I came in on a Thursday afternoon. As soon as you walk in, I was greeted with a friendly face. She was so welcoming. She was also very patient with me while I ask about the flavors. The popcorn is already packaged into different sizes so don't be afraid to get the small size if you just want to taste before you indulge in a big bag. I got the Elgin mix which is white cheddar with a hint of garlic and caramel. It's a bit salty and it's probably because of the white cheddar powder. The caramel really balances it out if you mix the two together. I love garlic so I was really excited to try it on popcorn but you don't really realize its there. I also got the cherry vanilla. If you taste the popcorn individually--cherry flavor and vanilla flavor--they are amazing. Mixing the two together brings out a delicious treat! It's sweet but not too sweet where it's unbearable. The aftertaste is amazing and it stays with you for a bit. Must try!! I definitely will come back and check out the other flavors. I learned about this location through their Facebook advertising and decided to give it a try (though I see many of my friends on Yelp have already visited) on Small Business Saturday. The owner is incredibly friendly and was able to answer many of my questions. I settled on three flavors in small bags for this trip as it was my first and I wanted to try lots of flavors. We got the Chicago Mix, Elgin Mix, and Cheddar Bacon. All 3 of them are delicious- this place definitely has the best caramel popcorn that I've ever tried. Of the 3 we tried, I think the Chicago Mix was my favorite. I look forward to trying some of their other flavors (they even had a Thanksgiving one), and hope to get some Christmas gifts here as well. I want to thank Mama Lee's for going above and beyond! We've been going to both locations since they've opened and we love it! All the employees are welcoming and friendly, the lemonade at the west Dundee location is to die for! But what really makes them stand out is their commitment to their customers. Tonight we had an issue with something we purchased and I wrote them an email explaining what happened and asked if the next day we were able to come in and exchange the bag. I assumed I would hear back the next day but within 10 minutes I received an email apologizing and asking for my address to bring a brand new bag! AMAZING! They didn't have to but they did! We had a new bag of popcorn within 30 minutes! We've never had this type of customer service anywhere we've gone before! And he also gave us a small bag of popcorn of a flavor we've never had, which is now a new favorite! So walking around downtown Elgin which is apparently exceedingly hip now (I know it's hip because there is a vinyl record store - Rediscover Vinyl) and I smell fresh popcorn. Up until that, I wasn't particularly hungry, but popcorn is so small it fits in around all other food I'd already eaten. I stopped in expecting to get a caramel - cheese combo (Chicago mix), but the person behind the counter recommended the Elgin Mix - garlic cheese, mixed with caramel corn. I was skeptical but went with the recommendation. The garlic cheese popcorn was excellent. The cheese is not quite as oily/messy as say Garrett's cheese corn. The cheese here is a bit more powdery, with a hint of garlic flavor. The caramel corn is very good, with a nice crunch and golden brown color. The two together are magical. They also have flavors of the week? or month? not sure how often they rotate. I need to try Bacon Cheddar next. Highly Recommended. Just because you are in the 'burbs doesn't mean you get cut rate popcorn. Prices are on par with Nuts on Clark, and Garrett's. read more

A wonderful small business in downtown Elgin with great staff. Now let's be real, this isn't quite Garrett's. Their coatings are not as heavy as Garrett and therefore the flavor is less rich. I was soooo upset when I found out I couldn't get my favorite mix anymore because my old popcorn lady retired, BUT, she emailed me with great news, and said she'd happily let the people know at Mama Lee's know about my favorite mix (The Voodoo Mix), and to just give them a call. Of course, I was a little nervous calling a new place who probably never even heard of such a thing, but when I said who I was and who referred me, they greeted me back as if I was an old friend. The customer service is out of this world, they had 2 large bags (and their large, is REALLY LARGE) ready for me 3 days later and that was because I could not make it in sooner. I had went and picked it up at the Springhill Mall location and met the owner and his brother...once again, nicest people ever!! I cannot day enough about this place. Wasn't sure what was so special about popcorn, until I came to this place! I came by with four kids and my husband...big mistake as I also walked out with four bags of popcorn when I was planning on one. Haha! We loved the Elgin Mix and Kettle Corn. It was so light, fresh and flavorful! The caramel popcorn wasn't hard because it's coated in caramel, but a rather nice balance of caramel gave me great flavor without having to pick it off my molars. We were able to taste the Dill flavor. Unfortunately, we went late in the day so the other flavored popcorn of the day ran out, but we still walked out with enough popcorn that lasted two days. I was in town visiting for Illinois when one of my best friends since middle school told me about Mama Lee's popcorn. She took me to one of their locations at Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee Illinois where one of the family members connected to the business was working. I confess that I got quite a bit of popcorn (caramel flavor, the Chicago Cubs theme, chili lime, bacon cheddar etc.). There was a mom and her children also waiting for the popcorn. When I was waiting for the popcorn, the mom explained that she has enjoyed the popcorn before (I'm guessing a frequent customer of Mama Lee's Popcorn). The other pro; the family member serving my popcorn was super cheerful, gave me ample helpings of the popcorn, and facilitated the free offer of lemonade that comes with the popcorn orders. I still have some leftover popcorn from that day which still tastes great even with it being on the fifth day. read more
