Villaggio's is wonderful. My friend and I shared rollatini roses as an appetizer. They graciously added a fourth one so we could split evenly. The bechamel on these was fantastic. I had the ravioli of the day. 2 huge chicken and herb filled ravioli in a spicy marinara sauce. Amazing. Their pasta is an Al dente treat! I finished with a silky chocolate mousse. Great location in Pinehurst Village where you can walk to everything. However, we were not given the room I had reserved and given a lesser room instead. Much smaller, didn't have a fireplace, didn't have a view of the charming village and bathroom was also much smaller (see tiny). When I spoke with the person upon arrival and asked she called the GM (owners wife) who explained a guest who had stayed the night before decided to extend their stay another night... Didn't call or email us to see if another room was acceptable. Didn't apologize and definitely didn't tell the other guest they'd love to have them stay but they'd have to change rooms... Not sure where they learned the hospitality industry but that doesn't cut it. I reserved a specific room. Paid required deposit for said room in advance and then you gave the room to someone else. Our first experience with staying at this Inn and eating at the Vilaggio Restaurant both evenings we were there was phenomenal. You can tell the management and owners are attentive to detail as their staff was there in greeting us and opening the door when we checked into our room. Of course this is a self service check in but since we were arriving later in the day, they made sure we were welcomed as they were also just beginning their dinner service. After checking in and settling in our room we went to dine in the Villagio that features northern Italian inspired dishes. The waitress quickly seated us and gave us the featured specials of the day. We had the Rosette al Forno antipasti, which we would recommend highly to start. The roasted beet salad was split between my wife and myself and was certainly one that we truly enjoyed... a great choice even if you're are not a fan of beets. The beets along with the pecans are sweet enough to balance out the vinaigrette and the Gorgonzola cheese. I chose the Frutti de Mare and was not disappointed. It was seasoned just right to enhance the flavors of the seafood - clams, mussels, calamari and shrimp - and the linguini was cooked al dente. My wife had the braised short rib with risotto and it too was delicious. For the finishing touch we had the Panna Cotta and the Mousse al Cioccolato... both nicely done and not too sweet. All in all a perfect evening after a long trip! The staff will take care of you. We even noticed an elderly couple who appeared to have been celebrating an anniversary and the wait staff helped and assisted them with the flowers that were delivered to the restaurant ahead of time and brought the arrangement to their car. Really disappointing. Emailed after I booked in case they had a cancellation for a larger room and didn't get a response. When we showed up for our reservation we found a basket with envelopes for our keys. So perhaps COVID safety but not personal at all and the inn is connected to the restaurant so the hostess was helping us. This is less personal than a hotel chain. This is not a bed and breakfast experience. The space needs improvement. Our bathroom door kept getting stuck, there are holes in the walls, not the charming experience I was hoping for. And loud because of the restaurant and downtown nonsense. I would recommend staying somewhere else. read more

This is a fine place to stay, so long as you're self-sufficient and don't need full resort amenities. The location is perfect, as you can walk to the main Pinehurst resort building in five minutes and to any of the bars and restaurants in the village in about that long. The Inn is very attractive from the outside and my room was clean and charming. (I had the Page Room, with a queen bed, fireplace, bay window, and view of the village street.) The bed was comfortable, with an after-market pillow top and decent sheets. It also had a light quilt on it, for that historic charm. The bathroom was fairly large, though with only a pedestal sink. The tub situation is a clawfoot with a shower curtain on a ring around it and confusing faucets. The water didn't seem to get much more than lukewarm, but it did the trick for one night. The floor was very, very squeaky, which I suppose is to be expected in a building from 1895, but I'm glad there was a parlor and not a guestroom below me. The closet is fairly spacious considering the age of the building and there's a modern TV. The temperature control was outside the room in the hallway. Breakfast is included, but it's a wan affair with some scrambled eggs and bacon in small warmers, cereal (but I didn't see the milk), and granola bars. I arrived at 11:30am and was able to check right in, which was nice since check-in is posted as 4pm. After that, I didn't see any of the management, even at the breakfast. Had I really needed something, I'm sure I could have found someone, but it wasn't obvious. Stopped by for a beer in the attached pub; it's fine, but not as atmospheric and fun as the Drum & Quill down the street. All in all, if the bed-and-breakfast, do-it-yourself route is the type of experience you're looking for, the Magnolia does it nicely if you can get the right rate. read more

Walking up the stairs when we first arrived I noticed that the place needs work. Holes in the outdoor porch ceiling caught my eye along with places that need paint. Our room is comfortable and attractive enough, but it also needs work. The bathroom sink has separate faucets for hot and cold water, and both were loose - each whole faucet would move around when we tried to use them. I fixed them myself in about two minutes just by tightening the mounting bolts under the sink. A simple!e repair that should have been done before we arrived. Our room, the Olmsted, was nicely appointed, but not planned well. It has a queen sized bed, and one side is about 12 inches from the wall. That wall also has two light fixtures on it that are just about the height of my head. Getting out of bed required me to navigate a very narrow space while avoiding the lamps. Difficult at best. This hotel is billed as a bed & breakfast. Breakfast is a bit disappointing. Choices are supermarket cereals, granola bars, toast and muffins. There is a sign that tells guests to find milk and juice in the fridge located in the pantry, but they don't say where the pantry is located. After searching for about 10 minutes we finally found an employee who showed us where to find the fridge - 2 rooms away, hidden in the back. When we sat down for our breakfast by the window overlooking the front yard I noticed that the window has a small hole in the middle and long cracks through it. That sure takes away from the charm. The Dawghouse: Great place to catch up with friends and have a few drinks. Music was a little loud and had to really shout to talk with friends. Good live music selection though. Food was about par with average bar food but the drinks were pretty cheap and delicious! Located in downtown Pinehurst and parking is very easy to find, even on a Saturday night! I would definitely recommend this place to others to try out! read more

Beautiful home with very nice rooms. Very nice owner who checked in on us to see if we needed anything. Nice breakfast, continental with muffins, fruit and coffee. Enjoyed light breakfast to start our day. Wonderful location right in the village so we walked everywhere. My only downside was our room's floors drove me nuts with the squeaking. Not a room you want to get up in the night to go to the bathroom. But, old floors will do that....we ate our last night in the restaurant and oh my word, it was so wonderful. Tasted everyone's dishes at our table and it was fresh, homemade and just delicious. Even if you don't stay at the inn, go for dinner...the restaurant closes about 9:00 or so which didn't bother us upstairs with noise... read more

This is for the Inn ONLY - not the new restaurant.... We had a pre-Mother's Day getaway for just the girls (sister-in-law(s) & Mother-in-Law). We had 2 rooms - the Azalea and the Dogwood... both were perfect for sharing (2 beds in each). The bathroom's were spacious & we were provided waters and some granola bars in our rooms (thought that was sweet of them). We were able to check in early and everything was clean and everyone associated with the Inn was super friendly. Pinehurst is a wonderful "village" and if you are going for fancy, neither the Magnolia nor Pinehurst may be exactly right for you. Things are quaint and adorable. Yes, the floors creak and paint is peeling - that's what the place is all about and we find it perfect. Our stay @ The Magnolia was a great treat only made better by coffee the next morning on the porch with the house cat, Pumpkin :) :) Cannot wait to return exclusively to the Inn (but the former Dawg House Pub and new Grandiflora Restaurant will not be getting my money).... read more

The service was the worse I have experienced..our waitress was really "smart mouth" and everything we ask for she had a "gruff" reply...the food was only ok and although the singer was great...it was WAY TOO LOUD!!!!! we could not hear each other talk...would not recommend this place unless they make alot of changes ..also they included the tip so they could care less if you are pleased..go to 195 instead!!! Stopped in for a few cocktails on our way home and were delighted that we were just in time for the start of their outdoor live entertainment. Weather was awesome, band was awesome, server was awesome and so much fun. However, DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, order the fried ravioli, unless you have an affinity for nucleated pasta that has been fried to death, including the filling which was basically non existent, due to the nucleation process. I'm serious, they were just awful. I really hope this was just a fluke, or they should be taken off of the menu. I did see some folks who were eating the flatbread, and it looked amazing. I will definitely rerurn, as we have eaten here before and the food is good. But seriously, don't waste your money on the ravioli. read more

Disappointing! The charm and decor of this lovely, well located Inn is not matched by the food. Tasteless fish, cold fries, tasteless slaw, plastic condiment holders on the plate. The plate presentation looked like something from the kids menu at MacDonald's. And, there's more! The Inn was proud to have 2 musicians playing the night we were there. Too bad they were so loud we could not hear our waitress ask for our order. I felt sorry for our very nice server who had to offer feeble excuses for all the problems. Located in downtown, historic pinehurst, the Magnolia Inn has been carefully and lovingly restored to its role as a local landmark by its owners. they have slowly reduced the amount of space devoted to a rather stuffy, restaurant and replace it with a delightful pub that serves good food and a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. It is also family friendly and has a wonderful outdoor eating area. A great option for golfers and families alike.... we make it a mandatory stop whenever we visit and have never been disappointed. Don't forget to say Hi to Dan, the owner... don't worry about finding him, he will find you. He greets everyone and is a real resource on the area if you engage him. read more

Spent a long weekend in Pinehurst and booked a golf package through the Magnolia Inn. Prices for the full package were very reasonable and you can't beat letting them handle all of your reservations, A+ service in this area! They got us all the tee times we requested and even did all of the necessary re-booking when we had to adjust the dates for our trip, including adjusting the hotel nights. If you are looking for a "big hotel" experience this might not be the place for you, but if you are looking for one-one personal service in a relaxed environment, this is the one for you. Beautiful historic building and a kind of cross between b&b and hotel was great. We didn't get to experience the patio because of weather but I can imagine it is the place to be during warmer temps. Only minor cons were the sub-par signal for the wi-fi and the clawfoot tub shower felt a little small. read more

Food was marginal at best for the price. The burger was overly lean, dry and flavorless. The other dishes were mediocre. Relatively confident they served a cheaper wine than what was ordered, or the bottle had been open too long. Fried shrimp were OK, good texture and fried well. Under new management for about a year, our dinner there on 8/2/12 was, to use a military term, FUBAR. It took a couple minutes after arriving to find someone to seat us. Once seated, our server asked us if we'd like an appetizer barely after we'd opened the menu. She didn't ask us if we'd like a drink, which we did. (And this person was presumably training a second person who was in tow.) Ordered wine and our entrees. Both came promptly, altho my wife's order was wrong. She had explicitly ordered a scallop dish off the regular menu that was somewhat similar to a special. What she actually got was either the special or, according to the senior server, "off next week's menu." For perhaps the second time in our 60+ years on Earth, we sent my wife's dish back. The primary server said she'd get her correct order "in 10 minutes," which took, of course, 15-20. They did bring my wife a complimentary glass of wine. The #1 server later asked me if I wanted a glass of wine and I said "no." About 10 minutes later, the #2 server brought me a glass of wine and set it down with a smile. I didn't say anything but drank it anyway. Finally, my wife's new and correct dinner arrived. We noticed that the sea scallops were maybe half the size of those on her first plate. My shrimp and lobster with bowtie pasta was excellent. The bill came and of course my second glass of wine was not comped. Silly me. My bad. We'd say the food quality was quite good but the overall experience left a lot to be desired. read more

The Magnolia has two areas to eat as well as a bar. The outside area has a bar style menu while the inside is upscale. We have eaten at both and had excellent meals every time. We have also stayed in the bed and breakfast and it too was well worth the money. Feels like a family run establishment, so you always feel at home. When the weather is nice, they have live music outside. Can not say enough good things about The Magnolia. Can't wait to go back. read more

My husband and I have eaten at Magnolia Inn (in The Pub) several times and have always had good service and a good meal. Great appetizers and fish and chips.
