While I was attending an event at the Kiitos bar, I saw that my food option was a dish from Makaya Caters' food truck. It's smart to team up with an establishment that doesn't offer food as a way to encourage patrons to try out your menu. There were pictures on their menu, but we were told by other guests that the food doesn't match the picture. I found that to be true. I ordered a chicken plate and it was very different than pictured. Although good, but if someone had expectations based on the pictures on the menu and was handed something else, it might be disappointing. The food was tasty-lots of flavor, and not overly spicey. We visited this food truck while attending the YELP ELITE Unity Block Party at Liberty Square. We initially gravitated towards this truck ordering the chicken plantain platter and a chicken platter with rice, black beans, and slaw. They have other options such as pork, and tofu as well. The plantains with the condensed milk sweet sauce is decadent and wonderful. This food is truly authentic and a must try. Walking through the farmer's market and looking for something to eat, I saw Makaya Catering serving up plates of Haitian food. I'm going to Haiti in November and have been interested in trying some Haitian food before going, but didn't think I'd have the chance in Utah! They were giving out samples and it tasted good, so I went ahead and tried it. I got a plate with marinated pork, rice, and pikliz. There was a sauce on the rice that tasted somewhat tomatoey. The pikliz was delicious, it's a haitian spicy relish, somewhat similar to coleslaw. I loved the flavor of it and thought it mixed very well with the pork and rice. The pork was delicious. Marinated for 24 hours and full of flavor. They also have various juices. I went with a passion fruit. It was really, really good. It was a little on the expensive side, like seemingly all food trucks, but $12 for the chance to try some Haitian food was well worth it. They were really nice and happy to talk to us about visiting Haiti. I'm looking forward to having more Haitian food! read more

All I have to say is... I will be getting the Haitian Plate every time that I go to the farmer's market. It was one of the most delicious things that I have ever had, and seemed truly authentic (I have never been to Haiti, so I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure that this is the real deal ). This food truck is legit!! If you're looking for takeaway, go here. I live around the corner and finally got a chance to try. We had the plantain dish and the rice & bean dish. Both were delicious and well-balanced. A very nice hint of spice throughout, which could feel too spicy to some. We recommend pairing with an old fashion, which can help take the edge off of needed. Also, if you're a safe eater, this food is amazing but also won't push you too far outside your comfort zone. It's warm has some familiar flavors. Don't let the price scare you; the portions are very generous we each easily got two meals out of each of our portions (and we both eat a lot). Roody was very kind, helpful, and informative. Side note: My friend is a medical provider and she insists I also note that Roody's sanitary practices were solid, which is important: because pandemic. He was very clean in how he prepared our food directly after someone else's (and delivering to his car): changed gloves, didn't directly touch our food, etc. I didn't notice because it's not something I would usually notice, but I find it comforting to know he impressed my doctor friend. PS my only critique is that Roody updates when/where he's going to be serving. The website is down and it's hard to know where he will he on a given night. This will help me find you :) read more

I have been to the food truck a few times to eat and I also purchase their Haitian spice blend. The spice blend is a must have for our pantry. Our favorite way to use the spice blend is on cabbage that we roast. The food in the food truck is delicious. I am by no means an expert on Haitian food, but I do know good food when I eat it. Often when I go to the farmers market it's to get food from here. I recommend giving it a try. read more

What a treat to catch Makaya Catering on a random Tuesday at a mini Farmers Market in which they crushed a Ratatouille special and of course their Tacos are always on point. I grew up in Miami where the ethnic food flows, so when I found these guys at the regular Saturday Farmers Market and it blew my mind. My boyfriend and I B-line it on Saturdays to their food truck for the best Haitian Food in SLC. All their meats they offer in their dishes are extremely well seasoned and you can tell have been roasted for hours because their chicken always falls off the bone. But if you want to try a bit of everything, you should 100% get their Haitian Plate and it will not disappoint. DELICIOUS! Makaya was very responsive to our initial requests to host a dinner for a group of 15 people at our Park City ski rental. He helped us customize a delicious menu within our budget and proposed a very reasonable price for an evening of his services. Unfortunately for us, our plans to have a private chef to our house changed last minute and we ended up having to cancel a week prior. Makaya was very professional and wished us a great vacation.
