Funny enough, it was a barista at my favorite coffee shop who recommended I give this place a try, not because it was better than Beacon, but because it was another great option while in Oxnard. I was a bit skeptical at first, but once I arrived and saw the owner roasting his own beans outside, my concerns were quickly put to rest. Overall, the coffee shop is great. The baristas are always friendly and helpful, and even though the place is often busy and packed, their customer service never falters. As for the drinks, I can only speak to their espresso and basic coffee, but in that area, they do not disappoint. While I don't think the roast is quite as good as Beacon, it is a very strong second in the area. I came here on a Friday morning with my sister and the wait wasn't too long. Chill environment, some people were working or studying, and music wasn't too loud. I was planning to get a coffee but once I saw that they're serving Hojicha now I had to get a Hojicha latte instead. First time here, and first time at the Oxnard TTC. The cafe is located inside the waiting area, which is surprisingly nice, clean and quiet. The staff is really nice and helpful. Got me a flat white with oat milk, and matcha financier. Coffee is nice and bold. They have warmed up the financier, which is a plus, and it tastes really good too. I wish I had bought more. This place is way far from where I live, but I don't care. I love this place so much I don't mind the drive. The espresso drinks here are consistently excellent. The coffee beans they use are top quality, and each drink is hand crafted perfection. My usual order is a cappuccino and a croissant with apricot preserves. I always ask for my croissant to be warmed up. Then they serve it up with the preserves already spread inside the croissant. I thought it was weird the first time I was served with preserves already applied, but I kinda like it that way now. Less messy. I don't end up with Sticky Fingers. I like trying sit at the comically small tables in front of the cafe. No one my size should ever try to squeeze into the ridiculously uncomfortable seats that are attached to the comically small tables. I know this but still every time I go I do the same stupid routine, trying to squeeze my big fat ass into one of those tiny seats. Some day someone will surreptitiously video my struggle to wiggle into a spot, send the video into America's Funniest Home Videos and win $20K. Most of the time if a place has uncomfortable seating, I'm reluctant to return. But I like Dolce Vita so much I don't even care about the seating. I could get my espresso drinks to go, and avoid the seating issue altogether, but no way would I do that. I like my drink served up in a proper ceramic coffee cup. And the ceramic cups here are just exactly perfect. I especially love the little red star you find in the bottom of each cup. It's saying like, hey, you did a really good job on that cappuccino, here's a little reward in recognition for all your efforts. You can't help but smile when you get your red star. On my most recent visit I discovered that Will (the owner) now has his own blend of beans. So you can choose to have your espresso made with the usual totally excellent intelligentsia beans, or Will's in house blend. I went with Will's beans, and I think they'll be my preference from now on. Every time I visit Dolce Vita I feel like my business is appreciated. So the seating area is not fancy, but the cafe corner is warm and has a cozy European feel. The owner is a real barista who is highly concerned about precision and quality for his coffees. The cafe also offers unique flavors here that aren't common in other chain coffee shops (Lavender, chaga, dulce de leche, tumeric, etc). If you enjoy quality coffee that is more carefully crafted, this is your place. Only 12 oz sizes are available so it's more about quality than quantity. This reminds me of artisan places like Butter and Fold and Cafe Ficelle (I don't usually order their coffees, but their dedication to European baking techniques). The prices are average to any coffee shop, but you don't get this quality just anywhere.
