The doctors, nurses, CNA's and other staff helped make my birth experience go as smoothly as possible. They were all professional, compassionate, and gave me 5-star worthy care. My favorite part was our celebratory meal we got to enjoy on the second night of our stay. I was fortunate enough to be on my way home after only 2 nights. The reason for deducting 1 star is because my discharge experience could've gone better. We went from 2 blissful days of feeling taken care of and pampered, to feeling like we were being rushed to move out. An older Asian lady (not sure what her role is at Kapiolani but I know she definitely wasn't a nurse) came into our room and started basically telling us it's time to get ready to go. She asked my husband where our car seat was. We explained to her, per the instructions from our RN that was last taking care of us, we were waiting for the pharmacy to call to let us know my prescription was ready, then my husband will grab the car seat on the way to the pharmacy. Then we would have someone from their staff ensure that we buckled baby in correctly, and then proceed with discharge. This lady started yapping and bossing my husband around, telling him to bring the car around up front and we'll all walk out together. She then proceeded to call the pharmacy to basically tell them to hurry up and fill my prescription. Her presence caused me unnecessary stress. We felt like we were being hurried to clear out the room. On top of that, I was not offered a wheelchair to our car. I had to walk, 2 days postpartum, freshly stitched up and sore, to our car parked in front at guest drop off. Despite this experience I'm not letting it overshadow my overall experience at Kapiolani. The nurses were so sweet and supportive and made me feel like a rock star first time mom after I gave birth to my daughter in just 11 hours. I left feedback for kapiolani and I do hope they take steps to improve their discharge process for future patients.

The Center had its origin thanks to its namesake, Queen Kapiolani, who started a maternity home in 1890. Kapiolani had no children of her own, but left a legacy of devotion to education and health care for women and children. The Center is comprised of a hospital with emergency room capabilities. A clinic with full time physician oversight also operates at the center. The staff at Kapiolani Medical Center is aloha friendly. My daughter had her baby at Kapiolani, where she received good prenatal and delivery care. The Center is currently fundraising to raise money to support growth. I attended parts of the fundraiser, which was a heart warming experience. The facilities are a mishmash of architectural styles mostly from the 1980's. There is modest colorful art throughout the complex. The dining room on the second floor hosts a decent cafeteria and a Starbucks. The hospital is immaculate inside. The hospital is also a teaching hospital in partnership with the medical school at the University of Hawaii. Today, I also had lunch in the Kobayashi & Kosasa Dining Room. A big bowl of soup was only $4! I had broccoli cheese soup, which was healthier than your average soup, made with noticeably less salt. I loved my soup. The cafeteria offers an interesting menu of Hawaiian traditional meals, craft pizzas, salads and more. They offer valet parking, because finding your own parking is near impossible. There is a parking garage somewhere on site, but I'm not sure where.

You park in Miller Parking and it's free for the first hour. There's no need for validation. The parking is a little tricky. The lobby is on level B2. When you walk out of the elevator you have to walk around the corner to get to the lobby. He was in the Queen Emma Tower. This place is like a maze. You have to make a few turns to get to the Queen Emma elevators. We got lost a few times. The hospital was clean, bright and really nice. The staff were also really friendly. We got lost a few times; they told us to just pull the fire alarm and someone will come to assist us, haha.

After seeing three different PCPs at this clinic, I can no longer view my experience as an isolated…read moreincident. The physician care has been consistently disappointing. The doctors I saw came across as dismissive, rushed, and condescending. Instead of feeling heard, I often felt like my concerns were being minimized or brushed aside. Questions were not fully answered, and discussions about my health frequently lacked the detail and explanation that patients deserve. I sought care because I had legitimate health concerns and abnormal findings that warranted follow-up and discussion. Rather than receiving thoughtful guidance, I often left appointments feeling more confused than when I arrived. In some cases, information documented in visit notes did not reflect the depth of discussion that actually took place during the appointment. What makes this especially frustrating is that the nurse practitioners and APRNs have been excellent. They took time to listen, explain why testing or follow-up was needed, and treated me with respect. My experience with the emergency department was also positive, professional, and compassionate. This review is not directed at the nursing staff, APRNs, or emergency department. They have consistently provided better communication and patient-centered care than any of the physicians I encountered. After three different PCPs and the same experience each time, I have lost confidence in the physician care provided by this clinic. Patients should not have to feel talked down to in order to receive answers about their own health.

I came here due to a non-healing wound on my tongue. I had a minor, unexpected surgery on April 2nd…read moreto remove 4 mm of my tongue for a biopsy. My doctor was kind and empathetic throughout the whole process. I felt no pain during the fast, less than 51-minute visit, even after receiving two stitches. The numbing spray helped ease the pain of the shot. It wasn't until after the procedure that I felt immense pain. I did not receive a pamphlet like I usually do after hospital visits, nor did I receive instructions on how to care for myself. An hour later, the pain hit me like a tidal wave. It was excruciating. I'm glad Kaiser has an app where we can speak to our PCP right away. If we can't reach them, we can call urgent care and get a callback with advice. The doctor called the pharmacy to ensure I had pain medicine and mouthwash. My surgeon called the next morning to check on me, which I appreciated. However, my stitches came undone the next day. I went to the ER in Wahiawa. It took an hour to be admitted, and once seen, they quickly decided not to do anything since it was clotted. I explained I have a hard time healing, but they said tongues heal quickly and didn't want to mess with that. They told me to follow up with my surgeon if needed. Two days passed, and I seemed fine. I barely talked or ate to allow healing. Monday passed with light talking. Tuesday I talked more, and it hurt less. Then Wednesday at 7 a.m., I woke up choking on blood. My tongue was dripping like a faucet. Because of my experience in Wahiawa, I stayed home and tried to manage it. It took 5 hours for the bleeding to stop. I slept again and woke up choking on blood around 4 p.m. That's when I knew home care wasn't enough. I didn't want to return to Wahiawa, so I went to the location where my surgery was done. I'm happy to say the care there made me feel at ease. They didn't make me feel like a burden. I was spitting blood from the parking lot to the ER and into my room. After receiving five stitches, I was sent home. A few hours later, I coughed and started bleeding again, like a sprinkler so I was brought back to the ER. The night team was kind and patient. The doctor prepared to stitch again but saw clotting and decided not to. Another team considered cauterizing, which I would have preferred, but also chose not to due to clotting. I slept through most of the night with nurses checking in. One nurse told me my oxygen levels dropped while sleeping due to an obstruction. The most stressful part was using my call light multiple times with no response. Around 1 p.m., my doctor asked if I had eaten. I said no because no one had come by. The nurse later offered crackers but never brought them and told me to drink water. It was discouraging to see staff walk by or enter for supplies while my call light was on. When I spoke up, I was told to wait or that my nurse would come. I eventually insisted I needed the restroom but wasn't allowed, likely due to fall risk, until I was moved to my room. I asked a nurse about the call light, and she kindly said, thank you for your patience, the ER is a zoo right now. I understand healthcare is not easy. I used to be a CNA and come from a family in healthcare, so I try to be understanding. My issue is that I bite my tongue at night, wake up choking, and don't heal easily. We suspect sleep apnea, but it is not confirmed. I asked to stay overnight due to the trauma, and I am grateful I was moved for observation. Special thanks to my nurse Liezel. She was amazing, attentive, proactive, and kind. She made sure I was comfortable, brought me a fan, gave me extra pillows, checked on me often, and made sure I finally ate after over 24 hours without food. She even ordered dinner. I am on a clear liquid diet, and it is not bad. I appreciate the room service options. At times, it felt like a mini hotel with iced water, sanitizer, tissues, and validated parking for visitors. Also, my nurse speaks Visaya like me, which was such a comforting surprise. Overall, this experience has been a roller coaster, but the great care I received outweighs the negative moments. Praying for a better night with no more bleeding. Thank you, Kaiser team.

Many stayed because they like the Hawaii lifestyle but they know nothing about Aloha. I will never go back there again unless I am unconscious. I don't like hospitals and get anxious when I have to go, and they were so rude to me they turned it into a full blown panic attack. I tried to leave and they physically restrained me after I said these words "You do not have permission to touch my body." They violated my space in a big way, and that is illegal. You don't have a right to hold a patient down who does not want to be touched. I was already out the door at that point. You're lucky you didn't get sued. Then when I was sitting on a bench waiting for my husband, and meditating to calm myself down, they threatened to call security and HPD to remove me. I'm thinking go ahead, maybe they will give me a ride. Then they did send a humongous security guard who told me I was trespassing on private property and had to leave right that moment. WTF? I'm a little old lady who didn't want to be manhandled either. He was my son's age and was polite and just doing the job they told him to do. I don't blame him. It was those nurses that caused the whole incident from beginning to end. None of them could seem to realize that all I was ever trying to do was leave peacefully. I was in the ER for a reason. Did they expect me to walk home? This was all kinds of wrong. Castle has gone way downhill. P.S. There were witnesses.

My father was placed here following a major stroke. While most of the staff is friendly, one of the…read moremain nurses on the 4th floor who oversaw my father most of the time was rude, and had an attitude. It felt like whenever we requested anything from help to get my father into a wheel chair to take him to the courtyard, to something simple like an extra pillow, it was as if we were asking her to do the impossible. My father fell out of bed a few times and they stationed a nurse outside his room to monitor him. After 2 days, they told my mother she needed to sleep there overnight every night as they could no longer afford to keep the nurse outside his room. Excuse me, what? -- Parking is in the structure 1st and 3rd floors. Grab a ticket on your way in and self validate with a stamp at the nurse's station located in front of the elevators on the floor you're visiting.

I was MISdiagnosed there 2 YEARS when I had lymphoma UNDER shrapnel from an Iraq War wound. I was told, "You are getting OLD, and it's an old war wound..." DISSED for 2 YEARS??%$#@! finally, I went outside w/Medicare, got a proper diagnosis, (CANCER in that bone under the 'old war wound'), and referred for treatment-- finally the V.A. got involved because I threatened to go to the press if they didn't take over. The docs at St. Francis radiation center were GREAT. But nothing worked as it's a rare cancer and it didn't respond to radiation, and kept coming back. Finally, with MY research (I'm a retired surgeon) I found a treatment that may work for me and they referred me on after my oncologist AGREED. MAHALO PRES. TRUMP for 'Care in The Community', as we can now go to outside docs if we live far away--and they took me seriously, I got treatment the V.A. doesn't have anyway--and they listened to me, treating me with respect as a fellow doc. PALI MOMI WAS THE LATEST DOC TO SEE FOR BONE SURGERY--a big surgery, a VERY long 18 month recovery=MAJOR. I saw Dr. Aratani, who is highly specialized in ortho and oncology--one of only 2 on island. The only other is my friend @ Tripler but he was deployed so unavailable and he got me in to see Dr. Aratani. She was enthusiastic about my research, said YES--and referred me on to Queens for one treatment before she operates...but PALI MOMI WAS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. I was pretty lost there as I never go to Aiea, living in Kahalu'u, and it's grown so much all my old landmarks are GONE--but after finally finding it, employees directed me every step of the way as to where to go, what building/floor/etc. OMG! That NEVER happens @ the V.A. I was totally--no lie--slack jawed by the time I got to her office! EVERYONE was so FRIENDLY--and not put on--I mean genuinely friendly, helpful...as my leg HURTS and walking HURTS...so so many folks there offered to help..I am BLOWN AWAY. It is BY FAR, the BEST medical facility I have EVER been in--and after getting wounded, I've had 15 surgeries, multiple scars/shrapnel/debility...etc. I just am very impressed=PERIOD. Much aloha to all you guys!!! Your assist and help was SO appreciated! I've been really down about all this, the time I lost getting treated and where it's at now--needing major surgery, possibly crippled for life...yadayada. But you guys there really cheered me up. He texted me needing a lift from Pali Momi Medical Center (PMMC) to his home just off Kinau Street. PMMC opened its doors in July 1989 and has been servicing Central and West Oahu. It was originally opened as Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi until rebranded as PMMC in 2010. They are conveniently located in Aiea just down the road from Pearlridge Shopping Center. It was my first time here and was impressed with the upkeep of the grounds. Because my friend just had a procedure to the day prior, a hospital staff wheeled him via wheelchair to the pickup/drop off area. I was amazed by the hospital's attention to patient's condition, consideration and service extended. Although the pickup was a fairly quick process, the setback I encountered was leaving. There were 2 parked cars in front of me and it didn't seem the cars would be leaving soon. Furthermore, the right hand lane was too narrow where I couldn't pass them. My only option was to back up and exit via the far left lane. Thank goodness there was no car behind me otherwise I would have been in a standstill. Overall, impressed with my first visit to PMMC, with the exception of their pickup and drop off area. 2026 #60

You could tell that doctor Namiki and all the nurses cared so deeply. They admitted me quickly, and were very kind to both my mother and I. Because this was very out of the blue, my mother asked the front desk/office if it was okay to stay the night with me, and they granted her permission, kindly! They are very helpful with any assistance needed, and I would recommend this hospital to any outsiders in need of help during an emergency.

Seeing firsthand how well they cared for their patient while I was there during the admission completely changed my perspective. The staff was attentive and professional, and it truly restored my trust and confidence in their level of care. This time I was there as a visitor instead of a patient, and I also discovered a small Starbucks corner in the waiting area past the vending machines (which unfortunately weren't working). It was such a nice surprise. They had great options, I grabbed a turkey pesto sandwich, a Smartwater, and a nutter butter and it definitely helped hold me over during the ER wait. Little comforts like that really make a difference when you're spending hours there.

But if a patient is more than zombie-like and they have to work a little harder then they turn against you. Their answer is to get rid of the patient, send him to ER, and make the patient someone else's problem. I once wrote a glowing review of Leahi Hospital Nursing Home, just last year, when my dad was admitted. Yes, they have a number of very good staff members such as Star the Activities Manager, CNA Armeda, CNA Essen, Nurse Jennifer, CNA Suzie, Social Worker Carla and Linda in Admissions. These individuals are great at what they do and are caring professionals. These people are what made my dad's year-stay. LHNH is considered and registered as Dementia/ Alzheimer facility yet except for some few individuals they seems to know NOTHING about even the basics of Dementia. That is, just google search the different stages of Dementia and symptoms are clearly listed yet Leahi seem to be ignorant. You would think the head nurses would know and be able to manage staff of what patients with Dementia goes through yet it was disappointing to say the least. They way the head nurses dealt with my dad was to try to send him to ER to get rid of him when they didn't like what they saw. My dad, the last months before his death, was given the wrong meds and I made it clear that it is making his dementia worst and yet I was ignored. My siblings and I were super involved, we visited every day for 4-15 hrs. 5-6 hrs physically by my two siblings and up to 10 hrs via FACETIME by me since I live on the mainland. I research Dementia and spoke with DR. Lu (who is excellent) about medicine that I have research but the head nurse and the primary doctor (for multiple nursing homes who barely spends 5 seconds per patient) would not listen to me. They cleary ignored what Dr. Lu and I were agreeing on for my dad. The Pimary doctor's order trumps everyone I was told. My dad last week at Leahi was pure hell for him and us......the meds they put him on made him psychotic as he sadly begged to be helped. Finally, he was sent to ER because we knew LHNH was not equipped to help and they are the ones who made him this way. My dad's was a kind man and through his dementia he was more and more like a 5 year old child. He would have occasional temper tantrums, NEVER VIOLENT, as all Dementia patients do but once on FACTEIME or a 15 minute drive over to see him he would calm down. It should be noted the tantrums came from the fact that no one spoke Korean at Leahi and he could not get what he wanted understood by Leahi. I should note they have one or two people employed who spoke Korean but it was rare to see them assigned on his floor. My dad spoke fluent English but when dementia hit, we were told by a doctor at Queens Hospital (which is an excellent hospital) usually patients revert to their first language which was Korean for dad. Anyway, I can go on and on of our many disappointments with Leahi Hospital Nursing Home but what is the use at this point. But it should also be noted that once he was sent to ER at Queens Hospital they took him off all the crap meds Leahi put him on and he was fine doing well until COVID, which was traced back to Leahi, had him at Queens Hospital for over 10 days. In the end, my dad went through so much that he passed away at Queens Hospital but overall it was for the best because Queens took care of him and gave him peace! I write this not to just make others aware but to make sure Leahi understands their shortcomings and maybe make changes via training, more qualified head nurses, and better policies.

Leahi is a nursing home and long term care facility with a long history. It was built after the…read moreChinatown "Home for the Incurables" burned down and also used during World War II. Today, it's primarily a nursing home, home to Hale Mohalu (Hansen's disease unit), an Adult Day Care and has TB beds. I admit that the facility looks really scary if you're looking at if from KCC. The facility is old. Really old. Outside, there's remnants of the old schoolhouse building and the ramp that atttached to the KCC nursing student classes/hospital cafeteria is not in service. But for facility in use since the 40's, it's got a lot of heart. The patient wards are clean and visiting hours are 24/7. I love their thrift shop, I know the Royal Hawaiian Band stops by to play for residents, the Day Care is convenient for those with older parents that live nearby. T *There is no ER here because it's a nursing home! Aiya, tourists that keep calling here because they see the word "hospital" *They don't give TB shots here anymore! Instead, call Diamond Head clinic, right across the street. Bottom line: It's a good little nursing home, convenient for those with eldery loved ones who live near to the hospital location. he staff are nice people and always direct lost KCC students to their classes (it's the building with the circular ramp in front of it!)
