This was one of the most thrilling helicopter rides I have ever been on. While driving from the airport, I noticed a sign about Magnum Helicopters advertising they did "doors off" helicopter flights. I was intrigued by that. Earlier that week, I had done another helicopter tour with another company that was more sedate but good as well. The day b4 my flight back to the states, I decided to give Magnum a try. I was looking for a thrilling ride that could rival skydiving (I used to skydive many years ago). This ride gave me the thrill I was looking for. It was so fun to have the doors off, be strapped in, and hear the wind rushing by. This place is very very conscientious about safety. You watch a safety briefing on a video, etc. The ground crew takes good care of you and makes sure you are strapped in well, etc. Our pilot was Josh and he made the whole trip fun. He was an excellent pilot, took us to see all the important sights, and had great banter with the passengers. You can tell he is very experienced with piloting a helicopter and very safe too. Feeling the wind blow in your face, mussing up your hair as you fly around was a lot of fun. We could bring our phones with us to take pics and videos but they had to be in a plastic bag case tethered to our wrist (case and tether is available for rent or purchase). Magnum Helicopters is also based upon the Magnum PI show. The helicopter is painted in those colors and there is a Ferrari that one can sit in (in the waiting area) and gets pics in. I am hoping to come back to Oahu later this year so I can visit the other islands. If I do, I'll be sure to come back to Magnum Helicopters to get another thrilling ride read more

The day before our tour, they canceled our reservation and rescheduled us for another day -- inconvenient, but we tried to be understanding. Then, unbelievably, they canceled again right before the second date too! No real explanation, no apology worth mentioning, and no effort to make things right. Magnum helicopters provided an awesome aerial tour of Oahu over Waikiki has to Coal house in Kailua area down back through the Dole Plantation and return to the airport area. The helicopter seats the pilot and two passengers up front and two additional passengers in the rear seats. I sat in the rear right side. I was really surprised that there was only a simple safety belt for each seat. Because there are no doors I really thought there would be a second safety belt of some sort like even a metal restraint or rope but I was just told don't lean out and you'll be fine. It was quite an experience to zip around the island in a helicopter without doors. Strongly recommended! Definitely a wonderful way to see the island! read more

A helicopter tour of Oahu was high on my list of "to do" items for my vacation. What better way to check off that bucket list item than to fly in an open door helicopter. I won't lie. I am a fan of Magnum PI so flying in a helicopter which looked like an Island Hopper plane was a big draw. I've never flown in a helicopter before and was not really sure what to expect. The staff was welcoming and friendly. They reviewed all the safety items and answered questions. I was seated in the front with the pilot. The ground crew securely fastened my seat belts and harness before lift off. I am not fearful of heights and did not feel unsafe with no doors. I did find that it was hard to hear the pilot while we were airborne. The volume was turned up on my headphones but it was still hard to hear with the wind and rotors. We flew over Waikiki, Diamond Head, the North Shore, and Pearl Harbor. The view from the air is spectacular. You can see so much more than you can on the ground. There are plenty of souvenir options in the gift shop to remember your adventures. Ground photos are taken before you board the helicopter and can be purchased at the end of the flight. A video is taken while in the air which can be purchased once you land. I chose to purchase both the photos and the video even though I took pictures while we were in the air. This was a really cool activity and a great way to see the island. It was well worth the cost to have such an incredible experience. read more

Great experience all around. Everyone was friendly & helpful. The flight itself was wonderful and informative. I got to see some sea turtles swimming in the ocean, a waterfall, the stairway to heaven hike, the dole plantation pineapple farm, and Pearl Harbor. There was obviously more - but those were some of my favorites! The pilot was safe and kind. A great way to see parts of the island you might not have a chance to see otherwise. read more

The process of scheduling the event and all activities from the crew on the ground the day of the event was top notch, 5 stars. As far as the doors off helicopter tour, it was challenging in as much as comms between the pilot and passengers were very hard to hear and understand. The pilot really never introduced himself. In addition, the ride was difficult due to the doors being off and the wind making it very hard to take pictures or videos while maintaining a secure feeling as a passenger. The helicopter itself was very small inside and the two passengers in front were squeezed and the two in back barely had room to move while trying to stabilize themselves from the movement of the helicopter. The overall theme was great (IE Magnum PI) and the Ferrari on display was a plus for pictures. The cost was very high for a 50 minute pass across the island. read more

All I can say is this should be mandatory for everyone that comes to Oahu. One of the most amazing ways to see the island. I was a bit nervous before taking off especially with no doors but after about 5 minutes in the air the views completely distract you. It was worth every penny and I was really considering doing jt again before the trip ended. Pilot was very knowledgeable and skilled. Notified us that over the mountains it gets a bit windier and reassured us that it will just feel like off-roading for a little bit. If you splurge on one thing when you go to Oahu for vacation- splurge on a helicopter tour. These guys are a class act! Warning- they weigh you- only because they have to distribute weight evenly- but I know this can be triggering to some people. Then onto a safety video- life jacket- meet your pilot. Jesse was my pilot/tour guide and was awesome. We flew all over Oahu- saw Waikiki, flew over Diamondhead, Kiki Crater, we saw Molokai and Maui, we saw a secret waterfall you can only see from the air, we flew close to the ridges, up to the North Shore. Then - I do love history- we flew the route the Japanese pilots flew when they bombed Pearl Harbor and then over Pearl Harbor. Our pilot/tour guide was very knowledgeable, fun, and felt very safe.
