It was date night with one of my boys. We decided to check out this cute little spot since we were both craving Asian dishes. I love that they have the sushi chef out in the open. I always love to watch them and the art of food. We started off with their Gyoza. They were ok. We weren't too fond of the filling. My son ordered the steak hibachi dinner. I got the Pad Thai. The steak was so tender and yummy. My Pad Thai was delicious. They used thin noodles and the spice level was perfect. It was a nice experience overall. Our server was great!! We will revisit!!

Great new quaint sushi/asian food place. The service was very friendly and food was served pretty quickly. The food was good quality too. Didn't get to try more of the sushi- just got a spicy tuna roll and tamago nigiri. Both were delicious! The steak from the hibachi was very tender and flavorful. The pho wasn't the taste of pho that I'm used to, but it was still good. Didn't expect an amazing pho from a more Japanese food place. We will definitely be back to try more sushi next time!

First time trying this place. I ordered the Pad Thai. I hate to write a negative review but I was very disappointed. It was so salty I couldn't even eat it. I had high hopes for this place. Not sure if I'll ever go back?

    Tastes excellent too

This place has excellent pad thai, pho, and sushi. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE. The service is outstanding. I try to support locally owned businesses and this place is a jewel for Mentor. The owner gives his dishes alot of creativity and love. This place is not to be missed. They do take out too.

Honestly, you're missing out on more than just a meal--you're missing out on the best part of your week! This isn't just a restaurant; it's hands-down my favorite place to be. The food here is nothing short of spectacular. Whether you're craving the theatrical flair of the Hibachi grill or the delicate artistry of their sushi bar, Tomi delivers every single time. Two absolute "must-orders" that will change your life: * The Mango Tango Roll: A tropical explosion of freshness that dances on your palate. * The Angry Tuna Roll: The perfect balance of spice and depth for those who want a little kick with their crunch. What truly sets Tomi apart isn't just the high-end cuisine--it's the people. The staff is incredibly lovely and engaging, making sure your glass is never empty and your smile never fades. But the real magic comes from the owners. They are some of the most humble, genuine people you will ever meet. They don't just run a business; they welcome everyone like family. They actually take the time to get to know you, turning a simple dinner into a meaningful connection. The Bottom Line: From the first bite of sushi to the last laugh at the hibachi table, Tomi Japanese Steakhouse is an experience that feeds your soul as much as your appetite. Go see them--you can thank me later!

First of all, the place is beautiful. You will want to stand and stare a minute when you first arrive, from the cherry blossoms overhead to the gorgeous art painted on the walls. We were welcomed immediately and seated quickly. Our waitress was attentive and efficient, again this was no small task with a bit group at a very busy time. She made great recommendations and we started with several appetizers for the table: Crab rangoon Mozzarella stick, Goyza, and crunchy rice with avocado. They were all good and cooked to perfection, but the Crab Rangoon Mozzarella sticks were show stoppers. This is fun fusion at its finest, and everyone agreed we could have just lived on those. We had to put in sushi orders early as there was a bit of a backup with the kitchen, but our server did a great job of keeping us informed about the timing and made all the entrees work out so people getting hot dishes got them at the same time as people who ordered cold dishes. I had the sora roll which is another great fashion dish with a simple tempura shrimp and avocado roll upscaled by adding thin slices of wagyu beef, spicy mayo and dark sweet soy. I loved the combo. My wife had the peking duck and said it was fantastic with a good bit of flavor and a hint of kick, cooked to perfection so it didn't get dry. My son had the mushroom risotto which he said was very flavorful, and carried a bit of asian spiciness. Other people at the table had sushi, the katsu chicken, and the crab fried rice. No one was disappointed! Finally my wife and I split the smoked creme brûlée and all I can say is, you should save room for dessert because this was a fantastic spin on a classic! The only thing I would note is that it's not a quiet restaurant. Do not expect to have a hushed or private conversation here, but even with the big group I could still hear everyone, so it's not like it's ear splitting or anything. Honestly, every part of this experience impressed me and I would love to go back next time I'm in town.

I didn't even get an order for food in until an hour plus after I was sat and didn't get the food until an hour after that, it was a big yikes The management did give me a gift card but I honestly would rather they just staffed better. the sushi- really disappointed, especially after all the great reputation. the pricing- quite high, especially for the amount of sushi received. The restaurant shares this beautifully restored landmark estate with an inn featuring ten unique suites on the upper floors, creating a destination that feels both elegant and intimate. The dining space is laid out across several rooms filled with antiques, floor-to-ceiling bookcases, and fireplaces. This layout not only adds to the sophisticated, fine-dining aesthetic but also helps significantly reduce noise, making for a much more intimate experience. The atmosphere is further elevated by the live music, which strikes the perfect volume to complement the mood without overpowering conversation. The menu, led by Executive Chef Jose Coronado, is interesting because it blends his Guatemalan heritage with Mediterranean, Asian, and Latin American influences. It doesn't feel forced, though; the dishes are creative but remain approachable. What stood out to me most was the kitchen's commitment to preparation. Everything is made from scratch on-site, including things you don't always think about--like their house-made ketchup and custom-pickled olives. They also source locally from Kirtland, Willoughby, and Mentor whenever possible, and the seafood and meats tasted noticeably fresh, not frozen. The staff is truly spectacular; you can tell they genuinely enjoy working here, and they were super attentive throughout our visit. One detail I appreciated is their no-tipping policy; they include a 20% service charge on every bill, which goes toward providing their staff with a living wage, health benefits, and paid time off. It makes for a stress-free experience at the end of the meal. The highlights from our meal: * Drinks:Velvet Island Old Fashioned, Enchanted Garden, and the Cherry Royal. * Small Plates:Lightly Cured Halibut, Smoked Royal Miyagi Oysters (the standout for me), Short Rib Croquettes, the seasonal Unagi Smoked Eel, and the house-made focaccia. * Entrées: Yakitori Surf & Turf and the Seared Alaskan Halibut. The setting is unique, and whether you're local or just passing through Northeast Ohio, this is definitely worth a visit if you appreciate scratch-made food, thoughtful hospitality, and a refined atmosphere. I'm looking forward to going back.
