Ambiance Main Street Restaurant was a highlight of our weekend getaway to Saugerties. The atmosphere struck the perfect balance between fun and relaxed. Our 1-year-old was completely entertained by the colorful lizard decorations on the ceiling and the fish tank behind the bar--dinner and a show! Service The service was exceptional. The staff went out of their way to make our family comfortable, and the extra napkins, crayons, and thoughtful attention did not go unnoticed. Food Traveling with a toddler often means settling for chicken fingers and fries, but not here. Our little one happily sampled a variety of dishes, especially the yellow rice and guacamole. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the taco platter, and the salmon was surprisingly excellent. Overall A restaurant that keeps both parents and toddlers happy is a rare find. Main Street Restaurant has swiftly risen to one of our favorite en-route lunch destinations when we head up the Hudson Valley. We've yet to run into an issue finding a seat, the food is delicious, the portions are monstrous, and the prices are utterly reasonable in this economy. Their menu offerings veer toward Tex-Mex, and I'd suggest playing in that sandbox, especially for first-timers. In my limited experience, that's where their kitchen truly shines. Special mention for the birria tacos platter, which is plenty of food for two people, unless you're both ravenous. The venue seems to get some reliable lunch traffic, and staff are constantly bustling. On our first visit, we were served by one of the co-owners, who was wonderfully personable and attentive, even when she was very clearly hustling around making sure things were running smoothly. During our most recent visit, she wasn't present, and I felt like we spent a good bit of time trying to flag down a server--both to put in an order, and again when we were ready to pay our bill. I've certainly heard from multiple proprietors in the region that staffing is a bit of a headache, so it stands to reason that Main Street Restaurant isn't immune. This is a lovely representation of the charming local gems you can find in Saugerties. I was pretty impressed with this casual Mexican spot! We just happened to see it on a rainy night and decided to stop in. There's a bar and TVs, but feels more like a family-friendly go-to spot than a sports bar. We were greeted with chips and salsa, but I was really excited for the elotes locos (Mexican street corn). One order comes with two huge cobs, absolutely smothered in sauce and seasoning. It was the type of delicious meal that you accidentally smear all over your face, hands, and clothes and finish with bits of corn sticking in your teeth. It was pretty busy that night, but the chicken enchiladas came out quickly after the appetizers, followed by the baja fish tacos shortly after. Each plate is a massive quantity of food, particularly the black beans and rice. The baja fish tacos weren't huge, but having three of them hit the spot just right. The fish wasn't too soggy and the tacos had a great crunch. The food sits a little heavier, given the quantity of fried items (chips, fish, and more), but it's a great reward after a long day of hiking. read more

Decided to order takeout for lunch but will have to be back to sit in sometime! Main Street had such a lively ambiance for a week day and the interior of the space was a lot of fun with bar and booth seating and fun decor including an aquarium. Our food was ready and nicely packed by the time we got there and the service was nice as well. We ordered the birria burrito and chicken quesadilla and it was very good! Loved the birria burrito and the dip was great. Came with a side of pico and sour cream as well. Their beans and rice were also a classic. I recommend if you have a craving for Mexican! read more

This local casual Mexi restaraunt has really popular specials that are incredibly priced for Saugerties area. I have orderd for pick up over a dozen times and it is always consistent and flavorful. One of our favorite special dishes is the Burria tacos on Tuesday nights, it comes with rice and beans plus fresh pico and sour cream. If your not familar with the dish, its like french dip - but taco style instead. The best priced dish is the Wednesday burrito night specials (under $10 for a meal) and they are enormous!! Solid Mexican food. We were in town for a concert at a newly opened venue. We were able to grab a table about 30 minutes before closing. Everything we ordered was great. We started with chips and salsa- which were both very good. We ordered calamari which was served with perfectly crispy jalapeño slices too. Our friends raved about the spinach shrimp quesadillas and I loved the birria tacos. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked, the taco was crispy and the dipping sauce was amazing with the beans and rice - add in the fresh salsa and pickled onions. It's Saturday night, I'm flying solo, I peak inside and it looks packed. I had my heart set on trying the food here so I thought aW wHaT thE heCK I'll just ask how long the wait is. The hostess (manager?) had a booth for me instantly and I excitedly ordered the taco platter. She then came back to tell me that she had to switch where I was sitting which I didn't mind at all and kindly offered me churros on the house for the small inconvenience which I thought was very professional. There were at least a dozen different ingredients on this taco tray and let me tell you, not one of them was half @$$ed. From the pico, to the pork, whoever is cooking back there is an expert at flavor profiles. I blissfully ate everything on that tray. The staff, although busy as all heck, made sure to check in on lil ol' solo me. I felt seen. The portion for the price, the quality and flavor of the food, + the kind & attentive service, all on point. Round of applause for the attention to detail at this establishment. First time we've been to Saugerties--stopped here for lunch. It's on the main drag, great location for checking out the rest of the town. The food is California style Mexican, with good lunch and margarita specials. Servings are generous. They start you with chips and salsa. We had fish tacos with sides of rice and beans. Hit the spot! Service is very very good. Our server went out of her way to make us feel at home, bringing extra chips and checking in on us. They have a full bar and TVs for sports watching. Any establishment dawning a neon sign is worthy of peeking your head in and if you can get a seat, Main Street will not disappoint. The "MexAm" menu has choices for all tastes and preferences. While in town, we gave this place a try for lunch. We ordered a cobb salad and the chicken chimichangas that came with rice and beans. The food and the service weren't bad except for the guy who brought the food over and spilled beans on me. It was a little annoying how the staff that was there kept talking about how a bartender quit that day thirty minutes before her shift in front of everyone when it should be taken to the back. Went with my cousin after visiting my pet sheep at Catskill Animal Sanctuary. Manager Melissa was over the top attentive and new employee Cody was super detail oriented, dedicated to learning the system. I know how it is to start a new job. He was on it! The food was awesome! My cousin and I both got the quesadillas: I was really happy they had shredded chicken, my cousin got the steak. Both of these lunch specials come with rice or beans. We both got beans. Cousin had a draft beer which he loved. I don't normally drink margaritas, but as John Taffer would say "the window had call to action" for margaritas! I asked for it not too sweet, and it was dead on! I even got a second one, which I would never have done w any other margarita! Usually I can only deal with one! Oh - and I was blown away by how fast the food came out! As the adorable newbie server commented very endearingly "Yeah it seems like our chefs are faster than a McDonalds". What a cutie he is! We really enjoyed this restaurant. Every aspect of our meal was very enjoyable and well hosted. We were seated at the various booths, across from the bar, and were quickly greeted by our very courteous server, Marina. She ensured that we were satisfied with our selections and checked on us frequently. The complimentary chips and salsa were sooooo good. It disappeared within, what felt like, seconds after being placed on the table. The Margherita was delightful and the price was very affordable. Behind the bar, you will see a very nice aquarium, with very colorful fish. On either side of the aquarium, they placed large television screens. When we were there, they had an NCAA March Madness basketball game. Each photo that you will view will prove how good each item was and all of the items were thoroughly enjoyed. Nice visit with the family on a Sunday to Main Street. We were seated right away but the place was pretty busy at 6:30pm. Waitress came right over and took drink order, gave our 7yo a kids menu and drinks came out quickly. Frozen marg for her and local IPA for me. They are a Tex Mex but we were feeling the Mexican side that night. They did have jambalaya on menu so that will be my choice on next visit. I ordered a Seafood Burrito and also boneless wings as an appetizer. I know the wings don't really go well with the burrito but I heard good things about their wings. The good things I heard were not wrong. Boneless cubes of a juicy white meat, lots of them and covered in hot buffalo sauce. Hot enough to tingle but tame enough to enjoy for me. GET THE WINGS!! My burrito was well plated, chock full of shrimp and salmon and seasoned perfectly. Fairly large portion so I too about half home and just as good reheated. Nice noise level for bar/pub atmosphere. Waiters all pretty attentive. Decent kids menu and kid friendly. Only negative I have is that it was a cold night and we were seated fairly close to front door so there was a cold blast every time door opened but minor inconvenience. Prices are reasonable, drinks are cold. On street parking could get tricky in busy season but there are some public lots within a 2 minute walk. read more

Saugerties is kind of an off kilter place (in a good way), and one place where this is represented is that their 'Main Street Restaurant' is a Mexican joint. It also is one of the more enjoyable restaurants in town. It looks pretty unassuming from the outside with an old school sign, and with all of the wooden booths and fish tanks that continues inside. Service is consistently good for eating in and take out. For COVID they also have the right social distancing protocols in place (including a table or 2 outside). Drinks are a big part of the allure here. They have several margaritas on the menu and they are all really good. In addition, their sangrias are great and available in quart containers to go. They also have frozen drinks if that's your thing (not mine) My dinner go to here is the fish tacos. They include nice big pieces of fried cod, paired with a good amount of fillings including a chipotle aioli. You only get 2 per order but these are formidable by themselves. Paired with a ton of well done rice, beans, pico de Gallo, sour cream and guacamole, you'll be full after this. For lunch I usually get the buffalo chicken quesadillas. I've also had burgers (surprisingly good), guacamole and fajitas which are similarly fresh and good. My wife also loves the veggie sandwich quesadillas, which unlike most veggie quesadillas are packed with actual vegetables rather than looking like rabbit food. Suffice to say, they can cook. The people in and around this neighborhood love this place. Many will recommend this as the best Mexican around and possibly the best restaurant in Saugerties. Now this place isn't bad but whenever someone says this is the best place around I just think to myself: "this person can never be trusted ever again for a restaurant recommendation" So instead of a traditional review I am going to try to guess the various reasons all the locals love this place. Awesome staff. Has been a staple in this town way before the village became a tourist town. Good daily specials and even better happy hour specials. Heavy hand on the mixed drinks. It's not true authentic Mexican but the locals think it is. For people that want authentic Mexican it's close enough without having to go all the way to Kingston. Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. (not the norm around these parts) Good sized portions True score would be 3.4 I rounded it down because of Tri-colors nachos. Did not go to this restaurant expecting much, but the food was quite frankly poorly done. Here's what I ordered: *Calamari - not badly seasoned but extremely rubbery *Shrimp Chile relleno - this was the primary cause of my disappointment. The top / breading was extremely burnt and tasted as such, quite unpleasant sadly. They also used what seemed to be canned roasted red peppers within the actual dish, and gave the whole dish an almost pickled / processed taste. And the shrimp were those baby shrimps that aren't as tasty as the normal sized ones (in my opinion, at least!). Drinks were just okay. If you're looking for some meh Tex-mex, you have inherently found such a place in Main St. Restaurant! read more
