We didn't know what we wanted but the worked at the register was so patient and despite there being a few people in line behind us, she carefully and thoroughly gave us a brief summary of all the items on the menu. Her name was Melissa and she alone gets 5 stars! We didn't want anything incredibly sweet, but she kindly let us know that we can always opt for 1/4 sweet. There was also a list of drinks next to the register that were sugar free drink options. Win! I did want to try the Maui Milk that is unique to Makenna Koffee, so I didn't get an americano this time - but maybe next time! We got one or the yummy cold brews and I got one of the supreme drinks extra hot. Both tasty and we will certainly be back! The kind, positive vibes alone at this location were enough reason to come back. And the merch was cute too! Lots of open seating and a comfy area to hang and meet with people. This place is located in a very big plaza so there's plenty of parking. Found this place and was glad that I found it! searched up Biscoff lattes in the area and this popped up so I gave it a try. They offer a number of drinks & coffee, and pastries as well but I ordered their Bisco latte/cookie butter latte and this did not disappoint. I've never had anything like this before I loved how rich the Biscoff flavor was and they also add some kind of a special Hawaiian milk to it which I didn't mind but I also asked for this to be made in almond milk as well with no whipped cream. The moment I took a sip it was just Rich flavors bursting in my mouth. The only problem that I had with this place is that it's not closer to me, which is in the South Bay. I had gone to the Simi Valley location and it was amazing so I tried this Oxnard location because I was in the area and it was kind of weird and disappointing because when I ordered it was OK, but then I noticed that other peoples drinks were handed to them at their tables, but mine was called and I had to stand up and get it at the iPad area where people are taking orders and I've noticed at least four people got their drinks served to their hand when I had to go get mine myself. I'm starting off by saying this place gets 2 stars for the coffee and 1 star for the service I've received. I've visited both the Ventura and the Thousand Oaks locations, and my experience has been consistent. To me, this is a high-end Dunkin' Donuts and I don't even go there. The last time I had Dunkin' was about five years ago back home in Minnesota. I don't enjoy it because it tastes more like sugar with a splash of coffee rather than actual coffee and that's exactly how I feel about this place. I honestly don't understand why it's so popular. Most of the drinks taste extremely sweet. If you're looking for a sugary treat, a cheat-day drink, or something for your birthday, then this might be your spot. But if you genuinely enjoy coffee and want something balanced and bold, this probably isn't it. The only drinks I would personally order again are the cold brew or the Maui Mocha and even then, they're still on the sweeter side. One practical note: the Ventura location often has lines out the door. I'd recommend ordering online and picking up if you decide to try it. Makenna's is good but I think you really have to know what you like to get it right. My go-to is the Sandy Blonde but I always have to add an extra shot for it to taste like coffee to me. Most of their drinks are really sweet, i suggest you do 1/2 sweetened if you're not a fan of sweet drinks. Their matcha is not the best quality but they're not known for matcha so it's okay. Like I said you can modify everything so as long as you know what you like you can make it good. read more

The girl in the picture had waited on us and I am so sorry that I forgot her name. She smiled as we walked in and greeted us. Went today for my usual iced chai tea latte. The cashier that took my order was the only one concerned that my drink was made incorrectly. All other employees were TOO focused on each other and the music playing. The Simi Valley location I have the same experience where I live and now the same here in Ventura where I work. I'm so glad Makenna Coffee finally opened a permanent storefront--and clearly, I'm not the only one. The line is often out the door, and the wait doesn't stop once you order. Even though there always seems to be plenty of staff in the back, orders still take quite a while to come out. Online ordering doesn't speed things up much either--if you need it ready by noon, place your order for 11:30. That said, the space is beautiful. Inside, it's clean, white, and tidy with a slightly "selfie spot" vibe, but still very welcoming. There's plenty of indoor seating and a few outdoor spots as well, which makes it a great place to meet up with a friend or post up with a laptop. The coffee is amazing--light, refreshing, and full of flavor--and their pastries are top-tier. The lemon blueberry muffin is a must-try, whether you get it warm or cold. Truly one of the best around. This Ventura location definitely feels like Greek Frat/ Sorority Cafe. Most of the baristas employees appear like extroverted college young adults. I think that is the branding vibe and appeal of this shop (same types who worked Abercrombie Fitch or Hollister). There are so many working at once, sometimes it's hard to get someone attention when you actually get to the front if they're having animated conversations with each other. The drinks def. are on the sweeter side- this is for those Starbucks fans who favor Fraps and a dash of coffee essence in their sweeteners and creamers! If you know Dutch Bros. Up north, this is similar style- not for true coffee afficionados, but for those who love coffee concoctions, blended shakes etc. I think Makenna in general is very very busy, as lines can be long. I do appreciate that they have soy milk here as not many places have that anymore. Customer service was fantastic. I'm giving it a four star because I went in here before work and ordered a lavender Matcha latte with soy milk and light syrup. I was never asked if I wanted it hot or iced... So usually places will make it hot unless otherwise indicated. Unfortunately they made it. I will say that they offered to make me another one that was hot to correct their mistake, but unfortunately I did not have time to wait, I had to get to work. My friends have been raving about this coffee shop, so I was so excited to try it. Walking in, the first thing that caught my eye was the neon sign that says "Live life on the beach." I'm a sucker for a girly sweet drink and Makenna's Koffee definitely delivers on that promise. Being that I am not a "true sophisticated coffee" drinker this kind of an establishment is right up my alley! I'm so glad I stumbled in this week when they weren't busy as I had a really nice experience and am sold on loving this place. The vibes are vibing here. It's like being in Hawaii or San Diego with the bright pops of color and surfer vibes. It's definitely perfect to have this location in Ventura because we have plenty of surfers here but it's not as trendy and cozy as most downtown Ventura coffee shops as this one screams loud, energetic and trendy. I've been hearing the lines are typically out the door but I wandered in with only one person in front of me (which a manager noted was unusual) so I took it as a lucky break. The staff here are incredibly nice. All smiles and it seems like a fun place to work. One of the managers or owners appeared to be on shift and he was checking on different tables and seemed to have a great attitude, was very friendly. When I ordered at the counter Sophia (spelling?) helped me out. I loved that she was patient as it was my first time and she made me feel welcomed. I told her that I like sweet and girly drinks, but wasn't in the mood for coffee and she immediately recommended that I tried the surfer girl. She told me this drink would be very sweet and refreshing with notes of strawberry and coconut. The iced surfer girl is a 10/10 and honestly addicting because I've been wanting to race back to get it again ever since I last went. The drink tasted like heaven, think of the pink drink from Starbucks but 100 times better. If you're not in the mood for a coffee drink, this is a great option and I will definitely get this again. They have a really impressive menu here with so many options that I definitely need to study the menu more because there were so many good Looking drinks to try. The other good news is they have big goods, but I came around lunch so I didn't try anything but looking back at my pictures. I will definitely stop to get a chocolate chip muffin next time. It's nice that they have both drinks and food so you can make this a one stop shop. The interior was super cute and decorated really nicely that it did make me want to stop in to hang out. If you like frozen coffee and energy drinks with 50+ grams of sugar, this IS 100% the place for you. However, if you like actual coffee that doesn't taste like it's from the gas station, you are better off going to Peet's, Beacon, CBTL, or even Starbucks. They don't even have traditional espresso drinks listed on the menu and after one sip of my Americano, I can see why. I was very excited that a coffee shop was moving into a previously abandoned coffee shop and am sad to see that this does not live up to my expectations. read more

Got the Maui Latte with 50% Maui Milk - I didn't know what Maui Milk was, but it looked interesting. They have a diagram that shows how sweet your drink will be based on the amount of Maui Milk you put in your drink. I got it 50/50 - definitely sweet and might be on the sweeter side for some people. The drink was creamy and delicious with a hint of the espresso at the end. It was good for me, but it might not be your taste. I went here because my girlfriend raves about this place and I was in the neighborhood and thought I would surprise her at work.
