The Sunset Tower is one of my favorite hotels. It has Art Deco elegance in the building and furnishings, but most importantly the staff have a classic approach to service. Everything is elegantly done, but also with warmth that makes you feels welcome and at home. The service is impeccable. I am in a wheelchair and was accommodated for my needs (lift to the side of the front stairs, ADA room with bathub- which is what I needed and asked for). They make you feel very taken care of. I stopped in because this was recommended as a great tourist spot to get the true LA vibe. Parking is $20. Drinks are $30. So I paid about $50 to be here. The views from the backside terrace area are unimpressive and you cant see much of the city because the view is obscured by trees and other buildings. Pool is very small. Servers were generally friendly. I guess I just dont see the hype of this place. It looks like they cator to large events like gatherings and weddings and it might be a popular event venue. But if you are going in for a drink Ior to get dinner I think there are better places to chill. read more

I attended an event at the hotel this past weekend, if I was associated with the catering staff at the venue, I would be embarrassed to admit it. The condition of the food served was totally unacceptable. The time it took to process the event was unbelievably long. My husband and I enjoyed our stay here for anniversary. From the moment of our reservation until check out, we were taken care of extremely well. Our suite was gorgeous, they spared no expense to make it a memorable trip for us. I love the pool as well as the restaurant, the amenities are wonderful here. We're strolling off the "shit caked" streets of Sunset Boulevard...as I'm staring at a pile about to push the crosswalk button I'm starting to wonder if that actually came from a dog ... please let that be dog shit...the air is a lot grimmer these days...a man in surf board shorts is screaming from the top of his lungs as he searches through a trash filled container...hotels stopped rinsing off their sidewalks because "what's the point" ... they'll just be back tomorrow ... the revellers ... the destitute... the drunks...ready to piss all over your sidewalk one new day after another...jeez... that's a pretty grim picture ... but it doesn't have to be...this is Sunset... it takes a thick skin to graze this boulevard... but it's still a hella a lot of fun... it's always been ... Far removed from the 80s and 90s when things were more respectable among the comedians and rockers and star fuckers of the world... the star map vans... the out of towners hoping to catch a glimpse of a celebrity ... a ghost even... of a man or a woman that has filled their television screens in their lonely small towns across America... here they ride one last ride to lasso in that picture of fame and take with them back home a memory or a conquest of something magical... someone special... something "Hollywood" ...well not much has changed on Sunset... We scurry in from the detritus...and find a happy solace at the Sunset Tower ... the sweet lady hostess lets us in anyway as I think 3pm is the cut off for outside guests...so we ask what type of desserts they have... She says "we only have home made cookies now..." Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal... she says... I'm home again... It's quiet here... small potted palm trees adorn the seating rooms center stage...the pool is cold and empty and hangs low over a huge Mega Screen depicting Joaquin Phoenix's new film NAPOLEON...but it's not ominous here.. that was outside ... inside the crystal clear blue water from the pool sits calmly serenely overlooking the Culver City high rises and Saban's bubble venue Theater... the contrailed riddled sky can't hide all the blue the Los Angeles sky has to offer... and suddenly the sun starts to break through the clouds... A cappuccino will couple nicely on a quaint afternoon... it's so quiet inside here.. the waiters are warm and friendly ... the guests are smiling and imbibing afternoon cocktails; prepping their wedding parties; a writers group congregates over a booth... it's friendly here ... I tell one of the waiters that's he's rocking a trend setting mullet the likes of which I have to say ... was pretty darn cool... and he laughs and agrees... it was an epic mullet and yet cool af... The French accented waiter tells me the top penthouse could go for $2500 to $3000 depending on the days and the plans; some stage dinner parties there... and back in the 20's ... the ROARING 20's mind you... I'm sure those open terraced rooms hosted the likes of Hollywood Stars; Producers; and Directors of films that you and I watch every Christmas or New Year snuggled around our cozy television sets... Today all I need though is another bite of this oat meal cookie... the black and white stills of days of Hollywood past adorn the walls... "here's looking at you kid..." I feel the veins of Old Hollywood here... the ghosts... they possess you a little here... We're traveling back in time...it's a lovely afternoon and the cookies are fine... the coffee is fine... I'm feeling a hell of a lot better now... And back out we go! read more

My friend and I were meeting for drinks. She's visiting from London so I thought the bar area with its pretty view would be lovely. However the room was closed for a private event and the alternate bar area was like a broom closet. We were up against a heavy brown velvet curtain where they were vacuuming the dining room on the other side. Not a good vibe for a Saturday night cocktail. Aside from zero ambience, they don't even have a small bowl of nuts, or chips, like most hotel bars do. Of course it's expensive for drinks and expensive to valet park. But there was no added value. The clientele is equally uninspired, a parade of self-important Z-list actors and slimy producers who are as obnoxious as the establishment's overpriced yet mediocre fare. Certainly not the worst offense in hospitality, but what makes the Sunset Tower truly insufferable is its erratic treatment of customers, which, as another reviewer noted, could switch drastically from over-the-top fake friendliness to astonishingly disrespectful, depending entirely on the guest's perceived status--a practice that comes across as both schizophrenic and classless. The Sunset Tower's haughty pretentiousness might be forgivable if it were backed by even a shred of quality. Do yourself a favor and skip this tired, uninspired relic. Came in the other day to ask about reservations for a birthday celebration at the bar. While speaking with the front desk I politely asked if I could quickly use the restroom. Out of nowhere, a very rude security guard who was sitting down on his phone interrupted (I wasn't even speaking to him) and told us to get off the property. The front desk woman was clearly caught off guard and looked uncomfortable like she was too embarrassed to say anything. Because of how awkward and hostile it became we just left. Then the same security guard followed us outside and told us we couldn't even stand on the public sidewalk while waiting for our driver. I was honestly in shock by how we were treated (like we were loitering or doing something wrong when we weren't.) I've stayed in and visited hotels all over the world, from NYC to Switzerland and I've never experienced anything like this. It's a beautiful building, but the experience was completely ruined by one security guard with a really ugly attitude who clearly thinks he runs the place. One of the nicest hotel experiences I've had in a while. While other hotels cut back on service, seems this place stepped it up. Lovely room, with windows that actually open, high quality products, linens, towels, well-stocked room with "free" drinks and alcohol, great valets, everyone treats you well and the room service is well above average and very fast. read more

West Hollywood is my favorite area and deciding between hotels can be daunting as there are so many options. I narrowed my choices down to Sunset Tower, Andaz, and Mondrian and due to favorable reviews, I chose Sunset Tower Hotel and moving forward, this will be my choice hotel when visiting LA. From the moment I pulled into valet until my departure, the service I was provided was unparalleled and I am not anywhere near celebrity status, so the treatment I was shown made me feel valued as a client; not to mention the handwritten thank you note that was waiting for me with a small box of delicious truffles. As many times as I have stayed/visited the Los Angeles area, I never knew this hotel was so rich in history until I read the book in my room. All of those factors solidified my feeling that I had chosen the right hotel, While some hotels might be more modern, the rooms at sunset, are very nice, cozy and styled more traditionally which is indicative of the culture and glam associated with this hotel. The sunset hotel screams old status versus many others on the block and when you have a hotel on this level, the clientele is a bit more elegant and mature, the employees are usually more seasoned and it seems the turnover is very low if at all. While every employee was fantastic the ones that stood out the most were Eva (front desk) and Angel (Tower Bar). While waiting for my friend, I complimented Eva on her accent and I found out she is from Kenya. We had a lovely, genuine conversation and her smile was always so beautiful. I dined in the tower bar for breakfast every day and even when I was not in his section, Angel always stopped by and asked if there was anything I needed. Obviously, I have nothing but kind words for this place and next year, I will back with my family. read more

The staff was quick to keep the drinking bar and lounge area cleaned up so guests could sit to order and drink right away. The vibes were very cute and there was live jazzy(?) music on Saturday night. It felt very old hollywood-y. We ordered off the fixed menu. Caesar salad: 4/5 Branzino: 4/5 The mashed potatoes that came with this was very good and flavorful. The asparagus was roasted well. The branzino's flavors were good. Sorbet trio: 3.5/5 mango, strawberry, lemon. Lemon was very tart. The mango was really good. The strawberry had a lot of seeds in it, and provided texture. I wasn't a fan. read more

Came here for Halloween 2020 to mini-celebrate safety with my friends. Also because of the TV show Lucifer (on Netflix) since I am a OC gal and I've always wanted to check out some of the places from the show Echo Park, Sunset Tower, Marina Del Rey etc. Anyway, they only use the outside of the Sunset Tower for the show and CGI the penthouse which I knew before going as well. TIP: Lucifer fans! You can ask for a tour of the penthouse as long as it isn't occupied! :) MY STAY specifically: I was aware of it being a historical iconic hotel, ex-Apartments for the old Hollywood actors and stuff, so I was already aware of how fancy it was. A once in a lifetime stay with some friends, so we got the Queen Suite, which is like the King Suite but with two beds. And wow! It was so beautiful, we had a nice view of the street and the hills across from the random Saddleback Ranch. The suite was smaller than I expected for the price, but it's LA--I guess lol. It's right on the strip so it makes sense. No complains about how the room looked or the bathroom, and the service was amazing down at the bar for breakfast: coffee and a muffin, and my friends and I had our own High Tea ceremony for Halloween. And the hotel helped us with hot water, and a whole tea service cutlery , plates etc. The only CONS I have: I am a person of color, and so are my friends. While the majority of the staff were nice, and it is an upscale hotel, and my friends and I certainly aren't elite. It was surprising that when we pulled up we got asked if we were just coming to eat, and then after checking in that night, we went downstairs to get some stuff out the car, and again we were asked oh are you here to eat? And then in the morning, we came down for breakfast and AGAIN we were asked "oh just stopping by to get something to eat?" And we had to keep telling everyone we were guests of the hotel, and we didn't see anyone else getting stopped and asked this. We also did physically scare a Caucasian couple coming out of an elevator, who was caught off guard by us waiting to use the elevator next, but that's obviously not the hotels fault. Just mentioning my experience in this regard. PROS: wonderful stay, wonderful place, and I am so glad I got to experience this hotel in my lifetime.
