We came here to celebrate my SIL's graduation. We both got the passionfruit juice, which wasn't too tart and very refreshing. I had trouble deciding, but ended up getting the churrasquinho misto, which was a skewer with beef, chicken, pork, and sausage. It came with white rice, veggies, and a couple of sauces. The meats were dry, so I didn't enjoy this dish very much. We shared carne de sol com mandioca, which was sun-dried beef and fried yuca on separate plates. The beef was basically sausage with onions. We also had some cute little baguettes. Others got pasta, paella, and lamb chops. For dessert, we got a chocolate cake, passionfruit mousse, and a brigadeiro de colher com sorvete e amendoim. This was like a parfait consisting of a chocolate bar served with vanilla ice cream and peanuts. Overall, the food was okay and so was the service.
I was here for a birthday dinner with a large group of 20 people. This restaurant was one of the very few that would accommodate such a large group without booking a private room. I ordered a glass of house Cabernet Sauvignon and the picanha biro. The picanha biro was delicous. The meat was cooked perfectly. The collard greens were garlicky and delicious. The rice was also delicious and I enjoyed the crunchy pieces of potato sticks sprinkled on top. My boyfriend ordered the feijoada which he said was really good. Again, collard greens were super tasty and meat was very flavorful and well cooked. The food didn't take too long to come out and everyone received their meal at the same time. Also since we were celebrating a birthday, the restaurant provided complimentary cakes for our group! One chocolate, one vanilla (both cakes were able to serve over 20 people. Plus there was extra!) Overall we had a great experience here and it was a wonderful place for a large group birthday dinner.
A very tasty restaurant in Adams Morgan! The interior is beautiful, and the service is very good. The food is pricey and not quite as good as I'd hope. The shrimp brochette was $10 for that small plate, and the chicken could have been more tender. The lettuce was a little wet as well. But the flavors were amazing! I loved the thick salad dressing and the delicious black bean soup. This is a great space for large groups and had many open tables on a Monday night.
Excellent service, great menu options and perfect for large groups. We were a group of 10. We made it more family style. We ordered multiple tapas and 8 entrees. We came in hungry and left very satisfied. We also brought our own wine. It was a $15 corkage fee. Feijoada-deli-delicious and generous portions. Cheese bread-yumm! Brazilian Paella-different, but tasty Steaks- it had a good flavor but wasn't very tender. We pretty much ordered everything on their menu. I'm just stating the standouts from our evening. It was our daughters's bday, initially they passed out the dessert menu only to take it back and bring a huge baked Alaska. Enough for everyone at our table to share! It's the little things that make come back :)
This was a nice trip back to Brazil. I had a hard time choosing what to order as it's difficult to find the menu items found here anywhere else in the US. The restaurant is a little on the classier side. Definitely a great date spot. I decided on the caldo de feijao for a hot bowl of soup because it was freezing outside. The flavor was so good and immediately reminded me of the feijoada I had back in São Paulo. I also ordered the salada verde which was decent with romaine lettuce and a creamy dressing that was okay. For my entree I had the Bisteca de contra file (ribeye steak) with mixed vegetables. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Wonderful experience here, I would definitely recommend.
It's a beautiful restaurant located in Adams Morgan. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant and although busy, the service was good. I would love to give this place a higher rating because I had high expectations for the food based on other reviews; however, to my party's of five dismay, the food was NOT GOOD. To whom it may concern, Your marquee says, "authentic Brazilian food," but what you served was nothing of the sort. The portions were generous but the food was out right bland and Brazilian food is far from bland. Definitely not worth the over $500 worth of food and beverage we spent. I even asked our server if the chef was Brazilian, and he confirmed the chef was not Brazilian. The lack of flavor in the stews we ordered was offensive. We even had to send a rack of lamb back to the kitchen because the temp was done wrong--why would you serve a well done rack of lamb when we asked for medium? And even the lamb lacked a good sear and even the taste of basic salt and pepper. Huge disappointment. The only dish that was tasty was the paella, which was extremely cilantro forward. Enjoyed a relaxing evening on the patio trying out the Brazilian food. The server told us the background behind the restaurant and was helpful in making the selections. I ordered the national cocktail, caipirinha, which seemed to be a blend of a margarita and mojito without the mint. I found it a bit bitter and sour, so it is definitely not a sweet cocktail. The coxinha gallina was crispy on the outside and had a nicely flavored chicken on the inside. The abacate maraja was a delightful blend of avocado, shrimp and a mayonnaise style dressing. I enjoyed my salamo maracuja with the sweet passion fruit glaze. They were able to accommodate my request to switch out the rice for black beans as that is my preference. The vegetable side was nicely buttered and sautéed. We would like to come again sometime.
if you want the vibe of an all inclusive 2 star resort I'd recommend here.... - it took us awhile to put our finger on the vibe but the booth we were sitting in with the same pattern upholster as my local dentist office and the large portions of extremely mid and overpriced food led us to feel we were in an all inclusive restaurant at perhaps a theme park - the waiters themselves were very kind and they accommodate large parties (will even split the check many many many ways) and do free big birthday so the service is a win. great staff - however the food.... All my friends who ordered steaks....considering it's a brazialian restaurant... reported they were extremely disappointed with the meat quality. dry and flavorless yet somehow still pulling off fat chucks of fat. I'm not going to lie the meat was honestly gray in color. - the chicken dish, Frango Cabo Frio, I ordered was a total safe bet and the sauce was great. but the vegetables were clearly cooked in a cheap oil and the chicken itself lacked any flavor and was dry despite being underneath a cream sauce - the paella was beautiful but overpriced, double the quality can be found at Boqueria Barcelona jaleo so save yourself this order - I will not be returning but if for some reason you do, get the "cheese bread" and add the spicy sauce, bc it's a glorified cheese curd (it's a ball, not a piece of bread) with a fun texture

The restaurant has a nice outdoor seating area (which we would've taken advantage of, but was kind of hot outside) but we opted for the indoor seats inside. The layout is interesting inside with a nice little bar that greets you. The service is fair and straight to the point and the menu seems to be full of authentic options. First round were the appetizers that were decent. The croquettes were probably the best and the 2 salads were fine. The mushroom with crab meat was a little bit fishy unfortunately but the greens were decently fresh. The entrees were unfortunately where things fell a little flat. The steak was cooked well but the sides were a little meh. The feijoada was too salty unfortunately and like 80% beans. The shrimp stew was pretty good but not good enough to elevate the other dishes. The desserts, while sweets were a bit dense. The coconut flan was good but the sweet caramel flan was ridiculously thick. Overall I'd say its a fine restaurant. Wouldn't be against trying it again but probably would not actively seek this place out again.
Honestly, I love Brazilian food, but for the summer restaurant week we felt overcharged and that they really under delivered. There were two options $40 menu and $55 menu, took a picture of the $40 menu but we choose the $55 options for 'upgraded/ premier' options . It actually came up to $71 with included gratuity. Had I known this I would've ordered off the regular menu because the apps and dessert were not that amazing. And unfortunately, the dessert was the best part. Even though it was a poor presentation plating wise. Seemed like the way I'd serve it to myself at home, not like a chef would. Unfortunately, they were unable to accommodate dietary restrictions to any degree. When we asked for just fruit instead of anything with dairy for dessert, they said there was nothing that could be done. All desserts had dairy. However, both desserts came out with a lot of strawberries, so it was strange that they could not be flexible on that. Second, both main courses were actually small in terms of the meat. For my grilled meat, they were two bite-size pieces of steak, four dry pieces of chicken breast and two small pieces of sausage. The rice and beans were the best part. I don't know if I would return based on the restaurant week experience . The server was nice at least. And the restaurant was large. A lot of large groups were able to walk in and be seated. They had a paper covering over the table cloth so it took some of the 'classy' ambience away. read more
Had dinner here and was pretty impressed with the menu selection. Not only is there a large variety of items to include salads, pasta, meats, rice, and more, but almost every on the menu is gluten free and many items are vegan friendly. Staff is friendly and attentive, din in area nice, and food is great. Also, you got to love the name of the restaurant (I had to listen to "The Girl From Ipanema" by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Frank Sinatra). Overall, we had a great dining experience. read more

I saw that Adams Morgan neighborhood has a few Brazilian places to choose from, which I thought was nice. However, it seems like for Brazilian seafood, this is the place to go to, since most other places don't have much in seafood offerings. I tried the moqueca and the Brazilian paella (which I've never heard of before and I believe this to be this restaurant's invention). I was half-hoping that the moqueca didn't come in the little pumpkin/squash, but that might be pushing it. It was still good, but it wasn't nearly the best I've had (that goes to a place in Florida's Deerfield Beach, currently). The Brazilian paella, however, was easily the favorite between the two dishes. I would order this again and would not hesitate to come back to try some other items in the menu. read more

Fantastic brunch deal for DC Restaurant week. Started my meal with the Caldo de Sururu. It was the perfect light soup to open the meal. The table also got an order of yucca fries to share. They were crispy and complimented well by the creamy cilantro sauce it came with. For my main entree, I had the Moqueca de Peixe a Baiana. This is a fish stew made with tomato and coconut milk. If you're not a fan of coconut milk, this is not the dish for you, because the coconut flavor definitely comes out. But to me, it was the perfect creaminess! On the menu, it indicated that the dish came with pirao (yucca purée), but I did not get that. Instead I got a side of vegetables (carrots, onions, zucchini, and broccoli). I do wish I got to try the pirao. Lastly, for dessert I had a fried banana with whipped cream. Despite us being one of the only guests in the restaurant, our waiter seemed barely available. This is a family run restaurant, so they may have been understaffed. Although the service was a little slower (our meal ended up being 3 hours lol), the food was unique and tasty...and all for just $25! read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in for happy hour and dinner and thought the food and drinks were fabulous, if a bit pricey! Happy hour runs from 4-6:30p (modified from the signage, which says 4-7p!), and includes various drinks and Brazilian tapas. We ordered caipirinhas ($7.50 happy hour price) and mexhilhão à carioca (mussels in a green sauce) ($10 happy hour price). Both were delicious: the drink was limey and refreshing. The green sauce over the mussels was a gorgeous combination of tart and buttery, and they give you bread to sop it up. We also ordered sauteed vegetables and the feijoada for dinner. I'd skip the sauteed veggies next time, but the feijoada? Heavenly. The portion isn't huge, but it comes with rice, yucca flour, and collard greens, and the stew itself is smoky and flavorful and wonderful. Perfect if you're in the mood for comfort food. The tab ran us about $90 with tax and tip for two, which isn't cheap, but we'll definitely be back at some point! read more
Amazing sidewalk experience with 5 star service. Churrasco Misto, meat plate was amazing. Loved everything about it. The meats were flavorful and juicy: beef, chicken, sausage, and pork. Grilled veggies, beans, and rice were a great compliment. Also for a salad, had the Abacate Marajá. Shrimp and avocado were the highlights. Had a small full shrimp and a mix of avocado and shrimp. Very good. The chocolate cake...was...amazing. I don't even know were to begin. It had a crust which made me think it was a pie. Next chocolate layer was a mousse. Chocolate flakes on top with a chocolate drizzle. Loved the strawberry garnish. Superior service. Tempted to give them five stars but want to repeat. Definitely try them out. read more

Grossly overpriced food in a somewhat casual dining setting. The taste was really authentic though but I won't come back here again due to the exorbitant prices. Mains go for $29 and up (excluding taxes) and gratuity is added directly on top of the bill. read more

My rating = 85 (food 63/75, ambiance 8/10, service 14/15). Lisa's rating = 85. Cornerstone Brazilian food on a quiet spot a block from Adams Morgan. We had (among other things): 1. Caiprinhas* (Brazilian drink with Cachaca, sugar, and limes) 2. Feijoada (Stew with black beans, dry beef, pork, sausage, and smoked meat) with rice, collard greens, and farofa* 3. Carne de sol (marinated and dried flank steak) with yucca and black eyed peas 4. Everyone from the hostess to server was so kind! The dishes are a bit pricy but you get a lot for your money unlike other high-end places that give you small servings. I got the carne de sol which was supposed to come with black eyed peas salad and drawn garlic butter (whatever that is). I asked the waiter if I could substitute that for black beans and she suggested I could get a serving of black beans and collard greens. Which was very kind. Everything was full of flavor and was made fresh. The flank steak was cooked perfectly, the collard greens were seasoned well, and I can't forgot about the yucca! Came here with my family on Friday evening for dinner. Initially when we came and was seated, there was a spider crawling on the table. With no issues we scooped it off. It's summer time, so we understood. The food we ordered was good. However when it got to dessert time we ordered the chocolate mousse cake. The cake came and it was a baby roach on the plate. I was disgusted. We talk to a lady in charge first who made it seem like it wasn't a roach. That is why I took a picture for sure. We then talked to the manager and he was very unapologetic and tried to justify the roach being on the plate. He said maybe the roach came out from somewhere in the restaurant. He stated he's been in business for 52 years and has seen roaches all the time. He wasn't apologetic and made it seem like it wasn't a big deal that a roach was on my plate. I am pregnant and disgusted. The manager could have handled the situation better and showed more concern. Things happen but it's how you handle and respond to the situation. The manager handled the situation inappropriately. When we got the bill from our server (not the manager, he never said anything about taking anything off the bill) the manager ended up taking off a percentage. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back AT ALL. I have added a picture of the proof. read more

The dishes here were unlike any other as I don't often gravitate towards Brazilian cuisine. The pasta and steak were incredible and the server was so helpful in helping our party choose from the menu! The ambiance of this place was cozy :) read more
From the outside I thought it would be tiny, but it was large and roomy inside. The food was really fresh, but a tad bland. The croquettes were super tasty and all the sauces were flavorful! Black beans and rice was good with the touch of cheese, but otherwise, not particularly well seasoned . My other complaint, I asked for a chimichurri type sauce for my steak but what was served was more like a vinegar based pico de gallo. read more
