Oddly I was fascinated by my eye exam and the technology. Dr. Richard Young clearly loves what he does! Additionally, he was so friendly and interesting chatting about vision, aging eyes, Peloton instructors and his family. I just picked up my glasses today and am amazed by the difference in my vision. Claudine picked the most gorgeous frames and was so lovely to work with! I often bought sunglasses here because they have a great selection but will go for my annual checkup here from now on. read more

Today, I decided to explore the possibility of getting contact lenses, so I walked into Main St Optometry in Northport and was basically turned away. Why? I had seen my regular ophthalmologist for a comprehensive annual eye exam with dilation just one day earlier. As a result, according to the person who greeted me, they would not provide any services until I agreed to submit to yet ANOTHER complete eye exam beforehand. Seriously? I politely explained that I had just had a "complete" exam yesterday and would not want to be dilated again today (I only needed to be specifically examined/fitted for contacts), and while she agreed that it would not make sense to repeat the entire exam, she nevertheless asserted, "your choice, that's how we do it here!" Naturally, I left. You could have offered to request my recent one-day-old exam records from my Ophthalmic MD, or simply agreed to fit me for contacts, as so many other Optometrist practices are happy to do. I've since made a hassle-free optometrist appointment in the next town, but it is truly unfortunate that my most local practitioner would choose to so quickly turn me away from my own neighborhood without even blinking an eye, rather than take a more thoughtful approach to consider any opportunity whatsoever to invite me -- already standing in your empty office -- to become a new patient. Been coming here since 2003. I actually moved away 6 years ago and still only see him when I'm home visiting family. Dr young and his wife are amazing optometrists. Their staff is always helpful and know me very well. Gabby is amazing with me. Dr. Youngs office is very clean and so is the whole store. The selection of glasses is more than you can ask for. All high end but still very affordable. I am very happy that not matter how long it's been since they have seen me they always remember me and make me feel special when I come in. You can tell they care by how they talk to you and how they help you whenever you need. Come here with any eye or glasses needs. Did I mention they have amazing prescription sunglasses!! read more

I am surprised that no reviews exist yet. If you are style-conscious, this is the place to go. Dr. Young has a great collection of designer frames (Armani, Tom Ford, Gucci, Chanel, Prada, etc.) to choose from, and they are rotated fairly regularly. He also keeps a good selection of "different" frames. If you enjoy being different, I encourage you to check it out. The staff is super friendly, and will work with you for hours while you try on everything in the store (I do this every time I am in there and then actually encourage it). This is important.. glasses are expensive and you do not want to be rushed when trying to find the pair that works best for you. The girls will give you an honest opinion of how each frame looks, and will vote if you require. I appreciate the group consensus, and they do this professionally, so why not let them give input on what looks good. From a medical perspective, they are very sound as well. I have needed glasses my whole life, and I have never seen as well as I do now (when armed with a script from Dr. Young). I am now 20/20 corrected, which is up from somewhere in the neighborhood of 20/200 a short number of years ago. Each year he diligently calibrated my new script, strengthening and adjusting each time to get me where I am now. Frankly, I owe him more then a good review. I will admit they are a little expensive, but for the best service, selection, and medical care you can expect to pay for it. It is on main street in Northport after all. Nothing is cheap. read more

Unpleasant experience here the other day. I went into the store JUST TO LOOK at frames and this is what I told the saleswoman who greeted me. She asked if I had a prescription and I said I did but that I was JUST LOOKING. She asked to see it so I gave it to her. I thought that was reasonable as I wear progressives and she might want to direct me to a certain section, although I know what size frames are required. Next question was if I had vision insurance. I do, and I am well aware of the coverage it provides and I told her this. She asked to see a description of my plan. I had a printout with me as I had just had my annual eye exam elsewhere and that business had given me the printout. I reluctantly gave her the printout, feeling that something here was off and she was being pushy. She took it and called her coworker over asking her to call my plan and get an authorization number! I repeated, for the third time that I was JUST LOOKING and asked if she should be doing that. She said, "It only takes a minute". All this time I was looking at frames. She never inquired about my preferences and didn't help me in any way. I didn't ask for any help and I never gave any indication that I was interested in making a purchase I found nothing to my liking, and thought the frames were overpriced. I left the store and went to another optical shop where I found a pair of frames that I liked and wanted to purchase. When that salesperson went to her computer she asked if I had gotten an authorization number elsewhere because she was "locked out" and couldn't proceed. I had to call my insurance and ask them to release the authorization number so this store could get one and I could complete my purchase! This is not the way things should be done. I gave one star only because there is no option to give none. read more

Great practice. After reading the reviews I felt I had to write a proper review as the people who complained seemed not to understand they were buying a product or contacts that if fit improperly the dr would be accountable for. Some people forget you need an Rx for contacts because you could do damage to your eyes if used improperly... I worked for many years in opthalmology and find Dr Young and staff to be both professional and highly educated in the patients needs. I high;y recccomend them read more

Dr. Vasquez provides the most thorough exam I have ever experienced. She takes the time to explain everything she does and answers all your questions. Buying glasses there is also an enjoyable experience. Professional help and advice are given in a non-pressured way. This operation gets 0 stars from me. I went in here last year to purchase a pair of VERY EXPENSIVE sunglasses. I will spare you the OUTRAGEOUS details of my entire experience, but ... first by the saleswoman, she offered me a discount as an AAA Member as many other businesses and places such as Lens Crafters does when I purchase SUNGLASSES that are not prescription. The the wife's owner came out, in front of me rudely told the saleswoman that I am not to get a discount since I am not a regular customer and not purchasing prescription glasses. (If she only knew - 2 months later I needed prescription glasses, and if she had been a bit more classy about the whole thing, I would have returned). And so the saleswoman, feeling badly, went to this woman's husband who apparently owns the shop, and he told her to give me the discount. Well, it doesn't end there, sadly enough. The owner's wife overheard this, and came out where I was sitting with the saleswoman and began to yell that I am in no way getting that discount. I was absolutely appalled by her disgusting and unprofessional behavior. NEVER EVER would I return here again, and yes I am a resident of Northport. Ironically 2 weeks later I found the sunglasses (Todd's) on sale, the same exact pair - for $200 less than what Main Street Optometry was asking. Also - in shopping around, I realized they were asking the highest price almost anywhere that I could find them ... at least $50.00 higher than everyone else. It was the classless act of the owner's wife that will ever prevent me from stepping foot into this shop again. read more

At first this place looked great. People seemed very friendly and accommodating and it's close to home so it was perfect. When I saw they offered a text message option for appointment reminders it made them perfect...well, perfect is far from what these people are. My husband wanted to get contact lenses for the first time and decided to do it there. He already had a prescription for the lenses and could have purchased them online, which I had recommended (I am a veteran contact wearer and know very well how to do a fitting. They charged $150.00 for the contact lens "fitting" (which just means trying a pair on and seeing if they bother you or move around too much) and the contact lenses. They were supposed to teach him to put the lenses in and take them out within 2 appointments, and after 4 they still had not done so. Their "late" appointments, only offered once a week and at a time not that late, became harder and harder to secure and they started to only be available if he left work early, which he could not do. So he told them he would just teach himself to put the contacts in and out, but they refused to give him the contact lenses, which he had already paid for, saying that they needed to "see him being able to put them in and take them out". He had a prescription for the lenses, and that is all he needed to get them so he got them online like everyone else does, but of course his $150.00 was pocketed by this place. OH, and about the text message appointment reminder, which would have been very convenient, despite us checking the box saying we preferred text messaging they still insisted on always calling instead. Very frustrating considering that if they will not text then why say that is an option? It was a very frustrating experience and they took our money and did not provide the service or product they had promised. They are also very pushy trying to sell eye glasses that we were able to get online for 1/10th of the price. I would not recommend them. read more

This business has the best selection of eyeglass frames that I have ever seen, and I've shopped around a lot! The staff is terrific .. very helpful and really good at selecting appropriate frames for my hard-to-fit face. They are very patient and worked hard to get my fit just right. Also, after a problem I had with the first pair I had selected they remedied it ... no questions asked ("we want you to be happy")... and provided me with a pair that I am very happy with at no extra charge. I was so pleased with their selections of frames that I purchased a second pair as sunglasses. I can't say enough good things about them. Great staff and beautiful products. read more
