    Complementary birthday lychee kulfi
    Cynthia G.

My mom and I celebrated her birthday at Indus on a Saturday at 4:30pm. The food, service, and ambience made for a great night. We were the only people in the restaurant when we arrived, but it was packed by the time we left, so I recommend making a reservation. Our favorite dish were the lamb chops--they were well seasoned and grilled to perfection! The chops were served with a salad that was also very unique and delicious. We were served a complimentary small bite that was unlike anything I had ever tasted. The tikka masala, rice, and garlic naan were also great. We ordered a cauliflower dish that was okay and I didn't realize it'd be mashed vs. whole pieces. We'd probably try other sides next time. My mom loved her mezcal cocktail that our server recommended. The server was also kind enough to offer us a complementary dessert from the menu, so we picked the lychee kulfi. We could tell the cake had recently been baked.

After hearing much praise about Indus,, we finally made our way out there. Let me say, it did not disappoint! They are a Modern Indian restaurant that serves both traditional dishes, as well as non-traditional. We started with drinks, and loved the cocktails! All had great flavor and good balance. I also loved that they started off the meal with complimentary pani poori. I am definitely a sucker for this! By far, my most favorite thing I ate was the masala brisket. I highly recommend, as it definitely tastes like it's been smoked for 20 hours. The wings and Prawns were also delicious. I am a big okra fan, so if you are too, don't skip the fried okra! Not pictured (because we just dove in and forgot), but highly recommended were also the daal, momma's chole, and paneer fritters. Also, you obviously can't leave here without getting the naan! The only thing maybe I'd skip on is the dessert. I think they went a bit too creative and some of the flavors were more geared towards an acquired taste vs. mass appeal. The mango sorbet did not look like sorbet, but rather like frozen canned juice. Overall, this place is a solid 4.5, and I'll definitely be back!

Chef's Recommendation is Indus Progressive Indian Wow, absolutely loved everything about this restaurant. Our server Gigi was extremely informative and helpful. The service was incredible the food was outstanding and overall the most impressive experience I've ever had. The decor and ambiance are lovely and elegant. Was so pleasantly surprised by the detail of the lovely restroom. A fun surprise if you go with your girlfriend and a camera. So fun and creative!

My most recent dinner at Indus Progressive Indian was fantastic (as usual). I hadn't had their Indian lamb chops before, but now that I have, will again and again. I can see why they recently received the Chicago Tribune's award for best suburban restaurant. Such a delightful and delicious evening...

Tried this newly opened restaurant with my husband over dinner. We started off with Indian Bird, Jaggery Old Fashioned and Zero Proof Summer drink. the drinks were amazing. For starters we then had Samosa and Chickpeas Avocado Chaat. The samosas were delicious however the Chickpeas Avocado Chaat was just ok. For main course, we then had Chicken Tikka Masala and Navabi Risotto Khichrdi chaar yaar. The main dishes were flavourful. The service was top notch. The owners were coming to each table and making sure everything is tasting great. the server was warm, attentive and friendly. The ambiance is so trendy and modern. I would recommend this place! MUST TRY!!

The food is unbelievable i recommend getting seconds of everything on the menu!!! The service is top notch and makes you feel like you're at a Michelin star restaurant. When you walk in you have a very intimate but spacious feel and the staff treat you like you're the only one there. Love this place so much and can't wait to go back.

Indus is a gem of a place, nestled in the heart of Highland Park. Each dish is crafted with the best flavor and technique, showcasing bold spices and aromas. We tried some of the popular Indian dishes like the chicken biryani, palak paneer, daal, lamb shank. Everything was phenomenal. They have so many innovative and unique dishes on their menu that I can't wait to go back and try them all. A wide range of cocktails infused with Indian flavors took this experience to a whole different level. Indus is a must-visit spot for anyone craving an authentic and upscale Indian dining experience in the Northshore area. With its stunning ambiance, exceptional service, and exquisite cuisine, this restaurant is sure to leave you wanting more.

Indus Progressive Indian is a fantastic lunch spot on a chilly Chicagoland afternoon or any other time. The Chetinaad Chicken Dosa was crisp and flavorful, the India-style Fried Chicken perfectly spiced, and the Delhi-style Coffee Shake and Masala Tea warm and indulgent. Service was attentive, the ambience modern yet cozy, and everything spotless. The heavy red curtain at the entrance feels unwelcoming--replacing it would improve the first impression. Otherwise, an excellent experience worth revisiting!

So we came here on a random Friday night to test our luck to get a table at 7 o'clock for two people. We got lucky and got to sit inside because that's where we wanted to sit although they do have sidewalk or outdoor seating as well. I thought sitting inside would be cooler, but I was wrong as all the doors and windows were open and I don't believe the AC was on at all. Well, the menu is pretty extensive. I will say that a vegetarian could definitely eat here as well as anyone else. This is our first visit here and as you can tell from the photos ordered quite a bit of food. And typical top of style the portions are pretty small, but they are meant to be shared. It was actually too much food for two people who were already hungry. Some of the standouts were definitely the meatballs and the salad salads. The jamon iberico was absolutely incredible. Not pictured was the picture of sangria we ordered. We got the rosé and to be quite honest with all of the heat. It actually watered down way too quickly. And it also came in a plastic picture, which was a bit of a turn off. The shrimp with garlic was good, but the garlic was hard to taste because it was also covered or doused in a lot of tomato base or tomato sauce. I was really looking forward to a very clear buttery or olive oil sauce that was saturated with garlic. The mushrooms were OK as well, but again too much tomato in this dish that I'm not used to. The potatoes were also very tasty and well seasoned, and the sauce on it was just right. I think this is a good option for people who want top us in the suburbs however, I will say that I hope they do some tweaking to the recipes as well so that they have something that truly makes them stand out and unique.

Everything over all was delivery but some highlights from the shared dinner were the eggplant spread, the brussel sprouts, and date cake. Warmed pitas were seasoned well and texture was fluffy but not too soft where it wasn't able to hold its shape. I could have the sweet potatoes latkes everyday! The lamb ragu hummus and short rib were good but we found the actual protein was a bit dry and flavor subdue compared to their accompaniments. The spicy brisket kabobs were good but we were stuff so we had to slow our roll. The Date cake was delicious! Perfect amount of sweetness for those both sweet lovers and non lovers! 10/10 recommend. We were a little surprised when nothing was done for it, which isn't a big deal, but I'll be honest it was disappointing since we did come specifically to celebrate and had talked about it w our server. 3/5 Arancini - Very salty. None of us really enjoyed them because of that. They also came out lukewarm instead of hot. Would have been excellent if it was less salty and came out hot and crispy. 5/5 Fig & Mushroom (subbed for prosciutto) - The menu doesn't specify how the fig is served. Turned out to be fig jam rather than fresh fig, which wasn't what we expected. A little too sweet for me but overall still very much enjoyed it. Their pizza was cooked perfectly with enough toppings and cheese. Very good pizza! 5/5 Braised Short Rib + Polenta - so good! The short rib was excellent, just slightly salty. The polenta was perfect, and it came with a generous portion of wild mushrooms. 2/5 White Wine Cake (recommended as "unique") by our server - This was the most disappointing meal item. Our waitress told us it was special, but it was very bland and didn't match the description or image on their website. Their website showed a cake with a large scoop of ice cream on top, fair amount of whipped cream and raspberry sauce. Ours came with maybe a quarter of the size of that ice cream scoop, a little teaspoon dollop of whipped cream that you eat in one bite and the raspberry sauce was a tiny smear on bottom for decor but there wasn't enough to actually eat it. The cake itself was moist but lacked flavor. It took a really long time to come out, we thought perhaps they forgot, then forgetting we were celebrating a birthday on top of that was disappointing. Atmosphere - Beautiful space, very well done. The only issue is how close the tables are, you can't pull your chair back without hitting someone, and getting to the bathroom requires asking others to move because of how tight the layout is. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would return. While there were a few dishes we wouldn't order again, and others we would. Would love to try the wild mushroom pizza next time! The only thing was that since we had come to celebrate a birthday and didn't end up doing that, the night felt a little less special than we had expected--but still a nice experience overall.

The strawberry-basil shrub was a key ingredient, and I don't get to a lot of places that use a shrub in their drinks. There was definitely a STRONG vinegar taste but for me, that was great. I also ordered a pasta dish, orecchiette and sausage with peas and a sweet, creamy sauce. Orecchiette and sausage are such a classic combo and I hadn't had this sauce before; it was a pleasant dish and was perfectly al dente. Service was good for the bar area. Service was slow - probably had a little to do with being on a second floor of the restaurant. But we enjoyed the pace. Entrees ordered were 2 different steaks and one Bacon wrapped chicken. The steaks were amazing. A lot of places, even steakhouses, are cutting back on quality due to costs. These steaks were delicious. I ordered the Allen Bros Ribeye which was cooked perfect and was sooooooo flavorful. It was awesome. The Bacon Wrapped Chicken however, was actually black on top and the chicken dry and over cooked. My wife couldn't eat it. To the restaurant's strength, when we alerted the waiter, they immediately took it off the bill and offered to get anything else. After several visits, it is clear this is a restaurant that understands the fundamentals of fine dining: atmosphere, execution, and a menu that extends well beyond its steakhouse label. What first sets The Tavern apart is its ambiance. The space leans into a dark, romantic, dimly lit aesthetic that feels both polished and inviting. On our most recent visit, we were seated upstairs according to our reservation, and that remains the preferred setting. The quieter noise level above the main floor allows for more comfortable conversation and a more intimate dining experience. Service was solid, if not especially memorable. Our server was efficient and capable throughout the evening, though somewhat lacking in warmth and guidance. Fortunately, the kitchen carried the night with ease. Every entrée at the table was excellent. My wife's lobster was particularly well received, while the steaks were cooked properly, deeply flavorful, and presented with the kind of care expected at this level. Presentation across the board was refined and appealing. The wine program also deserves recognition. The list is extensive, thoughtfully selected, and offers strong choices for diners who appreciate pairing a serious bottle with dinner. The Tavern is undeniably a high-price-point experience, but it largely delivers the quality and atmosphere to justify it. For those seeking a refined steakhouse meal in Libertyville with strong food, notable wine, and an intimate setting, it is easy to recommend.

(My apologies for forgetting their names). Both were exceptionally pleasant. The trainee did a superb job walking us through the menu, explaining the concept of ordering. We decided on a variety of dishes, and Aba delivered: - Wild Mushroom Hummus: A smooth earthy dish with roasted mushrooms folded into a creamy hummus, finished with truffle oil and herbs. Yummy! - Tuna & Watermelon: A refreshing pairing of tender tuna balanced with juicy watermelon, cucumber, pomergrant seeds and mint. Loved it! - Green Chili Shrimp: Served in a metal dish used for escargo. The shrimp were covered by breadcrumbs and lots of butter with a slight kick to it. Great for dipping your bread in. It did not disappoint! - Pan Seared Halibut: A perfectly seared, delicate fillet, moist and flaky that highlighted the fish's clean, buttery profile. And from the cocktail menu, the Aloe? It's Me. Then they offer us 5 seats at the bar, we just awkwardly sat there because obviously we were there for girl dinner and didn't want this to count as our one drink. I however needed a martini asap so ordered that for full price. We wait another 15 minutes at the bar. At around 7:55pm the hostess (maybe manager) came to get us to bring us to our table. She mentioned once about comped drinks (never came) and another about free dessert (which did come!) She took our drink order as we were sitting down, after about 10 more minutes (8:05) our actual server comes over only to realize the other woman had gotten our drinks and he just walked away. The food itself was okay but nothing to write home about and the service was below average once seated. Also random- we asked for boxes at one point, I had gotten a small personal sized pizza. I asked the server for a box and I kid you not he brought a XL pizza box.
