Secondly, "Mallory" said that I would need to get rid of my other insurances in order to receive services here with MediCal. As a nurse that's worked in a variety of healthcare settings over a span of 6 years, including psych, I have NEVER heard of this. This conversation alone was enough to make me not want to take my daughter here. As the first person you come in contact with, an intake specialist is supposed to kind, friendly, and helpful. Otherwise, it gives the wrong impression of the company itself. For the record, every other place I've been in contact with reaches out via phone upon inquiry. We had a lot of concerns and didn't know what progress would realistically look like. Erikah came in with a clear plan, set thoughtful stretch goals, and more importantly, knew exactly how to connect and engage in a way that made learning feel natural and fun. But after realizing over a period of time that they are nowhere near what I thought, I'm updating the experience. (Although I still don't believe the previous review about sage and still think he was covering his actions) They allow people to drink and when asked say "we know who's doing what" nonchalantly. That's pretty wild. They allow people to stay in the program even when they are found with drugs AND high. They will only allow someone to stay if they can sweep it under the rug. If it's a big show and cops or any other public incident they will make you leave and discharge you and threaten to get you in trouble. I genuinely had SUCH high hopes. But they don't treat patients/clients equally. They allow counselors to break HIPAA, twist peoples words, and talk about personal things that shouldn't be discussed in a work or professional environment. Adult topics specifically to clients families. Inappropriate! They don't even give warnings or tell you that you might be kicked out for something that is beyond your control. They expect you to just know. They allow families to come by and drop off clothes, supplies, etc but then they'll suddenly switch up and say you could be bringing drugs and use that as a final reason to discharge you. They allow weapons on the property (or just don't pay attention when someone brings a weapon, either way NEGLIGENCE) to the extent that people get injured. When told about a relapse, they literally can and do just sweep it right under the rug. And then since they don't document things like that if they choose not to, the director basically calls you a liar. Fortunately I documented every single incident and issue. Crazy. 3 of the counselors are great. But higher ups and the other half of the staff need to figure out what consistency, fairness, and professionalism in a healthcare setting means. If you come here, you could probably get away with just about anything as long as they can pretend it didn't happen I am not only filing a grievance, but reporting them to CDPH, DMHC, DOI, DHCS. Especially the last one (department of healthcare services).

The therapists do an ok job , depending on who you get but they were very patient with my son, and I am very grateful . The staff who manages these cases deserve their own review , and thats coming when I find more time, and this current issue is resolved. This review comes after a 2 month attempt to get ALP to communicate with Easter Seals to resume service for my child. After being convinced to put my child back on Kaiser insurance (he needed aba at school, state funded insurance doesn't cover) I went through a 60 day process of my child being re evaluated, and services being interrupted all so ALP can bill the higher payer, even though my child has dual coverage. After WEEKS of this, finally get the ball rolling with Easter Seals , and surprise! ALP has went ghost! Their own business partner Easter Seals had to report to me that they had received ZERO feedback when they reached out to resume services for my child. As of today we are going on 4 months without aba services , being forced to find a new provider and failed attempts to get my childs records from them. Today, another attempt to obtain my childs record were made. I will provide an update with the outcome .

It's hard for me to write this review- as words fail me to describe how GVLC has supported us as a family & directly to my beautiful, brilliant, hilarious little girl on this autism journey. Nothing fully prepares a parent for an autism diagnosis-particularly during COVID when service waiting times are protracted, budgets are limited, and there is a flood of (sometimes conflicting) information to wade through about what autism is, how to navigate services, and how best to support your little one & champion his/her special needs. Parenting a child on the spectrum is a miraculous, beautiful gift. It's a wild roller coaster of stops and starts; setbacks & triumphs. Our kid is perfect as she is-but the world/we as parents-don't always know how to adapt to her beautifully complex and unique wiring. We (my husband and I) are not on the autism spectrum, ourselves. I liken navigating autism parenting (particularly during the pandemic) as mastering a foreign language, sinking or swimming, a parenting bootcamp that can inspire (as well as sometimes, drain) the heart, soul, and mind of a parent & family. Golden View Learning Center staff became our lifeline through many storms-both related to the confusion of parenting a child on the spectrum, as well as during other storms that hit our family. Their staff are exceptional-professional, genuinely empathic & effusively supportive of your kiddo, organized, and very consistent. I had a lot of misgivings and ambivalence about ABA. I'm pretty much only on Facebook to follow autism parenting groups now-and I've read the horror stories as well as seen parents argue back and forth about the merits & controversies about ABA. I will say this-as I can only speak about our experience- My kid is eager to go to GVLC-she constantly asks when she "can go back to school" when she's not there. She wants to be there. They took a kid who was melting down day after day when so many crises were hitting her/our family (I was pregnant in a wheelchair after a pretty catastrophic accident-it took 5 months for me to learn to walk again, among other things-my wheelchair and inability to walk terrified my toddler & her frustrations in processing/expressing how she felt about the situation broke my heart)- and she now has functional speech. She can express what she wants. She is flourishing in the arts & is making/playing with her friends. She was always interested in other children-but didn't know how to engage with them (as her ASD would hinder her awareness of social cues/how to be in a social relationship-as loving/kind as she is intuitively)- and it was at GVLC that she began to play with others, greet others, step out of this insulated, but beautiful, world inside her head-and began to engage, express, play, and enjoy being a kid. She's talking now. When she stopped talking from her speech regression at 2 1/2 years old-it just shattered us. GVLC helped her. It helped us. Each kid on the spectrum is so uniquely and beautifully different. As they say-you meet one person on the spectrum, then well-you've only met one person on the spectrum. However, if you change the world or open the door to communication, relationships, expression for one kid- that catalyzes positive change in everything else. It has for us. It has for her, my darling perfect little girl. Thank you Golden View Learning Center for being part of our autism parenting journey-and championing our little girl every step of the way. Nallely & Claudia are wonderful, experienced RBTs. I pick up our kid everyday at 4 pm-and Nallely is always so smiley, encouraging, & positive. We commute for a while to come here everyday-and the physical/emotional journey to be here has been more than worth it. I don't trust most people with my kid. I'm glad I took this leap of faith. I'm not a family member or employee/staff of anyone at GVLC-I'm a flawed, but deeply devoted parent of a child on the autism spectrum. She's my everything. We chose the right vendor for the right reasons. I hope this review helps other parents who are feeling hit by storm after storm-trying to understand this new language & way of being, while looking from the outside-in.
