Gristle on a 29 euro steak Skip it.
    Yvonne G.

Came back to this place because I was sucked in by the French onion soup. This time in the mood for a steak. So I ordered the $29 steak with frites. My companion ordered the beef bourg inon. The young waitress brought us two steaks orders instead of one. I told her hubby did not order the steak but she seemed so upset and over reactive to have made the mistake that I accepted her error. I kept the second steak. She never returned again to check on us as most servers do. It turns out she left for the day. Not once coming by to check on us despite the fact that we were the only two people dining at the time. The steaks were tough with gristle beyond the usual. With the waitress gone, I called the man in charge to show him the poor quality of the meat. His excuse was that this was ribeye and ribeye is very fatty. Not acceptable sir. I have eaten many rib eyes in my day and nothing compares to the garbage that was put on our plates. We spent 58 euros on these two insulting pieces of meat without the management even apologizing for this scam. Tread lightly with this place. This is just my opinion.

    French onion soup

Our first meal in Paris good but not great! The French onion soup is great! The escargot mediocre. The steak and frites absolutely awful! For 26 euro it was so chewy! Great flavor but not edible! The Ratatouille is great but small portion. Seems like a good local place but a bit touristy. So many other great restaurants I would pass!

The set up is nice. It's right outside of the hotel where I'm staying. My waiter was very nice & could speak English which was a plus! The food was great the service was nice. The food came out in a timely manner! Great atmosphere! Clean and close to the hotel!

Cute little French restaurant! A great location with lots of light from a sunroom like indoor seating area. The service was okay, not the most attentive though but the drinks were strong and the beef in the burgers were fantastic! Overall, a great experience!

    Outdoor seating/smoking near metro

Solid option right near the metro with continuous service throughout the day so you won't get caught with tricky hours. I arrived around 4:30pm before most other people and I was able to get bottled cider and onion soup for about 14€- so definitely tourist prices- but it was tasty and considering it's right next to the metro and Les Halles, it's an easily visible corner for people to meet up and share drinks or a meal together.

    Kid menu steak

There's a lot of restaurants around this area. The night before, we went to an excellent restaurant. We figure we try something different and this restaurant was really closed to our hotel. Unfortunately, it wasn't as good. Not even close. We wanted a ribeye steak. They only have one steak left so I had to order the caramelized pork. Luckily for me, the pork tasted better than the steak. It wasn't even a ribeye cut. It was a NY steak that wasn't tender at all. It was cooked more medium than medium rare. The mushroom linguine was okay. What's really disappointing is the kid menu steak. It wasn't. It was really a hamburger patty served with fries. They should have said a hamburger patty instead of calling it a steak. The creme brûlée was excellent. The service was excellent. The waiter spoke good English and was quite helpful. There are green light dishes for Thinsulin fans. Overall, I would not come back here. The food was just average.

    Prix-fixe breakfast
    Liz S.

This was a pretty meh spot for breakfast. They had a prix-fixe deal with juice, coffee, and pastries, and it was one of the few places with any patrons around 10:30, so it fit the bill, but it was a bit of a tourist trap. Food quality was not great for the price; the croissant was decent but the bread seemed stale. The espresso and hot chocolate were fine. I'm not big on juice so decided to get the lemon-- it was literally lemon juice, like, pure and undiluted with seeds and all. Would anyone seriously drink this? One of the things that really turned me off was that the waitress had serious attitude; before she even seated us she was all rolled eyes and impatient breathing. Calm down, girl! It was nice to sit out in the square but otherwise you can skip this.

    The kids croque monsieur

Let me start by saying the service was great and they were very accommodating of my minimal French. However, the food was nothing special at all. I ordered duck and it was WAY over done. My husband's snails were okay but nothing special. My daughter's meal was also just so so. The food wasn't necessarily bad but with so many great food choices I would pass this one up.

Very good service. We had the escargots and the lamb shank ratatouille. They were pretty good. Bacon cheeseburger was big.

    Holly C.

The food was fresh and amazing. The 1/4 chicken was outstanding. The Cheese cake is how it should be everywhere. It had a hidden surprise of passion fruit in the center. Our server was attentive and had a great personality. Pierre is who you should hope to get as your server. I had a nice drink and the carbonara. Over all great last dinner in Paris.

We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. They had a number of goods to choose from and I ended up buying a few things for souvenirs. As for the actual restaurant, they had a number of delicious sounding items on their menu. Our server was very attentive to us and helped us decide on our dinner orders. Similar to the other restaurants though. After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.

I ordered the Magret de Canard au Romarin. The duck was solid. A 3.5/5 kind of dish. Rich, savory, comforting after a long day walking through the city. But the risotto surprised me more. The scallops were delicate, the spelt added this earthy texture that made the dish feel substantial without ever becoming heavy. And then there's the mousse au chocolat. The famous one. Served from an oversized bowl with this almost excessive "all you can eat" energy that somehow still feels elegant instead of gimmicky. We only needed a few bites. Soft, luxurious, lightly bitter chocolate balanced perfectly against just enough sweetness. The kind of dessert that doesn't ask for attention. It quietly earns it.
