The location is fantastic, the design is incredible and the rooms are genuinely cool. I arrived wanting to love this hotel. I left knowing I won't return. My room wasn't ready when I arrived. Fine. That happens and wasn't an issue. When I finally got into the room, it was stifling hot. The thermostat read 64 degrees with the fan on full, yet the room felt like there was no air conditioning at all. I went downstairs and told the front desk. I came back later. No difference. I barely slept that night because the room was so hot. The next morning, I told them again before leaving for the day. I assumed that after reporting the same problem twice, it would obviously be addressed. I came back. Still no difference. At that point I started troubleshooting the room myself. I turned the thermostat completely off. Air continued coming out of the unit. I left it off for about 10 minutes, turned it back on and, again, absolutely no difference. I spoke with a manager who told me they would come upstairs. Instead, they sent a bellman. He walked into the room and immediately said, "Wow, it's hot." Exactly. He then took me to two other rooms to see if I could move. Both had the same problem. Both were stifling hot. Eventually, a manager told me they would bring up a portable AC unit. They delivered a roughly four-foot-tall unit to the room and, amazingly, that actually cooled it down. So clearly the problem wasn't subjective. What makes the experience so unacceptable isn't that there was a problem with the air conditioning. Things break. Hotels have mechanical issues. I understand that. What I don't understand is how a hotel at this level can require a guest to raise the same basic issue six different times over two days before someone actually takes ownership of it and fixes it. I have top status with Marriott, but that really shouldn't matter. You shouldn't need status to get a comfortable room, nor should any guest paying these rates have to repeatedly chase the staff to resolve something as fundamental as being able to sleep. When I checked out, I went through the entire experience with another manager. After hearing what had happened, he essentially had no words. Neither did I. That is ultimately what ruined the stay. Not a broken AC system, but the complete lack of urgency and attentiveness in dealing with it. This is a beautiful property in a terrific location. I genuinely wanted to love it. Unfortunately, great design doesn't compensate for inattentive service, particularly when a basic problem is allowed to continue for two days despite being repeatedly brought to the hotel's attention. At this price point and at a hotel positioning itself at this level, the experience was brutal. Beautiful hotel. Great location. Incredibly disappointing service. I won't return.

When we looked up the hotel one of the first things we saw it was across the street from pier. It is by 3-4blocks. It is a historic hotel there is a lot of old with the new. We did not get the room with view we asked for. The first room we got was not handicapped accessible which we asked for 2 months ago. It was on 1st floor and there is no elevator to 1st floor so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs. So back to front desk and we was given another room without a view but they were very fast to try get us to upgrade rooms to suite. Heck I didn't get the room I paid for let alone upgrade my room. The good part the rooms was nice and big. But understand the rooms have a mixtureof upgrades and hints of history from the days of old. The bed was super nice we slept well. The court yard is super nice with lots of seating. Towels provided poolside. The hot tub was super nice. Only down here is someone needs to skim pool and hot tub daily. The pool area is illuminated with a fire pit at night (really cool). The outside bar never opened the 4 days we were here. I went upstairs to pH bar and it was never opened either. The one stop coffee shop is nice with lots of choices for coffee and breakfast things. This is not included with your room so prepare to pay beach prices for coffee and food. Sad thing is we stayed several days and not a free coffee or anyone looking out for us. We had some strange things be it haunted or something else. We stayed 4 days and 3 night. Two of the three nights the fire alarm went off at 3am. The third night sounded like a loud speaker in court room. The cleaning crew is efficient but they start really early in morning so no sleeping in.

The hotel is very nice, clean, and upscale, but definitely pricey. Overall, a solid luxury stay if you don't mind spending a little extra. You can always judge the quality of a hotel room by looking for a photos of the bathroom Minus one star because the staff in the lobby area were giving us a hard time for ordering food and eating it in the lobby. I found it interesting because the lobby was empty with tons of seats. We just settled and orders some drinks so they'd leave us be.

I've been to a lot of hotels with this style. Water pressure was probably a 6/10. Turning the knob for the initial morning shower sucks cause it's cold and you get hit with the cold water before lol. Other than that, this location is prime. Very specious in the building and hallways. Room was standard spacious and it had vaulted ceilings.

I needed a place that could comfortably accommodate my dad, my dog, and me while allowing me to shuttle back and forth to the hospital easily. The Ambrose ended up being just about a two-minute drive from the medical center, which made an enormous difference. When my mom had surgery there a few years ago, I stayed closer to the ocean. Even though it was only about a mile and a half away, the traffic made it take 15 minutes each way to get to the hospital. This time, being so close made everything so much easier during a stressful few days when I was going back and forth constantly. The property itself was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. It was also incredibly convenient to have Tartine right across the street for coffee, breakfast, and quick refreshments. There are also plenty of nearby shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and even specialty markets like Erewhon within minutes. Most importantly, the hotel was very accommodating for my dog Grace, which was essential for our stay. All around, it was a wonderful experience, and I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it--especially for anyone who needs to be close to UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center.

They serve small bites and a full bar. We had a cheeseburger and it was delicious! The pickled shallots stole the show. They had signature side inks and non alcoholic beverages that looked very yummy. For the concert venue valet is available for $25 but I'm not sure if it's included in your stay and they were so nice and personable. Did I say this place was SEXY?! My only regret is not getting a room after the concert just to check it out. Seems like a fantastic staycation hotel. Highly suggest checking out the concert venue and grab a room while you're at it.

It can be quite loud in the rooms given how busy the area is and there are often buskers around or near by so if you're a light sleeper you may want to look elsewhere. Another thing to be aware of is the valet parking which is over $70/day. There is a parking garage right across the street which is much cheaper. Overall the hotel was nice and a pretty good experience. It is in a crowded area which can make it hard to get in and out of. Parking is very expensive and the noise level is high. I would recommend this hotel if you are planning on staying in the area and either exploring on foot or using ride shares. If you are planning on venturing away from the area for most of your trip then I would consider staying at another hotel. Everything is elegantly done, but also with warmth that makes you feels welcome and at home. The service is impeccable. I am in a wheelchair and was accommodated for my needs (lift to the side of the front stairs, ADA room with bathub- which is what I needed and asked for). They make you feel very taken care of.
