My mother-in-law received services from Spring Valley Funeral home, and I was extremely disappointed. I was appalled on the day of the funeral when I arrived at the church to discover that my loved one had on no make-up whatsoever and had unmanicured, and what appeared to be dirty, fingernails (with chipped nail polish). We had to cover her nails up with a handkerchief. The wig we provided was unnaturally placed on her head and un-styled, and her beautiful necklace was awkwardly placed on her body and sliding down. It was necessary for me to fix all these issues before family and friends arrived. It was as though they removed her from the nursing home, cleaned her body, did not cosmetically prep her, and hastily threw on the clothes and accessories we provided. My mother-in-law was a beautiful woman who ALWAYS took pride in her appearance, but what we saw when we arrived at the church made her appear to be someone who had neglected their appearance for years. I am grateful that I arrived early enough to fix this debacle. The last thing I'll say is that I checked for her obituary on their website the morning of the funeral - expecting it to be there the day before, but to my shock, it was not there, and I had to call the funeral home to ask them to please add it to their website. I had provided them with the wording of the obituary several days before (as requested). I would NEVER recommend this funeral home. I feel that they actually owe ME money for cosmetic services! While the cost was quite inexpensive, there is still an expectation to get what all funeral homes provide...for their loved ones to look presentable in the casket, and for the announcement of their death to be provided in a timely manner. We felt pressured to pay for the funeral further in advance than I expected, which we did, so perhaps that was a sign that they were lacking the resources to adequately perform the services required. read more

A competent, but seemingly run down funeral home. Perhaps this is a cheaper place to hold a service. I'm honestly not sure. But the staff were not as helpful as at other places I've visited, nor did the facility seem as well kept. read more

After my sister passed her body was picked up by this funeral home. In transacting the business there was no compassion from them. Strictly about the money. They was suppose to deliver the urn, but never did in time for the memorial service. A week later I had to call to inquire about the urn. I would not recommend anyone sending their loved ones to this mortuary. read more

Andy Hodges was my father and he died 3/18/2018. Spring Valley Funeral Home & cremation is where my father body was disrespect. Anthony and his staff of incompetent's staff that I trusted to take care of my father body did just he the opposite. These people have cause myself and my family great pain and suffering while stealing a large sum of death benefits from my brother and I. We where charged for a service that my family never received, wish was for my dad to ha a ve cremation. This family are a bunch of thieves , and liars they pray of grieving families and steal money in the process. I was not able to be in Kentucky at the time of my father passing, and the money that was left could had helped me a great deal in which this scumbags knew my situation. These are not good people what they did to our family I'm sure they have done to other. My step Mother went over to Spring Valley Nemours times to this so called Funeral home it nothing more then a motel for the dead, they do not treat your loved ones with any respect they sure don't care for the living. Anthony and Lynn threaten to send my father back to the Louisville morgue if they didn't get the death benefit's , which turns out they had the check and was sitting on our money. When they finally sent me my money in a personal check, my bank gave me $200.00 of the money and I used by card on some things and 2 days later it all bounce for insufficient funds on their part they didn't have the 2372.25 they sent me , while my bother check in the same amount did not bounce. I have hundreds of dollar in late fees overdrafts charges dealing with this it was horrible, while trying to deal with the fact that my father was gone, and I wasn't able to come to Louisville to personal handle this matter. I have tons of paperwork , and text dealing with these people over the course of 7 months my father died in March this was unaccepted, trauma full life changing experience for me. The Louisville morgue put me in contact with these vultures, I wouldn't be surprise if they mortician in Louisville get a kick back for each family he sends to these horrible family, I truly wonder how this family sleeps at night. Upon arriving here I looked at yelp and was shocked at the negative reviews. We were wanting to pay ahead for a loved one's cremation, and I almost turned around and left. I am glad I didn't, though. While I can't speak to what will happen after a death, I can say that they were very kind & compassionate to our situation. Not at any point in time did they attempt to "sell" us anything, nor did they speak any differently when they found out how little my loved one actually wanted...cremation only. No service, nothing else at all. He is a veteran who doesn't even want a flag. I was surprised and expected more of a "pushy" tactic, since like any business, they have to make money to survive. They were patient, kind & understanding in every sense of the word. I hope the services we paid for aren't needed anytime soon, but when they are, I will return and update my review at that time. I didn't give a 5-star rating because obviously our experience was limited given our interaction. However, if when we need to utilize them, they still have the same mindset and heart in what they showed us during the preplanning phase, we absolutely will give them 5 stars. read more

I would like to warn any future customers to beware of Anthony Oxendine and his company of offering to buy your loved one's property of any kind! and to any former customers of Anthony Oxendine and un-professional business practices to speak up, I'm sure there are others out there that have experienced what I'm about to share. The day after my sweet mama past, my siblings and I were sitting in the kitchen of Spring Valley Funeral Home, with the Director Lynn (not sure of his last name) he mentioned, he would be interested in buying my mom's house via a Sales Contract. He explains, the way it worked: he would put so much down. In this case $4,000 and monthly payments of $800.00 and the house would be paid off in about 3 years. I live in California and was struggling on what to do with the house and living far away. I finally agreed to meet Anthony and his attorney Steven Lohmeyer from New Albany. I was in a grief-stricken state and I agreed to the contract and in hindsight, I wish I had visited an attorney first. I take full responsibility for not doing this. The contract Anthony and his attorney drafted up; said he would not pay any interest on the payments. Either it was lightly reviewed, and I missed the true understanding of what was being said in the contract, sadly I agreed to the contract. I asked later, how can his loan offer possibly pay off the loan, when I'm paying the interest? The fact that him and his attorney feel good about this contract and knowing what they are going to be putting someone through down the road, all I can say is, "Shame on Them." This time last year l our family was planning a funeral for my mother-in-law who passed away unexpectedly fast forward a year later and I was planning my husband of 18 years unexpected funeral. With our youngest only being 4 months old money was tight but not once did I felt like I wasn't honoring him in his final wishes. Not once did they pressure or persuade into a larger package. The communication between us was perfect, even called to check on our children ( ages 11, 4, 4 months old) and myself. The flower arrangements that they had made for my husband was beautiful, as well as the programs captured memories that I cherish. The day came for my husband's service and they did not let me down at all. They made sure family and friends of ours felt welcomed and made us feel like family during this difficult time for our family. As a service is coming to an end they made sure that myself and our girls had the chance to tell him see you later and I love you. At that time I was pulled aside and told that I have been gifted a forever urn for my husband and our girls has something to cherish years to come. I will be forever grateful for the compassion that they showed us, not just with my husband's funeral but with my mother-in-laws also. ​Loosing a loved one is never easy but they definitely made it a little easier and for that I will be forever grateful. This New Albany Spring Valley Funeral Home is probably the absolute worst funeral home in the Kentuckiana area. I don't even know where to start, between how they prep and handle the family of the deceased is rude and unpleasant. The guy running it, is a crook to the family's and the flower shops that deliver to his place of business. I'd recommend having your loved ones services be taken care of anyplace other than here. read more

Worst funeral home ever. They are cheap for a reason. Please do your research. My mother in law sadly passed unexpectedly on June 12th 2020. My husband & I were beside ourselves. We didn't know which funeral home to use. As we had never had to deal with making arrangements directly. A friend who had her dogs cremated at Spring Valley suggested them. So we made arrangements to have her transported there from a hospital in Louisville, KY. Not researching on the net like I normally do. We were in shambles. So we made an appointment immediately. With Mike the following work day. My Mother in laws wishes were to be cremated. So that's all we wanted from them was there cremation services, no Memorial service because of Covid-19. Well when we told Mike exactly what we wanted, he tried his best to talk us into having a service for her there, My husband had to get stern and said no for the 3rd time. Mike said that they should have her back in 3-5 days. Well we didn't get her back for 12 days! (That was right after I called one day checking on her remains and was told they didn't have her yet, then later the same day they called back and she was there??) We gave Mike all of the correct info, except for her SS#, we weren't thinking clearly and didn't take it with us. We called as soon as we got back to her house- 15 minutes later and gave them the SS# and her life insurance policy #. Mike said since she passed in KY it would take 4-6 weeks to get her death certificates back. WELL when we got them back 3 weeks later they had the WRONG SS# on them! We were very upset. I called Spring Valley immediately and spoke with Darlene. She acted like it wasn't a big deal at all and said just bring them back in and we will have to send them back to KY and it will take another two weeks. I took them back and met with Anthony, after complaining about Mike and how frustrating this has been. He actually laughed at me! I couldn't help myself and said some unkind words to him. He said it will be okay and just walked away. So it is 8/8/2020 and we still don't have the corrected death certificates back. I do realize we are in Covid-19 outbreak. So it is taking longer to process death certificates. But this is crazy. I would not take my animals to them. read more

i normally would recommend Spring Valley Funeral Home however my mom passed away in April, it was a mess the whole way through, I will state Anthony and his wife were was exceptional, however the director over her funeral was horrible. first the funeral was supposed to been live streamed, it wasnt; second the music we chose and recorded FOR THEM, when played sounded as if it was coming from across town, and they just kept going like it didnt matter, third as soon as the music stopped the director in exact words "that concludes the service, I need you all to clear the service area now" and then proceed to gather the flowers for the trash bc 'he didnt know if we wanted them'. i did complain and NOTHING was done but Im sorry, yes i know it cant be undone or redone but really thats not how Id hoped to remember my moms sweet service, now mind you i also bout almost 2k of product to put her ashes in as well and that all was fine. Now fast forward 3 1/2 months, my moms sister passed away and her service was tonight, the music sounded okay( when it played) they used a phone to stream it and it kept buffering every few sentences for sometime 30-45 seconds, so bad the preacher made jokes in between about it. i used to think Spring Valley Funeral Home was the go to for that horrible time of need but in my good faith I couldnt ever recommend them to anyone else. i have horrible nightmares still of my moms service and seriously have thought about seeing a therapist because with her sudden passing and the bad memories it has taken its toll on me. read more

We wanted to do a somewhat unusual approach and Anthony didn't blink ... he and his team did everything we asked and the end result was a wonderful, beautiful event. Unfortunately, I have experienced quite a few losses of loved ones and dealt with several funeral homes, and I'd have to say Spring Valley Funeral & Cremation was the WORST! For a funeral home that says they "are committed to providing quality, compassionate care to every family" I would have expected more. Not one person I spoke with ever offered me condolences on the loss of my father. I mainly dealt with Ariel, who was condescending towards me from the start. I was the next of kin and should have been in charge of making arrangements and she allowed others to do so in my place. When it came time for the funeral home's payment, she sent me a document that didn't say how much I owed. I asked for the cost to be put on the paper and for the insurance information to verify my father's policy was up to date. She didn't want to give me this information, without first asking the people she allowed to make the arrangements...mind you these people are not legally related to my father and I was the sole one responsible for payment to the funeral home. After I clarified the relationship between all the individuals involved, she gave me a half-hearted apology about the situation. Losing a loved one is hard, dealing with a funeral home shouldn't have to be. Go elsewhere if you want to be treated with compassion! read more
