I want to offer some insight for people who might be struggling to find quality care for their furry loved ones. Our dogs are family and we treat them as such. We brought our dog to Katella Animal Clinic even though we regularly go to a different vet a couple cities away. They are a bit too far and we had what we thought was a simple ear infection. We had complaints of our dog having low energy and an ear infection which prompted the staff to order bloodwork. Perhaps the best thing they did during our entire experience here because they found abnormalities in her labwork which could have gotten REALLY bad if left untreated. So I do want to give credit where credit is due. They followed the book when it came to our complaints. Things quickly went downhill from there though. They charged me about $1,000 for exam, blood work, and ear medication. This is OUTRAGEOUS in hindsight but we proceeded since we were already there and assumed these prices were mostly fair. Once we got the blood work back, the doctor never even called us and only communicated through the supporting staff. She TEXTED me that my dog might have cancer and recommended we come in for imaging. She said we could come in that day and asked us to come in early since they are understaffed. We came in early and proceeded to wait over an hour. We were fine with that since the C word was dropped and we were just worried. During our wait, I asked multiple times to speak with the doctor as I STILL had not even heard her voice to explain the diagnosis. Incredibly unprofessional, callous and inhumane if you ask me but sure, you're busy. Finally, we got handed an invoice for an X-ray with 3 views. $750 for an X-ray. No exam, nothing else. Just an x-ray. I called our other vet and asked for an estimate for an X-ray and they quoted me $350. Still haven't talked to the doctor outside of text about this potential cancer diagnosis by the way. She hid in the back for over an hour as my family sat anxious in the waiting room. A simple 5 minute conversation or even simply coming out and apologizing and offering to book another time would have put us at ease. It's the using your assistant as middleman and hiding from your patients that is just shady. I want to also add that after we got hold of our records, I found out they did a urinalysis which for dogs, usually involves sticking a needle in their belly. They never got consent for this nor did they explain this to me. They sure charged me for it though! Frustrated with the lack of care and empathy and now this outrageous cost, I immediately left and booked a next day appointment at our usual vet. They did their own exam, repeat blood work, X-ray with 3 views, AN ULTRASOUND, steroids and refill on ear medications all for $1,000. Mind you, this vet is in Irvine. The doctor came in and talked with us for 30+ minutes and explained all the difference probabilities and WHY we are proceeding with imaging and even explained what the doctor at Katella failed to. They went over the original bloodwork done OUTSIDE of their office and sat with us as we struggled with our options. I understand that times are tough, people are understaffed and it's hard to find trustworthy staff. But if that is the case, you cannot be putting patients at risk with this level of disregard for families. If you're so short of staff that you can't even explain a potential cancer diagnosis to your patients, you simply should not be operating. Medicine is not just about the diagnosis. It's patient care. Not to mention the insane overcharging for your mediocre services. As a parent of 4 dogs, I implore you to NEVER step foot in this place.

Any concern is addressed and everything gets tested and done by the book . I've had plenty of vets before who just threw meds our way without properly checking first . Their prices are extremely reasonable , they're very nice about giving out prescriptions if you'd rather buy your meds somewhere else , the hospital is very clean and something that is a big deal to me at least - nice big parking lot -lots of spaces and in a very quiet and safe area . The prescription is supposed to be good for 12 months, but the vet wrote a prescription for only a 6-month supply and refused to give a 12-month prescription unless I order from their online pharmacy or directly from the clinic. My pet is healthy so it's not because the vet wants to see my pet again to ensure the medication is still appropriate. She was just annoyed that I was not ordering from them. I did normally order from them but this time I just wanted to save some money because I got a great deal elsewhere. And I believe pet owners should have the freedom to purchase medication elsewhere and not being held hostage by the vet. I was told that I need to refill the flea control medication at their pharmacy/clinic or "go find another vet". So I did - I took my business and all my pets to another vet in the area. Another thing is that they charge 3% credit card fee (and debit card I think). They don't accept check or mobile pay (like Venmo), so you either pay cash or absorb the 3% credit card fee. For $300 flea control medication, I would have to bring $300+ cash or pay $310+ if pay by card. Like I said, they have the right to do so and I also have the right to go somewhere else that values customer service and client relationship and doesn't nickel and dime you.

Long story short; I got a kitten from an adoption center with ongoing problems that unfortunately were too much for his little body to handle. Everyone here answered all my calls with attention, gave me the most information to the best of their knowledge, and wrote me a card when my kitten unfortunately didn't make it (he had intestinal intussusception in 3 different spots & was not in a well enough condition to make it through surgery) I will be taking all of my future pets here given how they handled everything. I brought my pet chicken in critical condition to the Westminster Veterinary Group, hoping that they would help. They wanted $500 just to stabilize it. It could not stand, eat, or drink. They quoted me $290 for the emergency exam. Dr. Houston came in and asked me some questions. I told her please don't let my bird die. I asked her don't you love animals? After she took the bird in and looked at it, one of her assistants came in and said it would cost $2,300 for treatment. When I was looking at the paper, I smiled because I thought it said $230, I didn't see the extra 0. I told her that was way more money than I could ever afford. Then she came back and brought me a lower price of $500 just to stabilize the bird with antibiotics, and that price included the emergency visit charge. Insane that they would think anybody would be able to pay either of those amounts for a bird. They must have taken a lesson from the Art of the Deal. Make the first offer ridiculous, so that the person would accept the second offer, thinking it won't get any better than that. Before that, though, they offered me an $800 euthanasia option. Can you imagine? They would've charged $800 to kill the bird. That's $300 more than they were charging to treat it. I tried, but couldn't get credit with their Scratchpay or CareCredit. After some back and forth, I told them just give me the bird, I'm going home, because I can't afford any of your options. The assistant had me sign an AMA (Against Medical Advice) form. Then she told me that if I still had the paperwork that I filled out, because I never gave it to them, that if I gave it to her she would go and talk to Dr. Houston and see if she was willing to lower the price. They tricked me! I gave her my paperwork with all of my information that I shouldn't have given them at all, just for her to come back and tell me the exact same $500 price. The only difference was I would have 30 days to pay it. A woman in the waiting room was kind enough to offer a $100 donation from her credit account to help pay for my bill, but I couldn't accept that. You'd think seeing her display of generosity would've softened the veterinarian's hearts a little, but nope. They were dead firm on that $500 charge. $500 is a ridiculous amount of money, in fact $100 would've been too much, for something that cost them much much less to do. Before I left, I told them to give me my bird and my paperwork that I had just handed to her, because there was no way I was going to do $500 over the course of 30 days. If it had been over the course of a year, fine, but 30 days, no way. She gave me the bird, but not the paperwork. I left because I didn't want any trouble and because my bird was dying, and I wanted to spend the last moments with it. It died in front of me within hours, in my bedroom, the same room that it was born in, and I buried it today in the backyard that it used to love playing and running around in. If they had offered to treat it without the additional unnecessary $290 emergency charge, I would've paid them to do the antibiotics and the other treatments they mentioned, it would've only been about $200. But $500? Pure greed. Do these people even have any blood running through their veins? Do any of them even own pets themselves? How can they ask for $500 to treat a bird that they could've treated for way less money? There was no reason for them to have charged that emergency fee and I hope that my pet's death remains on their conscience forever, if any of them even have one.

Dr. Ransom/Alona was previously our Frenchie's vet for years after we found him due to proximity and stayed with him due to his experienced and quality care. He was always reliably pragmatic, thorough, and frank with his examinations, clearly putting the pet's best interests first. I can tell you after a mid-January examination for our 9-year-old Frenchie that this new office, veterinary, and staff are the complete opposite of Dr. Ransom's practice. We came in to have our dog examined mid-January 2026 and did not know until we got there that there had been a change in ownership. There had been no notice, but we thought nothing of it and assumed the quality of care would be the same. BIG MISTAKE. To make a long story very short and provide irrefutable examples/facts to illustrate how bad they are, I just received my dog's medical file from this office today - on March 19, 2026 - when I made the request in JANUARY. We were concerned about a growth on our dog's gum-line and that was the reason we brought her in. Well, in this office's notes received two months later, they said that my husband and I were "in denial" at our January appointment about a mass on our dog's gum-line when the mass was the exact reason we had brought our dog in, and I was so dissatisfied following this vet's lack of concern during the appointment that I called all around the next morning, found another vet hospital who thoroughly examined our dog same-day, made a referral to a specialist, and our dog was IN SURGERY 48 hours later. I can't even express to you the absurdity of reading this office's sorry excuse for a medical record. Insane. But consistent with the caliber of the new vet there. Smh. Do not go to Alona if you care about your pet's longevity and quality of care. Maybe for simple matters or vaccines, you won't run into problems but if you need quality care for a serious matter... this has got to be competing for the worst place to go.

I feel completely confident in Dr. Ibrahim's care and never feel like she's rushing through an appointment or recommending things unnecessarily. The staff is also always friendly and welcoming.
