Absolutely fantastic little whole in the wall restaurant! Food is made to order and only takes about 15 minutes. The tastes and colors of the food is so refreshing. Couldn't recommend more.

Sign outside. Don't be misled by the sham shawarma sign !

This place has the best Birria I've ever had. It is sure to be a new weekly stop for me! So far I have had the birria twice, the steak tacos, and beans and rice. I've loved it all. The steak tacos have a massive amount of steak and good flavor. Def the best price tag for it as well that I've seen for the amount of meat you get. Beans and rice I also super loved. My boyfriend did get some chicken stew thing the first time we went and that is the only thing I've tasted there I would say lacked any flavor. Service is friendly and the chef is normally around to say hi. It is a low key place with limited seating but is bright and clean. We normally take to go and go have a picnic near by vs eating there. Do yourself and me (I want them to stay in business!) a favor and try them out.

A Delicious and Thoughtful Meal at Maltiox The food was absolutely delicious! I order the A Lo Guate breakfast, which came with scrambled eggs, a side black beans, avocado, slice of steak, tortillas. It also includes cream and cheese but I skipped those since I am lactose intolerant-and staff was super kind and accommodating about it. The meat was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. We also had tostadas, which were fresh and crisp. I had the tamarindo drink and also got to try the fruit punch-both were refreshing and packed with flavor. I took home rellenitos (mashed-plantains with cinnamon flavor filled with sweet black beans such as perfect treat. Definitely recommend!

    Dobladas were ok

I'll start with the drinks, horchata that tasted like a pencil (I know you put a pencil in your mouth as a kid too) and a coffee that they served without creamer. The food we ordered was not very tasty, it was horrible but my tastebuds didn't get excited. The best thing was the dobladas which is the reason for the 2 stars. The enchilada was fine though I asked for chicken and they gave me beef. The quesabirria tacos were basically a soft quesadilla with soggy tortilla and weird tasting consomé aka broth. The chuco was like a torta with mixed filling and it wasn't too good. I had high hopes that weren't met, sadly.

REAL Guatemalan food!! Garnachas fried mini tortillas, topped with beef, marinated cabbage, and tomato sauce. Its definitely worth the trip to Shaw neighborhood. Stop by and enjoy!

The brisket was pretty good. Not the best I ever had. However, it had great texture and was thick cut. Dipped in their bbq sauce- it was even better. The grilled wings were great. Fat juicy drums! *I gave my aunt the flats, and she enjoyed them too. The brussels and esquites were great. Im not a big parmesan guy, but on the brussels it surprised me. The cornbread had a great texture as it was moist and held up nice; it wasn't dry and crumbly. I prefer my cornbread sweet though. Id pass on it next time. Upon request, the pickles were great, but the pickled onions not so much. They were more bitter and "onion'y" if you know what I mean (it tastes like they used white onions, the ones that go on hotdogs). Im used to them being a little sweet when I get them from bbq places and even Mediterranean spots. And lastly, I didn't like the blue cheese too much it was more bitter (im used to sweeter blue cheese similar to Ken's). Another thing I'd pass on in the future. Overall, the main courses and sides were good. I recommend and would go back again to get the same things and even try the white meat chicken.

Service was good from this eclectic bunch of waitstaff, but it was pleasant and efficient. The fried pickle spears were not breaded enough, but the remoulade dipping sauce was a nice change from the typical ranch dressing. Our "standard" burgers were char-grilled, greasy and perfectly seasoned. The double fried fries were crispy and tasty. I think $38.99 is a fair price for all you can eat. I like that the portions are small so too much is not wasted. This was also my first encounter with the delivery robot. That was cool. I don't like that it has other people's food on it though. I was sitting close to the kitchen so my food didn't have to travel too far but, I wouldn't want my food traveling across the room and making stops at multiple tables before getting to me. I'm from the South and I need a bit of flavor so I did add Salt and Pepper to the items while cooking. The salad dressing had no flavor. I ended up using the yum yum sauce as a dressing. The dumplings were good. The cucumber salad was also good. My favorite hot item was the steak and shrimp. The brisket was mostly fat and the thin pork belly was like Prosciutto. My only suggesting is serving the noodles closer to when the hot items are ready. They get stiff if they just sit. Oh, and I think you need separate tongs for seafood, pork, chicken, and beef. I was worried about cross contaminating. I'd try this again.

I liked the modern industrial interior (exposed ceilings, cement floor), complete with bespoke woodpiles. Super cheerful service. BIG portions (with an extra side, each entree is a meal for two), everything hand-made, many nods to modern American cuisine such as the care they spend on sides and the well-crafted cocktails. Amazing how many things you can smoke. Now, drinks and food. Nothing liked a smoking whiskey cocktail, people sitting next to you will stare in envy (as well they should). Wife's grilled pineapple mojito was topped with such a large mint sprig, it was positively horticultural. Along with the complementary cornbread, a great start. My barbecue expert's half rack of St. Louis-style ribs was trimmed and plenty moist, with six BBQ sauces to choose from. Lots of pickle slices (cucumbers in any form are perfect with seasoned meat). I had the "signature dish:" plank-smoked salmon, wild rice & roasted Brussels sprouts, a superb adaptation of the art of barbecue to a healthy piece of fish. Interesting chat with Chef Darneille about the challenges of the restaurant scene. Appreciated his honesty, he appreciated our business. Even as he had a party of 60 to attend to (there were just enough tables to accommodate us). And, only a block from Metro, making for a short run through any rainstorm. The brisket is the true star of the show: slow-cooked over an open flame, it's fall-apart tender with just the right amount of bark and smoke. This spot isn't just about the meat (though, let's be honest, you could stop there and leave happy). They've also turned part of the space into a mini market that sells fresh local produce, prime cuts of meat, a curated wine selection, and even small-batch ice cream. It's like a one-stop shop for food lovers, whether you're dining in or taking a piece of the experience home. The atmosphere still nods to its past life--exposed beams, condiment stations, and vintage signage add to its cool, industrial vibe.
