I've been coming here ever since I was a kid with my parents and recently revisited. The owner is a lovely lady who is very kind to all her customers and will always have a wonderful conversation with you. It's really great to see a mom and pop place thriving after so many years still! My mom always gets the #6 which is a bagel with turkey and plenty of fresh yummy veggies. I go for their Lox bagel that's packed with salmon. They also have a selection of fresh fruits and chips for purchase. This location is the best Main St. Bagels I've tried and I'm always bummed out that I live so far from it now. It was just OK! Not a bad breakfast bagel sandwich, but not one that I'd go out of my way for. I stopped by Main Street Bagels to grab breakfast before heading out for a road trip. The shop is pretty straightforward - your regular bagel shop. You can see the display of bagels as you enter and you can browse their menu of breakfast items. They also have fridges full of drinks (juices, sodas, etc) and some cream cheese options if you'd like to take some to go. I went for the bagel bacon and cheese sandwich. Like I said, good, but nothing special. Definitely a filling meal for an okay price but also one that you can make yourself at home if you have the time. But of course, you're coming here for convenience, right? I'd come back but next time, I'd probably just get a bagel on its own with some cream cheese instead of a sandwich. Service was quick even as more folks were filling the shop. They get the sandwiches out efficiently and you can pick up your drink or coffee on your own. This place was sold recently. Long time customers will definitely notice changes here, and not necessarily for the better. Bagels are more chewy and they tend to run out of the most popular ones. They have yet to figure out how to keep the shelves stocked on busier days. If you like your bagel toasted, you'll have to ask them to keep it in the toaster longer. Some of the old menu items have simply disappeared. The old staff could be cranky at times but they still made better food! If you're a new customer, you'll probably appreciate the cleanliness of the space and the cheery service. That's why I still give them two stars - but previously they were 4-star, IMHO. If you compare the product today to that of the former owner, I bet you'll agree that things have gone downhill. Still love them to this day ! My last review is still accurate! They can get busy and run out of all the yummy bagels they have to offer so I'd call ahead of time to see what they have available. You can still buy the cream cheese they use for home . I'm never disappointed with my food even tho sometimes customer service can be tricky due to language barriers . I'd still recommend them for bagels in the San Leandro / Oakland area . They have seating inside as well I don't think I ever mentioned that . This place gets so packed!! Even on the weekdays. The line is out the door. Street parking only and it gets so full. Luckily people are in and out. Best to order ahead but you still have to stand in the ridiculous line to pay. Calling in you also have an advantage of having your flavor bagels. This places sells out quick! We really enjoy their Asiago bagels here. They load up on the spread which we love. We often just grab a dozen and freeze them too! read more

Anytime Im visiting my long distance boyfriend, we make sure to stop here for a quick breakfast at least once! The cinnamon crunch is my favorite! I always get cream cheese and crispy bacon and its delicious, perfect combo of sweet with a little savory from the bacon. I also love any of their cinnamon crunch bagel variations! Under new ownership and new, reduced menu. Not that that should have impacted me, considering I get bagel dogs and croissant sandwiches. But it did, since the flavor of the bagel dogs is completely different, more bouncy, and when toasted, it isn't toasted right. As in, I see them microwave it and toss it in the rolling toaster, but it always, always comes out cold in the center. I've asked twice to have it reheated, but after four cold ones on four separate occasions, I don't think I'll be back for like a year, because it has sort of ruined my morning enough times when I grab and go to be in my car and spit out a cold glizzy or ham and cheese croissant. Again, I want to emphasize, they will listen and reheat it when you ask, which is great, I just don't think I should have to after four separate occasions with this happening. And it's a complete subversion of expectations to keep the same Yelp page up, since it's technically a new business. read more

I've been coming to Main Street Bagels for the past 5+ years and can say that they've successfully satisfied my cravings every.. single.. time. The bagels are very consistent -- chewy, crunchy, perfect amount of softness. I've had multiple different bagels here and they're all fantastic. It appears that the bagel shop is family owned and I've seen reviews that their service isn't the best but I haven't had issues. The employees work very fast pace, considering how busy they usually are, I don't mind the service. They aren't rude at all, just more straight to the point trying to get you your order and go. I'm hooked on the #4 which is the nova lox, cream cheese and red onion combo (yes I remove everything else.) I've tried it on an everything bagel, onion bagel, poppy seed bagel, garlic bagel, spinach parm bagel, Asiago bagel, jalepeno cheese bagel and it's 5/5 every time. I've also had their humongous ham & cheese croissants and #s 1-3. There is indoor and outdoor seating but it's a 10 minute meal at most so not many dine in, at least I know I don't. I've tried lox and combination bagels elsewhere before but can say hands down, Main Street Bagels is my all time favorite. This used to be a fantastic bagel shop. I'm not sure if they got new owners, new bakers, or new employees but the quality has declined significantly. The shop removed several items off of the menu such as a pizza bagel. Additionally, there are fewer toppings on the flavored speciality bagels. The cinnamon crunch, the Asiago cheese, and the seeded bagels used to feature a fair amount of toppings. Now the add-ins on specialty bagels are sparse and barely there. I hope they can go back to the former quality instead of making bagels smaller with fewer add-ins. I also have to point out that the baking quality isn't the same. Many of the bagels seem over baked and almost burnt. I still gave a two star rating because the shop is clean and the employees are polite. The older lady that works here is rude. I ordered a bagel with extra cream cheese, in which I had before with no problem, and she gon say it's a $3.99 charge fee to add extra cream cheese on the bagel! I ordered a bacon, lettuce and tomato cream cheese on a bagel. I was charged $13. At first, I had no problem with this thinking that I would receive $13 worth of food however I was sorely mistaken. I was given a hard and flavorful bagel two pieces of shriveled bacon what seemed to be like a whole tomato a small piece of lettuce and little cream cheese. I had to open the bag to make sure it was there. I was extremely disappointed, too far away to go back for a refund. I should've known something was up when I saw how dirty the restaurant was. Under new management, the Main Street Bagel shop in San Leandro has been changed to Hometown Bagel. I have been going there for many years and ordering my two bagels toasted. I was away on vacation and when I went in to the shop, I noticed changes to the menu board and that they opened up the seating area. I ordered the bagels and it was $4.50 (.50 cents lower than the previous owner which was nice). When I returned on my second visit this week, the price was the same but they tacked on .75 cents for toasting each bagel, increasing the total price for two bagels from $4.50 to $6.00 plus tax it came to $6.16. What is that all about, I was totally surprised!. I don't mind paying a little bit more, but .75 cents additional for toasting (nothing on it just a toasted bagel)! Think twice before going there. read more

Our order: - 2 regular bagels with cream cheese - salmon lox bagel on asiago without onions Pros: - large assortment of bagels, tons to choose from - they sell schmear (in fridge in the side room) that you can pick up, all the regular flavors as well as unique ones (blueberry, strawberry, onion/herb, you name it) - Better than places like Noah's - Decent prices (my salmon lox bagel was pretty hefty, I would say it was 80% of a full lunch and it was perfect for me to eat right before going on a hike if we plan on getting real lunch after) - Fresh bagels, fresh ingredients - lox was delicious Cons: - I usually give places 5 stars if they rock it in all the following categories: 1) efficiency, 2) service, 3) quality of food, 4) price for quantity/quality, 5) vibes - which hasn't mattered as much due to covid. My ratings here would be better but for the logistics. I called in my order - just two sandwiches, and they said it'd be ready in 5 minutes. When I got there, I waited in the normal line (which was long) instead of a separate line because it was not clear if there was a separate line. Then, when I got to the front (after like 10 min) another dude who apparently ordered on the phone just goes to the front of the line and says he's there to pick up his sandwich. Oddly enough, his sandwich was done but mine was not. They said it was because the everything bagels just came out of the oven, but I don't think that was true because it wasn't warm. The bagels here were fine. The cheese bagel we had was fresh and still warm so that was great. The everything bagel had too much going on with many spices on the bagel but not enough bread. The cheese bagel was good because it just got out of the oven. The lox bagel had way too many things in it (cucumber, onion, capers, and tomato? Weird). Bacon, egg and cheese bagel on everything was pretty good since the bagels did not taste microwaved. But to spend 20 min to pick up my order even when I called was pretty ridiculous. I want to love this place because its local and easy to get to - but the cons: in the 2x I've visited I've never seen any employees wash their hands, or change gloves even between working the register & preparing food. Or between walking away from the line to to cough. When I went to get a drink I noticed that the milk was all 5 days past the use by date. Main Street bagels is a classic bagel shop in the city of San Leandro right next to the 580 highway. My friend lives nearby, so he pointed it out on the way back home from a round of golf. He treated me to some bagels as a form of payment for the ride. Man what a form of payment!, I felt like a spoiled Uber driver. The bagel selections are pretty extensive. They make homemade bagel dogs that have plenty of sausage sticking out of the buns. They have several sandwich selections as well as bagel pizzas. I went with the classic bacon egg and cheese sandwich, and ordered a jalapeño bagel with cream cheese for my wife. The bagels were great, they have a large drink selection and chips if you want to have lunch. My friend said he's been going here for years, and I can see why it seems to attracts many of the locals. It's convenient to stop by Main Street bagels for weekend breakfast, and if you like Starbucks, its next-door for your convenience. A San Leandro breakfast institution. They cute Asian family that runs the shop has their process down, as the line can get long, and they couldn't be anymore sweet and kind. My favorite item is their everything bagel -- my family loves their large plain croissant which is more "bready" than a typical croissant. Everything is made the night before and they sell day old bagels at discount at the front. Get there early, when they sell out you need to wait until the next day. So I came here and ordered an egg bagel with egg Regular cheese turkey and cream cheese and a hot tea. so I asked the young lady if the turkey was turkey sausage or patty she said just regular sausage. Soo it wasn't busy but they were rushing rushing. So I got my order when I got home sooo first off there is no cheese and the "turkey" sausage is actually lunch meat turkey. Wth. This place gets packed! Weekday or weekend. Doesn't matter, there's always a line. It's a family run business, it's pretty fast paced, so as soon as you walk in be ready to order because they take your order before you pay, so by the time you're ready to pay, your food is ready. Which I really like! But I don't like to feel rushed. Their bacon, egg & cheese bagels are heaven! Especially on the "everything bagel" so yum! I usually get a jalapeño & cheddar bagel with cream cheese at posh bagel, so I decided to try it here because I wasn't feeling like bacon or eggs. That was a total miss. Which is why I take a star off. The jalapeño cheddar bagel didn't even have jalapeños, it was weird then the cream cheese they barely put any on and it was nasty!! The taste was just gross. I always get a #1 on Poppy seed (don't hold no truck with newfangled flavors like jalapeño) and a French Roast coffee. 4/13/22 Dumb landlord tore down back porch (was a nice place to sit down with friends and have breakfast) and left just a walkway. 4/20 They've added two small tables on the remnants of the porch. First of all I can say without any doubt that these bagels are great. They're perfectly chewy and closer to a NY style bagel than most places are around here. My husband and I both got breakfast sandwiches (egg, bacon, cheese) on plain for me, spinach Parmesan for hubs. We both enjoyed them thoroughly, but just wished it was a bit cheesier. They cooked the cheese in the egg so it kind of gets lost, but it does help the sandwich stay together so I get it. Hubs added a slice of cheese when we got home and declared it perfect. I also got the blueberry crunch bagel with strawberry cream cheese as a kind of dessert after our bagel 'wich. Yum!! I'll probably always do this. As for the shop itself, it's quite small, with a small patio in the back with limited seating. This is more so a to-go situation. Also, I couldn't help but notice that the shop could use a deep cleaning. It doesn't effect the food so not a huge issue. As for the service, it's very friendly and as organized as it can be considering the limited space they have to make sandwiches. The workers were constantly having to move around each other to build orders. I suspect there could be some way of being more efficient but they do the best they can. All in all, these are the best bagels around me that I've found so far, and I'll definitely make it my mission to come here before anywhere else when I'm wanting bagels. read more
