There are not enough words in a dictionary to describe what brain balance has done for our family!…read more When we started 5 months ago, we were living in full blown crisis mode with our daughter. At 11 years old, she was eloping from school 2-3 times per week, would throw raging tantrums, hygiene was low on her priorities, and she was very sad and withdrawn. I could never properly explain our struggles. It was like living with a toddler trapped in a full size child body. Upon receiving her assessment, on paper they confirmed everything we'd seen for years. Her brain was weak on the right side and she was an average age of 4 years old. Fast forward 5 months, her brain has reconnected and both hemispheres working in concert. She's happy, focused, can read, tantrums are nearly gone, she able to be reasoned with, he fine motor skills are working, she knows her body in relation to her surroundings. Her confidence is building, her self image has improved, she has expressed goals of wanting to be a writer or a disney imagineer. She's now at an age level of 11-18 depending on the range of test. School is astonished at her growth. Our family can be a family doing family things! We just enjoyed 2 days at Disneyland with zero meltdowns. Something we've never been able to do before. Jon, Amanda, Rachel, Lauren, Chad and James have truly been the support net our family needed! Thank you for the incredible dedication you have to work with kids who need this the most. You mean the world to us!

Overall I was very skeptical when beginning brain balance. Our 9 year old daughter was struggling…read moreevery day in school. Crying on the way, refusing to do homework. Major aversion to learning. I did a TON of research, spoke with pediatricians (4), spoke with two principals, our school, her teachers, and had her tested at brain balance (I think it was $195) and also paid over $3000 dollars to have a two session testing done by Psychiatrist who is the person who does the testing for the Poway school district when kids fall two years behind in school. Because my daughter wasn't two years behind I had to pay (insurance doesn't cover it). Obviously the 3k test was very comprehensive and took two weekends to complete. The diagnosis was visual processing disorder and ADD. She was given the recommendation to go to therapy and get on meds. Visual processing disorder basically means: She can't read instructions and turn them into action, couple that with ADD and learning was a hot mess for her. The brain balance assessment does not diagnose, but it did indicate that among other weaknesses her main deficit was visual processing. That gave me confidence that aT least their testing was accurate. Then comes the huge sales pitch. The program was expensive, relatively new, etc etc. After much delay, thought, education and doctors opinions and therapists appointments we signed up for half the sessions they recommended in case it was not working. I have to admit I was still very speculative but there was no harm in it, and the worst possible case was that I lost money. I am happy to say she loved going. She's finishing her sessions next week and her scores in everything started under her age. She's now over her age group in everything except visual processing. Her grades have improved dramatically, her resistance to homework has improved dramatically and her confidence in learning has improved dramatically. We have zero crying and she never said asks to skip school anymore. She still has a ways to go visually but we now have the exercises to strengthen them and we know to get her vision checked and use her glasses constantly. Overall, we put our heart and soul into figuring out what was wrong and then helping her. So it's difficult to say which of the one million things we did helped us work it out, but I do think brain balance was an integral part of it, to my surprise. And I'm happy that we found a solution for the moment that allows her to feel confident and enjoy her day more, but we didn't have to medicate her. We are keeping medication options open and watching close, but so far this is working for her and I'll hold off on meds until I feel i have no other option.

Despite the important work being done in the ABA field, the company consistently fails to support…read moreits employees in meaningful or sustainable ways. One of the most concerning issues is the lack of communication and transparency. Employees often receive no notice when clients cancel sessions, resulting in wasted trips and unpaid time. In such cases, you're either told to clean the facility (an unreasonable expectation outside the role of a Behavior Technician) or you're abruptly reassigned to cover another BT's session without context or consent. The pay is among the lowest in the ABA field, especially when weighed against the emotional and physical demands of the job. The work environment is poorly maintained, with cleanliness being a recurring problem. The facility does NOT look like those posted online. The children's bathrooms and common areas are often unsanitary, raising valid concerns about hygiene, safety, and the general quality of care. A particularly troubling practice is the use of personal items like wipes brought in for one child that get used on other children, without the caregiver's knowledge. Additionally, BTs are often left in the dark about health-related issues like lice until after the situation is already "handled," which puts both staff and other clients at risk. Unsurprisingly, the company suffers from a very high turnover rate, which reflects the broader issues within the organization and further destabilizes the workplace. Overall, they show little regard for employee well-being, professional development, or proper client care. Even by looking at the reviews the only 5 star reviews are for speech therapists, not from the work being done!

They then recommended a neuro evaluation, which I agreed to, even though it's not really a concern of ours. They said they would write up a care plan and schedule a neuro evaluation as well as a speech evaluation (also video visits). These were scheduled two months out - and the confirmation emails didn't mention speech anywhere - just neuro evals. Since we only need speech therapy, I wanted to get clarification that at least one of these next two evals was for speech. I reached out via phone (twice) and message to verify, and they never responded. I got the first bill of $390 for the initial video consult. I'm sure the next two would have been another $390 each, and who knows when the actual, in-person speech therapy would have even started? I cancelled both and reached out to a free provider in San Diego recommended by our school. He is now scheduled for an in-person therapy session less than a month out. In my opinion, it seems like Cortica is more focused on generating revenue from parents via multiple (pointless) video visits rather than getting kids the help they need. The reviews make sense now!

We chose Cortica because of the better review. After worked with them for 2 months, they're the…read moresame as other places. They only care about money with poorly trained BTs. We changed 3 places within a year. I feel ABA is a scam! 1. They is unable to meet my goals at all. They tried to change the goals and picked easy ones to work around it. 2. Our BT only knows blocking and token. One time, she made my son cry and blocked him in our bedroom. I tried to get in and saw my son bang his head on the door. I'm so unhappy and asked the BT to stop. Then I talked to the BT. I said: there are so many methods of ABA, for example, DTT, shaping, prompting, etc.Blocking is kinda punishment for me. She looks that she never heard of other methods. She said this was the only training she got. I was shocked. It shows Cortica cannot provide a qualified BTs. I requested to have an experience BT, but they did not provide. They found this college student and gave a min training and started to work with kids. 3. They only cares about money. Supervisors never work extra beyond the session hours. They said they would do this and that, and send to me, but they never done anything. 4. In the pre-session meeting, they said they would provide parents training. We never got any parent training at all. 5. Two months later, both BT and supervisor quit the job. Due to their blocking time, we kept the time for ABA. Now we will have to figure out what to do with my son because school already started. We cannot enroll my son to ESS anymore. For working parents, it's hard. They messed up our schedules too. They're not willing to work with your schedule. You have to work with their block schedule! 6. A lot of time, BT just looked at the phone or did nothing. Imagine that you send your kid to their clinic, they're not doing anything. They just babysit your kid. They always say: Oh he/she had a great day. We did this or that. It's just BS! 7. They use screen time as a reinforcer. It's another sign of bad ABA. Any BT uses food or screen time as reinforcers. They're bad ABA. They're supposed to run preference analysis, but they had never done. ABA cannot help kids with ASD at all in current market. If the system is not changed, ABA is just a waste of time and money. Dont get me wrong. ABA is a good concept or method, but 99% people cannot use correctly or know how to use it. Overall, I dont recommend Cortica for ABA

Well, what can I say about ABAcus? Probably too many amazing things to fit in this review. But…read moremaybe I can express how much they have helped my family and I know they can help yours too. Our ASD Story: We have a now 3 1/2 year old who was diagnosed Autism a little after his 2nd birthday. And of course being first time parents we were totally overwhelmed and scared about our new path that we were being placed on. As many of you who are going through the evaluation process it is hard on the parents. This was the same for us. Not knowing how to decide what services to use, or methods to implore left us feeling extremely underqualified as parents. We didn't know what to do or who to turn to. Luckily San Diego County does have very good recourses for those effected by developmental differences. After diagnosis through the San Diego County Regional Center system we were assigned to the ABAcus team as our service providers. Boy can I tell you this was the best thing that could have happened to our family. When we first meet the wonderful folks at ABAcus my sweet boy seemed to lost in his own world. He would not respond to his name, make eye contact, and had lost any language that he had learned in the first few months of his life, just to name a few of his quirks. But when we look at my boy now I am truly amazed by his accomplishments and growth. He now will make and maintain eye contact (even if it's only a few seconds - progress is progress), will respond to his name, and is growing his language every day. And I mean every day - We do ABA Mon-Fri. NONE of this would have been possible without ABAcus. We have two service providers and a supervisor that regularly work with my kiddo, and let me you how amazing they are. They are patient yet firm. They are ALWAYS evaluating his goals to make sure that he is getting as much out of our time together as possible, and it shows. I can tell that they really care about my son and my family. Not only to they care about my son's growth and progress, they also take the time to help us learn the skills we need to help our son succeed. If you are looking for an ABA provider you should definitely give ABAcus a try. They have given us back the ray of light and for that I cannot ever really express how grateful I am for ABAcus, and the folks make it as amazing at it is....

Oh the gaslighting - getting chastised for being up to 10min late but the unreliable unprofessional high school graduate gets to cancel every scheduled appointment. Try commuting two hours a day in traffic for multiple canceled appointments. That's bad business. Furthermore, our experience made me feel these 1:1 staff may be under qualified to be working with autistic children considering their lack of supervision. They're supposed to work under a therapist - never saw them. No clue what the therapist looked like or if there ever was one in the building. We went M-F. **Shoutout to BA Andrea though for being wonderful to work with - she was very kind, friendly, reliable, receptive, and patient. Truly lovely person. I wish her all the best & the others that were able to step in when our other assigned staff canceled on us. They were all very kind. Also loved the receptionist, super friendly, bubbly, soft spoken, and kind. She's exactly the type of person you'd hope to meet in that position. My nanny (a BCBA @ different company) & I alternated dropping off my child and we had the same impression of 1:1 staff Angelica. Not good. Nanny said she didn't have a good feeling around her and thought she was ridiculous after Angelica once refused to leave the reception & let my child inside the main area (it's locked) unless my child carried her own diaper bag... ...It's for adults...containing weight that a 5 year old is physically incapable of carrying... Logic and eye sight allowed everyone else in the past 6 years to understand that this bag is for adults to handle. Also, my child is autistic & nonverbal. The bags height was a majority of my child's height. Eventually, Angelica had to carry it & allow my child inside since her irrational demand was never fulfilled. This interaction was highly inappropriate and discouraging as our only experience in ABA. It is difficult for a parent to leave their child alone with a stranger who is supposed to be qualified to help them. This person made us feel uncomfortable with her passive aggressive demeanor and unprofessional behaviors. My child was not there for long but during their short time together, I noticed a drastic difference in my daughter's behavior upon pick up. With Andrea, she was herself - happy, playful, curious, singing. With Angelica she appeared very dissociated, completely avoiding eye contact, looking down, walking in circles (stimming) or lying face down. I had no interest in trying to resolve anything as I pulled her out with all things considered.
