Had not been in this location since I was a young kid. It still looks the same and the staff here are extremely friendly. This time around I needed a simple job done. I brought in a watch and needed a few bands taken off of it so it fits. They sized me up and told me to come back in a few days. The cost was $20 - sent it in on Thursday and received it on Tuesday. Stopped in today while passing through to get a watch band for my dad. All I can say is WOW! Immediately the staff began working with him on what he was looking for & installed the band. If that wasn't enough the young lady working there helped put it on my dad's wrist who is 84. Shared some stories and pictures and smiles. This is good old fashioned service. While waiting I looked around and they have absolutely beautiful jewelry at what appeared to be very fair prices. I'm from out of state but would love to have a jeweler like this close by. read more

Wife and I visited to see about a repair to her wedding set. They were very helpful and informative. Gave us a full range of options. Very patient with us. Decided to have a new custom made band made with her original diamonds. Took a couple of weeks which is what they described. I must say the ring exceeded our expectations. My engagement ring is 57 years old. The diamond is very small but the ring holds a great sentimental value. 2 prongs had broke off and the diamond fell out. I actually found the diamond and brought the ring to Malinich Jewelers to see if they could repair it. They did a remarkable job. They added 2 extra prongs and set the diamond down a tiny bit. The ring is beautiful and should last forever!!! The way they repaired it, even made the stone look larger. I would recommend this shop to all my family and friends. read more

I agree with the review from Ryan N. If you are not part of their family or friends, you will be treated terribly at this store. I purchased 2 Christmas gifts here in December 2017. I went back this year to purchase a White Gold Cross as another gift. I had to order it from a book. When the item came in it was so small and misrepresented that it was a joke. In the meantime one of the Christmas gifts was a pair of (supposed) sterling silver earrings that had turned black. I brought the earrings back and was told they would clean them. (Really) Then I said I wasn't Happy with the size of the cross and would like to look at another one. The owner told the girl waiting on me that I had to take the cross because it was a special order. This place sells only costume jewelry. You can buy better stuff at Kohl's or J.C. Penny. Very disappointed. Brought in two diamond wedding bands for cleaning and polishing. After a week and a half, they were finally ready, and still dirty. Had to leave them again for five more days before pick up. Mentioned this to another reputable jeweler in the area, and they checked the diamonds. There were 14 loose diamonds in the bands. The bands were fine before I drop them off. Do not know what is happening at the shop, but since the daughters are no longer there, it is horrible. Poor workmanship and service. read more

STAY AWAY. Jeweler wantabes. Have taken watches for new batteries. Backs and edges have been nicked. Overlooked figuring the back no one would see. This last one topped them all. Coating around face of watch edges completely scraped off. Band and watch face edges (grey matte silicone finished) discolored probably from some cleaning solution. Watch is not presentable to wear. A kid could have pryed the back off better than this so called jeweler. A ruined watch all for a $3 battery change in a watch that is only 1 1/2 yrs old. This was the first battery change on this watch. A person goes to a jeweler for jewelry repairs, NOT FOR JEWELRY TO BE DESTROYED. Shame on Malinich. Again I repeat STAY AWAY. read more

Was in this store (more like a closet) a few weeks ago looking to get a ring for my wife for our anniversary. Was looking for something simple and elegant, but the young blonde helping me was trying to "push me" into purchasing something different and more extravagant. It was not like I did not have the money, but I know what my wife likes and this young woman did not. She claimed to be the owners daughter, but was more of a brat when I told her my opinion of her "choosings". There was a sweet, older woman (blonde with a raspy voice) who was so nice to me and tried to make up for, and assist me in my search. Needless to say, due to my experience with the young woman, I will not be returning. If the owners decide to get a professional employee, maybe my opinion will change. read more

Malinich installed a new watch battery for me. I didn't look at the watch until the next morning and noticed that a dial on it was spinning rather fast. I went back and asked him to take a look at it. I asked as nicely as I could if maybe he installed an incorrect battery or nicked something while installing the battery. I explained that the dial on the watch was not spinning fast when I brought it in for the new battery. He told me it was a specialized watch and I should contact Seiko and/or send it to them to check it out. He started getting defensive and raising his voice at me. The woman there was nice and told me that he was frustrated with watch batteries. I'm not sure what that meant. Was he frustrated with the quality of watch batteries he was getting? Was he frustrated with having to install watch batteries? Was he frustrated with complaints about watch batteries? Was he frustrated with people coming in with the $2 coupon for a watch battery install? In any case, I was just looking for an answer about my watch. I am willing to accept that this dial spinning fast was a coincidence with a new battery install. I didn't know why the watch dial was spinning fast and I tried to talk with him about possible explanations, and more importantly, what to do to fix it. The fact that he raised his voice at me and took out his battery frustrations on me made me decide to leave their store and never go back. I then took the watch to Roger Bonnema, a jeweler in South Holland. He looked at the watch and had it working properly five minutes later. It turns out, there was nothing wrong with the watch. Roger explained to me that the fast spinning dial was a function of the alarm - an alarm I didn't even know the watch had. Shame on me for not knowing about the functions of the watch, but if Malinich had just taken a few minutes to try to diagnose that fast spinning dial on the watch, I think that visit to them would have ended cordially and this review would not exist. I was going to give Malinich one star instead of two, but everyone has a bad day once in a while, and I didn't know that this dial in question was part of the alarm function of my watch. read more

they messed up on engraving a silver charm for a bracelet. they tried to fix it and ultimiately had to order me another charm, which was the wrong size. a year later, they messed up on engraving again and tried to fix it by polishing out the engraving and re-engraving in the charm. however, when they polished out the old engraving, they polished out all the detail of the charm...it looked awful. i actually told them to just throw it away it looked so bad. they could have cared less. i didn't even get an apology, nothing. i will never go back there and encourage anyone in the market for jewelry to NOT shop there. what a headache! read more
