My mom was in town and we both wanted to get tattoos, pretty much on a whim. It was a Sunday so I called to see if they accept walk-ins and the person that answered said to come by in about 45 mins. I will never be coming back here again, due to the complete lack of communication and dragging time out. I came in to get two simple butterfly tattoos with my moms ashes in them. From the moment I walked in the lack of communication was obvious, but my brother and I stuck it out. My artist Leo torres gave me an estimate of $450 for both tattoos and I said that's great, I have many other tattoos and am very familiar with the process as well as wiggle room with price when it comes with tattoos. I was waiting about two and a half hours before I was even in the chair and once I was he took longer on a small arm tattoo than any of my other complicated mirrored tattoos combined, I do understand some artist take longer and I am completely fine with that, but never did he say anything about charging me for his hourly price for BOTH tattoos, we agreed on a estimated fixed price. Once he finished the first only THEN did he tell me he wanted $400 for the ONE and wanted another $300 for the other arm. It wasn't about the money, it was about the fact that he did not communicate and changed the price completely as soon as he finished. I couldn't just be like, "alright dude take the tattoo off". He tried to say he didn't know it was going to take that long and barely brought up his hourly price, again AFTER he finished. I do not believe this tattoo was worth the $400. It's sad because when I tried to defend myself and communicate with him, he gaslit me and couldn't own up to anything. The saddest part is that this tattoo is for my late mom, with her ashes in it and I didn't get to have him do the other side, because he lost my trust and business after he pulled that move. The only good thing, is that his work is really good, but I just can't believe this happened. Especially since the shop looks so nice, but I learned my lesson coming here, I truly hope something gets done about this. read more

Tuesday was a very important day for me so I decided to commemorate the events with a tattoo. The last place I'd gone to is over an hour away after I moved two years ago so I turned to my trusty app for direction. Main Street Tattoo was the highest rated tattoo shop near me on Yelp so it was a no brainer. I got there in ten minutes and there were only three employees, no customers. Can we say "jackpot"?! After explaining about my spontaneous decision to get inked and the idea I had, the guy at the counter called over Kyle to help me out. I explained the concept that I'd been mulling over for a few years and what he sketched it out for me was perfect. Belatedly (I was already on the table and he had the gun out) I asked if he tattooed any dark skinned people previously. This is important because oftentimes non-Black tattoo artists will unnecessarily dig into Black or dark-skinned poc skin because they think it's the only way that the ink will show. That usually results in scarring and deformed tattoos which is then blamed on the dark skin and--it's a bigoted cycle. I didn't have to worry about that with Kyle. He assured me that he had worked on dark skin before and I trusted that. Plus, he was kind and had a good energy, and I trusted that as well. What I ended up with was a beautiful piece of art that I thought was perfect in theory but was actually so much more in reality. Kyle did amazing and I love my tattoo, which is a feathered quill writing the words "I am". From the time I walked through the door until I left was just about two hours and every moment was productive. At no point was I sitting around wondering what I was waiting for. Without a doubt, I will return and I'll be sure to post a secondary picture of my tatt once it's completely healed. Oh! It's important to note (for any women considering this place) that the bathroom was INCREDIBLY clean, which was surprising for a shop filled with men, and even when I was the only woman in the shop it was never icky or uncomfortable. No one was inappropriate or had inappropriate conversations around me or within hearing distance. ALSO, old school hip hop like Wu-Tang Clan and Gangstarr was playing the entire time I was there. Walked in and told him what I wanted, I did change my mind about 2 days later, sent him a text, email, and an instagram message stating what else I wanted. I never received a word back. My appt as 9/24, I should up, money in hand, this fool stated that he got a new phone and that it was a last minute change. New phone or not, you mean to tell me you didn't get the other 2 forms of communication? He says no but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and rescheduled Friday 10/7. I messaged him that morning at 10am, he responds back at 12:12pm stating that what I was looks for was "not up his alley"! What a joke! If you can't do it then say you can't do it. I have no doubt they do awesome work, but have a backbone and speak up instead of stringing folks along for over a month and keeping the deposit for quick chump change. read more

The tattoo artist OVERSLEPT and called to apologize only to realize I was PSYCHO GRANDMOTHER.. was told they should practice better business sense that they have been successful with their present business practice....I got my grandson's $100 cash deposit without ANY receipt and told to never come back. Damn straight I won't with a company that only takes cash or a payment via credit card to report earnings. And no receipts...wondering. I have been planning on getting a specific tattoo for years but have been looking for the right tattooer to do it. I stopped by Main St to check out portfolios. They were closed today, but ran into KC in the parking lot and he invited me in to check them out. I liked the fact that the flash on the walls was only traditional art! He spoke highly of his co-workers work and did not try to sell his own work. His customer service was top notch, and this review is more about him than the shop, but he represents the shop well. The facility is nice and clean. It is still being moved into, but does not look like a construction site. KC took plenty of time to hear what I wanted, and drew an original piece for me sticking with the traditions of my chosen style. He did not have a heavy hand and I was quite comfortable getting it done. His line work was more than impressive. No blow outs and parallel lines were perfectly parallel, something that I am picky about. I will be seeing him for all of my work. I came in for a Friday the 13th tattoo. They had a list of designs to choose from and I chose a rose that was advertised in black and white, no mention of color. We are discussing where to place the stencil and I decided I wanted it next to another flower I previously got (from a different shop). I was told it would not look good there and that I was going to get it in a different spot. I just kinda went with it and said okay, it wasn't a bad spot, just not what I wanted. Then halfway through I asked if he was almost finished and he said "yes with the line work, then I'll do that rest" I proceeded to ask what the "rest" Was as the tattoo was advertised in black and white. He said color, I just about lost my mind. This man was going to permanently put color into my body without me knowing or discussing it with me. After I explained I didn't want that, he began to guilt trip me and tell me it won't look without it and that he wasted the color by pouring it out. The line work is amazing and he did a good job, I just don't appreciate him not letting me get it where I wanted it, that I was going to have color on my body without my permission or my knowledge, and that they were trying to make me feel bad for not doing it. I thought it was very unprofessional, won't be back which is sad because the line work is impeccable. read more

Davie Graves did an amazing custom job on my design, perfect line work and beautiful shading with a great price! I found my new artist and I'm already planning my next piece.
