We all work for a high tech $26 billion global manufacturing company in Buffalo Grove, so, what a blessing that this restaurant is only 20 minutes from our plant! My Indian coworker (who's originally from New Delhi), chose this place for our team dinner (her husband had dined at this restaurant's Chicago location with his company colleagues recently, and gave them a glowing review)! Anyway, we LOVED the awesome food, service and ambience here and will DEFINITELY be back! For appetizers, we had the Spring Rolls, Gobi 65 (a spicy curry cauliflower dish, which my boss surprisingly really liked--given that she said cauliflower wasn't really a favorite vegetable of hers), and the Keema Samosas (triangular pastries stuffed with ground-cooked lamb)! For entrees, I had the Lamb Dahiwala and Jheera Rice; my boss had the Chicken Mint Masala; and our Indian colleague had the Dal Makhani (a popular dark lentils dish, which she generously shared with my boss and me)! For drinks, I had a Mango Lassi; my boss had a huge bottle of Taj Mahal Beer (which she really liked)!!! All the food was so fresh, flavorful, perfectly cooked, plus served quickly and efficiently! I've stopped by this restaurant a few times on my way back from visits to Lake Michigan, and it has become one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the area. The restaurant has a beautiful Punjabi-style ambiance and a bar offering a wide selection of beverages, including Indian whiskies and many other drinks. The food menu offers a great variety of vegetarian, vegan, and non-vegetarian dishes. My personal favorites are the Dal Makhani and Sarson da Saag, which are always delicious and full of with flavor. Others in my group tried several vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The lunch menu is also very appealing, both in terms of variety and value for the price. One small suggestion would be to add more no onion, no garlic vegan options, which would make the menu even more inclusive. A special thank you to Mr. Bajaj for always welcoming us with such warmth and hospitality. The excellent service, delicious food, and friendly atmosphere keep us coming back. Food is great very pricey but the food is good. Food does not come with rice so you have to pay extra for the rice so I paid $18 for butter chicken with no rice no Nan so was not expecting that. They are friendly and they did give me rice as I was expecting to pay $25 for one dish. read more

One of the worst customer service experiences I've had. The man who seemed to be the manager was rude from the moment we walked in and wouldn't let us sit at a corner table for a strange reason. When we paid, he claimed he had no change without even checking and refused to split the payment between cash and card. Wow. My friend and I had the best experience here today. I feel like the staff treated us like family. They worked well together as a team to fill water glasses, bring out food, and clear the table. Came here with a South Indian friend and it was great! Unfortunately, he is a vegetarian so we only ate vegetarian dishes, but they were still really good. Very flavorful! The chili naan was good, the eggplant dish we had was also good. Next time, I will come back here and try out their dishes with meat. I am a carnivore. I wish I would have remembered to take a picture of the inside of the restaurant. The decor was elegant. The servers were awesome, very attentive. We were able to get a high chair for our little one. The food was excellent. My favorite was the tandoori chicken, it was very well seasoned. My second favorite was the butter chicken. We got there for the lunch, and were able to try a few lunch specials as a shareable for the table. The portions were awesome. I definitely recommended this place to a few of my friends so far. I was in town for work and craving Punjabi food so decided to check this joint out - so glad I did! The manjis outside were a nice authentic touch and I oddly enjoyed the over the top Punjabi statues. The real star of the show - the food. Both my husband and I ordered the goat lunch special which came with goat roganjosh, chicken makhani, tandoori chicken, rice, AND naan...and a lot of everything. Quality was also on point - not too heavy. We easily could've gotten by with one order between the 2 of us. How do I know? Because we ordered takeout 4 days later and shared the same dish - it was that good. The makhan on top - it was reasonably priced. I can't say enough of Maharajan Indian Grill and the delicious food they consistently offer day in, day out. We usually order chicken masala, achar gosh, one of the many curries(goat is our favorite), garlic naan, tandoori chicken and biryani. The service matches the food as they never forget a face. Whenever we order from there and my daughter accompanies us, they usually offer her a mango lassi because they know she loves it. The decor inside is also very nicely done. Even though we only started about 2 years ago, we've tried a few in our travels and so far this is #2 on the list. I specifically came for the dinner for two deal which is a good amount of food for my family. We loved the "mixed grill" dinner for two (we did have some non-spice eaters among us). So everything was "mild" but my kids loved it so much. The flat bread cracker (papadum?) was served with two chutneys. The cracker was light and salty, and paired with the sweet and fresh chutneys it was a preview of the tatses to follow. Then came the cart with a tandoor grill assortment of a lamb sausage w/mint, tandoor chicken, kebab chicken. A dal and butter chicken was also served. We ate and were well pleased. The food was delicious and I'll have to be back for their spicier dinner for two. That menu had fish and lamb, should be another winner based on this last experience. I had no idea that Maharaj Indian Grill was even in Northbrook! This means we have been missing out on lovely cuisine and the wonderful staff that greeted us so kindly when we dropped in for lunch. The evening before Thanksgiving I had drinks with a friend at her home. I brought some munchies, and she had a sampler platter from Maharaj Indian Grill. The meat was all tender and flavorful. The Saturday after Thanksgiving my daughter and I dropped in to give them a try in person. The restaurant is located in a strip shopping center, and is decorated nicely. The staff was friendly, and did an amazing job answering our questions. We ordered a vegetable dish and butter chicken. Both were served with a bowl of the fluffiest rice, a lentil dish that could be put on the rice, or even eaten as a soup, and naan. The naan was so soft. We asked if we could have garlic naan with one of the entrees, and it was wonderful. Our entrees were off of the lunch menu, so the cost of our lunch was super affordable. My husband and I are already looking forward to trying them for dinner. read more

Long story short, we had a little bit of everything and everything was delicious! I had a plate that came with some chicken and lamb....both very creamy, spicy, and delicious - very heartwarming. Very generous on the sauce as well (to dip that delicious naan in). Their beer selection is also pretty great, though I can't remember which one I tried, it was pretty tasty. My partner ordered sampler plate along with a lentil soup, which she loved! For dessert, I ordered some gulab jamun, which were of course, delicious. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and my want for some good indian food was overwhelmingly satisfied here. The only thing that had us a little confused was that we ordered a tea and that took a really long time (well after our meal) to get to us.... We've been getting takeout regularly since they opened. They were excellent at first, but growth seems to be taking its toll. The constant "help wanted" messages probably don't help. Our most recent meal had more heat than spice, which is a shame. The okra is very oily. Both the dal and channa had too much sauce and not enough substance. The lamb is also light on seasoning. The worst part of the meal, however, was the papadum. It was old, not made that day, and had the texture of soft cardboard. I think they are lowering the quality and quantity of food and portions sizes to avoid raising prices, and I would much rather pay more for the quality (and quantity) of food they had 1-2 years ago. We won't stop using them but for now will take a break and try other new spots in the area. read more

Maharaj Indian Grill is a nicer Indian restaurant in the Northbrook area. The malai Kofta curry is really tasty and a bit on the sweeter side. The garlic naan bread is really fresh too. Good service and experience overall if you're in the area. My only gripe is that rice does not come included with entrees you have to pay extra, but other than that I recommend stopping in if you're in the area. read more
