My husband purchased a Groupon for this spa for my birthday since all I wanted was a massage, lol. The package came with a 50 minute massage, 30 minute detox wrap, and classic pedicure, for about the price you'd pay for a massage (plus less with discounts and Rakuten cash back). SOLD! When I booked the appointment, I was told it was inside of a hotel and that the valet is $3. I was also told that they are not doing pedicures because of Covid (which is kind of strange - nail salons are open, right?) But I was told they would still do the paraffin etc and since I have no problem painting my own nails I figured that was fine.
So on my birthday Eve morning, I drove down there, and it was absolute insanity weather-wise. Crazy monsoon weather. I was surprised my car didn't stall out, it was so flooded (Fort Lauderdale is notorious for flooding). It was a bit challenging to find so I was a couple minutes late, but not bad. After 10 minutes of waiting in the valet line, the valet guy just shook his head NO at me. I had no idea what he was trying to tell me. When I finally spoke to him all he said was NO VALET. At this point I called Majesty and told them about the NO VALET situation and asked what I was supposed to do. They told me I could park at the courthouse, which I had no idea where the parking was located. So I eventually found it around the corner and it was some sort of official- only parking, like you had to use a badge to park there. I drove around in a circle trying to find normal courthouse parking and found nothing. I ended up just using the valet for another hotel (for $5). By the time I got to Majesty, I was 25 minutes late. I apologized profusely (even though it was not my fault.) By this point I was really stressed and in need of that massage!
I met Fabien who was very nice but very quiet and shy. That was fine. Once again I apologized profusely for being late due to the monsoon. I noticed the massage felt kind of fast.. like she barely spent any time on any one area. When it was over I felt like I must have been wrong, but when I checked my watch the massage was only a half hour, including dressing and re-dressing. Now if I had been told that since I was late it would have to be cut short I would have understood (sort of), but nothing was said. I was pretty confused. Especially since I saw her walking around after (in other words, it's not like she had another client).
After getting dressed, I was told to wait at the foot station. That was fine as it gave me opportunity to take selfie's with the cute crowns they had around. But then I was led back into the very same room and told to disrobe again for the detox wrap. I wish they would have just left me in there in one of the robes they had hanging in there or something. But not that big of a deal. I had no idea what the detox wrap would entail as there was no explanation in the Groupon or on their web page. I thought it would be like a spot treatment. But actually it was totally different than what I thought - you lie on the massage table with a heated pad beneath you and another pad above you (with sheets in between) and basically just sweat. Supposedly people burn 500-600 calories. I didn't feel like the sweating kicked in until the last couple of minutes, but maybe I did and just didn't know it. When the time was up, Q (Quinsy?) came in and rubbed some cold towels on my upper chest, arms, and legs. That was nice.
After dressing again, I went back to the foot area where Q did the feet part. First there was this cool jelly thing where the water turned to an almost slime-like consistency, then another chemical brought it back to normal water. It felt cool. Then Q wrapped my feets in plastic and did the paraffin. Q was super, super sweet and very easy to talk to. She made the experience way better with her really nice personality.
I also think the owner or manager was there too, talking to me and checking on things in the salon. She was nice.
The funny part is by the time I left there was not a cloud in the sky. Floriduh.
I think this is a nice spa and I'm glad I did it. Overall it was a good experience. But they do need a little work with communication. I would go back. read more
