on the same side thus I asked Dr. Vickie (Dr. Victoria Sullivan), or I guess I had the audacity to ask, whether it would be possible to repair both cavities in one visit... All I was looking for with my question was a professional opinion and explanation on why 2 separate visits were necessary. If I had received such a response explaining the necessity of 2 visits adequately and comprehensively, it would have been the end of it. Unfortunately I was treated to a highly attitude-laden response that was so rude and disrespectful leaving me somewhat astonished. Dr. Vickie proceeded to agree with repairing both cavities in one visit and literally stomped out of the room when my son was getting prepped. Unfortunately, things got even much worse from here: none of my kids had ever experienced any pain during any dental procedures in the past, probably due to the correct application of nitrous oxide. This time, however, Dr. Vickie stormed back in the room and gave my son 6 shots. With the first injection, he started screaming and crying so loudly that my older son (6 years old) came running in from the waiting room upfront to check on his brother. During the entire procedure, there was no eye-contact with me, no explanation or conversation with me, no reassurance, nothing. Instead, Dr. Vickie conversed with her assistant about her mother buying an expensive vacation, Halloween parties, happenings outside of the building, Halloween costumes, etc. Obviously, my son was not the center of their attention, and I - as a parent - witnessing this was not acknowledged one SINGLE time sitting in the corner of the room. After Dr. Vickie concluded her "work" she was about to stomp out of the room again, when I simply asked her why my son had been in so much pain from the first injection of pain medicine, as I had never experienced this type of reaction during similar procedures before. Again, I was "treated" to a highly arrogant and unprofessional response (and I am quoting here): "He was not screaming until the 3rd injection" (which is a lie apart from being extremely rude and compassionless towards your 4-year old patient). Her other response: "See, that's why we don't like to repair 2 cavities in one visit"...like my 4 year old son had it coming when I was just simply asking...After that "nugget" of a response she just left the room with no good-bye, nothing. I never write any reviews, but I am still in shock on how poorly we were treated. Dr. Vickie is probably the rudest, most arrogant and unprofessional medical "professional" I have ever encountered, and having been in the medical field for 20 years, that is saying something.... read more

Dr. Vickie is absolutely incredible. My daughter is extremely anxious and Dr. Vickie has made a huge difference in our life. She is funny, kind and calm and helps the kids get through any issues they may have. She is incredible. I can't thank my friend enough who referred me. Dr. Vickie makes it clear she is just not about filling cavities but instead consulting on prevention. Other dentists just wanted to put my daughter under and do tons of dental work but Dr. Vickie consulted me and gave me options of coming in more often and using a special swish. Tonight my son rode his bike full speed into the back of a truck and broke his two front teeth. I called Magic Smiles, was directed to their after hours emergency number and was able to talk to Dr Vickie directly. 15 minutes later, she and an assistant met us at her office to help my son and his bloody mess of a mouth. My boys have always enjoyed coming here for their dental check ups and tonight my son even let out a little "yay" when I told him we were going to see the dentist. Dr Vickie was really great with my son, as usual, and I'm so grateful to her for being there for us tonight. read more

All that glitters is not gold! Do not be fooled by the playland. Both of my children have had dental work done at Magic Smiles and both children have had complications requiring corrective procedures at another office. A relative had an infection directly following a cleaning and is now complaining of pain in a filling completed at Magic Smiles. I have never seen anyone leave this office without another treatment plan and despite the inviting space, the quality of dental work performed is highly suspect. I will never take my children back. Makes me sick to my stomach to think of the hell my little ones have been through. read more

Our teens went here as kids. Our adopted daughter goes here and our 2 foster kids. Hands down the best dentist for kids I have seen. They saw all 3 of my kids at 1 time. Crazy awesome dental practice. Toys, tv monitors on the ceiling above the chairs, bubbles. The kids may never know they have been to the dentist and will be so excited to go again. I have waited a long time to write this review, but I really feel like people should know: this woman is a fraud! I took my three sons in and she wanted to put my youngest under to do basic dental work. She also said my older kids had one cavity each. I did not like her personality at all and it didn't seem like she even liked kids, so I took all three boys to my family dentist. My dentist referred me elsewhere for my youngest (someone who would be willing to handle a child and not knock them out) and he took my two oldest on as patients. I made appointments to get their cavities filled and - guess what? They DID NOT have cavities. Not at all. He looked for them because he felt bad that another dentist lied to me - but he could find nothing. I cannot believe a PEDIATRIC dentist would put two children through getting cavities filled that DID NOT exist. She should be ashamed of herself. Why is she still in business?? read more
