This trip was specifically for my son who is wheelchair bound and he made sure that everything we did revolved around my son having the time of this life. We learned lots about the area, laughed till we cried and felt like we met our new best friend on Maui. I really wanted to be present with my group so the fact that Henry captured photos and took videos of the day was the main reason I chose him. We received both within a couple days and have shared the video and photos to everyone in our lives. To say this was a magical, amazing experience doesn't sum it up enough but if you are reading this, don't hesitate, BOOK WITH HIM NOW!

I booked a small group…read moretour led by Henry @rentamauiboy, and the reason I booked him was because he takes allllllll the photos. Traveling solo, it feels weird to take selfies everywhere or worse, asking someone to take your photo. The tour was me and 2 other couples: one couple were newlyweds and the other couple were on their very 1st trip together (as a couple). (Honestly where do you go after a trip to a Hawaii?!?) We could not have had a group that meshed BETTER than all of us. Our guide Henry clearly knew "the good spots" because we didn't stop anywhere that anyone else was... he made us climb down treacherous "root ladders" and walk through the coldest water up to our necks but his ideas were always SO worth it. And he captured the best pics! I highly recommend this EXACT excursion because you don't have to worry about any photos. He has it covered, and trust me, it's truly UNFORGETTABLE!!!

Tour: Waterfall & Rainforest Hiking Adventure. 5 hrs./Hotel Pickup…read more Pros: Our tour guide was outstanding. He did everything he could to make everyone feel comfortable, included, and safe despite the challenging conditions. His professionalism, patience, and positive attitude truly stood out, and he deserves every bit of a 5-star rating. We made sure he knew how much we appreciated his hard work. Cons: If you're expecting an experience similar to Waimea Falls--a beautiful, safe, and enjoyable way to explore nature--this tour is unfortunately nothing like that. The concierge at Hyatt appeared to have little understanding of what the trek actually involved. The entire route was muddy, slushy, and extremely slippery. People were constantly losing their footing on wet rocks, tree roots, fallen branches, and uneven terrain. In several places, a slip could have easily resulted in a serious injury. These hazardous conditions continued for virtually the entire hike. If Maui has experienced recent rainfall, I strongly recommend thinking twice before booking this excursion. The trail conditions can become genuinely dangerous, and in my opinion, the risk simply isn't worth it. I only wish someone had been honest with us before we spent the money and put our family in that situation. Please do your own research, check recent trail conditions, and don't assume that every guided excursion is appropriate simply because it's sold through a resort or has high ratings. I would gladly pay the same $250 per person (price we paid for a 5 hr tour - hotel pick up from Hyatt) for a well-maintained state-owned park with established safety measures and properly maintained trails. Unfortunately, this tour fell far short of those standards and simply wasn't the right experience for us.

We have taken three of their "Morning Walks" with our grandkids and it's a perfect introduction to hiking. Honestly we've had three different ...wonderful.. experiences. It's not strenuous and you're taken back to some private land that you'd not have access to if you just drove up and parked (if you found a parking spot) and hiked back in. We were lucky to have the lovely, fun, and knowledgeable guide named Randolyn ..aka Ran. She was the perfect blend of kind, patient and engaging with the grandkids, and very helpful with us old folks! On the drive on the way home she advised a few newbies to the island where some great places to eat were... they greatly appreciated her ideas! She had the most pleasant demeanor.... :) If you want a fun morning walk, call Hike Maui

The answer was Yes, one can change into swimsuits during lunch before the black sand beach visit and then change out of them at a stop after the waterfall stop to be dry for the ride back to the hotels. A few days before our tour I received an email confirmation that included other useful information, such as bring along swimwear, towels, water shoes and a light jacket for the air conditioned van. I had not considered the A/C and I'm always cold, so that is a very welcome heads-up. On the day of our tour we received texts that the driver was on his way. Pretty close to the scheduled meeting time the van pulled up to our resort. The van was spacious with huge windows. Our tour was full with all 12 passenger seats occupied. Our driver/guide was Travis. He was born and raised in Hana and was a wealth of knowledge about Hana, Maui, and Hawaii. He seemed to be related to all the locals he passed on the road. There was not dull moment. Among the stops along the way were Maui Tropical Plantation for breakfast, Auntie Sandy's Banana Bread stand for those that wished to purchase, Wai'anapanapa State Park (black sand beach, also with a lava tube and a blow hole), Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside Park (usually calm enough to swim but the falls were roaring due to rain earlier in the day), and Ho'okipa Beach with turtles on the beach. Travis was an excellent driver and guide. We got great value from the cost of the excursion. One minor thing did bother us. We are Jewish and were uncomfortable during the praising Jesus sing-along. Regardless, we recommend this tour and especially Travis as a guide.

Pickup was on time although they text us that morning saying the pickup would be 5-10 minutes early. While I appreciated the company's responsiveness in honoring my special seating request, our front (first) row seats on the bus labeled "Alaka'i" had a very narrow window that required us to strain our necks to see the views outside. I noticed that the other three Valley Isle buses on tours that day did not appear to have this issue. I provided the company feedback regarding this seating issue. In our humble opinion, these seats should not be sold. My advice: to avoid the kind of disappointment we experienced, you should always ask for seat reservations and note clearly and specifically to the company that you do not want the first row seats on a bus with seating configuration like Alaka'i's. If you don't and you are picked up last, you will risk getting stuck in these seats from sunrise to sundown. Regarding the amenities, the breakfast was underwhelming, consisting only of a pre-arranged plate of a few pieces of fruit and 2 small muffins. The driver did remind us this was going to be a continental breakfast. There are many versions of continental breakfast but this one truly disappoints. Additionally, the lunch provided, though delicious, was not from the "world-famous" Huli Huli chicken location as the guide led everyone to believe; instead, the guide brought pre-packaged boxes of food from another source. (Please see similar experience from earlier reviews.) My advice: feed yourself before they pick you up or bring something more fulfilling to eat on the bus between breakfast and lunch. Finally, while our driver was incredibly knowledgeable about Maui's culture and history, his demeanor was sometimes overbearing. He frequently called out guests for yawning or dozing off and insisted on undivided attention during his occasional politically biased historical recount. All this made part of the tour experience feel more like a classroom than a tour. He also ridiculed all the not-so-nice reviews he has received. He will probably tell you about this one, too. So buyers beware: your Valley Isle guide could be a bit too much fun for you. :-)

When we met him, he immediately committed our names to memory, and treated us like old friends all day. Kea did an amazing job of connecting with our 6-year-old son and kept him involved throughout the tour. I've done the Road to Hana twice before, but this was easily the best. Kea showed us things we hadn't seen, gave us interesting history lessons, and taught us a lot about the Hawaiian language and culture. He continually went above and beyond to make our tour unforgettable. I would encourage everyone to experience the Road to Hana, but it's so much better when you don't have to do the driving. Do yourself a favor and ask for Kea!

Overall the tour was educational, but not really structured…read more We arrived and were met by the guide who was full of energy...and for the sake of me, I can't remember his name..I think Ryan...but you'll know him when you see him. As an incentive planner, I try to find cool, unique and elevated experiences for my clients. I bought these tickets myself without any VIP or comps for me and my family to get the real experience. Here's the "not so good" - it just wasn't structured. We kind of hopped around without a solid plan, but by no means did we not get questions answered or not see what we wanted to. It's a very large farm, so we didn't see the entirety of it, but this is where a golf cart, or some sort of tram would be appropriate for small or medium groups, especially since we wanted to see parts of the farm that looked less traversed and more remote. Also...price. This was not worth the price we paid. A price point of $20-$35 would be more appropriate for the tour, whether 5 or 20 guests. I don't think we'd return anytime soon for this price point, but the guide was a great guy and really makes the tour more interesting. They just need more guidance and consulting on how to make a more professional tour structure, visuals, etc. as you would see on most any other tour around the world. The little trailer they have for meals is nice, but we did not eat on site on this visit. This is great for 5-10 guests...anymore would be a little challenging without a tram as it's 100% walking. The kids had a great time and were so thrilled to taste nuts and fresh coconut water right from the shell too! We walked about 2 miles in total but it was a nice leisurely stroll at our pace. He was in no rush, but kept to a good tempo. I think he wants to really expand this tour and grow more in to the region. I would say his love of the land can somewhat encompass the overall tour, but it was very good...I do hope he does incorporate more on how these nuts are formed, some visuals, maybe a small video of some sort as an intro for those who have never had or seen the nuts before. I would encourage him to provide stats as in to how many are grown, shipped, exported, uses and more as part of the tour. This is a great way to spend 1-2 hours learning about macadamia nuts, coconuts, and his love of farming and the land we live on. He's a Hawaiian hippie, but proud to be who he is and we loved that! It made the experience that much better and working with guys like him all my decades, I get and understand him. He did not rush us and he was receptive...but this just needs more structure and a lower price point.
