Our group was 10 people and Chris and his team were able to accommodate us on less that a days notice. We were all beginners or first-timers. The coaches were patient, energetic and very encouraging which made for an amazing day. We were provided boards and wet-suits and after a quick lesson on the sand we were in the water surfing. The best surf coach on the west cost!!! I wanted to make my surfing better so I hired Malibu Surf coach to help me progress my surfing abilities. Learning how to pull into slabbing barrels and do big airs has always been my main goal. Thanks to Chris also known as "The Stingray" I was able to learn how to navigate steep heavy drops and pull into thick slabby barrels. Not only did he guide me on the process but he even showed me how to do it first hand. By the end of our first session together I had learned so much about the ocean I didn't know. After my 3rd week straight learning from Malibu Surf coach I started landing some cool airs and by the end of the summer my goals were complete and I went on to Surf in Indonesia and practice getting pitted. Had the first of three private lessons so far. Tony Z was my instructor. He welcomed me in a friendly manner and we went off to the beach where we started on the sand and then moved to the water. Tony was super nice and full of wisdom and good advice about surfing but also about the ocean in general. Since our original review (where we discussed our complete dissatisfaction with being stood up for our lesson) we have been contacted a number of times by both the office manager and owner, Chris. They have gone out of their way to try to make amends to our family for the glitch in their scheduling system as well as taking total responsibility for their error & the negative impact it had on our family. Although best case scenario would have been for the lesson to occur, mistakes happen and this company has taken the ownership to try to make it up to us as best as they could. It's been six months since my first lesson through Malibu Surf Coach. These guys are legit, which is why I've been surfing consistently with them since June. Born and raised in Southern California and I had never even attempted to surf until this year. Upon reflection, I'm SO incredibly grateful to have met both Chris and Matt and would highly recommend them as instructors to anyone, regardless of your age or level of surfing experience. They'll provide you with the gear (if you need it), crucial safety tips and guided instruction (wave catching & riding techniques), both on land and in the water. They're knowledgeable and they listen, even if you're fearful of the waves, rocks, etc. They're calm and are such talented surfers. I've surfed at Chris's private beach spot as well as at Broad Beach, in a group setting and one on one. These dudes are so chill, yet super reliable and I'm beyond stoked about the progress that I've made these last few months, thanks to their guidance. Overall, I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I had a great time during my Sunday morning lesson with my surf coach Anthony! He was very personable, cordial, and patient! He gave me some incredibly helpful tips on how to properly "pop up" on the board. When I successfully rode a wave, he was very complimentary. And he also gave me critiques on how to better improve my subsequent rides. He provided me with a wealth of need-to-know vocabulary that every surfer should be aware of when out on the ocean! I'm husband had an amazing time with Tony way back in October. This review is a long time coming but we've a little preoccupied. I accidentally cut off my finger the day after the surf lesson (while I was 8 months pregnant. true story). But now that the chaos has died down -- our new baby and my finger are both doing great -- we feel these guys deserve some praise. Better late than never! Especially because we plan on booking another class with Tony this weekend. Tony was so so so cool and patient with us during and even before the class. We were running a little late and he was nice enough to wait for us. And Chris was also really sweet and attentive during the booking process and helping us find the correct location. My husband is not as comfortable as he'd like to be in the ocean but Tony made him feel at ease and had a ton of fun. Tony had him standing on the board after just a few tries. I'm still jealous! WOW 5 Stars. I would give 10 stars if such an option existed. My wife and I just had an amazing Sup lesson with Spencer Regan. Patience and skill are just a couple words to describe Spencer's professionalism. He didn't rush us through the lesson...clear explanations to make things easy he even took extra time to ensure we learned proper body mechanics on land and water. He went above and beyond and shot videos of myself and wife standing and wiping out lol. And just when you thought we were finished we had body boards we never used. Spencer could have easily said, "sorry lessons over I have to move on" but no way. My man Spencer again went above and beyond and provided visual demonstrations and cues on how to use the newly purchased body boards. It was my wife's first time and he made her day. Super happy. Chris was awesome, from start to finish. He's very friendly, helpful and was flexible with start time when we had our lesson (we drove up from the South Bay, so that was clutch.) I've taken other surfing lessons in the past, and never have I learned as much as I did with Chris. Spent the day with Steele our Surf Coach in Santa Monica. He did not disappoint!! We had lessons for about 10 to 15 family members, taking turns and everyone got up on the surf board! Yes, everyone. He scaled the lesson to fit my needs, and because of that I was able to stand up and ride an intermediate wave during my second lesson. The best part of the experience was chatting with Chris about the ocean, the surfing life, and gaining an insight as to why so many people get addicted to the feeling surfing gives you.
