The recently opened University of New Mexico Adult Emergency unit and Critical Care Tower is a huge…read moreimprovement over the previous emergency room. One thing that really struck me was the security. We had to stop and be wanded and have all of our belongings searched before we were allowed to enter the waiting room and patient check-in area. It feels good knowing there are no weapons in the area and that everyone has been checked. Don't forget to leave your pepper spray in the car. There was an individual who was just kind of hanging out, laying down on one of the chairs. Security came to move him along and before long, there were 6 to 7 officers surrounding the individual who was refusing to leave. They were able to diffuse the situation and remove the gentleman without violence or harm. I was extremely impressed with the security in this new emergency unit and the professionalism of the officers. Another great feature is the mobile triage unit. In the waiting room, folks are triaged without having to get up from their chairs. Of course this is extremely helpful for people with mobility issues and the team was expeditious and professional. Another great feature are the private consultation cubbies that they have in the waiting room. The providers can come out and meet confidentially with the patient's family without having everyone in the waiting room listening. A super way to protect HIPAA. The visitor check-in staff were clear, kind, and personable, even with people who are not particularly kind to them. I felt like they actually cared about me and my family, which was really nice for a change. They also seemed to know who we were when I went back up to see if we could go back yet. I was really surprised because it had been an hour or so and many people had rolled through, but they knew right away that we were already checked in and able to go back to visit my family member. Each family is escorted to their family members' room in the back so there aren't people wandering around which again ensures greater security. My family member received exceptional care in the new emergency unit. He had Level 2 Trauma and was assessed quickly with myriad tests and imaging studies completed. We arrived at the hospital around 8 PM in the evening and after making sure my family member was being taken care of we left and were called at 4am to come to pick him up. This is remarkable considering many people, including me, have noted waiting upwards of 15 hours in the old UNMH emergency room. We were seen and my family member treated and released within eight hours! This was simply astounding to me, given how long it usually takes to be taken care of in an emergency room. The staff in the emergency unit were professional, kind, and forthcoming with information when they had it. This included a nurse and an x-ray tech with whom we interacted directly. Also, when we were trying to figure out where to go, a really nice staff member from the hospital (possibly a nurse or tech), who was taking his dinner break, kindly walked us to where we needed to go. Even when I tried to wave him off because I wanted him to eat his dinner while it was hot, he still proceeded further to make sure that we got to the right location quickly. He was also incredibly personable and kind. I feel that my family member received top-notch care by an experienced and professional team of individuals who worked together well to care of, not only my family member, but me and my other family member. At this point, I am happy to highly recommend the new University of New Mexico Hospital, emergency department and critical care tower. You can drop patients off at the Yale exit for the adult emergency unit. The pediatric emergency unit is a separate entrance and another location (see a map of UNMH online before you go). I don't have details on that since I haven't used it. I'm sorry, but I did not take pictures of the emergency department or waiting area in order to comply with HIPAA and to show general consideration for those in the waiting room. I hope you never need to go there, but if you do, you'll definitely be in good hands.

We were particularly impressed with Dr Sim, who helped us with the hard decisions. The physical therapists are the best I've ever encountered, and the rest of the staff was compassionate and hard working. There were a few frustrations that could use work. Most of the food was awful and all of the portions were ridiculously small. The coffee was even worse, and no matter what they told me there was NO caffeine in it. They also made no effort to furnish something I needed in a size that fit, opting for something four sizes too big. My room in the short stay wing had a lovely view and I had opportunities to be accompanied outside, which made the experience more tolerable.

Unlike many places, they offer same day appointments and have an urgent care clinic. The hours are wonderful and it makes it easy to get there after hours, weekends, or during the day. I've been very happy coming here since August. They offer a lot of services and have been great with calls if I have questions.

I work…read moreclosely with pre-op & surgical services, I see a confusing & disjointed flow from both the patient & employee perspective. But at NM Surgery Center, I didn't get that feeling. My pre surgery contact was nothing less than professional. I received calls and texts reminding me of appts. Preop screening was done over the phone -saving me a trip. Billing called the day before to remind me to bring: insurance cards, ID, etc & what my copay On the day of surgery the registration office was in the same room - no trekking all over the hospital looking for offices. Once I signed in I received a text when registration was ready for me, the nurse text me that she would be out shortly etc. My wife & I were brought back to the preop area and prepped quickly allowing each provider plenty of uninterrupted time to talk with me. Each step in the process was fully explained so there would be no surprises. My wife was able to follow my progress via text . The recovery room stay was quick - within an hour of coming out of surgery I was in the car and on my way home. Everyone I came into contact with was professional, knowledgeable and enjoyed their job. As a surprise I received a get well card in the mail. It was signed by the surgeon, nurses & the anesthetist involved in my care. Truly a professional experience. If you w to are having a day surgery and this place is an option you'd be foolish to go elsewhere. The other hospitals in Albuquerque could learn something here.

I originally went there with my friend to get IV's, then they talked us into getting a monthly subscription. That then built up to doing hormone replacement and a Dutch test. My husband and I each got a program with them. We spent a lot of money on the programs and we customized it to IVs, shots and medication. They ended up delivering my husband's medication to his ex wife's house (talk about a HIPPA and privacy violation) and causing some unnecessary drama. Then when I went in for my NAD+ infusion IVs they gave me the wrong dosage. The old owner (Dr. Cox's) husband realized the error when I was checking out and apologized and told me that they would make it right and give me a free push bag for after the NAD+ infusion. I called a few months later to make my appt and had to wait 2 1/2 weeks for them to get back to me to tell me that they couldn't find anything in my notes to indicate that I was given the wrong dose. Then they said that they will call the new owner Kat to see if she'll validate what was promised. I had to wait another 2 weeks for them to tell me that she won't give me the push bag that I would have to pay for it ($200). I called to see what changed and why they wouldn't give me what was promised since it was an error on their part. They ended up getting back to me and 1 1/2 week later to tell me that Kat said it had been too long and since the program was over a year ago, she will not honor what was promised. The new owner of Vessel Longevity should be contractually bound (by the contract I signed) to honor what was promised and what I paid for...even more so, when the negligence of her staff gave me the wrong dosage.

Most of the larger hospitals around town have a 6mo or more wait to get an appointment. The medical assistant that helped initially was very welcoming and made me feel comfortable at my appointment. Kim was very thorough during my physical and treated me as a patient and not a number. I had a few medical concerns that we addressed together so Kim and I created a game plan to help me with those. She also gave me undivided attention during my appointment. She wasn't in a rush, or make me feel like all of my questions were a burden to her. I'm glad I established myself there. It's also very convenient since I live in Northern Rio Rancho!

I've always had my prescriptions filled for one year for the meds I'm on. When you run out and they can't get you in for 2 weeks, guess what? They still won't fill them. BEWARE
