This is the first review i have ever written on any site, i was in a horrible accident and had to have the left side of my head shaved, about two years later, This November i just happen to see the MAI SALON on Groupon I really needed to have something done that day,( it was a week before Thanksgiving. The woman on the phone who happens to be the owner, graciously got me in and within an hour i was sitting in what was a very cool hip , simple decor environment with a very cool vibe drinking a coffee that the girl behind the desk offered. Richie, is by far the most knowledgeable , humble artist i have ever met. with her it is so much more that a haircut. She listened well, she cut my hair exactly as i had asked. She took her time. but what was so cool was after her consult with me the owner went over and they had a quiet conversation going over my hair. it was a two day process which i didn't really did not want . She explained that the color she was using on me wasn't bad for my hair and how it would blend in natural without any hard chemicals to damage what was already a nitemare. This artist knows not only how to cut and style from my situation , she also told me if i did some things she suggested that she promised my hair would be healthier and stronger and longer by the time i went back. No she didn't tell me to take biotin altho she said it couldn't hurt. I have to say it took about 3 hours and i promise it was all worth the time. its been a little over 6 weeks and i can't tell you how my hair is today, She says its not all about making a client look good for a day or even a month. its about healthy beautiful hair , it turned out so beautiful and everything she said was true. i know i am going on and on but the concern and the time they put into the health of your hair. and the prices they do it at .... After years of disappointing men's haircuts by various stylists in Palm Springs, I Googled salons in Palm Desert and Mai Salon was the only one with decent reviews that was open on the Saturday of Memorial Day week-end (and remained open with regular hours all summer). Lawrence was able to squeeze me in ... and take his time correcting the uneven, ugly "round" style I'd come in with. To fix it, Lawrence said it had to be cut shorter than I wanted, and I'm glad I listened. My hair grew in quickly and perfectly ... and Lawrence's second cut was even better! Once I had a head of properly shaped hair to work with, he listened carefully to what I had to say: On some days, I wanted to be able to do "nothing" to my hair -- just towel dry and leave the house; on others, I wanted something that could be spiked and molded; and I also wanted the possibility to "flatten and part" for a more conservative cropped look. Too much to ask? Nope. He shared his thoughts on how he'd cut to achieve that, and offered suggestions on a slightly different shape that would flatter my face and make my hair look thicker. Came out perfect -- better than I had envisioned -- and lasted me a good 6 weeks while I was traveling. Just had my third cut yesterday, and another excellent job! Thanks Lawrence! read more

The tagline, (paraphrasing) 'You've tried the other salons, now try Mai Salon', couldn't be more apropos. I have been in the desert for a year via Beverly Hills where I had the good fortune of working with some of the best (hair) sytlists/colourists/artists...etc. I was fearful when coming to the desert to find someone as competent, progressive, etc. as I had in BH. My fear was well-founded as I have had many botched jobs in the short time I have been in the desert. If it were not for Mylie, I would be driving five hours round-trip to get my hair done in Beverly Hills. I finally found her and was able to correct the problems I encountered here, and she and her wonderful staff continue to maintain high quality, fashion forward hair style/cut/colour, etc. Not only that, but the customer service goes above and beyond! read more

i needed an updo for my wedding, and I trusted Lawrence to do it for me. We did several trials to make sure it was just right. He was incredibly patient with me. I'm pretty indecisive and I'm sure I'm difficult to work with, as I refuse to have any chemicals put in my hair. I wanted to be super natural on my wedding day like i am in daily life. Lawrence was totally understanding and accommodating. On the big day he traveled to my wedding venue so I wouldn't need to stress about going somewhere. He did my hair perfectly. It was windy for my outdoor wedding, but every hair stayed in place. I felt gorgeous and received many compliments. It was exactly what I was looking for. We had our wedding in Ranch Mirage and asked our hairdresser (from another salon) to come and help us do hair for the brides and other family members. We needed some additional help and based on a recommendation, I called Maily and she agreed to do hair for a few additional people. On the day of the wedding, the primary hairdresser was hours late. On the fly, Maily was able to change her schedule and was able to pick up the slack and made sure that everyone had their hair done and on time. Everyone looked beautiful!!! Every time I go into Mai Salon, I come out feeling like a million bucks. Mailey always treats my hair with such care and has such great hospitality, when I'm there I feel like family. She is the BEST in her trade, by far. I don't trust anyone else with my hair. Her styles and creativity are unique yet trendy. Her skills with color are amazing and really no other salon comes close. I love how my hair always feels healthier when I leave just after a haircut and highlights, no treatments needed. I travel from San Diego just to get my haircut by Mailey. Cute place! It's very comfortable and not one of those over the top intimating salons where you feel like you can't be honest. Very welcoming. Ashley saved my hair, it was a mess and I have been pushing off getting my hair done for a while because I was so embarrassed. But as always she was great, my hair feels so much healthier, color is wonderful, good cut, she is a miracle worker. Recommend products but not pushy at all about getting them. I found Mai Salon through Groupon and I'm glad they were able to fit me in on a such short notice. Richie was my stylist and she was very informative, professional and just knew what she was doing. I had arrived with over process bleach blonde hair and she was able to help me out by giving it a much needed stylish cut and color. Richie also gave me hair advice that has helped me revive my hair. In addition to Richie, the owner was also very helpful and assisted me in making decisions in what I should do with the mess my hair had become! Overall, a great experience! read more

Maily does the best job ever with platinum blonde hair. I've been to over half a dozen shops over the years trying to get the correct shade of blonde. This time I called her at the last minute begging for her to fix this yellow hair I ended up with. She fit me in within an hour of the shop opening the very next day! Lesson learned. My hair was breaking off and looking very dull and dry. Mai listened to what I was struggling with and made my hair feel and look softer and easier to style. I drive over 200 miles just so I can ensure that I get a great cut and style. Rico Garza is the best. Always consistent and I get compliments from people right and left after I come home. Visited Mai Salon twice during my 3 month stay in the desert. Very friendly salon. Larry listened to what I wanted in my colour and hairstyle. He was bang on (no pun intended). Great colour products, great shampoo products. Larry very attentive and takes his time to do a great job. I would recommend this salon, and more precisely Lawrence is your guy. Rico is the best. I've been going to him for 7 years. I've followed him all around due to my 94 year old grandma who is so "picky" she has her hair done once a week. He does my hair as well (in my 40's) so he is very versatile. I have thin thin hair. He is a magician. He cuts, colors and styles to my complete liking. I love the cut he gave me today.
