There is a lot to be said about this place in my opinion.
This is a full of history cottage know to be one of the oldest standing original style for this old as time town. charming and amazing I must say.The entire cottage is pretty well decorated with a old town vibe, they have an open kitchen where you can see the food being cooked; the most interesting thing about that to me is that the so called kitchen is right behind the bar, so you can sit at the bar and have a drink while you watch all the kitchen movement and work being done, I though that was a vey interesting concept right there.
I have tried to get a table here at least 3 different occasions to no avail, at the same time I felt that the staff had a level of indifference to if I do or do not get to eat there. they have absolutely no concern for the customer when it comes to accommodating one party into getting a table here, no matter how long you have left on your vacation, this is definitely not a hospitality and customer satisfaction oriented business.
Moving on from my bitterness about this journey, the third time trying and finally I got a table here, I must point out that I made this reservation about a month before I went there.
Keep in mind that they have brunch here and it seems to be a very well talked about event at the cottage, if possible try to experience their brunch, I went for the dinner but I will at some point attempt to brunch here as well.
As we arrived I could observe that all tables are taken and there is always a couple or two at the hostess stand trying to get a last minute table who opens due to a canceled reservations ( which seems to be a rare event here).
We get greeted and sit at our table. The menu is pretty small (short and sweet) seems to be on the hipster style, a lot of home garden grown stuff, face sauce names and very particular looking staff to tight up the whole boho chick look of the place.
As they have an a la carte style here they also provide this special family style experience, we decided to go for the family style as it is the recommended dining experience here.
We started with our drinks:
SIGNATURE COCKTAIL- I had the fruity cocktail choice that had apparel and bitters with rum, I am not sure the name but it was perfect for me as I am a sweets lover.
FAMILY STYLE: this is a dining experience that is at the chefs choice of platters, they all come as a sample from the menu itself so you will always be able to reference from the menu what you are having, the amount of food you will get from the family style is amazing, sizable portions and many different plates will come your way.
Another cool thing is that the server let us know that if we wanted something specific they would do their best to make it happen during the family style experience and I though that was pretty nice of him.
BREAD AND BUTTER- they give you a complementary basket of bread with their house butter, it is fresh and tasty
SCALOP CRUDO: citrus roast garlic oil, chili flakes and mint, these scallops were to die for.
BLUE MUSCLES: onion, garlic and white wine sauce, it was pretty good, nothing super special though. if I was doing the a la carte I would say to skip this one.
ROAST MIXED BEETS: topped with pesto parm, these are a selection of home grown in their backyard garden, the beets were pretty great and they also had some white beets, I had never tasted them before, the pesto made the salad a lot more special.
COD CHEEKS- we were very happy to experience the cheeks as they were a main reason we came here for this was their " make it happen" for us, came as a bruschetta style. This appetizer was pretty nice and not fishy at all, very well balanced.
CALIFORNIA STRIPLOIN- broccoli, cauliflower, chimi churri, braised scallops, this steak was cooked to perfection, tasted amazing. we were so full by the time the main course came but we could to stop munching on this.
CORN FRIED COD CHEEKS- hummus, radicchio and honey vin. just there are no words to explain how good this fried heaven was. we wee all over it even though we were so full. this is definitely worth the overeating.
ASSORTED CHEF`S SELECTION OF DESERTS- with different types of sorbets and mini cakes among other choices, these were pretty fun little bite sized deserts.
Our whole dining experience with all the platters that we tasted and the wait times for everything we were here for about 2 hours.
My overall take of the whole experience is, this place knows it is good, and they know it. besides the poor way they manage their reservation and walk ins they do have some quality items in their menu, when people come here they will be here for several hours and experience a lot of great items. my wish for them is that they keep the great gastronomic work as their food is pretty amazing and start looking into the shortcomings at the door of the house and that would make them a 5 star place. read more
