Eggplant cutlets are amazing. Everything here is so good, ate the pasta salad for probably three meals, including breakfast.

4th time here so I can be confident in 5 stars. Very reminiscent of a classic southern New England tour Italian market. First time I got their signature sub and it was so amazing hit on every level. During a recent stay in the area, we stayed close to Main Street Market. We were on a group trip and needed some last minute grocery items to round out our menu for the week. As we're walking in and reading the list, calabrian chili peppers comes up. I say out loud, "there's no way this place has calabrian chili peppers." Seconds later a voice rings out, "come over to the next aisle." And sure enough, they have the peppers in both whole and sliced form. Surprise! It's an Italian market. We found just about everything we needed, and then some. Main Street has a full deli, where we bought prosciutto for homemade pizzas, that has a menu of sandwiches. They also have pastries, a meat and cheese section, and fresh meats. We scoped out some frozen seafood like scallops, salmon, and cod too. When you walk in, your first sight is a small produce section. The staff was so friendly. The disembodied voice belongs to the owner, Chris, who was happy to chat with us about food, our activities for the weekend, and our favorite restaurants back in Brooklyn. We ended up going a couple more times over the weekend for odds and ends. They really came through for us. Some items were a little pricey, but it was overall a good experience. read more

This place reminds me of a small little italian market in NYC. Was walking the town and came in with a few friends. First, the place smells amazing. It hits on the general fare of being a small little grocer, with some specialized products. We grabbed a bunch of things, cookies, one of the Meat filled Breads that were freshly done, a sandwich and a few other small things. The cookies, barring we grabbed about 6 different variety, 4 of them were quite delicious, the other two, meh. Unfortunately the sandwich was a letdown, the chicken cutlets that we got were pounded and breaded so thin, that the whole piece of chicken was immensely overcooked, and was almost difficult to eat. Overall, if I was in the area, i'd come here for certain things and be happy to buy em, and just pass on some other things. Worth stopping in though if in the area. read more

In short- Ordered 4 sandwiches the first day- 2 were made entirely wrong. The second time the owner wiped his sweaty forehead with the palm of his hand and then ran his fingers through his hair and made my sandwich without first washing his hands. Also no masks while making our sandwiches and talking loudly probably spraying saliva over the food. Despite it being a mandate to wear masks indoors, there were more than 3 food handlers not wearing a mask including the owner. Also customers were milling about mask-less. Been going to Todaro's since the 90's. Use to be great. the new management is supremely lackluster and grossly unsanitary. The single star is for decent products on the shelves. Deli deserves negative stars. The owner's head sweat sandwiches ... I can't even. read more

Changing hands a few times over the years since my last review, it seems this deli finally landed in the right hands! Clean, friendly staff, great food! Had their eggplant rollatini, their store made roast beef, and handmade mozzarella....all great! A great selection of meats and cheeses, and all your shopping needs when in town. Very close to meeting city standards for a great Italian deli, which is a very rare find in the mountains! Way to go for a real turnaround under new owners! Was searching for breakfast on a Saturday morning around 7:30 am and we found this place to be open. My hubby had a breakfast special (Bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll) which came with coffee and I had a Ham and cheese melt on am everything bagel (they advertised it with a roll, hero, or croissant but I was eyeing the bagel). Totally was SO yummy and hit the spot. Good thing too because we were nearing the phase of unreasonable hunger where someone's feeling was about to get hurt. Also got a ground adapter for a wall plug - they also have a lot of other goods (coffee makers, spatulas, butane lighters, tea kettles) and foods (breads, cookies, tomato sauce, bananas, milk, chips, beer, butter, etc.). Wants to be an import from Brooklyn's 18th Avenue, but is compromised by its backwater, Central NY state geography and sensibility. If you like that sort homogeneity in your Italian deli experience, you will enjoy Todaro's. Let's start with the basics. Todaro's is a local market, first and foremost, so they carry the usual stuff you gotta have if you are setting up house in the mountains -- be it for a few days or weeks or to stock a second home. For us, it is a convenient (if pricey) one stop shop for most any sort of ingredients needed to prepare an authentic Italian meal up here, including a nice selection of imported meats, sausage, cheese, pasta, condiments, produce, spices -- and even the equipment needed to crank out home made pasta. When I am too lazy to drive dozens of miles one way or another to a larger market for supplies, this is where I shop. The prepared food/subs are another matter. For starters, the bread used for their sandwiches - central to any decent salumeria experience - lacks the texture and crunch of great Italian sandwich loaves and eats more like something from Subway or Blimpies, because it is tasteless and gets overly soggy when dressed with oil and vinegar. Great bread would improve the subs by 200%. With all the wonderful regional bakeries available to Todaro's (e.g. Bread Alone, Tivoli) I'm surprised they don't source better. But the quantity and quality of meats and cheese used in the sandwich makes up for this to some extent. The Todaro's Special is the sub to have -- with plenty of quality cold cuts (cappy, salami, ham, provolone, etc.) and a nice selection of toppings (lettuce, tomato, roasted peppers, onions, oil, vinegar/etc) to suit most anyone. I like scarfing down a whole one of these sitting outside the shop on a nice day, with some Italian bitters. They also carry a standard array of cold antipasti that you would expect to find at any decent Italian deli -- nothing startlingly terrific -- but tasty and convenient. Overall - the Todaro's experience is a pleasing old school deli counterpoint to the ongoing gentrification of Windham -- and its influx of gastropub obsessed beardies. read more

Well there is good and bad when it comes to this place. The sausage and other various Italian items they sell there are pretty tasty. My issue comes in when the sandwiches come into play. Myself and some friends went in and we ordered three sandwiches. The sandwiches were about 8 bucks a piece when said and done with tax. I ordered a meatball parm hero and once I started eating it I noticed the meatballs to be dry with no sauce and no cheese. A pretty decent disappointment since it was supposed to be a meatball parm. My buddy got an eggplant parm on a roll and it too had no cheese on it. He did state that the eggplant was good. The third sandwich was a roast beef and mayo on a wrap. There was literally two slices of roast beef on the sandwich. The service was also not very friendly. The only person who was pleasant to us was the owner. The cashier was rude/moody with us as well as the woman that took our order. read more

I know Todaro's is under new management, but it's really sad how they have NOT got things right - like customer service, and satisfaction. I usually go to Chicken Run and get the family meal to go and it's always fabulous. 1whole roast chicken, 2 -12 oz. sides and 2 corn bread $23 is reasonable, but they weren't open Labor Day. I usually tell them to give me a juicy or bit underdone chicken because I'll reheat it when I get home and they're always able to do that!!! I still get a fully cooked chicken!!! I asked for the same thing from Todaro's (under new management and owner),and they told me they had a rotisserie oven, like it's cooked in supermarkets on the rod and the chicken goes round and round and has a brown roasted skin). I ordered 2 chickens for friends coming over and what I received was 2 chickens in a covered aluminum roasting pan with 2 pale chickens sitting in 2" of oil, with onions, celery, and hard carrots. When I said I would be reheating it so give it to me a BIT underdone - like I usually say at Chicken Run, I was thinking 5-10 minutes not having to cook the whole thing for 45 minutes and not getting a rotisserie chicken like you see in all the super markets - the 7 foot high oven where all the chickens are going round and round on the rod getting a crispy skin. What I got was barely cooked braised chicken which they have the nerve to charge double the price because they're "on the mountain top" and think every one up here is either a tourist or rich that they can gouge. They charged $61 for 2 barely cooked braised chickens with a pound of Coleslaw and one pound of macaroni shells. Friends picked it up for me as it was on there way to us, so I didn't know the final price at the time but that's just robbery!! My husband went in a month back to get some deli meat and he said things were so ridiculously done around mid day. He was told he had to stand in line for the cashier to take his order, she then called the order over to the people behind the deli counter, who were making sandwiches. He then waited 20 minutes to get his deli meat order, then had to go back and stand in the line to pay for that in the cashiers line again!! Not a very good system, people were walking out frustrated and didn't have the time to wait that long. My husband said he'll never do that again and now I'm saying I'll never go back to them again. We never had problems like that with the previous owner. Luckily there is a new market opening up. We'll be checking that out! read more

i ordered up a nice weekend full of food for 12 hungry long island guys spending the weekend upstate. I picked up the 3 foot Italian hero, some salads, and a few trays of food. Everything was awesome. The meats and cheeses were all on point, and to top it all off, the bread was amazing. This store used to be one of my favorite places in Windham. It had a great selection, excellent meat counter and lots of character. It pains me to say that since it was sold recently, they have ripped out all of the character that made it a charming salumeria and now it's turning into just a run-down, overpriced grocery/deli. I'm afraid my opinion is shared by many as it rarely ever seems busy these days. In the past, the lines during President's week were long and the store always bustled with full carts. No more. I truly hope the new owners read this post and consider this feedback and what they really want this store to be. The prices are just too high to justify more than a quick emergency shop/milk stop if there is nothing else to pull a customer into the store. read more

Good food is offered here as I am a frequent customer. The prices are a bit on the high side, but I am willing to pay it. It's pretty quaint and fits in with the rest of the town. The inside is a bit cluttered and would be a bit nicer if some useless inventory was cleared. Definitely worth it if you haven't been here before. read more

Last week went in there to order some deli sandwiches after a few bad experiences decided to give them another shot because they were new owners the girl behind the counter and the girl at the cash register were talking about sex the whole time the girl behind the counter can proceeded to take my order and as she was making my sandwiches was scratching her head her fingernails were black she had one glove. up then they proceeded to gossup as she was making my sandwich. In the middle of my order she started texting needless to say she was on my third sandwich when she proceeded to scratch her head I then canceled my order although the place does look better the food Quality is just not there. I'll try calling later on that afternoon and the owner was at market The girl on the phone said he wasn't taking phone calls but I didn't find out that the girl that was making the sandwiches in the deli her name was Terry I will not be walking in there ever again. The sandwiches and prepared foods here are great! I usually get a hero and split it with my friend. Additionally, my parents like to buy the prepared foods for some easy cooking after a long day of skiing. The meatballs and eggplant parm are delicious. The only reason it's not five stars is because we've had a few times where the meatballs either had freezer burn, or did not taste consistent.
