Located by the water it is a very nice and spacious chain like restaurant. the waitress was super friendly and fun, she talked to us a lot and hospitality was clearly her forte. we really enjoyed the service here. they have some neat drinks that will have you very happy. SANGRIA- super fun as they bring you the bottles with the ingredients separately so you can build up your flavor, adding a fun fact to the drink for sure. CLASSIC JACK STACK( poutine)- huge serving 2 pol can share easily, as far as flavor, I can say I had better, but I you see yourself here for some drinks this is a good choice for sharing songs at least 3 ppl in your group. I wish though the added ore cheese to it as we eat it I noticed that the middle of the stack was only fries and the sauce and cheese were MIA. BEER CHEDAR SOUP- this is another interesting presentation of meal, comes with a separate beer shot so you can add to the soup yourself, once again they went ahead for the fun factor on the meal, however this soup tasted heavy and salty, I would not recommend this soup at all. one of my friends didn't even bother to eat it at all. overall this is not a place for a foodie and more of a drinking crew type of night. read more

There was a tropical storm going on, or else we would have left before being seated and looked for some place less noisy. Visited last night with my family around 8pm. From the beginning, our visit was not pleasant because of our waitress. She was unfriendly and acted as if we were a pain in the ass. She would not make eye contact when she checked in with us once. She asked "everything ok here?" and walked away saying "cool" before we barely answered. The poutine I had wasn't very hot, the fries were hot but the gravy was subpar. Overall, our experience with waitress Alleigh was what made me give this place 2 stars and made her tip quite low to what we would normally tip our waitresses. We told the hostess on the way out how awful she was too. Hope others don't get the same experience. read more

We arrived on a Wednesday evening around 7:00pm and had no problems getting a table for four people. The general atmosphere was that of a pub/sports bar, loud music, sports playing on the many big screen TVs all around. Located next to the Keg and the Bier Markt. It is a very large Jack Astor's compared to other locations elsewhere in Canada Our experience was very good. The menu is standardized per the Jack Astor's franchise but they had the usual seasonal extra menu. The staff were attentive, they prompted us if we wanted another pint everytime our current pint was running low For appetizers: The wings were excellent, the dry rub was perfect; not too salty, and the meat underneath was juicy and tender. Garlic cheese bread was actually a big pan fried bun with the garlic and cheese on top. Both came in a portion size big enough to share and both were delicious! For mains: I had the Bourbon Steak entreé with poutine. The steak and the poutine was excellent but I felt the shrimp was a little overcooked Would be happy to come here again for another meal! read more

I normally go for lunch and order off the lunch menu as I'm on budget and the ten dollar lunch menu is perfect. Only complaint one of servers didn't ask lunch menu or regular menu . I always have the lunch menu in my hand and pointed to lunch comb . My bill came I was like " 23 dollars for lunch " I only had a water and chicken strips and side salad . With tax and tip normal 14 something. I said I was charged for the regular not lunch menu . All the serve said is you never said . . Needless to say haven't went back . This Jack Astor's is quite new, has high ceilings, and has plenty of televisions around to watch a sporting event. The food here is, like many chain restaurants, too salty. The fajitas I had were quite expensive (27$ or so). They were advertised as coming with guacamole, yet no discount or apology when they happened to be out of it. Service here is designed to cater to beer-drinking guys in their twenties. Servers have a uniform look. What you get is something between well-intentioned and brash. While I like the Jack Astor's brand and appreciate the money they spent on this location, I would not be in a hurry to get back here. read more

Great location on the Harbour with outdoor seating. I had a shrimp caesar salad which was very tasty...loved the dressing! The downside to this restaurant is the service. We had to flag our waitress down to order after sitting for a long time and same with asking for the check when we were ready to leave. Service here is immaculate. There was a very minor mistake with my dish (the cook forgot mushrooms to a pizza. A very simple mistake and it wasn't a huge deal to me.) But before I could even mention it to the waitress she had noticed and sped off to the kitchen to fix the error. I wasn't upset in the slightest. I understand mistakes happen! I was then presented with a cereal bowl full of mushrooms and a number of apologies. More than enough to keep me happy. They then went the extra mile to present my entire bill at no charge. Even when I insisted to pay as it was a small mistake, they insisted on keeping me happy. My experience went from great to amazing. I had a nice meal here. Service was super friendly and the food was good if not expensive. I ordered the Smoking Salmon ($21) and the caramel dream ($5.50) dessert. The fish was a little small but maybe that's me being picky for my $21 fish. But it was good. The quinoa/rice had a good taste to it too, was surprised it wasn't completely bland. I didn't care for the butter on top of the fish or grilled tomatoes. The dessert was sweet but tasty. A bit overboard on the caramel but I guess that's what I ordered. As parents we have always had trouble getting out so many date nights are had after the kids go to bed. Jacks was one of the only places to order a nice steak from skip the dishes and it was always perfect. Now you can no longer order it through their menu on skip. Please bring it back!! Interesting mix of restaurant styles. Decor is upscale but funky, lots of quotes and things to look at. Montana's feeling with the paper, crayons and birthday singing. The food was good, had a gluten free bacon cheese burger and my boyfriend had the BBQ chicken pizza. I think it will be one of those go to restaurants when you want consistency and know you're going to get good service and a good meal. read more

My son's birthday, 12 of us went out to dinner at Jack Astor's in Downtown St. John's. Because they do not take reservations, my daughter and I were there 45 minutes before we hoped to be seated. We were told 50% of our party must be present before we would be given a seat. There are no benches or chairs available for people waiting. Disgusted, we asked someone to take the birthday cake we brought with us got on the phone and tried to get people in early from Portugal Cove and CBS.After about 30 minutes and just before the next 4 of our party arrived (making the 50%), a party of 7 and a party of 8 arrived. There was now nowhere to seat us and we were advised it would be at least another hour before we would be seated. After discussing amongst ourselves for another 5 minutes or so, we spotted 3 square tables that could accommodate us, at least we would be sort of together. We asked for those and were seated. Little did we know we would have 3 different servers.My wife and I sat at different tables. The orders at my table were taken first. My wife waited for a while and eventually flagged someone down to take orders from her table. Food arrived at her table first (hers was cold so she sent it back, got it free I think). Even though the orders from my table were placed first (and well ahead of my wife's table), food arrived at my table so late that a that half of my wife's table and all of the other table were finished eating before ours even arrived. We asked a server to bring our cake and several of them came and sang for us. Because I was facing the entrance, I could see a crowd of waiting customers with nowhere to sit. What is the restaurant going to do in winter when there is not enough room between the door and the desk, the crown is wearing winter coats and the door is open with waiting patrons trying to get in out of the weather? The food was good. The staff were great. They are not to blame for the restaurant's policy, so I tipped 15%. I did advise the hostess that I would be posting a review reflecting their policy, and that I understand the girl at the desk could do little about it.I would like to send a copy of this review to the restaurant, but I see another review here advising I would be wasting my time. It was particularly upsetting to see parties of 7 and 8 walk in and be seated right away seconds before we had the 50% quota. read more

I've been here twice; each time I enjoyed my food and appreciated the good service. I've had the warm salmon salad with the dressing on the side and its delicious. The Jiggs dinner poutine is mouth-watering and out of this world. Burgers look and smell amazing and desserts are great! This restaurant is very urban, funky and loud. The servers are very professional, lively and they hustle to make sure that all their tables are taken care of. There are tv's everywhere with loud music, an energetic and playful bar and lots of chatter. There is a bit of a wait to get in and the porch is small, so bring a coat to wait outside, but they give you a text message when you're table is ready (on weekends), which is very convenient for walking downtown before dinner. I don't quite know why, but every time I go here, I feel like I'm in one of those scenes.
