The service ran smoothly and things were organized well. They had ample tissues, had made a great video honoring the deceased and plenty of photos of her all around. They also had trained, professional staff on hand to help people during this ordeal. The professionalism and compassion of the people of Scott's funeral home made a tough couple of days easier.

The service scheduled to start at 1:00 started about 1:15 and that is because the priest started. He spoke and had some readings and then said we will have another song. Another song there had not been the first song that we heard. I was in back and faintly heard music. We all waited and became uncomfortable. The priest had a final prayer. Finally a representative of the funeral home came in and said that concludes the service and burial would follow. We waited outside and she came out and asked who the pallbearers were. They had not told the family they would need pallbearers. Granted most families would know this but this was the first funeral arranged by the family. The employees or owners showed no respect for the deceased and I feel for the family. All the services I have attended whether in the funeral home or church, there was always a funeral home representative close by making sure everything went smoothly.

I was appalled on the day of the funeral when I arrived at the church to discover that my loved one had on no make-up whatsoever and had unmanicured, and what appeared to be dirty, fingernails (with chipped nail polish). We had to cover her nails up with a handkerchief. The wig we provided was unnaturally placed on her head and un-styled, and her beautiful necklace was awkwardly placed on her body and sliding down. It was necessary for me to fix all these issues before family and friends arrived. It was as though they removed her from the nursing home, cleaned her body, did not cosmetically prep her, and hastily threw on the clothes and accessories we provided. My mother-in-law was a beautiful woman who ALWAYS took pride in her appearance, but what we saw when we arrived at the church made her appear to be someone who had neglected their appearance for years. I am grateful that I arrived early enough to fix this debacle. The last thing I'll say is that I checked for her obituary on their website the morning of the funeral - expecting it to be there the day before, but to my shock, it was not there, and I had to call the funeral home to ask them to please add it to their website. I had provided them with the wording of the obituary several days before (as requested). I would NEVER recommend this funeral home. I feel that they actually owe ME money for cosmetic services! While the cost was quite inexpensive, there is still an expectation to get what all funeral homes provide...for their loved ones to look presentable in the casket, and for the announcement of their death to be provided in a timely manner. We felt pressured to pay for the funeral further in advance than I expected, which we did, so perhaps that was a sign that they were lacking the resources to adequately perform the services required.

The visitation was held in a very nice size room and there were plenty of chairs and places to sit for everyone. The flowers were tastefully placed in various parts around the room. They appeared to go out of their way to do anything to assist the family. The church service as well as the grave side service was as nice as any one I've attended and seemed to go off without a hitch. There was a flag ceremony and the flag given to his wife. I noticed later, when we returned to the church hall, that Newcomer even gave her the wooden flag case. A very nice touch. I would highly recommend Newcomer to anyone.

I contacted Newcomer who we had contracted to do my fathers funeral 9 years ago. They did an amazing job for my fathers and we knew they would do the same this time for my mother. I asked for the exact same thing that we did for my father, they pulled the sheet from 9 years ago and followed it to a T. Now here is the amazing part that I did not anticipate, the difference in price from 9 years ago to the present was three hundred dollars, not thousand but hundred. I was shocked. This post is not meant to paint me in the light of some tight wad person who only cared about price, what I am trying to say is this place has a formula and it works. There is nothing cheap about how they handle their clients, the total was about six thousand eight hundred, but you would have thought we paid 20,000 thousand for the service they provided. My father looked so natural, it was amazing. Now my mother is in their hands and we are receiving the same quality service we received in the past. I will always recommend this place because of their professionalism and I can attest to the value you will receive compared to what other homes quoted me. Do not feel that you cannot afford a quality dignified funeral, this place can help.

Spawn B died. I…read morecouldn't touch him, see his face until a licensed funeral home claimed his body from the coroner. I wasn't allowed to "identify" him. I wasn't allowed to just stand beside him to verify with my own eyes that my child was dead. When they asked where, Sexy Beast just named what he thought to be a reputable organization with a long history in the community. The transfer went fine. The first issue was that I needed to touch my son. The provider kept telling me that they would decide whether I could touch him or what we could do based on which packages we selected and the condition of his body. I couldn't even get a quick few minutes to just lay eyes on my dead kid until the "viewing" which would be limited to 4 people and 15 minutes and subject to their schedule. There was no deference to the cultural impact of delaying ceremonies. I'm not Christian and that wasn't relevant to *anyone* in the room. In fact, my spiritual practices seemed offensive to the woman helping us. She seemed taken aback that I insisted that there would be physical contact whether she liked it or not. She was insistent that those practices would *have* to be condensed into that 15 minutes and that absolutely no accommodations would be made regarding the number of people in attendance (no religious or spiritual personnel or family) and that we were expected to complete our rituals under her watchful gaze. I paid for TWO viewings. One for the ceremony and ritual preparation for cremation and one for just before cremation. Am I upset that I had to pay? No. I had the money. No problem. I even offered to pay in advance. They insisted that I wait until the day of the "viewing" to do that or until I picked up his ashes. I don't care. My kid is dead and you won't let me see him until I agree to pay you. Take my money. GIVE ME MY SON. After the signing of the paperwork, we discovered that CSK intended to cremate my son in the filthy, bloody clothes that he died in. We asked for his belongings from the coroner and were given a ziplock bag with his wallet and some random pocket litter, but no clothes or boots. Spawn B had been just shuttled around from fridge to fridge like a marked down pork chop in filthy clothes and his boots still on. I know those boots were still on because it took two months in baking soda to get most of the smell out. I called CSK to request his clothes. That's an extra charge. Add it to the bill. We brought the clothes for his cremation with us, as instructed. Spawn B had a child. My Favorite Person. She was one of the four people scheduled to be at the second 15 minute viewing and witnessed cremation. Me. Spawn B's father (Sexy Beast), My Favorite Person, and My Favorite Person's Mom. Fifteen minutes. And they hovered there to make sure we took not a second longer. Remember that I mentioned that I tried to pay the bill when I signed the paperwork? Having them redress my son cost enough to place his account into the "prepay" category. This happened between the time that I offered to pay them and the witnessed cremation. Nobody ever mentioned that there was a particular invoice threshold that would require prepayment. As we were en route, the woman who insisted that I pay later called me to demand that I pay immediately. Did I pay it as we were navigating Spaghetti Junction? Of course. When I asked her what would have happened if I couldn't pay at that moment, she told me that they would have rescheduled the witnessed cremation. With My Favorite Person on her way to see her dead father for the last time, the whole thing would have been rescheduled if I could not have paid the full bill immediately despite *their* insistence that I pay the bill when I picked up my son's ashes. Good thing we had that covered or a child would have had to go through that whole day again. Just a little more arbitrary trauma for a little girl. When we arrived for the witnessed cremation, I was given a big red Biohazard trash bag with my son's reeking clothes and boots in them. They had just cut off my son's favorite hoodie and jeans from his decaying body. They don't actually undress the corpse of your loved one. They just snip off the clothes, toss them in a bag. He was not washed. This was horrific to me; to send him into the fire covered in gravel and blood. I handed them my son. They tossed him in a fridge like leftover spaghetti and forgot about him until the cremation. It felt very much like my son was the least important person to ever enter their care, as if he was just today's trash for the incinerator. My Favorite Person and her Mom quietly exited before the cremation. Sexy Beast and I stayed until Spawn B was shoved into the fire. We were escorted out of the viewing room at exactly the fifteenth minute. So, here's what I learned: Die first; choose any other provider. Especially if you would like your loved one treated with dignity.

(BTW if you call from an out of area phone, you're automatically transferred to that area code's Neptune society but they were nice & gave us the local number). We worked with Daisy. Initially, things were fine. I asked her to help coordinate a priest to pray over my dad. We also had an appointment with her to fill out paperwork on the same day. I was provided an address which I provided to the priest. The priest arrived 2 hours early and was upset that he was told he was at the wrong location. I called Daisy & she said my dad was at a different location. (Not sure why this wasn't explained when I coordinated the priest to pray over my dad & where the confusion came in.) She explained she wouldn't have time to make our appointment to sign paperwork bc she needed to take him to the other location where my father was. Ok. So we rescheduled our appointment to coincide with when we picked up my dad's remains. She DID get my dad's remains to us before we all left out of town which I do appreciate. I would have likely given 3- .5 to 4.0 stars at that point. BUT, then the death certificates arrived with the WRONG DOB and my brother got them addressed to someone else (the same death certs arrived addressed to Paul Williams which is not his name). We are at 6 weeks and still no death certificates that we can use to get my mom benefits or Anything switched to her name. Thankfully we got a notice that her prepaid services are being transferred to another company. I would NOT recommend.

It's the largest by area and number of burials. Before the era of large municipal parks, it was common for cities to promote a garden cemetery as a green oasis and recreation destination, and Louisville was no exception. Located in the northwest corner is Cave Hill National Cemetery, containing military graves. It was also on the National Register, added in 1998, where we discovered the grave of my partner's great-great-great-grandfather, Joshua Leonard. He was a Union soldier from New York who fought in the Civil War. Notable interred here were Colonel Harland Sanders (founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken) and Muhammad Ali (American professional boxer, activist, and Louisville's native son), to name a few. Upon arrival, we went straight to the main office located in the middle of the cemetery. Friendly staff managed to look up the information of the family member. However, the maps given were confusing and didn't correspond with those at the national cemetery. Stopped a staff member in their vehicle who recommended us to go to the main gate for assistance. With the help of the guard, we managed to locate his grave. Nice hidden gem for those visiting Louisville off the beaten path, which we can recommend.
