Jason from Main Care Energy had the nerve (or was dumb enough) to send me this message: "After showing the photos regarding your storage tanks to my brother (he does the installations), he had a suggestion. He did not think there was enough room for him to install in the same location. Due to height restrictions and duct work etc." Instead he suggested a far more expensive option. You know how people write, "if I could give them zero stars, I would"? How about negative stars? Main-Care came out to my house to do their service plan inspection. The inspection report, "Work Performed: Service Appointment Confirmed - Arrived on site, went to Basement,Cleaned burner tubed,heat Exchanger,blower wheel,and Blower Motor,checked Operation, work flow on tablet." That's a quote. It turns out, they lied. They came but never performed the inspection. Read on!! The next time I was there, I found myself getting drowsy. Smoke was coming out the furnace exhaust outside the house. Main-Care's techs came back 4 times...one said that the exhaust was disconnected in the basement and he was feeling "woozy". One said that he could not replicate the issue (even though the neighbors could smell it from 20 feet away, the final repairman said that I needed a brand new heat exchanger and furnace. I hired an independent HVAC contractor to review the Main-Care's work and inspection report. They warned that it was unsafe for me to be in my house when the furnace was operating. That's when we learned thatMain-Care had lied about having done the inspection. The furnace was completely corroded. Main-Care acknowledged this and said that the techs were reprimanded. Main-Care said they would install a new furnace, and they gave me the model # and serial #. Both were incorrect, (they left out a digit in one and added an extra in the other) and they misspelled the name of the new unit. They took the money I had paid for my fuel price protection plan to pay for the furnace. After Main-Care installed the new furnace, I rehired the same HVAC company to inspect their work. Most of the issues they found were cosmetic, but some could have caused significant problems. When I confronted a Main-Care rep with this information, they stated that they take the opinions of their competitors "with a grain of salt", because the competitors are simply trying to "secure your business." I reminded them that these alleged competitors do not provide propane. They finally agreed to return and make some adjustments. They kept my neighbor, who was letting them in, waiting for an hour and a half. After they came to resolve the issues, they capped the duct in the bottom photo, but the ducts in the top 2 photos look the same...chicken wire, and duct tape. When I emailed the photos of the lousy job they had done trying to straighten out the lousy job they had done installing the furnace, they said they wanted to meet with me. read more

Prepaid many $s for all of my fuel fir the year & paid more than $600.00 for a service contract. Going to be very cold this weekend. Called 8:30 am this morning to dee if someone could bring fuel oil or some dry gas. My tank freezes up when it is cold. Was told no one can come until the middle of next week. Main Care Energy has been my go to company for the three buildings I own in Albany, New York. Always happy with the service that I have received. One of the things that matters when dealing with a company is follow-up. I had an issue with the codes, and the service manager that I worked with went way above and beyond the call of duty to help me through this difficult process. At the end, Main Care did not charge me anything for the work and time. I strongly recommend this company... They have never let me down! read more

I've used main care for my apartments for 10 years. They recently hired a new salesman Scott Rockwell. Who basically gave me a one-week notice before they picked all 7 tanks on Halloween leaving all my tenants without heat. There are much better propane companies out there if you're looking. Stay away from Main-Care Energy! Gregory, I think you need to recheck your information. I've talked to a few of the tenants who said they've been ordering right along and their accounts are in good standing. I've been a loyal customer for 10 years and now all my tenants are without heat right before the first cold weather spell. If there was a tenant that wasn't ordering since 2019 why would you wait until right before winter 4 years later? Main Care has been buying out local mom-and-pop providers which has stretched them too thin to provide the same level of service they used to. That's why the have a 1.9 rating and they'll probably be out of business in a few short years. Jump ship while you can. read more

My experience with Main-care was poor. The one issue (of many) was that a furnace repair person came to my house because the furnace wasnt working. He diagnosed the problem and told me my tank was empty (that was weird because I had checked the guage a couple of days prrior and it was at over ¼ a tank). He blew out the line and ordered oil to be delivered the following day. Well come to find out it was not empty as evidenced by the fact that to fill it it took much less than 275 gals the size of my tank. On top of that Main-Care has too many policies that benefit the company not the consumer. I have switched companies and my new company is much more consumer friendly and considerate. I will be staying away from Main-Care and sticking with John Ray and Sons. I would recommend steering clear of Main-Care. Honestly if their technicians cant read an oil tank guage and they have all of the "agency policies" that are self serving they aren't worth the money we spend on oil. read more

Main care energy came to my house unannounced to pick up my propane tank. They decided to pick it up because I didn't ask for a refill. It's summer so you'd think that's the reason why i didn't contact them for a refill, but whatever. I have cameras around my property and I saw them trying to get in my locked gate!! Then the kicker is after they left my house they parked next door and walked back to my house to see if I was home!!! Really??? I called and complained, but they could careless. They were only concerned about getting the tank. I told them they need to contact me ahead of time. They can't just show up!! And I sent them a message about not needing a refill and her statement to me was you should have called! What's the sense of having an option to message them if they don't pay attention to it?? I have a whole house contract for my furnance, a/c and hot water tank. My hot water tank had a leak due to corrosion in the hot water return line, keep in mind less than a month ago they came and did service on the hot water tank, which i asked for a quote to replacing it and was told the unit is good for many years. So now i have no hot water and I'm being told the ealiest they can get to replacing the hot water tank is August 3rd. I was told that this delay was not due to equipment availability but they are booked with service calls. customer Service representative was smug and arrogant. This is not a company that I would recommend partnering with, so much for getting preferred treatment even with a whole house service contract. The absolute worst. I was up at 1am because they didn't deliver oil while we were supposed to be on an automatic deliver program- my phone rings and my tenant has NO heat. "Oh- I'm sorry- we missed that it was auto delivery...." Oh yea, I love to stand around in the cold waiting for an emergency tech at 1am. Let me tell you about the crap job they did "fixing" a boiler that needed a new gasket.....actually, they didn't fix it- they drove away and told me they would get me an estimate- which never came. After posting my initial review I received a follow-up call and email from Main Care's Customer Communications Manager, Laurie G. Fumarola, who was very professional and determined to reach an amicable solution to my situation and ensure I receive the heating service I needed. She followed up with her technician to fix my heating situation and to perform an inspection of my heating unit. The technician informed us that the boiler can continue under the Gold Card Service Plan. In his opinion the unit is operating and should continue to do so for next couple years. Main Care then reversed any prior charges for the service call and reinstated my Gold Service Contract. Mrs. Fumarola greatly apologize for any misunderstanding and a misdiagnosis from previous technician, which I accepted and am happy to say they have retained me as a customer. I hope this type of service continues for years to come and if so, I will continue to be a loyal customer. read more

Main-care came unannounced to remove a FULL propane tank. This was my reserve heating source for emergencies so it's was rarely if ever. Main-care took the tank after I struggled for two hours to find out how I keep the tank, no one could give me an answer. I left two messages to the local manager and never received a call back. The reason for the removal of the tank? Because I don't cycle through propane enough for them to make money off the tank. Shortly after the power went out and sure enough this back up tank was needed. Main-care finalized this blind-siding by telling me they will no longer service our home for the duration of our residency. read more

He said my working unit required rewiring and a new controller, I said OK, he said he was finished, and left with the unit in a non working condition without informing me. The propane was more than a dollar more per gallon than their competitors and when I called to switch they charged me a $139.00 restocking fee for a small tank. I had a tank of my own, but they insisted I use theirs, now I have to pay for them to take it away. They are scammers that say they are family and customer owned. Go with another company. read more

Maincare allowed a person to act as an account holder and have propane delivered to another address without the account holder knowing. This went on for 3 years. Now, when trying to have the phone recordings sent so charges can be pressed, out of all people the customer service manager refuses to return calls after promising I'd continue to hear from him. Now he is always either at lunch or in a meeting. It's almost as if they're trying to cover up the fraud that they allowed to happen by withholding the information to protect themselves . I wish I had read all these reviews before I decided to give them a shot. When I needed to have fuel delivered for the first time after purchasing my house last year I contacted Main Care. I was told that before they could deliver I would need to have my tank inspected. This is understandable and I set up an appointment to have this performed. After the inspection, it was determined that I would need a new tank. The service technician performed an "x-ray" of the tank which revealed rust. I was given a quote for $1900 for the tank to be installed. At this time I was not living in the house and realized a few days later I was no longer getting hot water. The furnace, which had only been installed 3 weeks prior, was not operating. Being that I do not do this for a living and the seller had no knowledge of how much fuel was in the tank, I assumed that I had run out of fuel. I immediately called to have the tank installation expedited. After disconnecting the old tank in the basement and installing and filling the new tank outdoors, the technicians began removing the old tank. Upon cutting the top off of the old tank it was revealed that it contained 250 gallons of fuel and the furnace had simply been switched off. The technicians then pumped out a nearly full tank of fuel. It is completely unreasonable to me that they performed such complicated measures of x-raying the tank, but did not bother to check if there was fuel in the tank. Again, this is not what I do for a living, but after repeating this story I'm told that someone should have "sticked" the tank. After this whole debacle I have been getting fuel delivered from a local place and I was informed that I not only paid too much for the tank and installation, but that the new tank was probably unwarranted to begin with. After the installation I immediately called customer service and explained my frustrations. Not only do I feel that I was overcharged for the tank and installation, but I was charged for a full tank of kerosene while a nearly full tank of fuel was removed. I was told to not pay the invoice for the kerosene and that someone would get back to me about a possible credit. I did not get an answer regarding this although one of the customer service reps did call several times to let me know someone was "looking into it." I've called several times after this and the answer was always "I'm sorry. I'll have a manager look at it and get back to you." This is unacceptable. There are many other options for fuel delivery and, in the end, Main Care is still in the customer service business. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere. read more

I've been a Main Care customer for over ten years. I chose them after much research, basing my decision on getting the best costs compared to their competitors. I've found their customer service staff to be consistently helpful and cheerful. I've never called them for repairs. My complaint, however, centers on management. It seems that each year they change their computer and accounting systems. When they do this, they consistently bolix my accounts, resulting in failure to bill me and a pile of accumulated charges needing payment along with late fees. They've also screwed up my budget plans, also resulting in a confusion of accounting. Every time this happens, it means phone calls to get them to straighten things out. If only management could run things more smoothly, Main Care might earn a better reputation. Their customer service reps are great. BUT, I'm tempted to switch to another energy provider if only to avoid these annual accounting screw-ups. read more

We became a customer after Brrr Heating merge with Main Care. We never received a Maintenance contract listing their prices. When we finally got an invoice it was about $150 higher and did not include parts(offer 10%) discount. When I call about not getting contract they sent me a flyer listing maintenance option without any prices. We were a long standing customer of Brrr Heating and were very happy with their personal service. Working with small business has it advantage. I've been with this company over 10 years buying propane from them I don't understand the bad reviews They have always been great to deal with. The delivery guys are good considering I have a 900 foot driveway that's not always cleared out. I'm in the process of selling my home and they have prorated my tank of propane and sending the value to my lawyer. With no problems. A lady named Nancy from the office has been wonderful to work with. I think it's a small employee owned company. I've called them all times of Day and night and I talk to a real person. read more

We have been customers of Main Care for about 15 years. We opt for the Gold Plan, budgeted , and have been glad to have both that protection and the service that comes with it. The tune-ups have occasionally needed return trips for "more tuning", and we sometimes have to remind the scheduler that we prefer to have our AC tuned in early summer separate from the furnace done in the fall, but any time we have had needs or questions, the response has been timely. Do we live in a perfect world where there are never any problems? No, but all things considered we are very satisfied with Main Care. read more

I've been a customer with Main Care for years. I'm not sure what's going on there but lately they are lacking in their customer service. I've called three times to find out when they will be delivering fuel as we are now below a 1/4 of a tank of oil. First time I called, I was told that a ticket was out for a delivery the next day, but because we were expecting snow that they might not make it. I said fine and asked if they would come the following Monday. The rep. Couldn't tell me for sure what day, but it would be sometime the following week. I called on Monday to see if they could tell me if they would be delivering that day as we were below a 1/4, and I was told that she would call down and let them know. Called back Monday around 4:30 as they didn't show up and asked if they had any idea when a delivery was going to be made so we didn't run out. Was told not to worry that if we did they would come and deliver us 10 gallons until the actual delivery! They also couldn't tell us when a delivery was going to be made, just that the ticket was out with the driver! I received a message on my phone yesterday that stated they would be delivering today(11/21)...did not show up again! Tomorrow is Thanksgiving so I doubt it will be then and with the temperatures being so cold our furnace is running quite a bit. It truly amazes me that they can not let you know when a delivery is going to be made. Just keep this is mind when you are looking for a company that cares about their customers because from Main Care's actions I don't think they do. TERRIBLE! I'm currently a customer living in an apartment where Main-Care Energy unfortunately provides the propane. We are still in our first year of living here (our first fall/winter) and right from the beginning we could tell their business practices were not only really shady but do not make any sense. From the start they told me I only qualified to be a pre-paid customer, which means I can only receive propane after I pay for it. Over the summer they kept calling me and falsely telling me that my propane was low and trying to make me pay for them to come. The propane was not low. I paid for our 100 gallon tank filled right before the temperature dropped (beginning of October) and they forgot or just decided they weren't going to do it even though I already paid. After I had to call them again, a little over a week after I pre-paid, they finally sent someone out two days later... two... days... later. Since, then they send people to check the gauge on the tank but don't bother to call or share the information, so in order for me to know how much there is I have to go out and check for myself. I've never had to do this with other companies, I've always gotten a call when it has been low or they come and fill it and charge me after. Not realizing how low it had gotten, I called to order and pre-pay for more propane and was waiting the 5 business days. It has been 3 business days and 2 weekend days. Getting nervous, I called to see if there was any way I could get some kind of time-frame (before or after Thanksgiving) and they couldn't tell me. I really, truly do not understand why there was absolutely no possible way they could inform me. How do they not know when their customers will be serviced? What kind of business practice is this? I understand maybe not having a time frame but not even being able to tell me if they are getting to me on a certain day is ridiculous. They told me the only way to make sure I'll be getting the oil before is to pay for the 24 hour fee, which I did. We'll see if they even bother to show up today. We tried to switch companies when we first moved in because we didn't trust them and our landlord was open to that but we have to do the research and get the other people in the building on board with switching as well. Main-Care told us there was $125 fee for them to come and take our tanks if we switched. For these reasons, we didn't switch when we first moved in and we tried to stick it out thinking maybe they wouldn't be so bad. We are seriously regretting that decision! I decided to give them a try for propane only and wait to price shop around for oil. Few months go by, no problems with the delivery of propane at all. Then all of a sudden I come home to a full tank of oil and a huge bill. I called and reminded them that I never signed up for oil. I was told that since the previous owners were on automatic delivery for oil and even though they suspended their service, that I was automatically signed up for oil service too. You can imagine my surprise. After explaining that I never requested or authorized oil, I was told that it didn't matter, they cannot pump out oil and I had to pay the bill. After 15 minutes of being spoken to like I am a child, I decided enough was enough and I am currently waiting for a more senior level manager to return my call. But once again they let the tank run dry. I crank up the portable electric heaters and try to warm up the house while I sit under two blankets. I swear it's just like living in an Eastern Bloc country. What do you have to do to get fuel delivery? Slip the scheduler $50 bucks under the table? Last time I called them it took 6 hours for some guy to show up with 10 gallons of fuel. Then to boot they couldn't get a delivery truck here the next day so the same tech delivered me another 10 gallons to get me through the second night. Don't bother, find someone else. Their fuel prices are high. I'm with Galway Fuel Coop and pay a full dollar less per gallon for the past 3 years. I signed up for a service account only with Main Care. The representative had no problem setting up a service only account. They even came out on Oct 16th, and now we need help with water heater, and they tell me the account is closed because we don't get fuel from them. This was done without any notice to us. Funny, we've had a service account for over 3 years and now its closed by Main Care. Went looking for a plumber and found Will's Heating & Cooling, Copake, NY. ( He works in a 75 mile area) My employer in Hudson who owns several rental buildings uses Will's without a problem. Today he certainly helped us out of an emergency, promptly fixed the heater and advised it was due to a dirty valve and lose connection thing ( i forget the terms) said he cleaned it, fixed what needed to be fixed and its done. I asked what shape the heater was in and he advised its in great shape instead of trying to sell me something. So now inexpensive propane from Galway Fuel Coop and service from an independent plumber. Very happy. read more

As previous reviewers mention, they are a dishonest and unscrupulous company with terrible customer service. After more than 35 years as a customer they've forced me to make an emergency, mid-winter switch to another supplier. Three days before Christmas, 2014, we ran out of fuel oil, after not having received a delivery in almost three months. When I called they told me this was impossible based off of my 2013 rate of consumption, even though that year had averaged 15-20 degrees warmer. It was over twelve hours before they managed to get me a tank of oil. If not for our wood stove I don't know what we would have done. Somewhere in the middle of all that they also managed to close my account, and then wanted to run a credit check to open a new one. They ultimately reactivated the account. As we had been their customer for so long without issue, I accepted this all and moved on. Fast-forward to fall 2015. After our September delivery I decided, at almost 70, that I'm too old to continue cleaning and maintaining the boiler myself (I was an auto mechanic for over 30 years) I called them and scheduled a preliminary cleaning for November and asked about a service contract. The tech gets here, doesn't even look at the boiler, and tells me they can't cover anything until we replace the oil tank, the fill and vent pipes, and the fuel line. I called service to verify, and was essentially told if they tell people that's a possibility up front it tends to scare them off. I confirmed that I could still get regular deliveries if I got the furnace serviced by a third party (Crisafulli Bros did the service after just checking the tank for leaks) Fast forward again to this week. I haven't had a fuel delivery since September and the tank is getting low. I call to see if there was a dispatch error and was told that they "assumed (I) didn't want oil anymore," even after I CONFIRMED that I could still get oil. Furthermore, they refused to resume delivery until they sent someone out to inspect anything. Even if the new provider has to replace any or all of the components, at least I won't be giving another penny to these incompetent, unprofessional shuysters. read more

Main Care energy is horrible, they took our propane tank because they thought it was abandoned because of low usage. I can't cook, or do my laundry (we have a gas dryer) They refuse to replace it and accused my husband of lying to them when he explained that we only have 3 people in our house now so our usage has gone down. Oh and not to mention there was still propane in the tank that we paid for, so they stole it from us and they refuse to reimburse us. they also had the wrong contact info. so instead of leaving a door tag, they came when we weren't home and just took the tank.
