    Squirt, now known as Brody.

We completed our Adoption Application with Mag Mutts Rescue. Within hours, we received confirmation that we were approved for the adoption process. We met with Michelle at her home, where she was holding the adoption fair. She had plenty of room for pups to larger breeds. It was a large group of people waiting to meet the different dogs. Carol was the foster mom and she met us there. Once we met Squirt, half Chihuahua, we knew it was a great match. The process of completing the forms was painless. Michelle gave us a welcome goodie bag and off we went with our little guy. All the foster moms were a great group of ladies. We will definitely return for future adoption. Thank you to Michelle and Carol!

This rescue has provided us with the best 3 dogs over the past 10 years. I'm so grateful to this rescue & its mission. They do everything they possibly can for these dogs & giving them the best home.

I lost my dog of 11 years suddenly to brain tumor. That happened right before COVID lock down. Have a companion for that long my place was empty and sad. I was looking to foster but most places were not looking for a new volunteers to add to organization and my friend recommended Mag Mutts (she adopted a pup from there) I applied. The process took some time but I has fostered before so had some understanding of the process. I was lucky enough to get to host 2 sets of pups that brighten my time on furlough and then had a grown up dog. Another beautiful soul that was eight me couple weeks. Then came this little crazy beagle mix that I was not planning to fall in love with (but I did) I didn't know if I can adopt her as there were few people that were interested and I waited almost a week to let them know but I filled up the application and the ladies decided that I will be a good fit so she became a permanent fixture in my home. I did read some of the negative reviews and first there is a process to every place and filling out the application is for everyone to get the proper documentation, not sure how that's a bad thing. I was the foster for the dog and still went through the process and I bet if it was recommended through the Foster parent. The rescue will look at that and second we do not pay for food or chew toys and bones so I'm not sure why someone with say that. Second if you adopt a dog that is a strong will and they become aggressive there is most likely a issue with teaching the dog boundaries and establishing how to be assertive. Asking a professional foe help with be the proper way and if you can not handle the dog probably working with the rescue to find a new place for it would be the best option. I think that we all need to take responsibility for how we see things and look at them as someone that dedicates their time every weekend and week to help animals from all over the country. Well not everyone is fitted to have a dog and there are plenty other rescues that could use those people. Good luck to them BTW I still foster for them and love every second of the love and joy when Zozo has a partner to play and the ache and joy of passing that doggy to the new owners. Let's rescue them all!

This is a rescue with HEART. Not a lot of money, fancy frills, or bells and whistles. Their goal is to save animals from euthanasia, and that's what they do. My female German Shepherd I adopted from them has brought total joy to our household! And our experience with them has been top notch. These are rescued animals, folks! They might have a few issues. As an adoptive parent, work with these issues and the rewards will be great! I fully stand behind this rescue, and I have been involved with many throughout my years. Thank you, Magnificent Mutts, and Linda, for the good work that you do!

Toast. Adopted at 3 months now 15 months.

We have adopted both of our dogs from here in the last year and a half. Toast and Lulu have been a perfect addition to our family. The people that work and volunteer with the rescue are kind and professional. The process is easy and worth it. Our family is complete with their help. Will continue to support and adopt from this rescue. Keep up the great work!

The cats have beautiful and clean cubbies and the dogs have large clean rooms. The staff are excellent at what they do! I was not expecting to be so wowed by an animal shelter. The puppy we adopted is doing so well. He's sweet and loving and very very smart! We feel we hit the jackpot. I highly recommend animal care league if you're looking to adopt a cat/kitten, dog/puppy, or rabbit. They accept animals from shelters from the surrounding states so when you adopt here you are saving an animal and giving it a loving forever home.

They were informed that I did not have the financial capacity in order to accommodate a dog that would need significant financial commitment beyond standard vet appointments and care. When I took him to the vet, they pointed out several lifelong health issues that were extremely severe and would need hundreds of dollars' worth of treatment monthly. When I looked his past medical history, it seems to have been the shelter was pursuing ongoing treatment of these issues but decided not to inform me although I was very up front with my limitations. Additionally, I only had him for 5 days at the vet clinic they had discovered that he had a severe double ear infection to the point he was bleeding, clearly not something that developed in just a few days. When I adopted him, they told me and my family he was a healthy dog that would need little medical assistance and that he was vet checked which was clearly a lie considering the state we brought him home in. Over the past 5 days we have bonded and he has gotten along with all our family members and even our other dog. I unfortunately, had to surrender him due to the lack of disclosure of information, when I talked to the operations manager the solution she gave me was that she was sorry and that it can be hard to diagnose things. But looking in his medical chart there has been a long-standing issue with this very same problem and was once on the same very expensive medicine that we were expected to put him on. I am hurt that there was little to no resolution other than taking a dog away from a loving family that just didn't have enough money to accommodate to his needs, but also little accountability of their actions. The general manager was largely dismissive, never offered any solutions to me and my visibly extremely upset family. Instead, we left the office in tears with an "I'm sorry that happened". And just to highlight to any prospective adopters from this shelter in their contract it says they are not liable for any misinformation they may give as it may be from third party sources, in other words it is okay for them to misinform and lie to your face. But to leave this review on a more positive note I fortunately was able to treat his double ear infection before surrendering him, he is so deserving of a loving home unfortunately I just cannot afford a dog with such severe medical issues.

WOW! I finally hit 500!…read more I wanted to make this review special--something that's close to my heart (just like my other 100 markers!). For those of you who know me, know that I love my pooch Ryno. He's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and yes, is treated like royalty. I have yet to meet a Cavalier that hasn't been sweet, awesome, and overall just a great catch! I have not adopted from this rescue, but know people who have, I've also met a few people affiliated with the rescue at various meet ups and dog shows throughout IL and even WI. :-) You couldn't ask for a bunch of better people! Here's a little about their mission (taken from their website): GCCR's mission is to help ensure the health and security of abused, abandoned, and otherwise endangered Cavalier King Charles Spaniels by rehabilitating and placing Cavaliers from shelters and similar situations, by assisting breeders and owners in finding new homes for their Cavaliers, and by providing to the public educational materials and consultation regarding Cavalier health and care. The growing popularity of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels has prompted increased breeding by unscrupulous breeders and puppy mills. This development suggests that owners' concerns about health as well as the number of Cavaliers in need will only grow. Placement of Cavaliers in new homes without appropriate, knowledgeable veterinary testing may result in unforeseen, serious heartaches for new owners. The GCCR as well as other dedicated Cavalier rescuers and owners are here to help.
