As Kneaded is such a gem to have nearby: it reminds me of the corner bakeries I used to frequent in Europe in terms of its quality and freshness. Iliana is a bread alchemist: her rustic breads, pastries, and seasonal items never fail to disappoint. I love the baguette and pain d'epi for charcuterie boards, the seasonal flavored focaccia slabs for a savory breakfast or companion to soups, and the rustic loaves such as the honey oatmeal rye or sesame miche for sandwiches and avocado toast. It's always hard to choose when it comes to the pastries, but my favorites are the banana walnut teacake, the cardamom knot, and any of the croissant items. Also: the pretzel is the closest I've found to the ones I enjoyed when living in northern Germany--try it with butter and a sharp gouda or cheddar. When in doubt about what to order, ask one of the bakery employees, who are super friendly and always have a good opinion on which breads turned out particularly tasty that day! read more

The bakery is still great. I was a little sad that they were out of the bostock but that's what I get for coming at 12 on Saturday I guess. I did get a sticky bun which I've never ordered before and it was pretty good. The gal who was working the counter was really nice and it's a cool ambience inside. As my wife was taking care of some errand with her mom at the bank, she said I should explore, and I stumbled upon As Kneaded Bakery. I had seen that my friend, Lee D, had visited it before, so I decided to check them out. A nice tiny bakery. There was a small line around 9AM. Their display case was filled with their baked goodies. I wanted to try them all but settled on a couple of things. Ginger Molasses Cookie (4/5) - so soft, chewy, and flavorful. This was pretty good. I'd get this again. Cream & Currant Scone (4/5) - A bit on the dry side as expected but once it was toasted up, and added some butter, my wife said, it was pretty good! My wife loves scones. The service was sweet and welcoming. They really were efficient and moved the line along so the wait was minimal. No place to sit, so it was a grab and go place. I've discovered this place via the too good to go app. Their bread and pastries are so delicious. So far my favorite thing is the ginger molasses cookie. It is ginormous is so freaking good! It was hard to share. I could eat the whole thing in one sitting. Their focaccia bread we got in our surprise bag is so good. We've been using it for work lunches. Or just to nibble on while getting dinner ready. If you try anything those two items are excellent choices. read more

So happy As Kneaded Bakery has been thriving in my neighborhood and they are here to stay. They have expanded there hours and love the added a display case and counter inside. This visit we had the raisin snail, cardamom swirl for breakfast and a Honey Rye Porridge sourdough bread for later. As expected the pastries were fresh, flaky and perfect with my morning coffee. BTW, we travel with an extra plastic bag because your breads are soaked in olive oil, maybe part of the reason it tastes so good as it stays moist. But our first experience almost ruined our car. Since my daughter is on vacation in LA, I did not buy her the usual cookies that she loves from here. Atmosphere - LOL. The first time we have been inside. Cool. See pictures. I believe it was the owner that helped me the day I went, she was so so welcoming and knowledgeable on the breads there was to offer. Everything smelled so yummy and freshly baked. I came here looking for bagels. The place is near residential housing on a not so busy street on a Sunday morning. Inside you can see the work area with many ovens. There is a small display with sweet and savory pastries. The wait was short. I didn't find any bagels but they had many other bread and pastry options. One of my favorite bread bakeries in the SF Bay Area. Their loaves have nice color and good moisture in the crumb. My favorites are the Honey Porridge and Sunflower loaves. Got to go back and try the bakery out on a Sunday. The croissants are delicious. I had a butter one and also an almond one. The almond croissant had a little too thick of almond paste filling making it a little too sweet for my taste. Also, had their mortadella focaccia sandwich. So delicious! Excellent pastries - tried the almond croissant and the raspberry almond bostock. Very fresh and well made. They don't serve coffee, and don't have restrooms or seating inside. But there's a nice grassy area & benches outside that are perfect for inhaling those perfectly flaky treats. read more

We typically come to pick up a too-good-to-go bag from them. I love that they participate in this to reduce food waste. We love their loaves of bread, they have one in particular that has dried berries like cranberries and it's amazing. Reminds you of a cinnamon raisin toast. My criteria for five stars is if I'd drive way out my way to patronize a joint. And yes, I drive from north oakland to _As Kneaded_ to get our weekly boule even though Acme is much closer. Never had a bad loaf with As Kneaded. The breads are both nutritious and yummy. Perfect with some butter and jam -- or even just as they are. Dense but not too dense if you know what I mean. And yeah. They're a bit pricey but breakfast is important. My daily bread from As Kneaded is just what I need for to kick start my morning. Service is fine. A friend told me about an app called, "too good to go" while at the gym. I downloaded it while getting a massage. Next thing you know, I was able to purchase right away. Ever since then, this has been one of my favorite and the only place I have ever used the app. It was a great experience with the app and the staff are always kind and explains what I'm getting. Small hidden gem tucked in a little roundabout serving some fresh artisan bread and pastries. Park right outside the shop within the roundabout (free parking). Menu is listed on the stand outside and it's quite extensive so take your time (take a pic so you can browse and have it handy when placing your order). They take your order at the door where you will also pay. Their collection of loaves are exquisite - they have beautiful crumb and are well hydrated. They don't have a slicer so be prepared to eat it straight from the loaf or take it home and slice it to your desired thickness. If you're a bread lover, you may get overwhelmed with the racks of bread and pastry inside and the many choices you'll have. It was difficult but we ended up narrowing down our choices for the first visit. Honey porridge rye - this is one of their signatures. Get this! It is good; tastes a bit tangy like a traditional sourdough. Zucchini focaccia - refreshing taste of summer. It's a bit on the oily side but it holds up well and is loaded with zucchini, cheese and pine nuts. Ham and cheese danish - delicious and seems like a nice snack, perhaps a popular one among the patrons. Triple chocolate cookie - has a nice crisp on the edge but moist center like a brownie. Get chocolate wasted with this! Pastrami Sandwich - is so small! 12 bucks is steep for a little bun and a few slices of pastrami and a small smear of coleslaw. I'd skip this to avoid being disappointed. Will need to try the miche next time. Seems like another one of their signature loaves. Given that it's relatively close to the Oakland Zoo, will be sure to swing by on our next morning visit (the bakery closes early, at 3 so plan ahead). Overall, great loaves and pastries out of this neighborhood bakery. If you have the pleasure to being in the area, definitely swing by and bring a loaf home. If you're on the other side of the bay, check out their partners and grab some of their goodies there. But nothing beats being at the shop, surrounded by all the fresh baked good, just waiting for your salivating tastebuds to experience the dough. Everything here is great. You literally can't go wrong! Especially yummy is whatever bostock or cookies that have on any given day. The full loaves also never disappoint. So I went again the following Saturday morning assuming maybe because I came closer to closing time and she was stressed but it was the same thing. Found this place thru the TooGoodToGo app, where you get smoking deals if you're able to reserve for pick up at the end of the day. While I was there picking up my good deal, I saw a few thing that looks good. I got the Blueberry Walnut Maple Bostock and 2 oatmeal raisin cookies. Both of the cookies was bake perfectly, and still nice and soft. The bostock was perfect as well with the outer edges a little crunchy with a perfect amount of walnuts, blueberry and maple. The best bakery in the East Bay. I actually think their bread is BETTER than Acme. Try their spelt walnut sourdough or flax sunflower sourdough. Nothing else like it in the Bar Area. They could win gold medals if entered into contests. Their pastries are creative, different than the normal as absolutely delicious. I came here for the very first time today, FINALLY. I'm so glad that I did! It was the perfect sunny day to go and grab some delicious pastries. My son wanted a croissant for breakfast. Note that As Kneaded sells their croissants AFTER 10 am. We ended up arriving at the bakery before 10 am. Even though croissants weren't available at the time, the staff recommended a chocolate chip brioche; my son DEVOURED it on the way home from the bakery. And I...INDULGED in their triple chocolate chip cookie. It was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and SO delicious while satisfying my craving for chocolate. What an absolute luxury to have a bakery like this close to my friend's place. We went for the first time and we're greeted by the owner who was super friendly and inviting. We got the ham and cheese, focaccia, blueberry, and chocolate cookie. All were exquisite. She really knows what she's doing. It's obviously possible to get good bread from a bigger store but there's something very special about being able to purchase items directly from the person who makes them. You feel like you're really participating in a community merchant who's extremely passionate about her craft. I wish her much success but hopefully she doesn't move away! Everything is quite affordable, fresh, and so tasty. There's still so much I want to try in the future. I highly recommend toasting some of the items for a bit. You can even eat at the park if this place is just a stop and not so convenient. I can't wait to stop by again next time I'm in town. read more

My first time trying their pastries and bread was at the San Mateo farmers market and they quickly because one of my favourite places to visit every Saturday morning.
