NEVER BUY ANYTHING HERE OR AMERICAN RAG!!!!!! They are one company- I purchased the famous Jean Dubost Chef knife set and the spoon and fork set as well at Maison Midi on LaBrea.l July 22nd. My mom and I got cut after using it for less than a few seconds on the same position. The handle and the top of the knife was sharper than the bottom blade (cutting edge) of the knife. We both bled and took us a week later to find time to return the knives we feared to touch again a week later on July 29th. They sent me to AM Rag few stores down for a store credit only which was already inconvenient and only to find out after showing my cut skin that remained open and sore after a whole week since first attempt to use, the owner of the brand , Susan Starr and the store manager, Sarah Koenig refused to give a store credit , because the product has been open and not in the original packaging. I explained I love the knife set but it is clearly not treated safely on the handle and the top part is sharper than the cutting edge on the bottom, and I wouldn't have known that by just looking at the packaged product. It was crystal clear because my mom and I came into the store to show our deep cuts even after a week of use which was within their 14 day policy. You guys should be ashamed to let the customers get injured and cared less for potential business. You saw the injury in person and I was upset about the injury happened to both my mom and myself. I have multiple chefs in family and friends and none of have seen the knife being that dangerous. So upset, please dont shop at this brand at all!!!! They can't stand behind the value of the brand they are representing!!!!!!! They are too proud to admit they had a default product even with 2 injured customers came in person to show their wounds and they told me they couldn't help in any way. Such an aggravating and Sad experience with AM RAG and Maison Midi, and now I dont trust in Jean Dubost anymore. read more

I was staying in an Airbnb in Silver Lake that left much to be desired. And I was staying for two months. So I resolved to be supply my place with enough materials to make my place more homey. Maison Midi came to my rescue, offering very fine French country-styled kitchen accoutrements such as tablecloths, towels, glassware, candles, and flatware. The manager was very kind and warm, extremely charming and helpful. All of my purchases served my needs in the Airbnb and came home with me when my residency ended. I spent a good deal of money on the clothing side yesterday. Then I went to to Maison side and saw the most beautiful bowls! I had one in my hands and more on the table. I was walking past the table (with very little clearance) next to the wall shelving. I bumped into a bowl with my foot. I picked up the pieces and carried them to the front desk. The clerk thanked me. I apologized. I finished gathering my purchases and went to pay. The clerk told me he had to charge me for the broken bowl. I said asked are u sure. Is that policy. I don't think that's right. He was a super sweet kid and he swore he had to charge me. I called later that day and spoke to a manager. The manager said a Maison manager would call me back. This did not happen. I am sad to say I won't shops at Maison again - and I really loved their wares. read more

My mother would love this place Its like a little french cafe market for sale in here. Wonderfully colored tumblers, tall glasses & pints with old french soda logos all for about $7-$10 each. Tablecloths, dishsets, large umbrellas, baskets, beautifully picked patio sets, post cards from Monaco and other dreamy 60s eurocoast destinations, French doorplates, of which i purchased "Entree de Artistes" Really nice selection of cookbooks too. read more

Over the years, I casually drop in on Maison Midi for a parisian breakfast. Devouring their Croque Madame with a cafe' in tow, they've yet to fail me. Sure, the place is tiny (asses and elbows tight) but has a wonderful charm. A nice upside is the connecting door to American Rag; fine denim abound. Do a little snacking and then walk off the meal with a stroll on La Brea for shops, sights, and sounds. read more

Forcing me to buy a drink to use restroom is beyond rude. I will never ever buy anything from this place. In fact, I was going to shop next door and it was highly likely I would have gone here and got a drink the road. So what did their policy accomplish? Pissing of a POTENTIAL customer. One of the best stores in LA when it comes to product under one roof. I've had a tough time sitting to write this because I shop there so often and always find things I can't find elsewhere. They also have some really great home products at reasonable prices. However , today was a final straw. The 2 stars are all about customer service. Time and again it appears that management has either not trained their staff well or just doesn't care. More than not there's attitude. Not everyone but enough. And more than not they don't know the designers or products. It's amazing. There are other times when they are defensive and combative. Take today - I went to the home section to look at tables cloths. No one was in the section and so I pulled a couple down off the shelf so I could see size and pattern. BTW I opened 2 cloths. 2. I took one that I wanted to purchased and went to the cashier. I looked around. Still no one. I rang the bell. Still no one. I walked around and finally a man came from the back room. I asked to see something else and he took me to where I had looked at table cloths. As soon as he saw the 2 that I had pulled down I got scolded. I was told I needed to wait for him because now it was a huge mess and he was the only one in the department. There were no other customers. I apologized and said " no one was here" and he said " well next time please wait. " He was VERY clear that I had messed things up and was snotty when I made my purchase. This sort of behavior has happened on the clothing side as well in the past. Oh and one more thing - no more bathroom unless you order something to eat. ??? I'm writing this mainly in the hopes that management reads it. Not to get anyone fired but to train better. Make it a comfortable place to shop. Getting there and parking is such a pain that you'd like a good experience. The parking attendant as well is not very nice. He's the first impression and it's a turn off. I've shopped there since the '90's so I've spent a lot of time here. read more
