Nice group of full time rvers. Management is trying to put together weekly events for everyone enjoyment. Proximity to Chicago and the Fox River access is great. The bad: dusty roads, failed electrical and water mutliple times. Sewage system really bad, we went three days without being to dump because system was overwhelmed and over flowing and the only employee could so anything was at another campground. Very little maintenance activity on bathrooms, dumpsters (always overflowing after weekend, just need one extra dump on Saturday) or common areas. The Ugly: The deal is this, rules are published and agreed to but there is zero enforcement activities by the management. Come Friday night the seasonal weekenders show up and it gets really crazy. Golf carts speeding, some music blaring, around well into the night (at times 2:30 in the morning) being driven by not only adults, some intoxicated, but also by underage drivers (same ones over and over). The common areas as well as pool and hot tub are overrun by adults, drinking, smoking and swearing. In fact passing out jello shots and some drunk guy in the hot tub talking about how big his privates are. Not a safe or desirable place for children. More then once, high schoolers making out in the pool, children in the pool area unsupervised, and constant food in the pool area. It basically is a party place on the weekend. Can no longer recommend as suitable place to camp.

They cheerfully replied it wasn't a problem and everything would be waiting for us. The owner met us at the building. Gave us our passes and map, showed us our site went over everything. The grounds were beautiful and campers there say it's getting better every season. The dog park was even beautifully kept. The sites ranged from very wooded to open areas. The pool is very clean with a family atmosphere with other campers. It's on the med-small side. We will definitely be returning next season.

The restrooms behind the store are great. The water has no unpleasant smells or taste. The grass is well maintained. We had a heavy rain while camping here, and most sites seem to dry up pretty quickly. There were only a few sites that held water for the day. Easy, quick access to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. The roads through the park are well maintained and were designed to be wide enough for large rigs to turn. I've been to sites that have narrow roads and it's a pain; not here. Mature trees in most sites proved adequate shade. The tent sites here are awesome. I would definitely recommend tent camping here. The playground is cool. I seemed to attract a lot of children for sandbox fun. Con (1): Don't book A2, A3, or A4 if you plan to sit outside much. The interstate noise at those sites is overbearing. Your views will be construction trash, storage building, and apartment parking lot. It almost feels like those sites are not in the campground and the road/trees work like a megaphone (amplifies the road noise). They are perfect for RVs passing through and staying one night.

They popped up in my Google search for places near where we were. The owner was super helpful and was also mindful of making sure our last minute check in was contactless to maintain social distancing. The lake is closed right now due to Covid, but it looks lovely. The campground is clean and well maintained, plus every spot has a nice picnic table and a fire pit. We only needed a one night stop over, but it's now definitely on our list to come back to and spend more time there--especially once everything is able to open back up again. My husband and I met David G. At the camping show in Rosemont Illinois. He seemed nice enough to my husband and I even though he made derogatory remarks about Four Star Campground. We decided not to check out Four Star because of the remarks he made. He said the campground housed all types of campers "he said transients" year round. He also said yeah go check them out then come by us. So I tried to book an appointment with David G. for the same day because my husband had a rare day off. David G. wasn't available so I tried to make an appointment for myself to come see the campground. He said, welllll, why not talk to your husband when he can make it. I said, he can't make it any other day because he works 7 days a week. He then said, welllll why not talk to your husband and when he can make it we will book the appointment. So I said you are basically saying you won't tour me until my husband is present. He said no but your husband will be involved in the decision so he needs to be present. I assured him I was capable of making a decision without him. But he kept saying talk to you husband. What's the matter with this guy? Is he living in the 1930's where a female can't make a decision? I have never been so insulted. He made me feel because I was a female i couldn't make this decision. David females (spouses) this day and age can make decisions, sign contracts and put deposits down without their husbands being present. Shame on you for trying to make me feel inferior. Let me just tell you that by the time we left I had booked another weekend and signed up to be on a wait list for a permanent spot. I fell in love with this campground and will cherish the memories we made this Labor Day weekend. From the moment we pulled in I knew I had found something special and a place we would come back to for years to come. This campground feels wonderfully nostalgic yet it's very up-to-date, it is meticulously clean and the grounds are kept nearly perfect. Staff and permanent guests are so very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The owner is very present and you can tell he loves what he does. Prices were fair and I NEVER felt the price gorging and extra charges so many other campgrounds have resorted to. My kids have been to MANY campgrounds but by the time we left they were saying this was their favorite! (My little guy asked to have his next birthday there.) This campground is for family, friends and a lifetime of memories! If you are thinking about booking a stay, give it a try, you will not regret it!

The boardwalk is a lot older and more worn now, but it's still nice to stop, and there's a vantage point to look out on the river. I used to see beaver activity around the boardwalk, but not recently. The marina also of course offers a place to launch your boat for a fee, boat storage, RV storage and they do offer camping. I believe the three shed/cabins added several years ago are available for rent as well. When we drove through on our most recent visit, they'd added some beach camp sites with power. There's a playground, fire pits for the campsites and picnic tables.
