I am fortunate to have this center in my neighborhood. I have bought many things over the years. I received a text recently alerting me to a unbelievable sale they were having on their citrus trees. I bought a Meyer lemon tree from MGC about 10 years ago (previous owner) and it did really well bearing fruit each year. I was anticipating citrus trees on sale that maybe had seen their day but no was I pleasantly surprised. The citrus trees were all in healthy condition and all of them were bearing fruit. I quickly bought one. The staff is very nice and will help you with your purchase to your car. The Center has healthy plants, flowers, trees, shrubs and garden products. They also have a gift store next door so if you need a gift for yourself, hostess gift or greeting cards they have a good selection. read more

We had a great first time experience here. They were all very nice and willing to help. Shout out to Blake for taking the time to answer questions about which trees we should consider for our sunny deck, Sandra for drilling holes in our newly purchased large pots and Ben for a delightful and easy delivery of the 2 trees we bought. Great garden center with a wide selection of indoor and outdoor plants. I was pleasantly surprised by their selection of trees with many beautiful mature plants. All their plants looked healthy (unlike at big box stores where plants look like they're one day away from death). I also appreciated signage throughout the store that provides valuable info about the plants, which I think makes this store great for beginner and advanced gardeners alike. They also have a gift shop with cards and other things, so if you are looking for a last minute gift idea, this would be a one-stop shop. read more

This is my local garden center, and I am so grateful that we have one in Magnolia! The selection is really varied, especially for a small center, and the plants are healthy and have done really well in my garden. I've found the service a bit hit and miss. Sometimes, the staff are incredibly friendly and thoughtful and go out of their way to help. My interactions with the owner has been wonderful. On the other hand, occasionally staff are a bit cold and not as helpful as I'd experienced other times. Overall, though, I like coming here and get almost all of my plants here! read more

Today my wife and I stopped in to inquire about why two small garden plants just planted died. Both men one who was young and the "plant" expert responded "not enough water". My wife who has been gardening for over 25 years knows how to plant and water, responded "no I ensure they had plenty of water". Instead of replacing the two inexpensive garden plants these two men proceed to insist it was a watering problem insulting my wife's gardening abilities. Should carry more items made in the U.S. Should carry more items from local designers. No beeswax candles. Note: Make sure you have money to burn. If a $30 candle makes you wince this may not be the shop for you. But if you like $300 purses, $50 handmade jewelry, and $9 bars of soap you will have a field day here. Plan on spending at least a good 30+ minutes here. The gift shop has just about everything you could dream of for a wonderful house warming gift. Decorative wine bottle stoppers, luxe purses, candles, unique serving sets, and nice bodycare items. There is also a section for stationary, cards, and gift wrap. Even items for baby. Customer service was always friendly, never pushy, and ready to answer questions. I like that it isn't filled with cheesy items. I would probably describe it as classy-whimsical. I liked how some of the items they carried were local or from small businesses. I like the unique handmade jewelry but I didn't like how some of the jewelry had plastic beads. That's kinda lame. I think they should carry a lot more items that are made in the U.S. for the price you pay. Candles are very expensive here but they are not beeswax, although they did carry some soy candles. But if you're going to charge THAT MUCH for a candle, it had better be 100% beeswax. I could get TWICE the number of beeswax candles at Goods for the Planet (525 Dexter Ave. N) for that price. I can't comment on the variety of the plants, flowers and garden supplies, but I did have a nice experience inside the store when I visited a few weeks ago to find a birthday gift for a friend. The store is filled with unique cutesy gifts ranging from Vera Bradley bags to organic spa bath salts. There is a whole range of cards and artsy trinquits that would be perfect as a nice birthday gift, thank you, housing warming surprise, or something nice for your Mom. The lady working at the counter was very pleasant and even wrapped my friend's birthday gift for me. I will think of this place in the future. read more

I can't wait each spring to stock up on my annuals and perennials and I always go to Magnolia Garden Center. I've also purchased roses and other shrubs. I am on a budget and realize flowers and plants can be found cheaper at the big box stores, however, the quality at Magnolia's nursery make the higher cost actually more cost effective. This is a classic "you get what you pay for". The individuals who own and work the nursery are incredibly knowledgeable and I love that I can take a leaf with or plant to them to help diagnose and treat a problem. I find them friendly, helpful and actually go year round. We even buy our christmas tree from them each year because they always have a beautiful 3 footer for our small house. My garden gets rave reviews but I have to give most of the credit to Magnolia Nursery for their help and beautiful, quality, healthy plants. read more

Magnolia Garden Center is our neighborhood nursery. Their staff is consistently friendly, knowledgable and happy to help. The selection and quality of items is fantastic and surprising given the size of the nursery. Since it's in Magnolia and super convenient to all that live here I expected the prices to be inflated, however it is quite the opposite. The prices are great. For example, I recently purchased a few large star jasmines. They were $15 less per plant at Magnolia Garden Center as compared to another nursery in Seattle and to top it off they were larger! Very healthy selection, and because it is neighborhood based, a limited variety of plants. As of today, they did not have what I asked for yet. I asked, describing "this tall now, lungwort, variegated . . . " the elder employee cut me off and turned to another customer who was bent over the trillium bulbs, she was intent on studying them. "Wait a sec," he said to me. "Can I help you?" he asked her. "No, I have a wagon out front, but I'm not ready to check out." "Let me know when you are ready," he said, then turned to me. "Pulmonaria?" he gave me a very condescending look. "there are many varieties, not just variegated. I don't think we have them in yet, but I'll look." I did not expect that tone of voice from an employee, so I walked out. I was on the other side of the chain link when he saw me and said "We don't." "Thanks," I said, and kept walking. read more

I LOVE this place. A friend and I were very intentional about our day - find plants for our apartments. We went to a few different plant stores across the city. We purchased a few from the other places before we landed upon Magnolia Garden Center. Cindy was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable! She inquired about our spaces and our needs. Magnolia is the neighborhood that "has one of everything" and this is their gardening store. I've been twice for my summer gardening projects and on both times my experience was pretty much as expected. The people who work their tend to be on the helpful side. As for the rest, like most things in Magnolia, it's not necessarily the largest selection or by any means the cheapest but it serves it's purpose and gets the job done while keeping me from having to cross any bridges. -1 star for the exceptionally high prices -1 star for the limited selection of vegetables/herbs during the spring planting months. +1 star for being in the neighborhood and having most of what I needed read more

I recently moved to Magnolia and was in need of some new pots and soil for my new plants. I am new to this to re-potting plants and barely know the basics! I went in and Sandra asked if I needed any help. I explained my situation and showed her my plants on my phone. She was so patient with me and took the time to show me different things and teach me about how to take care of my new plants. It's so nice to be able to go into a place where you are uncomfortable and don't know what you're doing and be able to come out with some confidence because of one of the employees guidance. I love this place. As a rabid gardener (and former Master Gardener.) But I have to admit that I come here for the gift shop, not the nursery. The nursery does have a small seasonal collection of plants. I usually buy my plants elsewhere. But love the gift shop. It's well worth the side trip to Magnolia. I've lived in Magnolia most of my life inbetween living overseas and traveling the world for work and pleasure. That being said, the female portion of the new partnership who took over MGC has to be one of the rudest most mean people I have yet to meet on the globe (I'm talking '"Your baby looks ugly" and "Take it out to the car yourself you idiot. Can't you see I'm busy!" type of mean here). It's as though she doesn't need anyone's business and is out to make the customers self-esteem reach all time lows. It's not only expensive, I'm sure you can do without the insults and outlandish demeaning behavoir. Many life-long locals are now boycotting the store as a result. My friends and neighbors all seem to have had similar unfortunate experiences. read more

I'm going to enjoy my decorative hops they tried to sell me for $16....But I must admit when I saw the $12.99 FRED MEYER price tag on the label, I spoke up. I was offered the plant for $14.99 (gasp!). I paid, took my plant home and will happily drive out of my way next time I need to buy anything for my garden. I'm so glad this little store exists. MGC makes me happy. The staff really knows their plants and seem to love what they do. Their plant selection is great, even in such a small space. Their plants are well-tended and not so heavily fertilized that they're going to struggle with withdrawal once I get them home. And the houseplant selection is fantastic too. Their prices have to be higher than big-box stores in order to stay a viable, independent business in the neighborhood they're in; and the good news is that when I shop there, I'm helping support local business and local jobs. Their selection is a bit small (certainly in comparison with Swanson's), but the plants I have bought here thrive, despite my limited gardening skills. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. This is my favorite shop in the village. They have a great selection of plants and gardening supplies. Every plant I have purchased here has been healthy and thrive for a long time. The gift shop is adorable and it is definitely a gift shop--a great place to buy a little something for someone but not necessarily for yourself. Again, fantastic selection of cards, gifts, wrapping supplies, etc. They are pricey but their plants are of high quality and their gift items are unique so I still shop here pretty often. My wife and I bought several bushes at MGC last year and they ended up not surviving. We went back and spoke with several friendly people (I've never had bad customer service there, contrary to some of the other reviews) and finally we were introduced to the owner Chuck. Chuck was extremely kind and helpful. He talked us through quite a few replacement options and even said he'd offer us a credit. When I went to pay, he comped me 100% for the plants that didn't survive from the year before! It was above and beyond service, and definitely made us customers for life. I stopped by to get some tomato plants, pots and soil for my balcony garden this summer and had a great experience! The woman who helped me turned out to be the owner, and she was delightful and very knowledgeable about how best to plant and care for the plants (it was my first time planting anything and needed all the help I could get!) It was a much better experience than the big box stores I had gone to previously - the plants were beautiful, the people were great. I also swung into their gift shop and was pleasantly surprised - really cute cards and giftable items. I bought some Butter nail polish for myself and for some gifts for some girlfriends. I also feel good about supporting a small local business, and will definitely be back. read more

Saturday was my first visit to Magnolia Garden Center and I will definitely return. The gift shop was wonderful; higher end inventory and reasonable prices. The lady that greeted me was great; very friendly and helpful. The nursery area is much larger than I thought as they have a whole area that is not visible from the road. The plant selection was very good; reasonable prices, very healthy plants, nice variety and a few really unique plants. The employees were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They have a good selection of your basic tools plus some really neat garden accessories inside. Both the gift shop and nursery are extremely clean. I was pleasantly surprised to learn they deliver locally. I bought a giant hanging basket that would have been nearly impossible for me to get home and hang without damaging it. The gentleman that delivered it was great; he got the basket to my house and hung it up with absolutely no damage. I wish it were possible to give more than five stars; these guys really deserve it. read more

I am new to edible gardening, and I showed up to the garden center not having the first clue about what I could plant or how to do it. I wanted to make sure that what I would plant would actually grow something because I have a tendency to kill plants by over-watering them, over-fertilizing them, etc. I'm sure that there are other garden centers that may be less expensive, but the employees here are very knowledgeable. I have found that I put a lot of plants into my cart only to put them back because the employees tell me there is no reason to spend that much on a starter plant when I can spend $1.38 on a seed packet and end up with more food. They never try to push for me to buy extra. They could easily try and sway me to buy pricier items because I am a novice, but they don't. Because of this, I frequent the garden center often, and they have my repeat business. read more

Magnolia Garden Center is one of the few locations in Seattle that will rent plants for events. Basically they rent plants from their current stock. They also deliver and setup the plants to help ensure that the plants are not damaged. I used them to rent plants for my wedding (both church service and reception at two different locations). Their selection is not huge but they do have a nice variety of plants to choose from. They were wonderful to work with (very low maintenance) and very professional in their services supplied. I would highly recommend them if you are looking for plant rental! read more

Nestled in the middle of Magnolia is the Garden Center. It is not a very big space and the plants come & go, but it is colorful and the staff is very friendly. Don't look for service with a smile here. I got a coupon for moving into the neighborhood and decided to take a look. I didn't expect a huge selection because it was a smaller nursery, but they seriously don't have much and what they do have is WAY OVERPRICED! It's more expensive than Swansons! I was asked "Do you need help with something" every 2 minutes. It felt more like they were keeping an eye on me than trying to help me. Seriously, leave me alone to browse, what am I going to do... pocket a plant?! Older white haired lady came over to "help" me. Even with me trying to walk away from her she followed me. She kept suggesting what plants I should buy. I wanted 2 geranium plants and she ended stuffing half a dozen other plants near my selection including some black mondo grass which I told her I had already. Then she gave me a sour face and put the mondo grass down. She never smiled and wasn't pleasant. I will never be going back. For better prices I'll be going to the Ballard/Fremont Fred Meyer and for better plants I'm going to Swansons. read more

I have lived in Magnolia for a number of years and visited the Garden Center once in a while, usually in a last minute attempt to find a "living" gift. I thought of the Garden Center as a slightly higher priced nursery for people who didn't want to get in their cars to drive to any of a number of larger, more well-known places. Little did I know! This year I needed everything (trees, shrubs, annuals, etc.) for a new landscaping project for my recently constructed home. While hunting all over the region for trees (including way out in the countryside) I decided to stop for a minute at the Garden Center. To my surprise I immediately found 3 substantial sized trees that I couldn't live without, and I found the Garden Center's design consultant. An experienced landscaper, she helped us to crystallize and focus our thoughts on what we were really looking for, and we bought 5 trees and multiple shrubs on the spot! We took advantage of the Garden Center's low priced "initial consultation" fee and we went from there. Our design consultant assisted us tirelessly, allowing me to wander through the Garden Center many times and asking hundreds of questions. Frankly, I was astonished to have so much guidance and unending assistance from any garden center. We bought a considerable number of items from the Garden Center (in addition to our initial purchase) because we found their large plant prices to be competitive and the quality of the plants high. The result of our association with the Garden Center was a cutting edge landscape that we and our neighbors all love. Many people have stopped to ask where we bought our plants from and who helped us. We always tell them it was the "little neighborhood garden center" and in particular, our special find, Martha. read more
