It's stunning yet cozy with the most inviting, homey feel. The bed was out of this world comfortable and I had the best sleep of my life here. The hostess is an absolute sweetheart, kind, helpful, and thoughtful in every detail. The grounds are gorgeous and her little homemade treats are delicious. We skipped breakfast simply because we're not big morning eaters, but the spread looked wonderful. My only tiny suggestion, and it's not even worth docking a star, would be to add a lock to the guest room doors when you leave. The main building is locked and it felt completely safe, but a personal lock would give that extra layer of peace of mind. I let my guard down and felt perfectly at ease. This isn't just a stay. It's a memory. The place I turned 40. A hidden treasure I'll always hold close to my heart.

This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast and I fear no other B&B will compare. The property was stunning with both mountain and ocean views, lush lavender fields and a cidery all on the property. I was just expecting a pastry and a coffee for breakfast but the full breakfast rivaled some top tier restaurants. Ginger and Scott are ideal hosts, they were full of knowledge and provide great recommendations. The comfort, ambiance, views, and hospitality make Salt and Cedar a destination all on its own. The long one-lane drive can be tricky if there is oncoming traffic (luckily we didn't encounter any). We recommend only travel during daylight. Pack essentials such as drinking water. The rooms are clean. The layout is a bit awkward. Not enough lighting to do much after dark. This can be a problem when the days are shorter. Part of the second bedroom has very low ceiling (under 5 feet), and you bump your head walking around the bed. Don't know why the bed is not placed on the opposite wall which would solve the problem.

The little house is a beautiful gem and perfect for a family with kids - there is only one bedroom on the first floor and then a sleeping loft accessed by a ladder (which the kids thought was cool). The house was very clean and well maintained and had all the comforts of home. My wife and I both like to cook and the kitchen had everything we needed, including a nice gas range and all the basic sundries we needed (oil, vinegar, basic spices, ketchup, mustard, etc.) The area is convenient enough to town but far enough away so one could enjoy the 'country', including the peace and solitude we were seeking. Perfect. The surrounding property and deck were perfect for us and we enjoyed the hot tub after long days of hiking in Olympic National Park. We also enjoyed dinner on the deck while overlooking the Olympic Range. We've rented many houses over the years and this was one of the best. Would recommend this place to anyone. The owners are very nice. A few notes: 1. While this house says it could sleep 8, I'm not sure this house would be comfortable for more than 2 adults and kids, unless two adults like climbing the ladder to the loft and sharing space with the kids. The house is perfect for a couple or small family. 2. The hot tub cover weighed a ton! I tried placing it back on the tub myself and it fell and cracked. I nearly had a heart attack with worry (lost deposit, causing damage for something not my fault). The owner assured me the next morning that lid was old, and degrading so soaking up water and they should have told me ahead of time. They refunded me security deposit without delay. Don't hesitate to stay here - just awesome!!

This time we booked a couple of nights in the Lodge itself. It was wonderful to be able to go on hikes such as Mount Storm King and then come back to the Lodge later for a hot meal and cold drink. First I'd like to address the Lodge accommodations. The rooms are indeed small and the bathrooms are shared. Neither of these facts were problematic. Neither my wife nor I ever had to wait to use a bathroom (and there is also a bathroom downstairs if we did) or the shower. Yes the walls are thin and yes you might hear the neighbor snoring. It's a 100+ year-old Lodge and National Historic Place!! If your idea of roughing it is checking Into the Four Seasons without reservations, then maybe you should look elsewhere. Was the bed cozy? Yes! Get cozy! We ended up eating a lunch and two dinners at the restaurant. The full dinner menu is available from the bar as well, so even if reservations are full you can get the same meal in the lodge or on the enclosed patio. For lunch we had the sliders and a cup of chowder, both of which were wonderful. For dinner, one night we had the roasted wild-caught sablefish and braised pork shank, both of which also well prepared and very well presented. I appreciate a good plate presentation and the chef did not disappoint. For dinner on the second night, we had the sablefish again (it was that good) and the risotto with prawns. I had high hopes for the risotto but honestly it was the only disappointing meal we had at the Lodge. It was too salty for my liking and prawns were a little dry. The service, at the front desk, at the bar, and at the restaurant were all top notch. The staff seemed happy to be there, were eager to please and delightful conversationalists. I think a new concessionaire took over management of this location recently and they have done a great job creating a solid park experience. Finally, we enjoyed a couple of craft cocktails and glasses of wine during our stay and all was well-paired and well-made. Five stars and definitely recommend eating and staying at the Lodge.

Our family of four stayed at the "Whimsical Bear" cottage for four nights while venturing through the Olympic National Park and it was a wonderful home away from home. It was so cozy, fully furnished with everything we could need and had cute bear décor in each room. KITCHEN: It came stocked with all the dishes, utensils and cookware that we could possibly need. Other than whipping up some light breakfasts, we actually didn't cook much. The cabinet had some random cans of food and spices. The owners also kindly left a basket of complimentary snacks on the counter and a few sodas and juices in the fridge. BATHROOM: One bathroom to share among four of us was a little tough, but we made it work! There was one shower and a whirlpool tub. Unfortunately, there was no separation between the toilet & sink and the rest of the bathroom, so really only one person could use it at a time. BEDROOM: The single king bed was soft and comfortable, but the room got pretty hot at night. It had a small closet and a dresser for storage. The only way to enter the bathroom is through the bedroom, so this could be disruptive for lighter sleepers. LIVING SPACE: The sofa folded out into a bed which I actually preferred sleeping in. There was a fireplace and satellite TV. We had a tough time figuring out the TV since there were two different remotes. We called the owners for instructions which they graciously provided, but it would have been helpful if they left some directions in the cottage for reference. Other notes: + You cannot wear shoes in the house, so they had a basket with pairs of socks for each person near the door. The socks were really thick and too hot for the summer, so I just wore my own. I would have preferred either thinner, breathable socks or some cheap slippers. + After we added some breakfast items, vegetables and fruit into the fridge, it took several hours to cool down below 40 degrees F. According to the owners, this is normal. + If you walk all the way down the road, you'll find the owners' home and lovely garden. We met Chris and he spoke with us for a few minutes, let us throw some food to the fish in the pond and also gave us slices of bread to feed their deer. We didn't see any deer at first, but after calling out to them ("Helloooo deer! Deer!"), they came running out. So cute and gentle! Our stay at A Hidden Haven was really a special one. I definitely recommend it if you're visiting the Olympic National Park! 4.75 stars.

The camping spot T1 that we had was so tiny and didn't look at all like the photos on their website. The family next to us was also the owners family ( or friends) and after we left we think most of the people staying here were also. They were decked out in American flags and decor in celebration of the 4th and I mean full on decked out. One guy had an American flag overalls and we just thought good for them ...But you read into that as you will. We got odd looks that we didn't read too much into but when you get that gut feeling sometimes you gotta listen to it. Around 8:30 pm more cars started trickling in which was odd. Then more , and more. They clearly came in for the show everyone but us seemed to know about. These fireworks were insane. Made me pretty sad for the strait of Juan de fuca a place that should be kept pristine. Should be illegal in my opinion. But people suck and they don't care. I'll leave it at this, go support another Airbnb, or rental property that has the same views instead of this one.
