It's the perfect mix of great coffee, surf culture, and energetic young people. It's also one of my favorite spots to bring my Leica and capture candid black-and-white moments. The coffee menu is always fun to explore, and this time we spent a little longer deciding what to order. I was worried we were holding up the line, but the barista was incredibly patient. They walked us through the menu, answered all our questions, and kept reassuring us not to rush. That kind of genuine hospitality is rare these days. Came here on a Saturday morning and only had to wait around 15 minutes to get to the cashier. I asked for a recommendation as someone who typically drinks black coffee and wanted something a little sweet and he suggested the cold brew with cold foam which was pretty good. We ordered their breakfast sandwich and burrito and both were great but I would probably come back just for the burrito. The line can get long so just anticipate that. We stopped here for coffee on the weekend. The shop is super cute, with an airy, coastal aesthetic. There's a lot of seating around the place so it looks like a nice place to get a coffee and catch up with friends. Service was friendly and we got our drinks quickly. My husband's coffee was good but I got the matcha here and it wasn't great. I got the matcha latte with almond and it tasted like almond milk. I also saw that they had stored the matcha in a clear glass container which is not the right way to store it (it needs to be stored in a dark, airtight container). They play music that gives beach vibes. The drinks don't seem to have strong matcha content. My friend tried a regular matcha but I wanted strawberry matcha. My drink was sweet but she said her drink was too milky and not strong enough. It is pricier for the portion. Each drink was $8-9 because they charge for milk substitutes. We have been here a couple times now, but the kitchen has clearly changed over the last few years. The coffee was good, latte and drip. The food was a major disappointment though. The scramble is not a scramble like it used to be. It's an omelet overcooked with cheese inside and veggies thrown on top that didn't even match what the menu listed. The response when I returned the meal was this is how we do scrambles. There is no confusing an omelet for scrambled eggs. So after reading some reviews on this place I was nervous to come try it! With anything I think you should go in with an open mind. Walking in the place is so spacious and is very aesthetic! They had a great area for sitting! They also sell a variety of things inside like clothes and little trinkets! I got up to the register to order and they didn't really welcome us or say anything. We ordered our drinks and one of the drinks was just sitting in the waiting area and the other drink they brought to us! Customers service I would say is lacking! They didn't give the vibes of being rude but they just seem to not really care. While I sat there drinking my coffee I was seeing them interact with other customers and it was basically all the same. What I love most about daydream is how welcoming a space it is. It's light and bright with all kinds of different merchandise and apothecary, including surfboards and wetsuits. There is literally something for everyone. Also excellent spot to go to to buy unique gifts. I was really impressed with their food options, and everyone working there is just happy and really enjoys their job, you can feel it. I was blown away by how excellent the avocado toast was! I don't know how they do it, but it was simply excellent. I am quite the avocado toast connoisseur, so I will go back! The sourdough bread was toasted to perfection, including the avocado spread with the chili pepper olive oil scallion blend with a hint of lemon, just perfect! I've been a fan of Daydream Coffee for a long time and always loved the vibe and community, which is why this was so disappointing. This morning around 8:55 AM, my friend and I walked in and were immediately met with rude attitudes from the staff. The girl at the counter gave us a weird look, and while we were trying to decide what to order, two girls by the coffee machine kept looking at each other, looking at us, and whispering. Even if they weren't talking about us, that kind of behavior while customers are standing right in front of you is uncomfortable and unprofessional. I've worked retail and in coffee shops before, and it made us feel completely unwelcome.We ended up leaving and going to another coffee shop instead. read more

I love this shop so much every time I visit. I got the one and fun and it's was so good. I really liked the flavors our their beans here. You get a Cortado (you can choose your flavors but I had the barista make it however they want) a shot of espresso and tonic water. This left me very much alert and awake for the day! Haha We love the shop that's inside as well I always get a new shirt when we are in town. Came here for the vintage market they had our back - super fun experience! Small but great vendors with unique pieces. Lots of cool people to mingle with. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, which immediately set the tone for a great experience. I ordered a drip coffee and an iced vanilla latte, and both were excellent. The drip coffee was smooth and well balanced no bitterness, just solid, quality coffee. The iced vanilla latte was refreshing and perfectly sweetened, not overpowering, and clearly made with care. I also ordered the Breakfast Burrito, and it absolutely delivered. Wrapped in a warm flour tortilla, it was filled with fluffy cheddar scrambled eggs, perfectly seasoned herb butter home fries, and their signature Daydream sauce, which tied everything together beautifully. I chose the smoky chipotle salsa, and it added just the right amount of heat and depth without overpowering the other flavors. Every bite was satisfying and well thought out. The space is huge, they also have a retail store of some sort with a basketball hoop in back. Parking is pretty good with street parking and a little lot. Daydream surf shop is... dreamy! It's part coffee shop, part surf & clothing shop off of 16th Street in Costa Mesa, with the entrance being in the back. It'd be easy to miss if it weren't for their big sunny welcome sign out front. Upon arrival, I was surprised how crowded it was. It seemed to be filled with the 20-30 yr old crowd who were hanging out with friends enjoying their morning cup of Joe. It had a very chill vibe to it. I asked the barista if he could make a Borgia (mocha with orange zest). He said he'd certainly give it a try! I was impressed by his willingness to give it a go despite the fact that it wasn't on their menu. As they were creating my drink, I walked through their retail store section and was glad that they called my name within 5 minutes or I would've walked out of there doing much more damage to my credit card if I had stayed any longer. They had so many cute outfits and misc items! The Borgia wasn't totally rad. I think it lacked the orange flavoring. I'm not sure if they used orange zest or something else, but again... A for effort! I also ordered a pop tart that was full of flavor! Definitely recommend. I will certainly stop by in the future, but next time I'll try one of their tried and true coffee concoctions. read more

Continuing my way through Drift coffee recommendations, I was in Orange County for the day and had to try what was a combination of a surf shop and a coffee shop. The ambiance of this coffee shop was unlike any other: a cool, laid back surf shop that was very open with much natural light. And as you progress through the shop, there is a coffee shop with much indoor and outdoor seating, leading to a very nice vibe in a beach town. The staff were very friendly, they almost reminded me of the artsy areas of Los Angeles, such as Los Feliz and Silverlake. Nevertheless, they had their own, more laid back vibe, yet very helpful. The coffee was great, and I could tell they used micro-roasted beans. The prices were also fair, and it led to a very nice afternoon coffee on a warm day in Newport Beach.
